yeah this is literally like a whole meal in and of itself here holy damn look at the size of that thing and I'll give me some perspective and can you hold it in both hands it's enormous this litter is literally the biggest black Morrell I've ever found this is nice my name is Cameron Meeks and I'm the founder of myriad mycology we're out here in the southern oregon forest searching for morels and it's a beautiful spring day I have yet to find really a set pattern of where to find morels but when I go look for them I look for trilliums I look for shooting stars a lot of times I'll look for stumps and wood debris and look for the edges definitely not in direct sunlight but uh they have a very mysterious characteristic too so with morels time it really is everything you know you have an understanding of when the rains are coming when the temperature shifting the general elevation that people are finding the mat it has a lot of word-of-mouth to it it really uh it's a fun it's a fun occasion to go into the forest and find morels a bad day of mushroom picking is still a great day walking in the forest it's not like you're gonna have a bad time looking for mushrooms unless that's just not your thing but generally speaking if you come out of it with a meal you know I feel deeply satisfied fresh air clear light it's just a really good time so when identifying morels they have a very distinct characteristic they have these deep cavities you know they have black to brown to great white colorations depending upon the species I consider them very distinct I think that they're one of the easiest mushrooms for people to identify when they're beginning going mushroom picking if you're really looking to verify that a morel is a morel one of the best things you can do is you just cut it in half you're looking for the cavity to extend all the way down the length of the mushroom so when you cut it open it should have this very distinct cavity you can see some of the you know just has that little bit of texturing in the middle very distinct smell and there really isn't too many things that look exactly like morels often people confuse morels and false morels but as you can see they have very distinct characteristics that define each of them show me the for a little bit this is Mitra the false morel and then add them around to the and you can see the black morale here has a very distinct difference in its look and with the false morel you have this confusing mess inside that really does not follow the length of the stem so since we're in the middle of a patch right now I'm gonna carry on pick some more morels happy honey you
