what's the worst thing that ever happened to you how did you react how has it affected the trajectory of your life mob psycho 100 will make you ask these questions the show centers around mob in awkward middle schooler with natural-born psychic powers that make him the opie protagonist of his universe he's not athletic he's not popular and he doesn't believe in himself his real name is she gay Okayama he has a younger brother who is a heck of a lot more popular than him because he's a perfect student athletic and isn't weird mobs life is anything but desirable and yet within him our psychic abilities so powerful that his brother worries he'll just snap one day and kill uncontrollably chigae oh is anything but a killer but with powers that are unprecedented a slip in emotion can be magnified into something lethal emotions are erratic especially when you're in middle school righteous anger for a normal person might end innate nasty disagreement a falling out may be a fight if things get heated enough but for a psychic of mob's caliber having anger or jealousy or any inner demon take over for just a second can mean the end of someone's life being born with super cool psychic powers is not so super cool when losing your cool means death and destruction nobody wants to snap even if it just means saying a horrible thought and ruffling some feathers there are consequences for letting your psyche go when you have a brain one step above a monkey being human is weird and being human with a gift that's a curse for so many is even weird with so much natural-born power many psychics in mob psycho 100 have become obsessed with their abilities the rush of energy and thrill of unhindered ego are tempting but not to mob he's the only one immune to these selfish desires his abilities could help him fulfill what makes him different for someone who's easily manipulated he's strangely immune to being probed into violence starting off nobody can make him fight until his feelings boil over to 100% and unleashed without the slightest assemblance of control suppressed feelings will explode outwards if not addressed if you relate to mob then maybe you've had moments where you hit 100% and finally unleashed how you really felt did it blow up in your face or did something incredible happen if you ever wondered why you acted the way you did if you feel like you can never quite speak your mind or you can't relate to any of that and you just like a dopey anime then wave it all the spooky ghosts rock a haircut that's perfectly John Lennon and prepare yourself for the story of mob the story you never knew [Music] five I'm grant I don't like writing about myself so this is kind of hard but as someone who's had trouble connecting with his emotions mob resonates with me the mob psycho universe is an interesting place there are spooky ghosts and evil spirits doing bad things these demons exist on the other side of reality and spill over just enough to be detected by psychics these entities are an interesting parallel to the emotions in our head they're unpredictable capable of unleashing if they're not kept under control in this world's inner demons manifest on the outside mobs popularity precedes itself but viewers will not be left holding the bag the show delivers between the out-of-this-world surrealistic art style it's emotional impact and fights which visually stimulate YouTube 100% mob psycho realizes its potential this video will spoil that for you if you haven't seen it so go watch that right now or keep watching and enjoy the video at the beginning of season one she Gao is super Opie but has no faith in himself everyone wants to take advantage of him either for his psychic powers or because he's puny and won't fight back he deals with it usually by not even noticing it he's a kid whose own feelings are so foreign to him that he can't help but be jerked around by people who actually know what they want his world isn't kind it's filled with scummy characters and evil spirits both bent on using mob the spirits haunt spooky places they lash out at people who don't deserve it and they're the enemies of mob at least in the beginning is this a metaphor for emotions and inner demons being interchangeable and therefore mob fighting ghosts and demons is like him fighting his own mind yes in my opinion that's why working with Regan is the perfect job for mob Regan is a shady businessman and owner of the aptly named spirits and such a company that deals with spirits and such unsurprisingly Regan takes advantage of mob but and he'll certainly tell you this he is also helping mob hone his powers and figure out for himself what they mean and when exactly to use them this is Reagan's special move kind-hearted dickbag this Sparky smooth con man is just the kind of person to accidentally teach tough lessons to a kid who can't express himself she gay with hardly any connection to his emotions is helpless to decide his own way Reagan is only the first and most ridiculous example of how mobs ability to fight ghosts in spirits with purpose was crafted by people who don't necessarily want what's best for him he's always getting disrespected Reagan keeps calling mob out of the blue for impromptu missions just to make a quick buck no matter how many times he tells Reagan to give him more notice Reagan keeps doing it until mob gains the courage to walk away this leads Reagan to reflect on his own selfishness and finally respect mob as more than just a tool to make money but regardless mob loves Reagan despite the man's personality flaws he was the first person to tell mob that being an esper doesn't define him or make him less human these words would shape mobs future despite them being spoken with intent to make a pathological liar go away the reason this sentiment is so earth-shattering is because this young boy had been living within himself trapped in a mental cage he created after losing control during a stressful situation and accidentally hurting his younger brother the person mob admires the most mob is above all things not a violent person but realizing that he is capable of catastrophic damage when mentally unchecked was enough to