national league all-stars evans field brooklyn 1947. when jackie robinson stepped onto a major league baseball field for the first time armed with supreme talent and unshakeable character and wearing a dodgers uniform he changed the game of baseball and so much more that inspiration that profound impact looms just as large today as it did [Music] 75 years ago [Music] and the fans will never forget the sight of jackie robinson carrying for the plate on his daring steel for a second straight year you are leading off the all-star game this time it's dodger stadium clayton kershaw on the mound what swinging flair of a base hit into center ohtani even told him through tom verducci first pitch swing and he did and he broke his back but he's got a base hit you know as a pitcher and an all-star game that's what you have to fight against here's the first pitch he gets it off the end of the bat pitches away but he goes up there swinging tanya bore with the lead off hit kershaw to judge after a toss over he picked him off kershaw erases ohtani well like i said he hasn't got a hit i don't know if he's walked off of kershaw so it may be the the first time he's ever seen that move let me give him my lead and now kershaw comes back home and job strikes out swinging on a filthy slider from kershaw two gone three two and the dirt endeavors takes the walk kershaw ground ball to short trey turner goes the short way and ends the inning clayton's scoreless inning hits this one down behind a fair ball ricochets off of one of the ball boys down the line and acuna's got a lead off double his 3-1 is grounded up the middle base hit center field acuna heads home and mookie betts has the national league in front [Applause] it's a one-nothing game and we go down to ken rosenthal that's swatted up the middle spear with a backhand by jimenez what a play to turn two jimenez anderson onto first a sparkling double play you're handing out an mvp for the first half it'd probably be him that ball is crushed to left center field paul goldschmidt hits it out two nothing nationally and so his monster season doesn't take a break here at the all-star game it's 2-0 just an underrated superstar that's how good this collection the national league all-stars is that he's taken on he gets a swing and a miss here from contreras to finish off this first inning one of the best pitchers in baseball here john sandy alcantara i could talk for two innings on this young man he is a throwback look at the numbers on the year you mentioned the throwback thing seven plus innings 13 consecutive starts and efficiently retires stanton on three pitches 98 comes out of his hand free and easy great mechanics good balance and back-to-back case for sandy alcantara to first easy play goldschmidt and a one two three second inning for alcantara alec how you doing i'm good i'm good i'm good here we go here we go there's one that was perfect man there we go there's two pretty pretty good two up two down and a couple okay more like front shoulder and up front hip john what do you want foot slider down and low oh you're sexy here we go no no no no no right down the middle but we'll take it three punches everybody thought was too small didn't think he was athletic enough but he's become one of the best players in the american league he starts this inning with a base hit into left center jose ramirez leads off the fourth with a single that ball is hammered to left center field goodbye two-run shot tie game right up to where he used to sit as a kid coming to games here at dodger stadium and it's gonna be exactly what i just said we're gonna see this replay watch this hands and then gone that quick he turns on a ball and hits it a mile byron buxton puts the ale in front two mammoth home runs stanton in and out buxton well another one up in the zone but that's just strength right there quick bat and now there's no shadows so the hitting's going to be a little bit easier than it was early in the game and advantage hitters byron boxton in his first trip to the all-star game has a home run the summer of special moments for the contreras brothers and their family bounce the third ramirez knocks it down and has no play conference on with one out and it brings up albert pujols 42 years old in his 22nd and final year in all-star for the 11th time i mean you need a long time to declare how great he's been and his resume headed to cooperstown went back to st louis he's here in l.a for his swan song and i can only imagine what that must feel like coming full circle for a long great career on a 2-2 pitch pujols hits a high fly ball down the line to left that intended dancing around putting it away pujols flies out to left two gone in the fourth inning jack peterson to the plate we got pujols representing the national league as a legend on a 2-2 pitch peterson swings and misses and that is a scoreless fourth inning for paul blackburn miguel cabrera who got himself to 3 000 hits cabrera the most home runs for any venezuelan-born player on a ground ball to shortstop and that is out number one and cabrera retired this young man has the makeups of being dominant eighth pitch is in there for strike three luisa rise of the minnesota twins who tries to lay off the high fastball but can't yeah down on strikes 3-2 game halfway home in the all-star game in los angeles pitcher for the american league is martin perez 31 years old is in his 11th year and an all-star for the first time grounded his second santiago espinal into the game throws them out one away another 3-2 is ripped up the middle there's espinol again steps into the throw two out of course hits for average grounds this one off the end of the bat there's ramirez ranging to his left to get soto and finish off a one two three inning for martin perez tonight we deliver a powerful message as we join our partners stand up to cancer and reaffirming a commitment to the fight against cancer major jay cronin worth got him clase strikes out the side in the ninth inning and the american league wins the all-star game for the ninth consecutive season and now the on the field mvp when the galaxy of stars came to l.a one shown brighter than all the rest from notre dame high school the ted williams mvp award winner giancarlo stanton ted williams
