[Music] [Applause] [Music] welcome to baseball season's 1984 the year of the tiger [Applause] when a baseball season starts it's like the dawn of a new day there's optimism hope and a belief of what is to come at the dawn of the 1984 season this rank truer than most years for unlike much of the sports history there was no dominant team lording over the competition following a decade of dynasties in the seventies who by the ages the Big Red Machine and the Yankees [Applause] the 80s began with four different champions in four years a Leyden but if one had to choose a favorite many would have picked the defending champs the Baltimore Orioles I think your honor kidding yourself if we don't recognize that Baltimore's best club in baseball the Troy Tigers skipper Sparky Anderson may have had a healthy respect for his division rivals but having manage multiple Hall of Famers to a pair of championships in Cincinnati he also knew that in his sixth year in the Motor City he had a ballclub on the verge of greatness bill James once said the greatest five-year span in draft history is between 74 and 78 when the Tigers literally drafted this team from Lance Parrish in 74 yet had Lou Whitaker in 75 traveling Petry Morris in 76 this is a very young corps they were all in their mid 20s market came in with a five-year plan and you know it's kind of kind of cute when you say that five-year plan was because he had five-year contract but he had a method to his madness so to speak I mean he knew exactly what he was doing 83 we were knocking on the door but 84 what the right piece is at it that we felt like we were mature enough and ready to handle it the pieces added weren't abundant but they were key first came the power fresh off a 30 Homer all-star season veteran Darrell Evans brought strong leadership and pop later came back up first baseman Dave Bergman over from the National League as well as a reliever who had the potential to fill a big Sparky knew that he needed a closer and he did the 83 playoffs on radio and he saw Willie Hernandez and then he saw him in the World Series as a fan he said we've got to get this back Sparky got his guy and with a roster that he had shaved headed north so my wife on the phone I always tell her when we leave camp where we're gonna fence I said we're gonna win this the Tigers kick things off in Minnesota with a convincing to being sweep of the twins then they rolled it in Chicago and in their fourth game of the season in front of a national television audience Detroit made a strong statement I remember being real cold number one and Jack was always pretty good with that split finger when the the umpires allow him to blow on his hand like that seemed like he got a good grip on the split finger Morris also got help from a defense already in midseason for Kirk Gibson made the best play of the day out in the outfield there in right field 1 1 pitch there start to get to the sixth and seventh inning you know everybody starts to be aware of their surroundings and start preparing for what might happen [Applause] started off with a no-hitter and in Chicago there's just a magical year a no-hitter in the first week would be a good start or so but that Tigers were just getting warmed up as they went on a tear unprecedented in the modern era 17 games enroll on the road 35 and 5 I mean I can't believe that we did it Tiger you know what I get when someone says you were 35 and 5 you almost have to step back and say really [Applause] there's been teams that were great and maybe even greater such as the Yankees but I have never seen anybody can off that great start the decade had begun with the nation mired in a recession but by 1984 America felt like a country on the rebound in New York with Wall Street flourishing a ballclub was also on the rise no it wasn't the blue-chip Yankees the team in the Bronx had quickly fallen behind the Tigers instead it was the club in Queens who was capturing the back pages the New York Mets the team started turning around and if the kashi took over I think we're gonna win a pennant if I didn't really feel that way I wouldn't have taken the job in the first place he immediately set to work building the foundation through the draft first with the number one overall pick Darryl Strawberry in 1980 then in 82 he would take a wiry fireballer with a fifth overall pick Dwight Gooden teshon would balance his young roster with a pair of former MVPs in George Foster and Keith Hernandez but the 82 world champ was less than excited about the change the fact that they were our last place team man we're coming off a world championship he's probably the lowest point in my a major league career and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise the final piece of Cashion's puzzle was his faith in a young person year manager Steve Johnson we were at the World Series and we found out that Davi was gonna be named the next day Davi talked and talked to talking when he was done he said and one more thing I want to thank Cashion for having me I'm telling him to hire me this year we knew we had something special right there perhaps the greatest move was to carry an 18 year old rookie on his pitching staff Davey Johnson was my manager year before in triple-a oh I got called up from a bowl and he had told me when the season's over wherever he managed to follow a year he's taking with him Dwight Gooden may have been only a teenager but he immediately showed the poise of a veteran and the stuff of a star fastball struck him out so Dwight Gooden gets his first major