[Applause] [Music] rainy texas stadium the home of the dallas cowboys has today on this thanksgiving day they entertain the minnesota vikings rolling high i'm pat summerhall here with john madden and for the last 20 years we've been able to say happy thanksgiving to you and happy thanksgiving to you and happy thanksgiving to you and 20 great years and we have it all again today we have turkey legs we have turkey we have turducken and we have the biggest thing the the tradition of thanksgiving and football some things just go together greatly they sure do john we have a team that's been a surprise to everybody this year i think the minnesota vikings they have a lot of firepower i think and i don't think anyone expected the minnesota vikings to be in this position and how about the player if you said who's the biggest surprise player in the nfl today it has to be dante culpepper and that's what they have i mean they have dante culpa for really for all intent and purposes he's a rookie i mean last year he didn't play at all he just ran the scout squad but he has a pretty good arsenal around it you know you have to realize that that they're the number one team in rush offense in the league and robert smith is having a great year and then you say okay you got that big offensive line you're going to hand the ball to robert smith he can do damage you start to come up you have to help on the run then you remember that outside they have randy moss on one side and they have chris carter on the other side those are a lot of weapons now you say well where are they weak do the vikings have any weakness and if they do have a weakness it's their defense john the dallas cowboys have lost seven starters due to injury since the first of the year last week just four days ago in fact they got overwhelmed in baltimore what are their realistic chances today of not getting overwhelmed i don't think they're great today but what they have to do is they they still have a pretty good offensive line they still have emmett smith and they have to get him the ball and they have to establish that get some first downs move the change keep the ball away from the vikings having said that i still don't think that's enough because he was talking to chris carter the other day and he said there's only one way that the dallas cowboys can beat us and that's if we beat ourselves with turnovers and i believe that i think the cowboys have to get turnovers they have to get trick plays on special teams those types of things if they're going to be in this game because they are overmatched coming up the vikings and cowboys fight for the coveted turkey leg awards john and i will be back there's only one thing that's going to stop and fill my [Music] welcome back to a rainy day in dallas texas everybody now if the rain continues to be as bad as it is right now a dry football will be a very big factor in today's game and each nfl game has started off with 36 footballs 12 regular balls 24 regular ball excuse me and 12 kicking balls split right down the middle for 18 per half now the ball should be changed after each and every play unless the team is in a two-minute situation or hurry up offense now dante culver said a wet ball should not affect him whatsoever now it's long been rumored that troy aikman does not throw a wet football very well although you can't tell that to the cincinnati bengals where two weeks ago he threw for 308 yards in the rain back up to you pat and john all right that's dj johnson down on the sideline as he will be throughout the afternoon mitch berger set to kick it off to jason tucker and kareem larimore minnesota's won the last three times these two teams have played [Music] but traditional thanksgiving day at irving texas and texas stadium this will be jason tucker at about the 11. and tucker is taken down at about the 28th here is the cowboys offense the line lozell adams larry allen ben fricke in place of stephanoski solomon page and eric williams those who will handle the ball jason tucker emmett smith robert thomas david lefleur the tight end and james mcknight their most dependable wide receiver quarterback by troy aikman who holds 47 dallas cowboys passing record but this has been a tough year for the cowboys and for troy [Applause] emmett smith to the 30 maybe 31 you could see perhaps the moisture splash out of the turf viking defensive front four to lance sawyer tony williams chris hovan and john randall now playing left in three very mobile linebackers mcdaniel wong in the middle and dwayne rudd and the secondary robert kate and kenny wright to cornerbacks carter and robert griffin the leader of the secondary second and eighth smith again to the line of scrimmage that's about it chris hovan made the stop and the cowboys are trying to come out with that you know to kind of take control of the line of scrimmage and you can see that on the first two plays they haven't done that they've run two plays to the right and they've gained two or three yards and now they get in that that position that they're really not very good and that's third and long third and nine who likes third and nine well especially after you ran the ball two times and you end up third and nine there's something wrong there's aikman back to throw it steps up in the pocket fires across the middle complete dwayne mcgarrity first down yeah trey hickman looked pretty good there he's wiping his hands right now wayne mcgarrity is the third wide receiver he comes in and he plays the slot position and you see him against right here he makes a little move to the outside and then he comes back to the inside and just as he got that step on right troy aikman hits him perfectly now that ball does kind of slop out of there that's not it i was going to say he didn't look like he had any trouble throwing the ball but you know what his problem with the wet ball is he's so strong his hands are so strong and he grips the ball so tightly that it tends to slip out as it's going and when it does it wobbles the pass is complete the james mcknight from aikman you get that one on target as well another first down eric williams better watch out he's he and john randall are still going at it the play is here and it's a slant and if they lay off like that you can throw slants all day but watch this here's a good matchup here's john randall and eric williams they're back there and and the play was over and they were still rushing and blocking each other that was a perfect throw for makeman first and ten at the minnesota 39. opening seconds tucker goes in motion dropped to throw it drops it out to his tight end the floor another dallas first down down to the 25. yeah here's the play i was talking about pat watch these two guys this is this is thanksgiving day the play is over eric williams is what he's going to go back at him john randall said headbutt me that bought me here okay here's a headbutt and the play's not over no but that's what that's what offensive tackles and defensive ends do especially if they're a little goofy and those two guys are both a little goofy you know instead of you know shake hands pat them on the back and that stuff they say come on come on give me a headbutt three wide receivers set up mcgarrity in the slot again [Applause] no place to go [Applause] stop by kylie wong i think you wonder why they why they run i mean they're they got the pass protection down there's not a big rush on on troy aikman troy aikman looks very confident back in the pocket and his receivers are getting open so instead of waiting for third and long maybe now second one would be a good time to throw that eleven they got the long because you can do this you can't move the ball against the vikings smith outside from aikman to thomas the intended receiver yeah that was kenny wright was waiting right there for him too that was that cover too the minnesota vikings are using a lot of that cover too where the corners are up and both safeties are deep and as a receiver comes off the line that corner lets him go and then thomas the fullback ran right out into the area where kenny right the corner was aikman has him in and out quickly third and 11. jackie harris on the move here's a shuttle pass to chris warren breaks one tackle gets down inside the 20. almost the first down but not quite that's gonna have to be a field goal surprise the success they were having with their pass protection i'm surprised that he just didn't go back there and just throw one because now with that shovel pass they had that long yardage and even though warren made a nice run with it he wasn't anywhere close to getting a first down chris warren limping off [Music] the field goal attempt by cedar with a new holder this is cantrell the putter and kickoff man but cedar is right down the middle and how the cowboys break on top three nothing 37 yards out for cedar puts the cowboys on the board [Music] i had i played with some guys who had legs that looked like that oh bird legs baker yeah yeah look at that who was the first turkey leg winner i know the answer and i i remember the guy well uh so