[Music] all right what's going on welcome to the studio both physically to the place and to the studio channel the first video of uh behind the scenes but also this is the studio tour this is the official this is the video people have been asking for for a long time so what better way to open the studio channel than with a studio tour i'll be your host for this i'm marquez but because this is a studio tour this is your chance this is our chance to meet the team and to show to share the entire space and what we do here and how we do it and just all the gadgets and goodies that i'm sure people want to see that enable such just great videos so if you turn around real quick you can see we've got a lot to talk about here we've got the office space we've got all the space behind the office space all these different rooms over here so it's going to be a good one buckle up but hit the subscribe button right off the top because you're going to want to see more of this stuff and we're going to be making more of this stuff so i think the easiest way to start is this is like the office area part of it now the studio has way more to it where we shoot videos but any place where video does get shot will have carpet on the floor this happens to be a bunch of one foot by one foot interlocking tiles and it'll have foam in the ceiling so there's actually foam up there the white serrated foam glued up there so when there wasn't carpet and foam this was just like a concrete echo box now sounds pretty good so let's go around and say hi to everyone first of all this is the guard dog mac mac how you doing max max tuckered out from a long day of barking at the ups guy i'm sure but he's had a good time and he of course is one of our favorites um andrew's over here what's going on what's good what up let's have everybody i want to give like a a unique thing about everybody's death set up because everybody's got you know different things that they do and we'll talk about that but also give me like something cool about your setup here mini setup tour cool probably this uh headphone holder it's pretty bleeding edge state-of-the-art it's been going strong on it honestly like i could actually recommend this okay i recommend a lot of things um other than that this is basically i just uh i co-host the podcast and write for the podcast a lot so i spend a lot of time on here researching what we want to talk about and then other than that i'm just usually on discord shout out to our discord channel um banning people on honestly so this is the this is the discord banning machine machine 96 gigs of ram straight for banning i can't tell you how glad i am you didn't mention that this was one of your favorite this is like one of a kind you can't find this on ltt this is it is it is what it is it's just a floating sandal we can ignore it um i do want to mention there's a bunch of cool furniture in here too this is probably one of my favorites it's literally a whiteboard desk okay so fully makes this it's just literally a dry erase board but it's super useful because we can just jot down ideas construct shot ideas in our head i'm bad at drawing but i really try so i'm super grateful to have this and it's motorized so it just moves up to standing height if we want it to be or down to sitting height if we ever want that now this is behind the scenes channel you're going to see a lot of hanging out with the team in the studio so we've made this embargo box where if there's ever anything secret that's going on or being shot or tested that we can't show you well i can't show it to you it's got to stay in this box so that will live here for now not to tease you too much but that's pretty important that we follow the rules but let's move on to the other side here we do have a tv in between andrew and i's desks sometimes we'll airplay videos up there to preview them with the whole team before we go up live on youtube but this is my desk here this is um i don't know let me know in the comments if you want like a more more detailed thorough desk tour but this is where i edit this is where i get random face times from numbers i don't recognize this is pro displays this is a mac pro down here and this is a massive thin motorized standing desk by xdesk the thing about cable management is if you have a desk that motorizes up and down you have to cable manage for both standing and sitting which is hard so you can kind of ignore i said i said you can kind of ignore my cable management setup it's great um but the one thing i'll say that i like about my desk a lot right now is uh is the keeptron k2 i've gotten really into mechanical keyboards kikron it's kikron isn't it but this is a it's a wired mechanical keyboard and listen to it's good it's good stuff i really like this so that's where i sit all the time oh and uh quick shout out to the chair the herman miller embody and the monitors yamaha hs8s that i think i've had both for 10 years now so i can i can give my stamp of approval my thumbs up to those but we got vin's desk over here what's up then hey i'm the art director here mine's a little tidier but about the same setup as everyone else's except i got the white hs5 flanking both sides i save a lot of files on this 48 terabyte pegasus that is a lot of hard drives a lot of air dropping um my favorite part of the desk is definitely the keyboard the bauer x teja types keyboard they're lubed mmm oh crisp it's crispy it's a nice area for me to just zone out and get a lot of work done i think i think it's safe to say you've had the cleanest desk here for a while probably probably the last year so this stormtrooper look it's got a lot going for it it's the white i think it's the white speakers that really do it for me but well done well done if we move over here we've got brandon's desk hello i'm brandon i am the creative director and uh my my keys are not lubed but uh i do have an artifox