league strikeout Davey Johnson saw was someone who didn't just have a good arm obviously you could see what really impressed the manager was the control the command that Dwight Gooden had at a young age probably the greatest Phenom the game has ever seen doc gooden just was he was magnificent on the mound they overpowering with his fastball he had a knee buckling curveball and he too had a little bit of an edge to him out there on that mound for this day is the best picture I've ever seen but as exciting as the young Mets were they were not the only story in the NL East after six straight losing seasons on the north side of Chicago the Cubs were ready to bring a winner to Wrigley this Cubs team had a good mix of playoff veterans like Larry Bowa Gary Matthews and Ron Cey to go with a budding superstar by the name of Brian Sandberg the Sandberg was unbelievable I mean here's a guy at the second baseman Owen filler that had power PSB had a great glove you missed a spot just go make it pay [Applause] no one game exemplified sanborns emergence more than a Saturday afternoon tilden June with the Cubs biggest rival the st. Louis Cardinals I never fall behind early I think about seven to one what a day Willie McGee had I think Bob Costas and Tony Kubek was doing the game and they'd already kind of started running the credits in the ninth and we're given the player of the game award to Willie and deservedly so maybe deservedly so but also prematurely as Sandberg stepped to the plate with a chance to tie the game I just remember having a good game already having three hits going into that into the ninth inning faced and Bruce Souter split finger fastball very hard to elevate the baseball but I will remember going up there and and getting a pitch that I thought was up a little bit I aim for the bottom of the baseball we tied it up and we're still alive and the place went wild bruised suitors still in there in the eleventh inning as closers did back then they pitch multiple innings now he's going for a win I come up again with two outs and a man on first 1 1 pitch McGee there may be a new player of the game it was like floating around the basis it was incredible feeling Cimber could hit two separate game-tying home runs of the premier relief face in the league he was the best second baseman ever because I think he hit four home runs off me now was the year that Rhino really you know came out special player Sandberg would pace the Cubs with five hits in seven RBIs leading Chicago to a 1211 victory in 11 innings serving notice to the rest of baseball that the Cubs were back it was a sunny outlook for the San Diego Padres in 1984 as they emerged as frontrunners in the NL West for the first time in their 16-year history the building of this team again when franchise icon Dave Winfield left for the Yankees by a free agency after 1980 and a new GM Jack McKeon came in to run the club Ray Kroc was the owner and sat down and talked and he said to me how long does it take you to put a team together to win the World Championship or get into the World Series and I said well take about five years of vital step was to hire manager Dick Williams after the 81 season his no-nonsense approach invigorated the organization my reputation appreciated me because that was a no-nonsense kind of manager I believed in execution of fundamentals I grew up in a Brooklyn Dodger organization and that was pumped into us from day one I was scared of him I'd be honest I was scared of him because you just never knew from day-to-day you know what you were gonna get you know when it came to the game of baseball he taught me a lot McKeon would seek out players that Williams could mold together into a winner one key acquisition was the poaching of free agent Steve Garvey from the high profile Dodgers I remember meeting with Ray Kroc in his office and he said Stevie said I think you can make a different series I know you can make a difference on the field but I know your commitment to the community and he said I want you here and that's all I needed we all like to be wanted and in that moment I knew that San Diego's going to be the place for me and prior to the 84 season McKeon continued to pursue former world champs this time pillaging the Yankees first he signed defensive stalwart Greg Nettles then he closed out his roster with relief ace goose Gossage we were set we had a mixture of veterans and young kids that they worked well together and I will say this metals and Gossage after a game they'd sit around with the young kids and talk baseball I feel it's just one of those things where you don't have to say much it's kind of lead by example and just go out and and do your job like professional and and the kids are gonna follow for a young player who was wanted to learn stuff it was a great environment to be around goose and nettles both talked about what it was like in New York it was like coming down the stretch and Garth talked about things you needed to do on a daily basis you need to stay even keel you can't get too high to get too low and I ate all that stuff up I mean I was just trying to establish myself as a guy who could play at the big league level in his third year in the league Greene was becoming an impact player and a serious contender for his first batting title with their young right fielder leading the charge offensively the Padres young pitching was more than capable of putting this team in position to make a run Eric shall mark Thurmond and Dave dravec II all admirably filled their roles but perhaps the Padres