do i and he's still playing he's a lineman but a different team yeah yeah with a different team then he's going to be a hall of famer because he's one of the all-time great players barry cantrell back to kickoff to troy walters cantrell's kick sails down to moe williams and moe williams is on the return and gets outside to 20 about the 23 where the vikings will start with dante culpepper as john said the surprise of this year [Music] tomorrow that's number 41 kareem larimore right here he dodged a bullet there by that is a face mask he just got him and spun him all the way around and usually the officials see that because it's right out in the open field he got away with it first and ten minnesota operates in their own 24 robert smith breaks into the secondary and gets the minnesota first down let's look at their offensive unit up front big offensive line stucy lucina burke dixon and stringer randy moss and chris carter are the wide receivers johnny mc williams starting at tight end smith and morrow are the two running backs the vikings i was gonna say the vikings started out right where the ravens left off last week yeah they did cultivar asked by randy moss at midfield surges into dallas territory let's look at the cowboy defense that's been pieced together ellis brandon noble michael myers and alonso spellman coakley wortham and hambrick the linebackers and the secondary mcneil and sparks the corners isaiah reese and greg myers the two safeties both the starting safeties for dallas gone to injury chris randy moss right on the sideline that's two in a row to moss that played before was the inside randy moss is in his third year remember in his first couple years they didn't run a much inside they just ran him inside to play before and then they run him right on the sideline felipe sparks has so much respect for randy moss is going deep that he gives him you catch a ball in front of him and when he starts to come up boom you go deep on him he deserves that respect somebody moved at least according to greg ellis as he pointed [Applause] down to the viking interior line false start yep offense number 73 five yard penalty remains first down stucy the turkey leg award that we were talking about the first winner was reggie white reggie white and as you said that was a couple teams ago because that was when reggie was with the philadelphia eagle later of course went to the green bay packers and now with the carolina panthers this guy is dangerous look at that graphic there that's not good here's robert smith he surges ahead across the 35 to about the 33. see that's a bind that the vikings put you in if you if you want to lay off and you want to double team randy moss or chris carter then you have a weakness inside if you say okay we got to stop the run let's pile up on it and randy moss and chris carter have their way with him dallas leading three nothing second and [Music] [Applause] nine [Applause] smith hit behind the line of scrimmage by alonso spellman first step through for a loss you know what they did on that one they brought greg myers he's a strong safety and you're going to see him sneak up now they're going to run to this side now they're going to come on a blitz because they they've been having trouble on that side now they just what's it now by blitzing the safety then that lets spellman come to the inside see spellman can come inside because he has meyers coming in on a blitz coming outside and they blitz right into the hole with the minnesota vikings were running third and nine pepper drops to throw it and down he goes the rush by ebenezer that was a great rush by ekubon that's what you call a a power rush a full rush watch him right here he's just going to get in into his guy todd stucy there you see right there and boom so he started he got him turned and when he got stucy turned he just pushed him and he was right on culpepper ducey slipped or was knocked down by ichiban he was knocked into a slip by echo this guy's jumping all over the place turkey day who cares lag on the play that was pretty good defense though you know it was all set up by that that second down blip when they blitzed against the run right right into the hole they were running illegal snap offense in the center five yard penalty remains fourth down mitch palmer does this snapping rain is coming down harder and harder and it's supposed to get even harder yet and this is it's a big hole in the roof when it's raining this is the toughest thing to play in you know i think that rain if you can keep the balls bright the football's dry it's okay if you can't keep the footballs bright it gets to be very difficult to throw the ball you think rain or wind is worse [Music] i think if the balls are wet rain is worse if the balls are dry wind is worse right the cowboys hold and lead the vikings three to nothing we're in the first quarter honey happy thanksgiving back at texas stadium where the cowboys lead the vikings three nothing in the first quarter pat sumrall with john madden and doesn't enjoy a wet football he's not going to enjoy this [Applause] well he's going to drop and throw it as time complete to jason tucker i think he's throwing it pretty well though he only has one incompletion doesn't it right must be like something like seven seven out of eight or something watch his grip here you can see that one of the problems he has is is that his grip he has his hand behind the ball you see it's not towards the front of the ball or even in the middle of the ball right most of and he squeezes it real tight well you could tell from the pressure from his fingers how how hard he's holding him how tightly he's holding him but he's throwing it pretty well [Applause] no backs this time and aikman throws complete to jackie harris you know we talk about aikman and his dislike for a wet ball last year he was in our fox studios in los angeles and had this to say i don't use much of la you had an unorthodox group as you just mentioned and most most quarterbacks will hold it with the laces fingers on the laces you know i tend to only put one finger on the lace and that that this one down in here so i hold it started with that that's it was uh that's why i picked it up it was comfortable and that's why i really struggle with the wet football or with the brand new football emmett smith is backing off to the races emma to the 40 to the 30 to the 25 still on his feet emmitt smith to the eight yard line kenny wright finally dragged him down that was a heck of a run by emmett smith he's going to start you're going to see him here and he starts to the left he starts with a lead to the left and watch him here cut back he makes a great move there and kylie wong and then he just outruns everyone and then finally right from this side is going to come and catch up with him finally dragged him down at the eight right there you see ed mcdaniel right there he overruns him gets by him first and goal cowboys at the eighth chris warren maybe lost one yeah but it's all it's all in his feet and i mean just watch how how emmitt smith has great feet one day a running back you never want to stop your feet moving and then if you can take them and you can make a lot of water come out of it when you make that cut that means it's a sharp cut but when you can take your feet and keep them moving all the time and then alternate from going straight to going perpendicular to going left to go and right you're something special i think he's got great feet and great vision now that certainly helped he sees everything here's aikman back to throw it chase and throws it away incomplete john randall close to aikman when he let it go yeah that's going to be we talked about that match-up over there eric williams john randall that's going to be one all day i mean here's john randall here we remember him as a tackle but now they have him out there at that left end and you wouldn't expect that it looked like something happened eric williams yeah he just gave him a bull rush and he just came up underneath him and eric williams let him go like he didn't expect him to go inside like that yes eric williams has to do a better job than that looks like something locked up on the middle and him intended for the floor broken up by kylie wong and here comes cedar again for another dallas field goal attempt eric williams comes back this time he's not gonna let it happen again he gives him one big head but then he gives them another big head button because kroy aikman's looking for his big tight end cedar hit from 37 yards away through that window the floor usually when they throw to a tight end down in this area this year it's been jackie harris this attempt from 26 yards can trail the holder and the field goal is no good wide left [Music] by the black decker rtx the rotary tool with absolute power by psinet the internet super care and by radio shack you've got questions we've got answers down with emmett four times he's won the turkey leg award yeah all the all the turkey you know most turkeys come from minnesota or north carolina in minnesota and carolina those turkeys