desk and um it's kind of standing height permanently standing height so that's why i have a pretty tall chair here too yeah that's like a stool basically it's it's pretty great it's like a bar stool it's fantastic um i'd say my favorite part about my desk is right over here um this gets made fun of a lot but basically one of my least favorite things is when i have to put in a mag or a c fast and then you like throw it in and all of a sudden everything moves up here i kind of adhered all of these to the top of my mac pro you glued it didn't you probably um you i'm getting made fun of anyways that's that's my one addition to my desk that i enjoy that everybody else does not it's great no i can appreciate that i just i just hold the mag reader and anyway uh we've got michael's desk over here what's good what's up i'm michael um usually in san francisco but i've been here for a couple of days mostly because of the studio tour um let's see i do animation stuff here um anytime you see any kind of animated intros or like graphics on screen over top of tech and stuff like that um this desk was completely blank when i got here two days ago and uh i like color so i tried to do my best found a few things in the studio um yeah the thing that uh people love to hate on magic mouse there it is going uh nine years strong on this baby this exact mouth i should ban this is brutal uh you know what i hate i love to love look he's a wizard with graphics all out the magic mouse but yeah i see you've got a bunch of layers here open i don't know if you did that to kind of show up a little a little bit oh yeah oh wow yeah there you go nice and labeled little preview of how the graphics intro you saw was made this man made it um beautiful stuff also i like the headphone holder copied andrew going strong great idea andrew patent that thing uh okay so we've got four we've got four uh desks here in the middle and these are pretty sweet now if you think about desks being in the middle of a room it's kind of cool but also where would the power come from right you're further from an outlet so our solution is we have power dropping in from the ceiling you do have to make friends with an electrician to make that happen but we luckily have done exactly that so it comes down here to these four desks these are all made by fully and they are part of their jarvis system right here they're all individually height adjustable they've got their little dividers in between but also it's a pretty open work environment as you can tell so shout out to fully for making this happen uh and this this is hyatt's desk here give me this i'll show you what hiatus got going on yeah so i'm the producer for this for this channel that you're watching right now um my desk is pretty pretty clean pretty barren i don't like to keep a lot of things on here but what i've got is a red komodo on standby for i don't really know what we haven't shot anything with this komodo yet but in case we do it's there yeah uh i've got the imac pro it does the job it's you know plenty of ram plenty of everything i need i've got uh the fellow carter i use pretty much every day to bring coffee to the office it's fantastic and then i've got these what is that you never know when you're gonna need to to feel like a glasshole again uh i don't know i feel like i know yeah i feel like i know it's it's good it's sometimes you just need it you just need the nostalgia so at the desk for whatever reason it's the desk setup that is a discontinued computer by the way the imac pro but uh i'll hand that back to you we've also got next to you here tim what's going on hey guys i'm tim so i'm the graphic designer here so i'll do things like the thumbnails or the channel graphics for the youtube twitter social stuff i also worked on like the new branding for the studio channel which you're watching it's beautiful in part with michael uh i think the there's a couple of things about my desk that are interesting i think i'm the only one in the studio uses the chin for writing notes oh true it might be the only analog note taker yeah potentially i think atom is an exception actually uh beside that i have my wacom intuos pro uh and i'll use this for like anything that needs to be like gestural so i can use the pen it's pressure sensitive it's pretty awesome inside the pen holder is actually all of these different nibs which is kind of nice some of them are spring loaded some of them are like hard tip soft tip and you can get different effects out of that in photoshop so um just kind of nice to have like variety when you need it so other than that it's pretty simple setup i got all my fun mkbhd little keys yeah little trinkets and chotsky's pen microfiber the uh little journal so it's very much it for me i just learned recently that these are called nibs like they're actually called nibs if you want to buy one you have to look up nibs to get one it's true it's pretty dope uh let's float over here to the other side we've got another pair of desks as you can already see david typing away furiously hello what's going on i'm always stepping away furiously hi i'm david uh i am writer researcher here at mpbc i write things i research things i make sure that we get facts correct so i'm always doing fact stuff like numbers and stuff over here um mostly i use the 364 gigabytes of ram and this mac pro to use google docs because most google applications will do that to you i would say the most unique part about my extremely clean probably cleanest in the studio actually desk setup is that i have this uh i have this uh what's this this is called an ipad pro that you basically use as a second monitor or at least i do um and i'm trying to run the beta of everything that we got going on right now so i got android 12 ios 15 windows 11 not mac os monterey yet because it's not stable enough to be run yet but i will get there eventually so um that's