[Music] you know two of my very favorite items in my home is this beautiful vase and this sparkly candle lighter I love these because they're made out of this mirrored mosaic look and both of these pieces so I've did really nice and they're elegant I had this vase in my closet which I love but I took it out and I put it in my guest bathroom because I had guests coming and I wanted to fix it up well I missed this in my closet and I wanted to look for another piece just like this I went to Pier one which is where I think I've found this it was really really expensive but I couldn't find it so I've been looking around and I found another piece that's similar the same effect from Hobby Lobby but they didn't have any larger vases so I thought maybe I could make this so I came up with my own version I've been experimenting a lot and I came up with one that looks very very close look at this I made this one it came out beautiful too sparkly elegant it's got that mirrored crack finish and I used all dollar tree pieces to me so I'm going to show you how I created this plus a few others that came out really great too so after looking at this piece it looks like there is a layer of glass surrounding outside of this piece and is broken in place and then it looks like it's crowded in between the cracks so my first idea was to take a mirror crack it keep the pieces in place and wrap it around the glass to do this I'm starting with a mirror I got from Dollar Tree in a set of women's trouser socks and black that I also got from Dollar Tree first I'm gonna take the mirror out of the frame turn it upside down and I am going to paint glue on the back of the mirror I'm using my posh and I'm paint in every area of the mirror all the way to the edge I want to completely cover it with glue then I'm going to take my stockings and cut them open and so that they're flat and I am going to cover the back of the mirror with the stocking material I'm putting a flexible backing on the back of the mirror so that it will stay together when I break it but I'm using a stocking material because I thought I might be able to stretch it after it is broken so I just cut enough pieces to completely cover the mirror and I'm going to take a couple of sheets of paper put it on top and I'm going to press down and roll my hands against it so that the material really sticks to the mirror now after a few hours when the glue was completely dry I took the mirror and put it inside a large ziplock bag and took it outside to break it up with a hammer and I'm just sort of lightly tapping on it you can't see what it looks like because it's so bright out of here but I'll show you when I bring it inside but you just want to tap on it and not smash it but tap on it so you can break up as many pieces as you can now you want to put on gloves when you handle this but this is what I have I have a piece that is now flexible enough for me to bend around my glass piece now first I'm going to take large painters brush and just brush off the extra sanded glass pieces that are on top so I can start working now this piece will almost wrap around my large face but not completely so what I'm going to do is cut pieces and leave spaces so that I can completely get it around this there's cylinder I can cut along the lines of the cracks or even cut through the mirror to get just the right sections to glue to my piece to glue the pieces on I'm using clear gorilla glue to not use the super glue to make sure it's clear acrylic glue and I'm also using some hot glue so clear glue around the center and hot glue around the edges just to hold it in place while the clear glue dries so I'm just picking up a piece at a time and gluing it in order on the glass so I was able to completely cover it as with the 8 by 10 mirror wood spacings in between and it gives a nice little design I'm gonna do a couple more pieces before I grout these two grout these pieces I'm using a pre-mixed grout that I picked up from Hobby Lobby I'm starting with white and I'm sprinkled in a little red a little yellow and a little black to get this terracotta color to match to the vase that I like I use this colorant sprinkle into the white and I also got this coloring from Hobby Lobby to start grouting the pieces I'm gonna wipe it with a damp sponge and then I am going to take a a wooden spoon and just sort of work the grout into the cracks in sections after you do a small section you want to take a damp cloth I'm using a damp paper towel and wipe the outside surface and the instructions might say to do the whole thing let it sit for a few minutes but you really want to start wiping the grout off the mirror as soon as possible so I'm just doing this in sections because it's going to be really hard to get it off after it starts to dry you also want to put most of your grout around the top and bottom edge so that you'll have a smooth transition from the glass to the mirrors and just sort of smooth that around with your fingers after you grout the piece and wipe the surface as well as you can you want to let the piece sit for about four hours so that the grout gets completely hard now it's time for me to clean the surface really well but this is what it's looking like it's looking pretty close but the pieces are of course not as small as the one on the piece that I like to test how different looks I also use black route on one piece and white grout on a piece after the crowd dries to clean the surface of the mirror really well what you can use is a oil called goo gone this will help to not only get the grout off the mirror but there are fingerprints from the Lu on the surface that has grouts duck to it and you won't be able to get that off without this so I'm just rubbing this on with a q-tip and I'm using I have this little spatula but you could use a spoon and just rotate in circular motions and kind of scrape the residue off after you let it sit for a little while it'll loosen up anything that's sticky and it will help take off the brow and the heart and glue so I'm just gonna go around a piece and do this I'm going to wipe it with a paper towel and then I'm gonna use the Windex to clean it and it'll come out nice and sparkly so I attached two candlestick