really don't like emmitt smith maybe we ought to ask for a recount [Applause] he's the leader right now oh pepper gives to smith and smith is chased down from the opposite side greg ellis back on that field goal excuse me john yeah i was just looking at that i mean dale hellistra is a snapper and you know that's like passing the ball it looks like one of troy aikman's passes but it's pretty good i mean it's right there the hold is good there's no slip or anything cedar just pulls it doesn't he he starts on the right hash mark and carries it all the way outside the about it he left right out of his cap i think he had a small cap on there i think he reached in the box and grabbed small culpepper back to throw and batted down by alonso spellman you see the wings of alonzo spellman's arms i was looking at him yesterday in practice i was walking by and and i mean that that span from there to there is so big that he can he can knock down any passers pass if if he gets in that lane i mean he gets that that wingspan up there and that spread up there and that's what they do that first of all they try and take away a passing lane take it away with your body and then the rest of it with your hands and arms and alonzo spelman's arms are so long and so strong that he can take away a lot of passing lane he could block it out going through the hole in the roof here is culpepper back to throw and again i think that ball was deflected way up at the line of scrimmage it's incomplete in any case and then it was deflected down here right in front of randy moss and it came very very close to being an interception that win almost picked it off you're going to see the deflection and then and then it gets deflected and then it comes right back here i think it was deflected the line of scrimmage yeah i think so too it went through that wind yeah so burger is back to punk and he's got some room and when he's got room he can really put a leg into it [Music] mcgarity deep for [Applause] drive dallas not his best this is mcgarrity slips past one gets to the 42. [Applause] the cowboys leave minnesota three to nothing 208 left in the first it kind of looks like a bird it's kind of round some turkeys have wings feathers kind of like a peacock circus i have 12 legs um it has a wobble on its head should i describe the inside now i'd like to hear the description of the inside i like that kid who said turkeys have 12 legs i think you know i mean he just missed it by twice some of them have wings [Applause] the one girl's down the sideline gets a cowboy first down into minnesota territory john randall chased him down if they still have that now watch number 73 right there larry allen he's going to lead out there emmett smith just runs off of him and that's not a bad thing you're going to go in there in that draw you run right behind larry allen and if you're going to go out there and you're going to run to the outside just get right behind him because whoever comes up to the outside he is going to knock out and you can run inside him like he may knock him out in more ways than once on first down smith gets the carry again and into the secondary again robert griffith the safety man made the stop that's just what i'm saying either run behind larry allen when he pulls or you can run right behind him straight ahead now watch larry allen here watch what he does at the contact i mean this guy goes right in here when he hits him boom i mean he hits him now there's the hole larry allen on the initial contact made that hole for emmitt smith chris warren gives him an arrest now so he's the deep back thomas in front of him and he's got a cowboy first down i believe he's very close you see larry allen again they pulled him to the left they went straight now they're going to pull him to the right now chris warren is going to get right behind him but watch larry allen and he's going to turn get his shoulders square look at that contact here and when he gets a contact that guy goes straight up and then he starts to go back stumbling backwards time running out in the first quarter that's that's three straight plays that they went behind larry allen pulling to the left straight at and pulling to the right probably not have any more plays in this quarter in fact that's the end of the first quarter with the score the cowboys three the vikings nothing fox nfl sunday from dallas will continue after these messages [Music] okay [Applause] there's a moment ago larry allen 73. yeah what's the hit on kylie wong i mean i mean that's like a punch in a heavyweight fight he knocked kylie wong right out of the screen he just disappeared see most of their yardage has been to the left because that was that long one ramit smith emmitt smith has carried the ball six times already for 73 yards aikman on the quarterback snake got the first down he doesn't like to do that but you see you have to feel where the soft spot is and you just see that the quarterback looks up there and he looks as a soft spot just straight ahead to the right or to the left and you can see that the soft spot was to the left and if you look at troy inkman down there in the ground grimacing he looked like he was in pain he didn't look like he found a very good soft spot no he didn't well he is in pain you know i mean i mean he has that back and that that back isn't going to heal until he quits playing football no backs the empty setup they pick it up pretty well and the pass is incomplete and here comes the flag mcgarrity got up motioning robert tate on the coverage under tate he's the starting cornerback just a couple years ago was a wide receiver middle of the season the vikings moved him from wide receiver to cornerback and now he's starting oh offsetting here face mask violation against the cowboys and defensive holding i think defense number 28 personal foul grabbing the face mask pulling a player to the ground offense number 79 by rule these penalties offset replay first down connie currently is the referee yeah he was at our dinner last night we had all the officials over for dinner now now here's one that there's one that they miss here look at under larry allen's facebook williams has his hands in his face but it was against eric williams on the other side and eric williams is probably one of the most penalized offensive linemen of football once you get that reputation they're looking for you so it was eric williams on offense and robert paine on defense smith behind larry allen and emmett inside the 30 and out of bounds look at texas stadium the cowboys surprisingly leading the vikings three nothing and on the move again and they're playing a lot better than the vikings are it's been a short week for both of these teams but it looks like it's been a shorter week for the vikings thus far movement on the left side of the cowboy line larry allen and flozell adams this will be against the cowboys offense number 76 five yard penalty remains second alley roselle adams move i was watching the the film of last week's game against the ravens and flozael adams was one of the guys that did play well you know they were really taken by that that defense of the of the baltimore ravens but flozael adams was playing against michael mccrary and he and he played him well michael mccrary didn't make a lot of plays and flozael adams had him most of the time lozell's one of those guys that they say he can be as good as he wants to be a lot of talent here's edmond drops it to emmett and emmett got away from a couple of tacklers and almost broke it see john randall came down there again just to make sure he was down and he was down by contact but again good pass protection for troy aikman you see that he has that clean pocket so he can step up he can step right or he can step left and he could look and and then he just waits for emmett smith to to pop open and gives him the ball underneath third down and looks to be about three that's one of the things that emmitt smith talked about this week wanting to be more involved in a passing game they used to be and then they got chris warren [Applause] outside intended for mcgarrity behind him and it's incomplete they want him to go and they have to they have to kick this one but i think that aikman would look like he got rid of that ball quickly maybe a little too quickly mcgarrity had to spin around here's cedar back in with cantrell holding maybe that was the old wet ball drill i remember years ago i never did it when i was coaching but i think when i was playing we used to have wet ball drill oh yeah yeah when you put a ball in a bucket and you took it out and you would practice playing with a wet ball i did it many times cedars kick this time is good from 43 yards all you got to do is move him back under joe amazon 2015. where makes the world taste better by sprint pcs the clear alternative to cellular and by sears the good life at a great price [Music] guaranteed i know the answer to that one too we got carried away one year and gave an owner a turkey leg this is interesting look at the minnesota vikings they have seven guys up here so they're in