force a lock on his feelings mob learning to connect to his own feelings learning to not only know but also act on his feelings is always the driving force behind others giving him the respect he deserves funny enough mobs enemies throughout the show beyond his ghost in spirit slash demon hunting missions are always other people with psychic powers called Esper's virtually all Esper's have an inflated ego and Tudou key Hanazawa is no different this blond preppy jay Biebs wannabe douche nozzle fancies himself superior to everyone and everything to assert his dominance he challenges she gave a one-on-one fight as you-jin Shonen anime the bad boy shows off his sweet energy intel's mob that the world revolves around him t'do keys identity is synonymous with his psychic gift and that's why it becomes a psyche curse when everyone is at your mercy growing up why bother gaining compassion mob is the only real answer to that question once pushed beyond self control mob cuts off tattoo keys hair rips the school into pebbles blows Ted whose clothes off and sends everything into the atmosphere hanging there completely exposed helpless and defeated Ted who realizes that maybe just maybe he was wrong he wasn't special he wasn't the center of the world he's just another human and now a bald useless naked kid in a world where bullies are mean and life is unfair it's only natural for espers to become monsters but she gay despite his dealings with hardships and seething insecurities is one to heed his parent's lesson that he's still human and should remain humble there's an entire organization called claw poised to assume power over everything by bringing together in army of psychics they are convinced of their superiority over normal humans and are even worse than those guys who have ghost parties in the forest in the world of mob Psycho there are normal humans and then there are psychics every Esper who joins claw is a powerful fighter on the outside and a hungry ghost on the inside they put all of themselves all of their identity and meaning into their psychic abilities they all have their reasons glasses guy had a tragic childhood shoulder-pads guy just wanted to be special in the division leader slash feminine Darth Vader but also old man just wanted to climb the social hierarchy to greatness hungry ghosts with lots of power and no maturity or personality to wield it you could say they are more their powers than they are themselves none of them are content mob is the only Esper not heading down a path of total self-destruction by manifesting their inner chaos into the external world all espers see a side of a reality that normal humans this difference in abilities creates a noticeable divide between the two in US and day them in inferior and a superior to Esper's the complete reality that only they witness is dangerous it's isolating it's a heavy weight to balance it's easy to see how they would separate themselves from others they feel can't understand this is a common occurrence in the real world there are those who look deeper into the questions of life and the meaning of existence the answers they find can sometimes be shocking even terrifying it may create a superiority complex or simply a disdain for others who walked through their time on earth simply going with the flow ie the basics but what's important to acknowledge is that we all have our place though there is no scientific explanation for humans roles in nature it's hard not to conclude that everyone has their place in the bigger picture we all need each other there's a moment early on when mob is torn between joining the telepathy Club or the body Improvement Club his choice would decide the fate of the telepathy Club which needed his membership to keep the meeting room the situation is crafted and emotionally charged with screamy voices camera spinning and art style whose mode sit mob could have been manipulated by Tomei chan president of the telepathy Club and given his natural powers it would only make sense for him to join the telepathy Club however thanks to the words of his parents and a solid sense of identity that none of the other uber powerful seemed to have mob seeks approval outside of his powers powers he never bled or sweated for that's why self-realization involves running lifting weights and having real friends being able to collapse buildings with your mind is only a skill it makes you a peculiar kind of human not a god it's a responsibility if your mob and an emotional crutch if you're the Esper's of claw but not all Esper's are self-absorbed psychopaths I mean obviously because mob but many are simply outcasts like Kazuya Serizawa who was a shut-in for years because even leaving his room would fill him with anxiety he was bullied made out be a freak and a dangerous one at that even though he's a really good guy mob obviously has no shortage of bullies either combine this with soul-crushing hardships that life throws at normal humans too and it's easy to believe you're the only thing people fear in you mob is the only psychic to shake it off because he's on a journey to wake his psyche up which reminds me the opie of this show is dope it's so done that they count in English when everything else is in Japanese but mochi super good guys I didn't know till I bought some vods but it's so tasty but like I was saying the opie is dope there is no rhyme or reason for what the next frame will look like and there is some obsession with broccoli my season - there's fractal psychedelics undulating and a 3d rendered spinning disk of mob and regen dancing to the beat it's an oddly perfect representation of a mind expressing itself unhindered when even the art style of the show screams uniqueness and dissolves all preconceived notions of what's allowed it's a moving representation of mobs goal of realizing who he really is and what he really wants my personal favorite line in the song is the first line in the season - Opie get ready wake your psyche up mob get ready dig your anger up mob that's the line that hit me the hardest another line in the season - Opie is the mob is right the mob inside the mob is the inverse of latent untruth is