MOUSEOVER DICTIONARY: How To Install And Use Yomichan In 2 Minutes

why spend years studying japanese when you install one magical plugin that allows you to instantly look up the readings and meanings of any japanese word in one click chinging to install yomichan you will first need several prerequisites by the way if you have anki i will also show you how to link yomichon to anki at the end of this video step one download yomichon by clicking on either of these links in the description the first link is for chrome the second link is for firefox these are the only two supported browsers at the moment next you'll need to download dictionaries for yomichon to read download both of these files for map versus japan linked in the description step two once yomimi channel is installed you see this little box on top right of your browser click the little settings icon in the settings you're looking for the dictionaries tab click on configure install and enable dictionaries and here we can import the dictionaries that we've just downloaded we've downloaded about 10 different dictionaries but we don't want all of them here are the ones that we want to get number one is the shinmei kaikoku gten this is a japanese the japanese dictionary so that you can get the japanese definitions for the japanese words next is the yoga nihongo accent which is a pitch accent dictionary alternatively you can also use the kanjim pitch accents dictionary however you have to find this one yourself number three the jm dick english dictionary this is a japanese to english dictionary that is also used by g-show.org fourth is the jmne dict for japanese names fifth is kirei cake for slangs and the sixth and final one is the anime and j drama frequency list the function is in the name note that the order matters the dictionary that you want to show up first should be on the top for me i have the shin mekai dictionary on the top because i want japanese definitions if you want the english definitions to show up first make sure jmdx is on the top don't worry you can change the order of the dictionaries at any time by clicking on these three dots on the right side everything else other than one and three please make sure you have in the same order that i have right here you can now scan words by hovering over a word and holding down shift step three being able to read new words is great but if you want to remember them you'll need to integrate it with anki once we link them we create new cards with a single click first we need the add-on anki connect so go to the link in the description and look for this code then open up anki on the top go to tools go to add-ons then press the top button to install new add-ons paste the code in here and press ok and you should be done now restart anki go back into yomichon settings and click on anki on the left side enable the anki integration and ensure that your anki is on otherwise you will have this notification make sure all your settings look like this then go to configure anki card format make sure it's set to the right format and the right deck now when you scan a word there will be a big plus button to add the card to anki you can now check if everything worked properly by searching for the word in anki and then not showing this word to your friends unless they ask why you need to learn the word yuri and it's totally not because i messed up this word in my video documenting my first year of learning japanese that you should totally check out now