a form of an onside prevent even though this isn't an onside condition can falls kick pretty hard to set up a return from that lineup it won't be a good setup for third but it's going to be a good return yes it is troy walters brings it out to about the 44-yard line could i show you something in the sneaker well what they're doing is that's the viking sidelines and they're changing their shoes and you can see that you have different type of shoes you have some for artificial turf then you have another type of shoe for wet artificial turf and about six or seven of the vikings are down there in the bench right now changing into a different shoe this is wet artificial turf here's culpepper [Applause] picks up about four or five who's the only owner right there the owner of the minnesota vikings red mccomb that's a pretty good group they're still a good combination aren't they yes they are regina combs is one of the good owners in this league and second down has done a lot to help this team look at the ball control this is what the story is of this game so far robert smith hit right at the line of scrimmage and scramble around for about a half yard brandon noble and underwood made the stop yeah we talk about how big dante call pepper is and when you're a 260 pound quarterback at the end you're gonna run like a fullback but the key is there he runs over dexter coakley but he put his left shoulder down to do it one you don't want to do that too much and you never want to do it where you lead with your right shoulder third bell pepper throws complete and that's enough for a first down that was johnny mcwilliams [Applause] the reserve tied in for the vikings who's [Music] of john robinson the head coach at the university of nevada las vegas who is fighting for a bowl spot in only his second year he has turned the program around [Applause] he's a heck of a coach he's turned a lot of programs around first and ten minnesota at the dallas 45. smith around the corner and out of bounds shoved out by ryan mcneil [Applause] this week on fox nfl sunday howie visits the eagles who are preparing their for their first place showdown with the redskins plus terry sits down with raider tim brown and the eagles and redskins square off in a key battle for the nfc east supremacy or the saints take on the rams or other regional action it all starts at noon eastern nine pacific with america's favorite pregame show check your local listing will be in st louis yeah to see one of the other surprising themes in new orleans saints oh pepper down he goes the cowboy sideline demetrius underwood was there and they're gonna mark it back yeah they could have got him for throwing the ball away but what they're saying what they're saying is that he was down that's what they're doing to randy marsh you wonder why he doesn't get the ball they're doing a good job of covering them one they want to be aggressive that's felipe sparks hitting up with the line of scrimmage then leading him into his safety demetrius underwood makes a good pass rush there that could have been thrown the ball away but the referee blew his whistle and called dante culpepper down before the ball came out it's second and 16. mcwilliams comes in motion flag on the play it might have been alonzo fellman who jumped in across the line too soon that's chris carter's first catch of the day and that had to be a free play for dante culpepper because it was alonzo spellman jumping offsides usually when they do that they they they stop it but i guess the referee didn't see it the line judge called it because of you that's the unabated to the quarterback defense number 90. five yard penalty repeat second down and that was alonzo spellman you'll see right here in fact he looks like he's lined up in the neutral zone and then see he takes off before the ball snapped and again usually the referee sees that blows his whistle and calls unabated to the quarterback the referee didn't see it because he didn't make that call corey stringer was still in his stance when alonzo spellman went flying by that's what unabated means second down here comes an all-out blitz and robert smith has hit behind the line of scrimmage by brandon novo and that's that's the thing where the cowboys are really having great mixture on their defense and that that's the thing that now you blitz to rush the passer and you also blitz to stop the run and you see this when they get in the gaps and they penetrate with the blitz there's no place to go on the play side nor is there a cutback brandon noble was right there waiting for the cutback because the blitz was away from the play side third and 11. culpepper back in the shotgun there's sean blitz again and here it comes carl pepper gets it out of there incomplete chris carter that was great myers greg myers was a safety who came into blitz and then dante call pepper was hit just as he throws this ball and you're gonna see chris carter again they're having trouble with their footing as he goes to make that cut he slipped and kind of got straightened up and then couldn't bend over again to catch it gary anderson the all-time leading scorer in professional football will try from 49 yards out closer to 50 really kicking a wet ball that far is pretty tough but he gets it there just barely over the crossbar from 49 yards out and it's 6-3 [Music] take all the juice and stuff out she gets a whole bunch of gravy and just puts it all in it put inside this machine it just turns around turns it around and when it like pops it means i'm done inside or something actually i think we put it in the microwave so it will at least be a little bit hot not very cold i never heard of cooking a turkey in an ice machine did you well i bought in a microwave so it just gets a little hot and not cold yeah that's one thing you don't want is a cold turkey wet here's here's this minnesota viking bench over here and and you can see the offensive players are now changing their shoes here's tucker with the kickoff out to the 40-yard line a flag on the play two flags as they fly all over the place and we saw earlier the minnesota viking defensive players were changing shoes and now now the offensive players are all on this bench down here to the left and they're all changing their shoes again you'll go from a turf shoe to a wet turf shoe holding two twice against the cowboys i guess well they'll pick one how they pick the one they pick i have no idea holding receiving team number 93 the penalty has declined holding receiving team number 54 10 yard penalty first down yeah i've never understood that how do they say no to the knight to the 54. they settled on the handbrake they're duncan we have one and we do this every sunday hey happy thanksgiving to everybody at home happy thanksgiving that's our audio gentlemen sending their greetings they didn't have the equipment working [Applause] seven different receivers for aikman emmett smith is the lone setback and he gets to carry and there goes emmett again about nine stopped by ed mcdaniel you know a week ago they said that emmitt smith and you know great running backs usually don't have back-to-back bad games so they thought that he was going to have a good game last week and again they were just they were just blown out by the ravens the cowboys were so hammett didn't have a real good game but i don't even think he ran the ball in the fourth quarter so now what we have is what we call a carryover so this really is you know the back to back to back and look what he's doing today eight yards on that carry [Applause] gets up to about the 35 before tony williams brings him down but it's a first down cowboys he's getting some running in there and some pretty good blocking by ben fricke you know they thought that was going to be one of the problems with mark stepnowski you know their fine center being hurt and then they have to play ben fricke in there but he's doing a pretty good job i mean i mean he gets his guy and kind of fights his guy and doesn't let him get there straightens his hat but again the the the power guys you know are larry out i mean that's that's where they get their power first and 10 6 40 left to play in the first half 6-3 the cowboys lead the pass is complete the james mcknight who took a wallop after he made the catch from kenny wright kenny wright is going to be the first guy and you're going to see the linebacker right there he comes out and gets him that's ed mcdaniel who really really lays it on him and that's what you have to do it's that second guy in on that slant kenny wright has it and ed mcdaniel kind of knocks him back to where he came from but an eight-yard pickup second and [Music] smith over two allen and he's got the cowboy first down up to about the 47 robert griffith made the stop you could kind of expect that couldn't you that if you need a short yardage and you and you need a run that you're just going to run it behind larry allen one way or another we've seen larry allen pull today and get in behind him and we've seen him like on that play just run right behind larry allen larry allen is huge yeah