encore on Thursday against McKenzie Gore a highly touted left-hander making his fifth start of the Year G somebody that this Nationals organization really feels that they can Center their rotation moving forward around this left-hander he's a type of guy he's got some good hard stuff he's going to throw it up in the zone he's got that cutter the for seamer the curve change up slider you know the the for seamer is what he lives by right and that's something that again they're hitting about 275 off of them but that's the pitch that if he can throw that up in the zone get the Dodgers to Chase he can be effective coming off a loss to Houston was the only game of that Seas series that the Nationals dropped he's starting opposite Justin Verlander in that one and now he's got the Dodgers sport there is and you can talk to me about these other endeavors but this one is just it's a constant kick to the midsection and if you don't have confidence you're not going to perform and right now so uh yeah he's just mixing um you know keeping them off balance last night you had a four hit game it was your third of the season but when you look back to what last year looked like for you offensively early in the year taking that pitch off your rib dealing with some injury how much different has this year felt for you offensively especially just healthwise yeah I mean it's still early but you know the body feels good um yeah I think just going through the whole process last year learned a little bit of my swing um I think it's just something you're always learning and and improving uh so right now yeah just work with the hidden coaches a lot um just trying to keep it going what about defensively for you this year we've seen some big plays in which you've gotten the runner out at second base caught them stealing when you think about just if there were some adjustments that you made defensively how have you seen them play out and continue to just improve you uh yeah I mean I'm always working on the defense uh receiving catching uh blocking throwing um yeah I think mean the biggest adjustment when it comes to steals is uh you know pitchers taking more more ownership in it being quicker the play better at pickoffs um so just as a team we're doing a better job with that stuff this year you're going to be having with your catching Hope Foundation there's going to be some excitement with a comedy show coming up who on this team if you had to put them up on that stage who do you think is the I guess comedian of the group uh we got a knock oh Mook is going too uhoh oh he's got it oh man I'd probably say uh Kik put Kik up there yeah all right so now maybe I know you just signed a big contract but do you think TV could be the next step if you have to keep working for me yeah no that's pretty good no absolutely not no all right well look just getting back to baseball with this team uh in this rotation everything you've been seeing so far this year seeing guys just getting more consistent of course tacking hitters having incredible games what has been just your takeaway from this starting pitching group so far the starting pitching uh you know I think it start off really good uh glass now's been throwing the ball really well uh you got Paxton there Yoshi's just continuing to get better um uh Bobby you know is on the aisle now but he was throwing the ball good Stony and Knack just two rookies coming up uh putting together some good Innings um a couple starts last ones for him so you know overall just a lot of talent I know we're excited for Walker to get back here um so yeah I mean we got a really good staff excited for him and you know it's going to help us out I don't want to completely change topics on you but sh Otani is at the plate right now what how impressive are his at bats when he hits the ball how loud does it sound to you cuz I think to all of us it's like Earth shattering yeah it's it's crazy how hard he hits it I feel like anytime he touches the ball it's just a rocket off the bat um the line drive he hit yesterday was like 115 off the bat I I thought he hit that 125 and I was like wait his Homer the night before was hit even harder so it's it's incredible what he's doing up there is there anything when you have a play player like that can you like learn something from him or he's just a one-of-a-kind talent that he kind of just is in his own space yeah he's that's he's the only he can do that maybe a couple of guys but you know we can just take away how his work ethic um you see him every day how he approaches the game how he prepares uh that's what we all take away we can't go hit a ball 120 M hour but we can be like him in you know in the cage and stuff so before I let you go just getting back to the pitching quickly the bullpen that those guys what have you been seeing from them and how have they continued just to really you know make their names and show how impressive this group of arms is yeah they just continue to get better uh you know continue to fine-tune things get more comfortable out there um it's a lot of guys that have been around the league for a while so just relying on them uh you know trying to keep them healthy um go out there and put up you know quality Innings to shut out ball games well thank you for joining us well I know it's your off day but you're locked in you're
