Monteverdi High Speed 375 - Jay Leno's Garage

[Music] uh what these are uh is a car built by Peter monover he was uh Swiss he was a Ferrari importer and like a Ferrari importer has had a lot of fights with Enzo Ferrari much like Lamborghini decided to build his own car oh yeah I'll show you I'll build my own car so he designed this car it's called obviously the Mont verie and uh it's a European chassis Italian body a Fisher body using uh Chrysler running gear it was quite popular in the 60s and early '70s to have American uh cubic inches in reliability it's a 440 with a fourspeed uh I saw this actual car at the London Auto Show not one like it this actual car they only Built four with this body as you can see it's a fish of body right there and this is the only one I know that's a fourspeed this is what it looked like when I saw when I was 20 years old it was yellow didn't have the wire wheels on it but it had the 440 with a four-speed it's basically think of it as a uh Road Runner that went to college in Europe you know it's independent suspension disc brakes has all the things that the uh Chrysler version of this car didn't have you know the Sleek Italian body but basically it's just a big old 440 Chrysler let's open the hood as you can see nothing particular trick uh basically it's an American car we've put a modern compressor on it MSD ignition system but basically it's a 440 with a four-speed very long-legged it's like a 293 rear end bronny wire wheels 375 horsepower wonderful high-speed car to drive haven't done a whole lot to it other than cleaned it up it's been a show car its whole life the guy I got it from last drove it in the early 80s so we obviously had to pull the radiator flush it and flush the block and do all the things you normally do uh change all the fluids change all the hoses but that's about it and uh I don't think I'm going to put it back to the original yellow I like the maroon but it's a lacquer paint job and it's showing its age but uh that's basically it come on let's take it for a ride hop in this is what they called a hybrid back in the 6s European chassis with American power plant I love these cars from the' 60s because at the time the European engines one is reliable but here you got this massive 440 with a four-speed made it to European chassis with good handling it's funny these cars aren't as worth as much as some of the Hemi cters and some of the big block road runners but this is essentially a big block car it just handles better and stops better I think these cars will probably go up and value they didn't build very many of them though there's only four of these [Music] ones