and you know he's an last week we saw a great offensive lineman and jonathan boy yeah how would it be if you had those two guys playing side by side i wouldn't show up now you'd be talking well they'd be on your side here's aikman the reverse to jason tucker and tucker's got some room around the corner slips as he got on the paint on the far side of the field gary allen tries to blow up his guys all the time and in doing so sometimes he'll swing and miss as he does there but you know it was it was still pretty effective it was swinging and missing kenny wright just ran right out of the play but he wants to hit those guys so hard and his excess blow him up that sometimes he does miss him and have to slide in the water second and six just across midfield you'll knock a lot of water out of the turf won't he yes he certainly will aikman's pass to tucker is incomplete behind him a bit america's fastest sport is now coming to fox starting in february 2001 fox sports and fx are the places to turn for every pit stop lap and checkered flag it all begins this february with the 43rd running of the great american race the daytona 500 fox sports and fx the new homes of nascar third and six earlier in the game he got an end to mcgarity on this same situation mcgarrett is in motion this time aikman drops here comes the blitz and he throws it away if he didn't throw it away there was a sack about to happen 8 out of 14 for 88 yards i don't think he expected dwayne rudd to know because usually duane rudd is one of the better cover linebackers in football and usually on a third down he covers a receiver and that time he came on a blitz and and he came unabated cantrell back to punt this is their first punt of the day troy walters is back deep this is a good punt walter signals fair catch and makes it at the 11. and minnesota with 4 22 left on the clock in the first half that far to go you know it's it's funny the vikings had the short week they only really practiced one day they did a walk through on monday they practiced on tuesday they did a walk through yesterday and then they flew in here to dallas and and they just look like they're not ready that's chad hennings who injured his neck had surgery on his neck and i don't know if his career is over or not it was an important part of the middle of that defensive line and they lost chad hennings and leon led in there here's smith looking for room and finding some chased down by fellman as he got past the 20. the thing the cowboys are doing today is they're blitzing a lot more they're using some of those zone dogs and you know and bringing the strong safety and doing those kinds of things that that they weren't doing earlier in the season they haven't been an aggressive defense this year i think because they wanted to protect their corners so they kept the safeties off and they didn't blitz and say i think they figured what the heck we're in a position where are we going anyway let's go after these guys and it's been pretty effective that's what dave campo told us yesterday we're going to go after him and the pass is incomplete through the hands of robert smith take a look at the defensive starter defensive starters now that the cowboys are missing chad hennings and leon lett and two tackles and the two safety men george teague and darren woodson woodson broke his arm against the ravens he'll be back in a couple of weeks teague's out for the rest of the year so is left darren whitson was a real warrior though last week he broke his arm they put a cast or a pad on it he came back and played the rest of the game with one arm third and one culpepper sneaks for the first and i imagine if he just falls forward he'll get the first although you know the the cowboys still weren't very good even when they had all those guys because we did their first game before they had any of the injuries against the philadelphia eagles here remember that game it was a pickle juice game and uh and the eagles just came in here and whipped them dew steel ran for over 200 yards on them and kind of blew them out and 41-14 and today with all those injuries they're playing a lot better than they did when they had all those guys measuring for the first down looks like he's got it you know one of the things that they probably were early in the season and maybe even in the middle they were probably too cautious and they're throwing a little caution to the wind because look at what people have done to over the biggest rushing days this season three of them deuce staley charlie garner and last week was jamal lewis have been against the dallas cowboys jamal lewis that they had left him in the game could have been over 200 as well oh yeah he'd still be gaining i mean you'd need a calculator to count them up here's culpepper steps away firing deep for moss and moss may have come up with it and they did catch it that's amazing they have three guys on them too because you always do that when the quarterback rolls away they always have randy moss go deep on the other side falling down to make this catch good look at this there's three cowboys there one short one on them and one deep although they're all kind of frozen and see he just waited for the ball more guys get close to the ball and and and don't do anything i mean they get caught up in randy moss and they let him just catch the ball more than any receiver in this league totally under control she would call pepper that was a heck of a throw because randy moss was on the left side of the field hopefully went out just right dallas and not only threw it that deep but he threw it all the way across the field that could change the complexion of everything so far yeah that was some chunk that was what randy moss used to say hey dog just chunk it deep and he always randy moss in fact dante culprit was telling us the other day is always open deep timeout dallas coming up on the visa halftime report jb terry howie and chris will have first half analysis highlights of the patriots lions game and then we'll be back here for a live performance featuring american music award nominee jessica simpson and country music phenomenon billy gilman it's all coming up at the hats yeah just watch his throw again here here we see copeland over here now watch him he's going to roll out to his right so he goes all the way to his right stops and then throws back now everyone is going to roll right when culpepper rolls right and when he does that they always put at the backside of his roll they always have randy moss go deep either an up or a post so it's viking first down at the cowboy 25. paul pepper back looking to throw again has all kinds of time fires complete to chris carter this time key word there he had all kinds of times throw the ball there was there was no way it didn't look like any of the cowboys rushers even got off the line of scrimmage and this is really a definition of all kinds of time to throw like this if you can if we can just go here and just stop it right here and look at this that is a definition of all kinds of time to throw yes it is [Music] this was giving and that's in our booth here pat and that's that's a turducken that's a six-legged traductan i'm going to cut it at halftime you cut it right down here this way take all the legs off then you cut it this way so then you have a slice you have turkey dressing duck dressing chicken dressing and i'm going to cut it i'm going to i'm going to go we'll have it at halftime have you got time at half oh yeah yeah just whack it right down the middle and a whack and sideways robert smith looking for the end zone he got there smith touchdown boy is he a combination of the things you have to have to be a great running back he has size he has power he has strength and he has speed and movement and he has a huge offensive line in front of him those are pretty good ingredients look at some of the moves that he's going to make down there i mean he's going to start off here on the left side he starts inside then he cuts back outside now he has a little patience you want to have patience to the hole then burst through the hole and then patience again to let your blockers get there now watch chris carter if there's going to be a big run a touchdown run by a back a long run there will be a block of a wide receiver chris carter is not only one of the top receivers in football but he's also one of the good blockers that wasn't a great block by chris carter but last week he had a great one the screen it was all smith needed as the vikings captured the lead 10 to six the cowboys have dominated but the vikings lead [Music] the visa halftime report jb terry howie and chris will have first half analysis highlights of the patriots lions game and then we'll be back here for a live performance featuring american music award nominee jessica simpson and country music phenomenon billy gilman that's all coming up at the halves they're gonna have to sing in the rain aren't they there's a song called singing in the ring i know i mean both of them are probably gonna have to be out there on the field singing in the rain i