holders together from Dollar Tree with epoxy and attach the piece on top of that and this is what the white grout looks like the red and the black now if you don't feel like dealing with glass and grout here's another method that you could try for this I'm gonna bind two pieces together to make another tall vase with epoxy and I'll be using my black multi surface metallic acrylic paint I'm painting two coats of the black on the top and the bottom of the vase I want to create an effect that looks a lot like fun lighter so I went around looking for pieces that look like lasso I wanted to use glass this is a piece of glass and what I found was sequins I like the look of the small sequins but I want the shapes the little irregular shape so I decided to use the flat sequins and I picked these up from Hobby Lobby I'm gonna put about four pieces together I'm gonna cut the little circle off first of all then I'm gonna cut it several times into pieces so that I get these little irregular rectangular shapes so what I'm doing now is taking my painted vase and I'm gluing the pieces on as if I'm creating the mosaic so what I'm gonna do is put a little gorilla glue the clear gorilla glue on sections and I'm gonna spread that out with these little wooden sticks that you can pick up from any craft store it so I'm gonna spread that out evenly and I'm going to drop a few pieces down and use clean sticks to position the pieces to into place I'm gonna push the piece on this side down into position as close as possible to the next piece and wood another clean stick I will sort of press it down into the glue and you want to try very hard not to get glue on top of the surface so use this clean sticks to touch the top of the surface you can use one stick to push from the side into position and make sure your other stick is clean when you touch it on top of the surface of the pieces and this will take some time but I think of this as a nice meditative project but I was able to get that very beautiful mirrored mosaic look that I liked in my lighter now if you can't find the sequence that you can cut Dollar Tree has a and a birthday signer has a silver tinsel that you can also use to create these little tile pieces all you have to do is cut those up the same way and position them I did one side of this vase with the tencel's from Dollar Tree just so you can see the difference as you can see the shapes are very similar to my piece my lighter but it's smooth and the pieces are thinner so they don't have as much dimension as this side with the sequence either way I'm really happy with the way it turned out but I am still trying to get closer to the look of this face so I thought I'd try again using that same method but instead of painting my vase black I'm gonna paint it a light palette of color close to this face also this face is very transparent so when you put a candle in it it lights in you can see all the beautiful patterns and pieces so I'm gonna use my metallic paint again but this time I'm going to use bronze I think that's sort of a good combination of all the colors in the vase using the nice even strokes and I'm just gonna brush on one coat of the bronze because I want the glass to still be very transparent I waited for the paint to dry completely on this face and now I'm gluing on the sequence pieces the same way as I did with my black painted vase but this time I'm leaving a little more space in between each piece because I want the candle light to show through and this is what it looks like next to the piece that I love and I think it's very close I really like this a lot and lit up it glows just as beautiful now next time I may try cutting the pieces a little more square more irregular these have sharp edges and I may also try mixing the color that's close to the grout in this piece it's a lighter color and more terracotta and I'll see how that turns out but it is beautiful I love this it looks even better in person now on my Instagram you guys had a few suggestions while I was making this you've mentioned using so CDs I tried using those it was really hard to cut that's why I went with this sequence but Ida from design on the dollar said that she was trying this look would German glass glitter I wasn't able to find a German glass glitter in the craft stores I think you had to order it online but I did find a video that showed how to make something that looks like German glass glitter and I would leave a link to that but she used Christmas pumps and I only had one Christmas bulb so I'm gonna use this and I put it in a plastic bag and use a hammer to break it up into small pieces the German glass glitter has larger irregular shape pieces and I wasn't able to find that but I did find this in the store and this has a smaller pieces but I'm gonna mix this with my Christmas bub mixture and this is called silver and gold flakes so I have my mixture and once again I'm going to start with a lightly bronze painted face and I'm gonna cover sections of it with Mod Podge and put a lot of glue on the surface now I'm gonna hold the vase over the bowl and sprinkle the mixture all over the area that I glued and I'm gonna use my little craft stick just to make sure there are no pieces overlap and I want the big flakes to show so I'm gonna make sure I move any of them that are overlapping into the glue so they could spread out evenly so I'm just gonna do this all the way around the piece and after it's completely dry this is what it looks like as you can see the texture is very different compared to the other piece but it's still very beautiful and this is what it looks like lit up either from design on a dollar who suggested this has her pieces out now her video out so I'll leave a link to that so you can check out to see what the real German glass glitter looks like they came out beautiful on her pieces now you have about four methods you can use to create beautiful mirrored mosaic faces but I am going to keep experimenting and try to come up with this exact look so if you guys know exactly how this was created write me a note or leave me a comment so we could come up with more beautiful vases now you can get our metallic acrylic craft paint and eight shimmering colors
