the Mastered by his yes you saw me wearing the shirt in metal monthly a little sneak preview that I was going to be reviewing the new morgal blade album It's called heavy metal race it came out Friday April 26th on No Remorse record and it's what I'm talking about now formed in 2018 in Philly their first full length would be fell sorcery abound in 2021 which I loved since then they've had a lineup change with a new bass player and more recently they changed up their guitar player for a lease from metal monthly alumni heavy Temple yay I love that so you've got a band I already like they've added a new member from another band I already like what could possibly go wrong well I could still be full of bile from that deide review and they could just wind up a casualty of War It's Album 13 of [ __ ] God but like why [ __ ] God Glenn I just want to know your reasons I also think [ __ ] God but I have reasons Glenn what are your have I rebalanced my humors the only one way to find out this record has big does what it says on the tin going on I don't know if there's ever been a more aptly titled album It's called heavy metal race it sounds like a heavy metal album made by rats slam dunk we did it woo this is first and foremost a new wave of traditional heavy metal record heavy metal rats is a heavy metal record shocker I know regardless what makes this band interesting is The Wraith part there's certainly a ton of bands on the performance-enhancing drug that is adding blackened elements to a record to help it sell better that shit's mix in like trt and vtor bell for right now morgal blade do manage to do it in their own way with a great balance though while the blackened elements mostly come by way of C's vocals they also hit it with little touches and instrumentation and atmosphere a blast beat here that atmospheric outro to razor sharp there it all goes to making the Perfect Blend to create a oneof one band even though a lot of AXS are trying to deploy this formula right now it's partially because they only dip into it spare inly so they aren't popping on any drug tests and it gives uh much more of an impact when it is deployed at just the right time and I'm deploying a clip at just the right time not weapons still cannnot defend train horse and Men alike ice St dive B to the ground hundreds cry from the covered in [Music] one by one they fell one by one they fell a two of four member shakeup between records is frequently a pretty ominous sign that things aren't going to go great and not necessarily the best foot to go into an important follow-up record on but I don't know what job board they were posting their vacancies on indeed LinkedIn zip recruiter because they ended up getting great hires across the board for more than one reason but we don't need to go into that on bass I absolutely love the sound of Jim Viola what Jim Viola what a name called Jimmy vion bass Viola you know the bass to violins guitar wait no bass is the base to violin guitar I play double base I should know that what am I doing back on track back on track anyways uh his bass tone is just great uh it's placed perfectly in the mix there's like this empty pocket and space that he fills and it feels just right and when he takes Center Stage like at the start of beneath the Black Sails you know why they call him Jimmy ve um sorry I I'll stop and while we already know I'm an Elise fan she does an impeccable job here surprisingly this is actually a more mid-tempo act than you'd expect and Alisa's guitar keeps energy up with great riffs and soaring tone over just jamming BPM down your throat you know I prefer things a little faster so it's even more of a compliment that I'm vibing this hard plus just listen to the great way she kicks off this record [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the material is also great lyrically CL is an awesome Storyteller and he's able to balance both weaving a narrative in one song and occasionally tossing in a catchy course and another I also imagine if you're a big tolken fan there's a real treasure TR of stuff here for you I wouldn't know because I'm not [ __ ] nerd I'm a cool guy who likes sci-fi all these basic things that break the laws of reality that shit's all fantasy I'm into hard sci-fi fantasy is [ __ ] mhm but tolken fan or not he does a good job of also blending lore with relatable content too like in track neither CR nor Crown you get we protest God in heaven this black company rides broken and downtrodden to drunk and proud to die House of tradition will crumble to the ground together in our mission neither cross nor Crown look at that it's a song that's against the church but it's because they're working class and it's a people's Revolution type thing wow see how easy it is Glenn see how easy it is to communicate why you're against the church Glenn and see what you hey do you like me being able to dunk on Glenn Benton for releasing another mediocre dside record and then promote a great Underground band like morgel blade you do well you can keep this happening by tossing a couple of bucks over to Banger patreon campaign it helps fund everything that happens here and allows us to do whatever the hell we want so we really appreciate those of you that can contribute if you can we'd love it if you can't no worries um we got we got some of you and it allows me to keep doing this without having to sell you a meal kit just make dinner we were so close but ah just a little trip up at the finish line with a classic Blain complaint faffing about instead of playing goddamn songs not all that faffing about is a problem like I said the atmospheric and N rasor sharp is fantastically done and I've got nothing bad to say about two of the interludes except the three damn interludes on a 35 minute record it's [ __ ] jarring I was driving my car the first time I listened to the record and I was like what is happening did I download this wrong I'm going to get in a car accident trying to figure this out it probably wouldn't have been as big of an issue if it wasn't for widow's lament which just doesn't fit with the rest of the proceedings I get it's some Lauder [ __ ] and if you're into that you're probably picturing live Tyler singing this nonsense to you to help you nod off to nappy time but to me it sounds like I'm watching and ad for the tourism Board of Ireland or something and yes you know I'm going to play this over an ad for the tourism Board of Ireland because I'm a dickheaded no band is safe SK Creek and gr War for me so A Minor error to an otherwise great record well I've got a doc some points it's nothing the old skip button can't fix and the actual songs they play all rip and I wouldn't cut any of them plus holy hell look at that James buma cover on this thing it's Perfection someone airbrushed that thing on a side of a van ASAP see Glenn look what a good album cover can do for sorry um morgal blade R rad and I think this is another strong showing from them with a great lineup this year has felt a little light on great heavy metal so far but these wraiths ride in to save the day which is actually traditionally not what wraiths do uh four out of five bog skulls love it but of course to close things out we have shout out or I should say shout out because I've done a lot of videos this month and I've just been absolutely drained of shoutouts I do have a great one for you they're label mates so dolman gate gateways of Eternity No Remorse records also came out April 26th yeah they're label mates with morgal