would think so they probably won't sing that song either hey you got the tune getting ready for the halftime this is always a big thing here in dallas on thanksgiving day the halftime yes anderson kicking off bounces it down that looks like david lefleur that's something he shouldn't be doing should he hey goodnight boys i think that you know they they've had control of the game and now they have to get back the vikings went down they scored and now the cowboys have a minute and 47 seconds here to answer that last score chris warren is behind aikman and he gets to carry and there is nothing there i see a helmet on the ground mcdaniel no heads in it number one draft choice rookie out of boston college who's doing a good job in there they they moved him in to the outside and then moved johnny randall to the outside as a left end and hovind as the tackle here's aikman back to throw outside to jackie harris who stumbles as a flag on the play eric williams already has has one or two of those penalties i wonder if this would be against him they're bringing it back [Applause] williams you can see eric williams here that his first shot is to get his hands up to the face and and you can see his first shot then then look at that second shot the first shot was hands to the face the second shot was just a slug to the face i mean he and he and johnny randall no they're in a battle out there oh yeah i mean randall has one of those big motors and eric williams knows it but there's no excuse for that he also knows the rules and as i say that rule was really put in for eric williams just an open-handed swat and the first one you know you get you know sometimes you aim for the shoulders and you hit a head i mean that that that will happen but i mean that second shot that was just that was just a punch to the face now that is not a dry ball i mean that not official in all due respect i love the officials we had dinner with them last night again but when you put a wet towel over a wet ball both of them stay wet eggman [Applause] [Music] taken out of bounds at about the 40-yard line by robert griffin and again right behind larry allen they run everything you know if it's emmitt smith would run it straight ahead yes i would and they pulled larry allen out on that to get and he got that block that kind of sprung mcgarrity but now they're in a third down situation they're going to have to throw the ball to pick up this first down you know you mentioned it forward before but ben fricke the backup center is doing a good job here's england james mcknight made the reception and they moved the chains and the cowboys still have time to time out so they can take a timeout right now which they do 10-6 vikings lead [Music] stadium happy thanksgiving again minnesota 10 dallas 6 31 seconds left before the half vikings just scored robert smith got it done the cowboys need about 10 more yards here to get into field goal position yeah the good field goal position drops no blitz as is caught by mcgarrity a good throw and a good catch and they still have one timeout i think aikman wants to spike this ball and save his time out for the field goal if he needs it probably and he does now see now he can get two plays he can he can get a plan by saving that timeout what that does is is he could still run an inside play this is a fine wet ball catch by mcgarrity right and he could run a pattern like this you see if he would have used his timeout then he couldn't throw the ball back inside the way he just did on that in there he would have to throw it either into the end zone or out to the sideline but by completing that pass going up and spiking that ball he saved one time out now any completion or short of a touchdown he can follow his final timeout for the field goal it's second and ten 14 seconds show on the clock and aikman drops to throw drops it over to chris warren who gets inside the 20. the ball came loose but he was down now aikman calls a timeout five seconds to go on the field goal unit comes on the field tim cedar who's made two out of three made the long one missed the short ones how about that one couple weeks ago where it was a field goal fake and they handed it to him and he ran right up the middle with it he scored he was a running back in high school and they aren't going to fake this one i'm not i'm not suggesting that this is a possibility of a fake i think i think this was a good drive i think the cowboys needed this drive to answer the vikings last possession and now a timeout's called by minnesota i imagine to give tim cedar a chance just to mull it over a little bit that's what you guys call icing they used to ice you guys didn't they they tried didn't they used to be able you know the the vikings have three time outs they used to be able to take like back to back time out now they can't do that anymore no they ever do that to you like like you're ready to kick a field goal and they call timeout then another one then another one yes yes the yankee stadium all right here's that fake field goal i was talking about the hands of the cedar now watch when he gets in the end zone he's still making [Music] he's moves excited with himself look at that hole there again even even the kicker runs behind larry allen yeah well kickers are not dumb it's either way some people say they are no no no no they're not done but they have a lot of uh eccentric behaviors you see him clasp in his hands and he's putting his head to his shoulders and all that stuff 36 yards out and cedar is good it's ten to nine as they head for the locker room a surprising performance i think you'd have to say by the dallas cowboys that's the end of the first half with the score of the vikings 10 the cowboys 9. fox nfl sunday will continue from dallas after these messages and a word from your local fox station and the the big thing is the time of possession here you see the vikings only added a little over 11 minutes and the cowboys had an 18. so i know that you know an offense is explosive as a vikings you say well why didn't they run more why didn't they pass more because they didn't get a lot of first downs they only got nine first downs and they didn't have the ball a lot so they didn't do a lot of anything and i think that the the cowboys surprised him a little especially with that uh with that blitzing especially with their defense they're going to do less if they can't see that's the final fog left over from the fireworks as barry cantrell kicks off to start the second half you see joe avazano got a new hat better look chris walsh returned the second half kickoff and right now let's send you down to dj johnson hey pat and john in the first half denny green said with conditions like this you would expect a stalemate like we've seen between the two between the two teams in the second half he said that they need to tackle better he said and on defense i mean on offense he said they have to establish the running game he said with conditions like this the receivers have a hard time cutting so they must run better and that's gonna be their plan for the second half expect more runs back up to you patton john expect more runs here's one of them and that's robert smith [Applause] he's a very patient runner he doesn't uh do things too quickly everybody stops and looks you have to have that combination you know a combination of patients then a burst you know you don't want to stay patient patient patient because there'll be 11 guys jump on you yeah you want to kind of have patience to the hole then you want to burst through the hole look at that that's why dj was coughing like that that stuff got caught up in there well now's a good time to sneak a receiver down the sideline i wouldn't see him that's left over from the halftime show the fireworks here's culpepper to smith and smith again patient he doesn't look like he's getting much but all of a sudden he's into your secondary and he's got a first down yeah and he's one of those guys that does that i mean you know he's a long strider and and you you know here's chris lewinsky watch number 78 he gets a block right there but robert smith is one of those guys that does that because he's a long strider he runs very fast but doesn't look like he's running fast he's fools people because of that you start to cut him off and you take a bad angle here's culpepper back with lots of time and finally dumps it over the middle incomplete that was darren hambrick the defender [Music] dante culpepper thinks that someone went someplace that they shouldn't have and the guy that he was talking to there is randy moss you know chris carter was talking you know in that pregame special where pam oliver was doing a thing on chris carter and he was saying that that what would he like to have out of football he said he would like to see randy moss and and dante culpepper be successful and say that somewhere in their life chris carter crossed their path and helped them out i think both of them could say that robert smith just slips him and gets into the secondary and down the sidelines is smith he i think stepped out of