mostly what i do sometimes i research things and come under the podcast you'll see me on waveform every now and then um but that's uh that's most of my job here pretty sweet i kind of i like that this uh you can sort of pop the ipad out yes and bring that into a new room and anytime you want to pop it back in place yeah and you saw this you know to work my abs when i'm actually standing up so i can get those standard goals when i'm competing against marquez for which of us is most fit yeah it's a big deal uh hey i beat you once okay you did win you did all right i'll give you that really hard i'll give you that but last but not least we have uh adam's desk over here what's good what's up i'm adam i'm the podcast producer so i'm here editing the next episode that's going up make sure to subscribe to that channel the waveform channel and all the clips um i've been editing on the sony mdr mdr7506s but the best thing at this desk is definitely the sennheiser hd 820s which just sound beautiful but i use those just for listening to music when marquez isn't looking and then i have the only living plant in the studio gladys over here so she's doing very good today look at that yeah we do have babies i don't know a dozen fake plants but i'm glad there's a real plant this is this is pretty key brandon and vin steeler all the time for random shots so you might see her in some videos every now and then it's true it's true it's ended up in a couple videos but that that kind of is the office area right we do shoot a lot of video in other parts of studio which i'm about to show you but that's what's going on here so if you sort of look over my shoulder we've got like a center atrium type thing going on with rooms to either side so let me show you the rooms i'm going to start around the corner right here with this one so this i'll call the top down room now you've seen mkbhd videos presumably if you ended up here and you've seen um the top-down shops right where you're looking straight down at like sort of a surface maybe it's a desk or a table and part of the reason for having a studio like this is having enough space to be able to set things up a little more permanently so we used to have to build those top-down sets every time we wanted just one shot we'd have to set all the lights up and all the flags and the camera and the jib and everything and you can keep doing that but we found that we do so many of those types of shots that it made sense to have a space like this so this is a permanent setup for top downs i went over this in the gear video of course but you can see this camera lives here it never leaves it's on the jib we've got lenses specifically for it we've got this is maybe one of my favorite little easter egg things it literally is just to block reflections from the camera itself from showing up on glass and screens and things like that so good to have but over here we've got the tv which is hdmi connected to the monitor so it'll show up and we can adjust our top down set and break things and hopefully make it look good but over here is of course all the surfaces so that's what you'll look at when you see like the table made of yellow carbon fiber or wood or robot skin but also there's props and more props and things that sort of will look at home in a top-down set or whatever environment we're building so this entire room was built specifically to be able to do those quickly i don't know why i carpeted this room but i i did so i don't know it's a little easier to hear me i guess in there but that moves us right alongside it next door to this room which i will call set room and that's because we just shoot this is just for shooting videos right so literally we'll just build sets to shoot in here we'll shoot a-roll talking to the camera in here we'll also shoot all kinds of b-roll around this space it's got white walls you probably recognize some of the stuff out here we've got the lights the mic the tripod and all that but since we've gotten here this is a a room with windows and every room in this entire studio with windows will have one of these remotes one of these right here and that's a remote to move up and down the motorized blackout shades we have out here so we can move them up move them completely down it'll black out the room they come down in these channels right here no light leaks through and then you can shoot a video with whatever exact lighting we want we do have these overhead 5000k led lights which are dimmable but they're just kind of standard overhead lights so that's that's the set room it's pretty simple shoot videos but out here not so much videos getting shot so sort of a wreck area we've got a pool table who's winning by the way one two three one two three four tim stripes well done but we've got a couch out here we've got a we've got a record player we've got some random furniture just because this is a place to hang out in between shooting videos and stuff but on the other side of the wreck area what do we have here other than the robot room so mac of course helping to direct but yeah he's always on the on the remote over there but this is the robot room so pardon the terrible sounding audio because there is no carpet there is no foam in the ceiling we don't do any audio in here this is just for making those specialized robot shots so this is mia again you've seen mia in the gear video and i've talked about her but to simplify the camera here lives on the robot and andrew if you run the move this robot is capable of all kinds of extremely precise and often very fast moves that are very repeatable that a human could never a human literally could never there's also a fizz on it which is a focus iris and zoom control it's all motorized it's all talking to an xbox controller and an imac over here and uh this whole room is built around well usually the blackout shades being fully closed and us building