greatest attribute was their team chemistry we had quite a blend of characters on that ballclub and players had a good time getting on each other before the game so that kind of loosened everything up you know we all have different personalities and once they hit the field you know we all played well together Jack McKeon had built the ideal club for dick Leland's the guy and it all chilled in the first half as the Padres at a five game lead in the NL West heading into the all-star break meanwhile in the AL West there was no clear front-runner the AL West wasn't very strong the American League East was the powerhouse if you looked at the records they were probably three or four teams the American League he said better record than anyone in the West for much of the first half that was John McNamara's veteran angels lead the way with nearly every starter in the lineup north of 30 none more seasoned than to surefire Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Reggie Jackson so without the true frontrunner in the West the twins led by young sluggers Ken her back in time for Nancy and the always dangerous Kansas City Royals stayed in contention with the Angels for the AL West pennant as the first half continued it became increasingly clear this was the year of the tiger and perhaps no game I did that more than a June 4th battle between Detroit and the Toronto Blue Jays owners of the second best record in baseball despite the Tigers 35 and 5-star Toronto incredibly was able to stay within striking distance just three and a half games back in early June and on Monday Night Baseball the two teams were locked in a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 10th when Dave Bergman the other player in that Willie Hernandez trade came to the plate Dave Bergman may have provided a signature moment for the most dominant team in baseball but the man he was treated with was having a signature season in his first year with the Tigers Willian and des would go on to convert 32 or 33 save opportunities with an e ra of 192 and an aura of invincibility when you're gonna have a dream season like the Tigers had you have to have that x-factor that nobody expects and that is what happened to the Tigers in 84 willie hernandez became the greatest relief pitcher in baseball from nowhere' Hernandez would join five other teammates at the all-star game in San Francisco [Applause] [Music] but instead of Detroit Kamandi everyone's attention a pair of pitchers from the national aided stole the show Fernando Valenzuela of the Dodgers comes out of the bullpen to work in the third inning just 23 and already appearing in his fourth all-star game Fernando show just how spectacular it could be [Applause] as he struck out a trio of perennial all-stars up next was the rookie everyone in baseball was talking about Dwight Gooden what's the phone ringing I got the call that helps get enough for going to game at the friend oh I know it's very very nervous if I was probably more nervous that I didn't want to you know fill with national TV good was overpowering as valenzuela's anytime you dominate in an all-star game it sends your career on a different path as the second half got underway there was some remarkable milestones being approached he will is continued as march toward one of the most hallowed records in all of baseball ty Cobbs all-time hit mark Charlie hustle the past 4,000 earlier in the season as an expo but by mid-august was back in a red uniform as player-manager all the nights that I spent at Riverfront Stadium in terms of the level of electricity that was in the ballpark on any given night I don't think it was any bigger than it was the night that Pete came back and played in his first game in Anaheim Reggie Jackson's September blast made him the 13th player in history to reach 500 home runs and the Angels would end the regular season on another high note as Mike net closed in on pitching perfection that's where the story in the Bronx where teammates Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield took their duel for the batting title down to the final day Dave established himself as a superstar in the league and that's what I think a lot of people are for the underdog you know they're for the young kid they make it no money yet so it was a lot easier on me than I think it was on Dave a lot more pressure on him going into the final game Winfield was at 341 Mattingly 339 but while Dave only went one foot for Donnie baseball put on a show by going for four five he won the title I think he had a 343 and I was 340 and as we walked off the field and we docked our caps to all the people Donnie had the platform to himself and it was good but despite the Yankees having the two top hitters an American lead they were no match for the Tigers who won the Eastern Division with ease the question then was which of the other player of bounties was strong enough to challenge Detroit while the AL East was the story of the Detroit Tigers baseball's other three divisions had their own unique narratives over in the NL East the Mets and Cubs that rekindled a rival bid and the big market teams now had big market stars to leave them in New York where Dwight Gooden had become the seasons breakthrough star every performance was a must-see act [Applause] what a job by good the Mets were far from a one-man show as New York was a team on the rise you had Keith who is the veteran guy you had strawberry with so much talent power and a bunch of young pitchers and Davey made it work baby Genesis may have been a rookie skipper