bounds inside the five at the four but i'll tell you that was some run i mean that was all the things that we talked about earlier where where he had a little patience then he had the long stride and the long stride equals the speed but he starts to the right here then he got the burst right there then he makes a move to the outside now watch these long strides right here i mean each stride takes about three yards i think he stepped out of bounds just before he went in about to where'd they put it about the five yard seven yard line again he's so deceptive that you think you've got the right angle and you haven't but where the speed is is a long stride and if you have a long stride and you take a lot of them you're going to be faster than most people you certainly are especially if you take them more often ten tonight i'm out minnesota [Applause] we even got a duck in there the ducks thought they were safe today he stepped out at the eighth and that's where the vikings have it first and goal and here's smith again stopped at the line of scrimmage you know it looked like he had a touchdown here but if you look right here you'll see on the eight yard line where his foot stepped out of bounds it was that close but it's a full foot i mean his full foot was out of bounds [Music] second and goal with about the seven and a half you wonder why when you play the cowboys you just don't kind of run every down yeah then you remember you've got chris carter randy moss and you got to keep him happy here's culpepper sitting back to throw in the end zone moss touchdown now there this one might be question i'll tell you he was double-teamed too i mean that's the confidence that randy moss has to catch it and the confidence that nothing call pepper has to throw it he was double covered he was on the back line and dante culpepper had plenty of time but you're going to see randy see the time to time and time now he's back here and you see that he has double coverage but it doesn't make any difference i mean he can jump and move and catch and do all those things beat double coverage and no challenge the extra point is look at those hands i mean he just has he just catches that with his fingertips now let's check out his feet now see he has the ball there he has possession one foot down left foot down he got both feet down he did no challenge at 17 9. minnesota 17 dallas nine happy thanksgiving one more time six plays a touchdown by moss from seven yards out from culpepper you know you no challenge no you see dave campbell there arguing with the officials you wonder if he tried to challenge that and and didn't get it you know because they have a buzzer that they buzz and if that doesn't work they have a red flag that they throw out it could be the buzzer didn't work on a day like today jason tucker on the return [Music] soups crackers sometimes i eat gravy with my turkey i have carrots for dessert sometimes peanut butter and jelly this stuff i don't remember what it's called it's yellow no it's not yellow it's red and it's like sort of like jello i forgot what it's called called cranberries i think it is cranberry [Applause] and you have to have the the yams and you have to have the mashed potatoes and gravy emmitt smith the ball carrier gets across the 30 to about the 32 stopped by kylie wong i wonder what a weather guy would call this where you you mix smoke from the halftime show with water i mean i mean like in chemistry you'd have to have something where you have water coming down from the skies and then mixing when it gets down here into the stadium with smoke well they have a like a hemature or something like that don't they those other people i mean h2o plus smo [Applause] kenny wright hit jason tucker i thought that was robert griffith because he's the guy in that viking secondary that hits that way but this is the the corner kenny wright i mean that is a form tackle that's the kind when you you start the first day of practice and you're teaching form tackling that's the way you teach them to tackle third and five you're right knocked a lot of water out of the turf on that one that cleared up the air here's eikman dropping quick pass over the middle to make it wayne mcgarrity who's close to a first down not sure he says it is you know it's interesting that dj johnson was saying denny green said it's tough to throw because it's hard to cut and we know that troy aikman doesn't like to throw a wet ball but he's throwing it pretty well i know so the combination of him throwing a wet ball and his guys having to cut on a wet track they're doing pretty well dave campo was informed today that he'll be back next year as the cowboys head coach i'm sure he's a little bit more at peace not that he was ever in danger here's him smith again lashes into the secondary the ball loose and emmitt grabs his head to lance sawyer comes up with it emmett grabbed his head on the way down when the ball flew out [Music] when he was right behind solomon page and we know that emmett smith always carries a ball in his left hand and then at the end of the play he wraps his right hand around it you see ed mcdaniel number 58 came in from the side and he wants 58 he's going to not only knock the ball out but he looks like he hits him head to head or maybe when he hits him in the head that knocks the ball out he sort of got sandwiched in between that was ed mcdaniel i mean he came and and put the the whack on him and talon sawyer was the only guy there to jump on it and emmett still down moving his arms that was quite a blow by ed mcdaniel and he had quite a run at it too i mean it wasn't run right at him he came across the field there was no give on the other side because he was sandwiched in between two vikings it wasn't right there in fact he did get say it was it was on one side and ed mcdaniel on the other side people take hostages all over the world there's emmett smith who's sitting up now so that's encouraging he grabbed his head after he was hit on the way down now he's up but he really got sandwiched between griffith and mcdaniel yeah robert griffith the strong safety was the first guy up there and he hit him with his shoulder ed mcdaniel came in from the side and it looked like helmet the helmet now watch robert griffith there with his shoulder he hits him here now that doesn't knock the ball out now watch right there right there and that's when the ball comes out after that and emmitt smith kind of goes down as you said he was grabbing his head or his face mask before he went down i think i think that shot there when ed mcdaniel hit him i think that knocked him out i think he did too i think he was out on the way down he was smiling just a second ago though and they're taking him i believe to the locker room yeah and you know and rightly so i mean he was as you say he was hit by robert griffith first and then it was that one when mcdaniel hit him that one knocked him out and then sawyer came up with the recovery the vikings trying to screen and the cowboys are all over michael myers smelled it coming you wonder why the the vikings even try and scream look you can just tell the way emmitt smith is walking there that uh you know he's been knocked out you would say gingerly i think wouldn't you well you would say not on a straight line yeah i would say uh yeah we'll have a report yeah they're taking them in now and that's going up the tunnel to the cowboy locker room second and 15. minnesota lost five here's robert smith he gets much of it back third quarter nine minutes ten seconds left to play minnesota 17 dallas nine that was a good block by the left guard corbin lucina it was a trap play you know where the left guard pulls across to the right you see the left guard he's going to pull across and trap here see right there's the trap and he just runs right by it i mean that's that's a pretty good call and a pretty good track play third and five culpepper in the shotgun moves chris carter a bit now drops to throw looking and throwing and complete to johnny mcwilliams and a viking first down i was watching dante culpepper in practice and watching on film and every time he gets in the shotgun he looks so comfortable and talked to him about that the other day and he said that that in his senior year in college he used a lot of shotgun and he said it really doesn't make any difference whether he's up under the center or in the shotgun he said it's where his lineman want him he said if the tackles ask him to be in a shotgun he lines up in a shotgun and again he had all kinds of time protection was great he's out all kinds of time most of the day hurry they just barely got it away called member throws pass caught by carter carter is out of bounds inside the dallas 20. chris carter you know we've been watching chris carter for for 14 years to play this game and it it just seems in fact saying the other day even to him that he looks younger and he looks better and he looks stronger and he looks faster than he's ever been i mean if a guy has a secret to aging the heck of a player here's robert smith [Music] and let's send you down