all the lights and the setup around the shot and that's how you get those crazy shots you sometimes see in videos we try not to overuse it but trust me a six second video from the robot takes a lot longer than six seconds to make so that is uh part of our pride and joy shout out to andrew for the demo there but then this is the middle atrium it's not too crazy i mean it's just the the center part where it's a little more hanging out we do still have carpet and foam if you want to shoot videos out here sometimes we do but again this is a table for lunch table for poker we do have a relic from the studio upstairs which is the gear closet which includes the famed or maybe infamous phone drawer it evolves a little bit every year but those are probably the last three years of phones from every manufacturer so we got to keep those around um but yeah this is just sort of a an area to keep stuff hang out walk through there's a desk here now oh something i want to mention over here on this side of the wall there's a little bit of splash of color and that's because behind this tv if you actually come over and look this wall is wrapped it's literally wrapped and it's wrapped by these same humans that wrapped my car and that's because thanks to 3m we've got a pretty sweet design going on and they came in here and wrapped the wall from left to right from floor to ceiling and now we've got this little this like accent wall that i think is like a really nice touch not obviously for the studio space but also let's get on video too so shout out to 3m and that sort of ends like the middle atrium now you're probably wondering why there's a like a makeshift curtain coming down from the ceiling here um it's made of sound blankets and you'll understand why if you just pop over here real quick where it sounds way worse because of this this box over my head which is an hvac we are a studio uh space but we're inside of a larger building so this hvac services like more of the rest of the building so we can't turn it off we can't really control it but we've just sort of used this back space area um to hang out and this is where you can eat lunch this is where you can you've got a little kitchenette we can do a little gaming this is a gaming station so if you happen to want to play forza in 8k well here's an lg 8k oled and a 30 90 and a main gear pc so that's one great way to burn some time so definitely you'll find people out here in the studio that's the type of thing you'll see on the studio channels people just hanging out what's that you're you're pointing me over here for some reason like you haven't seen this before it's a it's a cardboard cutout this is shen it's one of our friends from htc who sent the cardboard crowd to the studio since he couldn't be here for a podcast he just kind of sits over here sometimes he guards the parking spaces and sometimes he just scares people who aren't thinking and forget that he's over here but yeah this huge herman miller table has a lot of storage inside because i feel like i'm a i'm a clean services type of guy i really like when surfaces are clear so anytime we can keep like paper towels and screwdrivers and batteries and random stuff off of surfaces we will so that's uh another tv over here in the corner and then this is a little kitchenette i mean this obviously there's a group of people who are here all day so i want to make some lunch we've got a refrigerator um might be a little bit of a theme to our refrigerator right now but uh nothing too crazy i guess ah we've got more windows back here and uh high-tech toaster shout out to the june oven big fan but yeah that's not that's not like that exciting so i'll probably breeze over the rest of this but it's not the best sounding space in the studio but we do have a couple more rooms so let's show those first of all back here you have set room number two this be the great wall room you can probably guess why i call it the gray wall room it's got gray walls pretty sweet oh yeah how's it going guys um yeah well we'll typically make sets in here the same way we make sets in the first set room you saw but of course having gray walls makes it easier to play with color obviously white walls are great but if you can shine a colorful light at a great wall it'll absorb the color a little bit more we've got some cool things about this room though i already showed you the remotes which will use these blackout shades and move those up and down but i've got a second remote here and it's an aperture remote if i hit this remote boom uh this is our top-down lighting grid that we've built and it looks a lot better than the built-in lights in this room so this is a set of nine aperture 300d mark iis and again made friends with the electrician so there's power up in the ceiling there we cable managed all of this we've bolted and clamped everything up here to make it set but now we've got this nice sort of top-down lighting look you can dim this a little bit so it's not too bright we use it for a-roll we use it for shooting b-roll it was inspired by a room in apple park where uh it was literally just a room i was in that was just a top-down softbox light which is cool we couldn't build exactly that but we have white foam in the ceiling so we've got this kind of look going on so that's that's basically this second set room again it's got carpet on the floor because we shoot audio in here and we've got the foam in the ceiling as you already know but i'll pop that light off and we'll move to the last but certainly not least most important room which would be the waveform podcast studio i'll just go ahead and open that door right here and that is adam at the board as we usually find him mac guarding the door as we usually find him and of course we got andrew over here as we are usually co-hosting the waveform podcast which you might have seen by now but if you haven't you should