but he managed you like icon and season is that when you have young pitchers to keep you in a ball game if we get a lead going in and seven eight the ninth inning we can beat anybody but as the dog days arrived it was clear the second city wasn't interested in second place this was due in part to the move their general manager Dallas Green had made confident his club could make a run the former World Series winning manager went out and fortified his pitching staff he goes out and gets Dennis Eckersley Rick Sutcliffe and those two starting pitchers going into our rotation at that time was a huge message to the team that hey we're here to do something we're here to have a chance to win and in early August the Cubs sought to make a statement against their newfound rivals as they met for a crucial for game set in Wrigley watch the plan to play [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] after the sweet that Cubs look to be headed to the postseason due in large part to the MVP caliber play of second baseman Ryan Sandberg who was doing it in the field on the bases and at the plate I just feel real comfortable at the play right now and things are going good joining Sandberg and the Cubs and a June trade was Rick Sutcliffe emerging as one of the best pitchers in the National League his brilliance at the Cubs faithful dreaming about their first playoff appearance in nearly four decades well write the script we'll be going down in history and it was fitting that their prized acquisition would send them to the postseason [Applause] while the Cubs grab the spotlight out west the San Diego Padres flew under the radar they were a team loaded with World Series pedigrees and championship hopes those guys who've been through it once before to really help the young guys along because when it gets down to August or September those guys are gonna be the guys who rise to the top it was clear Gwynn was an excellent student of the game at 24 the MVP candidate was leading in the lead in both average and hits the Padres mix a talent and experience had them cruising into the NL West title San Diego was no longer a sleepy little baseball town if the NL East story was about stars and the AL East about dominance then the AL West was simply about survival multiple contenders all scratching but only one would advance a week after the all-star break Casey was struggling 11 games under 500 in sixth place and 8 games on a first but the Royals of 1984 had winning in their game this franchise had been playoff regulars for the better part of the past decade and the veterans of this group would make sure they took advantage of a weak division it feels good and feels real again despite both of whatever records that we have or anybody else has in September a pitching staff that seemed too young at the start of the season had matured into one of the most adept in the American League we had a young guy named Bret Saberhagen come up looked like he was about 17 years old looked like a clubhouse kid Marc Cooper's are the type of guy that I think anybody would want their daughter going to the high school prom with Danny Jackson you wouldn't want to meet this guy in a dark alley well the one thing I didn't notice these guys could flat-out pitch anchoring it all out of the bullpen was Dan Quisenberry whose signature submarine style was good for 44 saves although they finished with just 84 wins the Royals won the division and were moving on to the 1984 playoffs [Applause] Western Division champions I think because nobody expected it it was such a great feeling and it was a great celebration because 84 was supposed to be a rebuilding year and here we are in the playoffs it is a beautiful bloodless win last night but game 1 the Detroit Tigers against the Kansas City Royals the Tigers went into the American League Championship Series as heavy favorites they'd won 20 more games than the Royals during the regular season the largest difference in championship series history the Detroit brackets have heard the Kansas City record tour so that would make this upcoming American League series look like a mismatch like the regular season the Tigers jumped out to a fast start as Alan Trammell got them going in the first [Applause] Tramell would score to get Jack Morris a 2 nothing lead in his first career postseason start and that was plenty for the Tigers horse who went 7 strong and he was leading Detroit to an 8 1 victory in Game two the Tigers again struck early against the Royals 20 year old rookie Brett Saberhagen trailing 3 to 2 late the Royals would be the seemingly impossible by getting to really Hernandez [Applause] Fernandez had surrendered the lead in his first post-season save opportunity and the game was now a battle of the bullpens but it was the Royals fireman Dan Quisenberry who and his third inning of work failed to keep the Tiger's cage [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Leo Lopez showed Detroit's bullpen depth by pitching three scoreless innings himself and sending the Tigers back to Detroit with a commanding two nothing lead [Applause] two days later the Tigers scratched out an early run in a second Castillo Springs ground ball to short contempt yard over the white there's one the way they the first that would be all 17-game winner Milt Wilcox would be as he threw eight shutout innings of two hit ball [Applause] and then handed things over to her their desk to close it out [Applause] we were scared to death the whole year we got off that great start and we were scared that we're gonna blow