Mitre Peak: Summiting New Zealand’s Most Iconic Mountain in a Day

what's up guys we just climbed to the summit of mitre peak and milford sound we're at 1692 meters we cracked across from Milford the tiny Township you can see at the far end and then it hiked for six and a half mildly death defying super exciting though [Music] [Music] seven times and going ashore in sin but golly slender the shores of Sinbad Katya and about to climb up my to peak times and taking our time getting a samurai spray on alright I don't have read either this is Joe this is Jarrett one of our local care guys [Music] so we just got halfway off the first hill and now we can see to cruise boats and fuel six hours from now we're gonna have to go up 200 meters and then back down to it's gonna be pretty rough [Music] pretty depressing but then we get to go up again so we just got over the first little hurdle and check it out my tapping away the fudge in the clouds also yeah I'm in the tree climb Katrina take a fake blood life oh you see the ashram four devices you need to know that staying hydrated we each brought about four liters of water because clearly there is going to be zero we are totally if you can hear planes every two seconds forgives milford sounds and actually the busiest domestic airport news them also right about now i think i should have been one of those girls who makes a makeup tutorials and is always clean than sweating from her belly button and covered in mud I was sweating so much you can see I'm sweating my shirt isn't are these sweaters don't even see where the sweat is I love these two wearing a headlamp [Music] canceiied not the way camping for the record that's just where we're having lunch around five minutes so that I go dude I was there [Music] this is a cat's eye yep couple of flat pieces Oh cheekbones beam sorry we came up the ridgeline up down up down bye-bye yeah we almost have to wear plans out of it again haha I got that on camera bro takes in the cloud right we can't see it a false summit what stop firing then I'm behind you two miles up are at the top we'll be kayaking home in the dark this next bit looks like a sheer cliff with a knife in trich sure we got this hold on to something Wow actually yeah don't judge me it's God it is so rad up here check it out hope you can see bad that is oblivion you know we just came up that yeah it's like actual cliff we totally got this no afraid of heights just afraid of death [Music] couldn't have chosen a better team thing is this GoPro just doesn't show how steep is this this is like almost vertical and it looks like you just going down a little hill [Music] that's the same way as Sun hi Bella and I think you see Oh chick that sickest either coming off the back of my to fake and that beautiful beautiful valley as simbad gully homosphere the Blue Duck see look at me night you got him the crap out of this [Music] interview [Music] now you have to get straight down there [Music] but hey this is so freaking epic so it's almost vertical down here when we get to the bottom here we go right around this little cliff here and then we'll be six tagging our way up there's one area that's a bit exposed are we going over drop or you have like ten centimeters good ten centimeters are rocks yeah like going out like a step-over drop we have a 6 hanging our way up when we get past up there have a grass area there we get to rock which other hold for it and we go to the north side of the mountain instead of being on the south side and what if we do don't die how you feeling Jay weed challenged challenged man we totally got this this so DP I asked it's just trying to figure out the best rate of this essentially cheer cliff face good we got on that way sick ready good Jared we just climbed up the most epic section I really should have found but nobody wanted to die by holding the camera actually so insane [Music] [Music] [Music] hey danger living the dream 240 meters it's so far from the fall summit Tori now 75 meters or something like that and then we will start on the last ascent up towards my to peak just having a little break here catching our breath yeah we're getting really close hey have another rock hopper here joining us fun fact because they live up in the mountains and I mainly stay on ground jumping around the rocks they don't have really back feathers tail for this so look like a tennis ball [Music] to 40 meters away from pig I'm really sighs pretty hungry pretty tired though is it boss it doesn't look try though how you feeling Jared okay oh yeah that stinks well this smells really bad [Music] [Music] my peak good luck nachos and we never tasted quite as good as they do on the summit of New Zealand's most iconic mountain also another fun fact that's apparently New Zealand's most photographed dude we had over a hundred thousand visitors to Milford Sound in December and as you can see we don't really have the infrastructure to support that kind of tourism so definitely growing places away [Music] all righty home time boys five and we probably won't be down until just after 9:00 so still hike that whole ridge line there also there's what's called a day breeze at the moment so the wind kind of picked up in Milford Sound we've got Whitecaps on the field at the moment so we're a bit gnarly - Chi Chi Minh so yeah hopefully that has died down by the time we get back to the bottom anyway super naked try not to be pretty tired in case you were wondering we still in the bush spot we're like 20 meters from the trash yeah it's just a pound of I just have to kayak all the way back but they're gonna be about 300,000 sand flies in a minute so I'm filming - I made it yeah already coming oh we made edges and look it's still light well that actually looks really cool so yeah now we just need a conical way the back over that way we got this we got this [Music] yeah hey chillin in the front seat he was checking us out like so close I can almost taste it [Music] [Music]