definitely subscribe to the youtube channel for it how's it going mac um this i would say is the best sounding room in the entire studio so it's like the smallest footprint so it should be the easiest to make it like sound great but we've got carpet on the floor we've got soft things like pets then we've got base traps in the corners then we've got uh we've got the carp the foam in the ceiling also and we've got these like little floating clouds over the lights and we've got an entire acoustic wall which looks phenomenal on the waveform podcast channel so uh i don't know if you've ever shown what cameras we use for the podcast so these are the canon 300 canon c300s i'm sort of like trying to remember everything to say as we walk through this here but we've got a simple lighting setup and that is the waveform podcast studio so one of my favorite rooms i would say nice huge light look at how size of that light it's crazy anyway we'll probably move on but thank you again to adam and andrew for a little demo now if i come out here again we're in the not so great sounding area but we're into the last home stretch of rooms the last of which i think is my favorite but we'll get to it um now if you if you don't work here you don't care about this at all but we have a bathroom here um there's only two bathrooms in the entire back half of this building one right here for us and one for everybody else so having a private bathroom was pretty clutch i'm glad i pulled that off good boss marquez good job marquez uh and then this back here is well it's a storage room which is not very exciting but it is so good for me to have because like i said i really appreciate tidy spaces and clean surfaces and in the old space it was just a big rectangle so if we had storage we kind of just pushed boxes in the corner now we have a little nook we can hide stuff in so shipping boxes whether it's travel gear you know backpacks and storage and ladders and things like that all that can be in the storage room and then just out of sight out of mind it's great so that's always good to have and i'm super happy about that and of course hvac noises you gotta love them but that brings us to like the last couple smaller rooms that i think are really cool so this is the gaming room pretty self-explanatory we have a room dedicated for testing games for shooting gaming related content and for streaming so this is the gaming pc by main gear which we've had for a little while still a beast and this is an ultra wide that will shoot on and obviously i reviewed the consoles in here but this is the gaming room and of course since we shoot video in here say it with me carpet on the floor check foam in the ceiling check so we will use that to shoot that sort of video stuff in there and then i'll come around here to actually another like super cool room to have if you've if you've had a closet like this before this is kind of just like a gear prop closet prop room so i'll turn the light on real quick this is like a this is like a more active storage area so things that we know will need to have in videos at some point um a lot of them a little more quickly than like maybe long-term storage so like all of our earbuds are in here all of our gadgets from like the last couple years live down here and anytime we like know we need something for a video whether it's a prop or just a light or just something blue or something from the 90s like we'll keep stuff in here that we know we'll need for a video and then we can run over here and grab it when we get when we know we need it so this is the uh the prop room i guess i'll call it if i'm naming rooms might as well just name it which brings us to the last room the finale i think is my favorite because this used to be a closet again but now it is the camera room it's a fairly industrial room doesn't sound that great but it's my favorite because well this is where the gear lives so you've got the cinema cameras down here your mirrorless cameras over here and some sandbags and stuff but then of course all the glass up here canon lenses mirrorless micro four thirds lenses over here all your polarizers and nds but this is the only organization that actually matters this is the battery station uh and the only reason organization matters is because batteries get charged down here once they're fully charged 100 they live up here that's the only rule so if you have a battery that's up here at the top you can grab it it'll be 100 you can go like that's the only thing i care about and if it's not charged it's down here charging but you know this is where you can build a rig for a camera that you can go out and use to shoot so tripods and grip stuff microphones top handles monitors adapters things like that they all kind of live in here and put a rig together and go shoot but that's kind of it i think that's the whole thing that's the whole studio i walked you through and that's the type of stuff you're gonna see here on the studio channel it's the behind the scenes you've met the team now you've seen the space you've seen the gear shout out to everybody who's you know i guess they're playing pool but all in the same area but this is this is a lot of fun and i think if you're if you're down to see more exciting stuff like this but especially behind the scenes of the videos and how they're made this is the place to subscribe also i saw you hit the like button so i appreciate that too good looks um if you want to hit down to that comment section this is the place to let us know what other type of stuff you want to see we've got some ideas already as you can probably already imagine but that's where you can leave your feedback and we can say one last goodbye to mac who loves making sure nobody uninvited comes in the studio door we appreciate that mac you deserve all the love thanks for watching the studio tour we'll catch you guys in the next one peace