it and Sparky kept kept us honest about it then when we got to the playoffs he goes it just gets funner and he goes in the World Series that's the funnest of all welcome to Wrigley Field in Chicago the first game of the National League Championship Series as the Union Stadium in the majors without lights playoff baseball and Wrigley would only be played during the day and on this day the Cubs provided an immediate jolt of electricity in the bottom of the first [Music] [Applause] I geared up for a fastball and he threw it a little up and over the dish and I headed off the fence in left field the back fence for a home run in that start of the day then two batters later Sarge Gary Matthews followed suit and Wrigley though was in a state of delirium [Music] [Applause] in the third pitcher Rick Sutcliffe got in on the fun [Applause] put that many runs up against Eric shale was something you know that really didn't happen that much me Sutcliffe went seven and the Cubs cruised to a 13 nothing win the next day the Cubs ran out to a 4-1 lead after four innings Steve trout coasted through eight in the third before turning things over to Lisa [Applause] [Music] they were just a win away from their first World Series appearance since 1945 [Music] - fairly easy wins for us we get on the flight going to San Diego and felt good about our chances that's for sure trailing two games to none the Padres headed back home but their World Series dreams on life support we get on the plane we're coming home it was absolutely silent got off the plane get on the bus we're going back to the stadium it was just a sea of people I don't know seven eight nine thousand people are standing out there and they're screaming three in a row from that moment on I think we thought you know we still had a chance welcome to Jack Murphy Stadium Game three of the championship series in the National League everybody across the country knows what has to happen going into Game three 62,000 people scream and it was so loud you couldn't talk to the person next to you the Padres fed off that energy and the fifth inning they took their first lead of the series then in the sixth Kevin McReynolds put an exclamation mark on it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] in Game four that Cubs took a 3-2 lead in the floor hoping to regain the momentum lost from Game three but the persistent Padres kept finding ways to claw back into gays [Applause] [Music] and no matter how many times the Cubs tried to wrest control from the Padre [Applause] [Music] [Applause] San Diego refused to give it up after blowing a late lead Tony Gwynn got the pods going in underneath with a one-out single bringing up Steve guard who already had three hits on the night there's one guy probably you didn't want to have to mess with in their lineup in a tough spot like that I picked Garvey if he got away I rise to the occasion [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the roar of the crowd as Garvey's ball goes over the wall that roar has stayed with me I think anybody who played on that team could talk about that roar anybody who was in a ballpark that night could talk about that roar this euphoria almost froze in mid air and I lifted up my arm in fest and we were on our way to game 5 in baseball momentum is only as good as the next day starting pitcher and in game 5 the Cubs had their ace on the mound Rick Sutcliffe was going you know he was 16 and 1 he'd already beaten us once and game one and again like that comes it done you know pretty much every game they jumped on us early [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] we come to the bottom of the six in and for whatever reason all 62,000 people decided at that moment they were going to get up on their feet and try to help us get back in the game off the crowd San Diego chipped away at the lead scraping together two runs in the sixth to trim the deficit to one suddenly the momentum began to switch for Cubs fans there was a sinking feeling of inevitability and in the seventh that feeling became a reality I'd seen Leon make that play many many times and even if he didn't make the play just to have knocked it down then the time run possibly would still be at third not have a chance to hold the lead but there was just so much momentum in that ball park the burden has been lifted so now we can kind of take our shot at trying to make something happen and leader in the inning with two men on gwyn got his shot I step up to the plate and I'm just looking for something I can hopefully dry [Applause] I hit it good but when I hit it I thought off boy that's a double play balls right ass and then I look up at the ball rollin in rice in the field then they can say you know both runs and scored and I'm standing at third-base next I see Virgil and the place is going bonkers [Applause] meeting six three in the ninth it was now clear who was the team of destiny as the Padres prayers were being it [Applause] the Padres had become the first National League team in Championship Series history to come back from the two nothing deficit and we're headed to their first ever World Series it was an electric afternoon for us and they end up winning that game and going on to the World Series is outstanding but San Diego couldn't rest on their laurels Game one of the 1984 World Series a beautiful night for a big ball game the Tigers were waiting for the Padres ready to resume their unrelenting push towards a title 19 game winner Jack Morris with base 14 game-winner mark Thurmond in Game one and as