that your ideal is that your mind EEMA Sugo your life is your own notice how mob is being referred to as a mob the mob is right the mob is inside what's that supposed to mean there's a mob inside mob oh my god if you think about it everyone is made up of a mob a group of subpersonalities and each comes out at different times there's a side of you that comes out when you're relaxed with your friends another when you've got a job interview and another when you're hit with a soul-crushing tragedy whether you like it or not the idea of you is an illusion because you is a collective of moods feelings and personas try as you might in aspect of yourself is still a part of you no matter how much you don't like it when mob is confronted with the part of himself that feels self-loathing humiliation and exhaustion from physical exercise he confronts it and develops that aspect of himself rather than hide from it this is how mob makes his life his own this is how mob cultivates his mob well most other espers can't stand the feeling of being weak mob embraces it not only by pushing his physical limits on the track and at the gym but also by building friendships and an all-around solid support network by making and maintaining connections between real authentic friends and family bob is subconsciously acknowledging that he can't make it through life on his own no one can however some are ignorant enough to believe otherwise in the mob psycho universe the ones deepest in this delusion are Esper's these privileged humans are bait for a mindset that can't focus on the mob but rather is obsessed with a single aspect of the self psychic powers and the feelings associated with using them euphoria unrelenting power self-satisfaction all come as side effects for powers that can literally take over the world unless you're someone who hardly feels anything at all then the psychic powers are just another consideration no more emotionally charged than anything else because everything is a shade of gray without connection to his emotions mob can't feel the vibrant intense colors of life and so a nudge from childhood to be humble and kind was enough to override every sensation you'd normally associate with wielding his powers he never got obsessed with himself or his struggle as an outcast because of his indifference because he was asleep - his psyche every voice that ever beckoned or manipulated him was as neutral of an influence as the last his inner demons his aspirations those bullies Reagan the telepathy Club dimple everyone is just another voice in the gray noise this was the cage that saved XI Gail from bitterness and also the one he has to break free from if he's to make his powers worth their headache in the grand scheme of things in episode 11 of season 2 XI Gail confronts famed a magician slash psychic slash basically demon at this point cagey Moga me Moga me spent a lifetime accumulating power and used it to justify his own bitter perspective as the best Esper of the 20th century it's no surprise you thought the world would revolve around him it's only mob who can threaten to put him in his place during a moment of respect MOCA me tells mob there are some things that cannot be solved with mere kindness it's also necessary to be hard on people at times if you can do that you will be invincible mob reflects on that moments later the fact that hearing this sparked mob to repeat it to himself moments later is proof enough that he was starting to feel some vibrance at this point mob was well on his journey to awakening his psyche of connecting to his emotions and freeing himself from the protective cage that was starting to crush him but mob doesn't interpret being hard on others as Mogami did later on in the episode it's clear something has clicked she gay doesn't become violently hard on others as Mogami intended he doesn't use his powers to dominate but he uses his words to tell his weaker companions friends and family to stay behind because they'll only slow him down he's finally learning to assert himself to feel his own feelings enough to tell everyone what's obviously true but also hard to hear that's the transformation of XI Guay Okayama the work in progress defined by improving every aspect of his life so as not to descend into the hell of being a power-hungry ghost his indifference protected him from the dopamine drip of overwhelming power but it also led to his abilities being used by those with a firmer grasp on who they are he learns to hear the yells of his own mob instead of trusting others more than he trusts himself not holding back was terrifying but the consequences of staying the same were even more so mob cultivated the mob within himself the amalgamation of voices in selves who collectively make up his psyche and built it into an army that serves himself and the world at large we are the sum total of all aspects of our personality when our emotions pull our strings we can lose control and become the unapologetic version of who we've spent our whole life cultivating the person you became react to circumstances differently than the person you could have become if during your 100% moments you brilliantly execute just the right moves then you balance the mob within you well enough to deal with the pressures of life on an intuitive level if you do everything wrong with an air of arrogance then you have something in common with cloth do be the protagonist like mob one has to sculpt every part of themselves so your weakest self doesn't have the chance to rear its head during heated moments mob broke free without breaking his morals by becoming a real-life social human who also runs into exercises and studies and isn't above the toil of becoming better that's how mob never truly lost control that's the story of mob this story you never knew and that's my take on mob psycho not connecting with one's emotions can be difficult but it's a journey right like I said I'm not super comfortable talking about myself so I'll leave it at that shoutout to the lucky patron of the week nakisha thanks nakisha like it like seriously every week we choose a random lucky patron from our patreon and we shot him out