usual Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell got things going early for the Tigers said I'm not trying just [Applause] and the Tigers have done it again they scored in the first inning but in the bottom of the inning the pods took the lead proving they weren't going to be an easy out showcasing their trademark postseason resiliency [Applause] and the score would stay that way until the fifth inning drive to right field win gone back to the track with a one-run lead Jaguars continued his postseason success and went the distance baris goes all away in Game two the Tigers continued their season-long script of jumping out early with three runs in the first again the Padres responded this time was spectacular relief from their bullpen in the fifth after cutting the lead to one pinch-hitter Kurt Bevacqua with only nine RBIs all year stepped to the plate with two runners aboard [Applause] the Tigers bass were silenced on two hits after the first inning and the Padres had taken Game two suddenly the 1984 World Series was even heading back to Detroit it had been 16 years since Tiger Stadium had been home to a World Series champion with a Fall Classic tied at one Detroit returned to its ballpark with the expectation that after three home games that drought would end Sparky kind of fooled us to believe season was the hard part then we had to win the pennant so there's a great pressure in doing that and after you win the pennant you got to win the World Series for the first time in three games Detroit failed to take a lead in the first no problem they scored four in the second Marty swings [Applause] and that would prove to be enough as Willie Hernandez came on in the seventh to shut down the Padres last threat with a run in and a man on third two out and Terry Kennedy at the plate Kennedy here it comes the wings as they fly ball to Center lemon going back still back back back reaches jedd lemons grab helped put the Tigers up to one in the series as the Padres started to come to grips with what they were up against the Tigers were clearly a superior team they had so much self belief that the better team was going to win and the better team's best player was a local San Diego boy who was hammering his hometown team he swings [Music] [Applause] like they did in Games one and two Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell got the Tigers going and travel would continue his onslaught in pursuit of the World Series MVP next time up third inning lose on base to a no again on Eric Shou stay in the ball well he throws me a spinner slider breaking the Tigers ace Jack Norris was on his game again throwing his second complete game crafting his reputation as a clutch postseason pitcher Jack Pitts outstanding and up 3-1 right now I'm just very happy the Tigers are poised to claim that page in the World Series scrapbook leading three games to one and history does not offer much encouragement to the Padres you come in saying this is it men we want to get it done let's finish it here it is said that to win a championship the Stars have to play like stars Kirk Gibson was the only player in the AL with at least 20 homers and 20 steals now in Game five it was time for this local Detroit product to shine [Applause] the Troy's rightfielder got the Tigers off to another first inning lead with a two-run blast and though the Padres battled back game and Kirk Gibson would not be denied in the fifth with Gibson prowling on third base in the game tied pinch hitter rusty coast lifted a pop-up behind second [Applause] [Music] lady detroit and then in the 8th with the game still in the balance and the tigers only up 1 DB came up to face their goose with runners at 2nd and 3rd 1st base was open Kirk Gibson comes up and I looked over in the dugout and dick was 1 for 4 put him on you know like this and and I'm shaking my head will dick calls timeout first base is open to men on it's very simple strategy for balls put them on [Music] you mean you're talking about breaking them out yeah all right one man out I looked over at Sparky and he said he didn't want to walk in I'm thinking no kidding and I think he's gonna strike me out I just started looking up in the right-field bleachers there I was thinking this is the World Series this one it counts and I'm gonna get you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Gibson's home run set the stage for the Tigers first World Championship since 1968 [Music] [Applause] it's interesting to see how grow men react when they win a World Series to me one of the most passed teams and people that I've ever been around the euphoria of 1984 celebration would shine as a lasting legacy for Tiger Stadium honored one last time on the eve of its closing in 1999 for the Padres who would also finish the century without a title 1999 marked a milestone in the brilliant Hall of Fame career of Tony Gwynn Dwight Gooden would not have to wait for his record accomplishments in just his sophomore year he pitched one of the greatest seasons the game is witnessed and for the Royals 1985 would also be a banner year as the team thought to be in transition in 1984 made the transition in grand style [Applause] [Music] world champion in baseball winning the World Series can turn players into heroes but for the 84 Tigers it's more than having finished it's how they started well they're going to be remembered for 35 and 5 start they're gonna be remembered as the only one of three wire-to-wire teams in the 20th century it was our year by far the most special year in my career [Music] you