now to dj johnson hey pat and john the site you're not used to seeing emma smith being taken off the field like that i got to see him in a tunnel he looked over at one of the trainers and said was i knocked out the trainer told him yeah he started laughing hysterically but then the other trainer told him you lost the ball also he's like oh i can't believe it i got knocked out and lost the ball but i tell you what he was smiling he was clear-eyed and he seems to be okay back up to you pat and john he can't believe he lost the ball out on the way down don't get fooled by that smiling there's a lot of guys that have been smiling when they're knocked out and didn't know they were knocked out culpepper with plenty of time again the pass is caught that's chris walsh who was knocked out of bounds but came down with the ball before he did chris walsh the old special teams guy he's uh one of denny green's favorite players in fact chris walsh played at stanford for denny grain and and he doesn't get to catch a lot of passes he does a heck of a job of catching that pass and keeping both feet inbound he doesn't do a lot i mean his main job is to is to play special teams and he is a good tough special teams guy third down about four the cowboys want a timeout something didn't suit him and so they called the timeout that means they have two left here in the second half i don't think they had enough guys in the field [Music] this fox nfl special is brought to you by southwest airlines proud sponsor of the nfl and official airline of the super bowl by nortel networks we're building the new high performance internet by best buy the place to find the magical gifts turn on the fun and by miller lite grab a miller light it's miller time you were awfully good at carving up the turducken yeah that's a cookie bouquet look here's why they call tablet one two three four five six seven eight nine ten that's an official anyway they only had ten guys and you see spellman was a guy alonzo spellman he went out and then he didn't get back in so the cowboys only had 10 men on the field so it's third and four they're showing blitz and here comes the clean blitz and it's incomplete williams might have been the closest receiver and the closest guy to dante culpepper was darren hambrick and it was a blitz and they came right up the middle and no one blocked number 54. you just watch hambrick he comes free right up the middle right there and he had to throw there i think culpepper was talking to randy moss as they went off the field i think he was probably telling him that that you know you have a break off if they come in a glitch you have to break it off quicker gary anderson and the kick from 29 yards away is good and the vikings increase their lead [Music] here's culpepper and moss [Music] this is what the argument was about now watch randy moss here he is open and he does cut that thing off and he doesn't get it and watch how upset he gets then he's i mean you can't do this but i mean he's a fiery competitor and he starts yelling at dante culpepper and culpepper comes right back to him because i remember that was the one that that darren hanford was right on him i don't think he could see him couldn't see moss is exactly what happened because hambrick was right in his face and then sherm lewis the offensive coordinator comes over and tries to calm him down but randy wass would have no part do you see him walk away from the conversation his tucker cut down this week on fox sportsnet we've got a full slate of gridiron action starting tomorrow with a special edition of college football saturday beginning at 1 pm eastern 8 10 a.m pacific then on saturday at 3 30 p.m eastern 12 30 pacific number one oklahoma takes on in-state rival oklahoma state tune to fox sportsnet on your local cable or satellite provider you know and eventually you have to get back to that i mean you know i mean you you get fired up and you're a competitor and you want everything to go in this is chris warren [Applause] high stepping for a cowboy first down you see robert griffith hit him robert griffith brought everything he had and then he had him get up and and check his helmet chris warren is a big guy and he's had some at seattle particularly some great great games and years right and robert griffith number 24 is going to see an unload on him his right leg goes up in the air he went back and he was checking his helmet to make sure he had all his parts chris warren's 230 pounds that won't help him now into the middle and stopping everything is kylie spam giving now that's from austin minnesota you know i was born in austin minnesota i know you were and that's hormel and that's where they make spam now when's the last time you had spam when i was in austin minnesota which was two years ago remember when we were doing those games up there i went home and saw all my people all the maddens and flaherty's and in austin minnesota that's what they have they have spam every day breakfast lunch and dinner here's eggman dumps it up the middle to tucker who ducks under minnesota tacklers crosses the 40 tony williams the the defensive tackle of the vikings was right on troy aikman and that's that's the thing that bothers him you know troy aikman was telling us yesterday that after the season he's going to evaluate whether he plays anymore or not and he said for the first time in his career he's going to consider the physical part he said he's evaluated before what he wants to do how long he wants to play he said but this year with the concussions and more specifically the fact he's going to evaluate and now he's got a code to go along with it he has time this time and the pass is out to mcgarvey right through his hands what a good throw by eggman [Applause] yeah troy aikman is going to go down whenever he goes out of this game is one of the top quarterbacks who ever played three super bowl rings yeah he's won the super bowl and and he has that accuracy i mean just just watch that and to be able to you know throw a ball like that on a day like this you know he doesn't like throwing those things but he puts it right in their hands all the time that ball is right there if you ever watch him in practice he's as close to perfect as you can watch barry cantrell walters back to return it at the 20. up to the 30. [Applause] there's the old cruiser in the rain yep we we got in here and there's joe mitchell uh one of my drivers putting the uh thing we you know you see we got the old six leg turkey here yeah yeah but now we got to go to you got to go to st louis we'll be there for sunday's game yeah you're going to eat all that between well i got i got to turkey i got to turducken you see all those pies i got i got yams i got sweet potato pie i got the ball came flying out and nobody saw it until the vikings fell on it you know that ball they're not doing a very good job of keeping it dry right now because you can see watch as the ball goes down there you can see how wet that ball is yeah and and watch every every step that they make and the vikings have different shoes on you see water fly out of there and when the water flies out of there it's going to fly in the ball recovered by david dixon you know there's a case i was talking about you take a wet towel and wipe off a wet ball and you still have it second in about eight [Applause] short of a first down a couple of yards that's one of the things they probably talked about is get the ball back to randy moss and you'll get him off that other stuff that doesn't help it dry i think i'd throw that one out as dj johnson said earlier they have 36 balls 24 for the regular playing of the game and 12 kicking balls third and two and 12 ever goes back in that shotgun again walsh is the man here comes the blitz and here comes spelman chasing and throwing his culver and he's got moss open and they get a first down and he was lucky there because alonzo spellman ran right by springer watch corey stringer here the right tackle lonzo spelman here he just beats him right there corn springer doesn't even get a hand on him but but culpepper did you see either culpepper saw him sure he did i felt him coming because he ran away from him about a little time here comes spelman i don't know that he looked to see him but he sure felt it to move to your left and then step up to complete that pass he was a guy who's big enough to hear him coming here's robert smith again and smith stays on his feet and gets the viking first down just rips it straight ahead you know there was a time when when people said that robert smith wouldn't run inside that robert smith wouldn't run hard that he liked to go outside to run out of bounds to do all those things i don't know if that was ever true but i'll tell you right now it's not true now no he is uh if that were ever true he's had a change of mind he's running like a football player now he's the deep back and he gets another carry this time not much doing to about the 35 20-9 minnesota leads with less than a minute left in the third quarter here comes matthew hatchett look at this missed tackles last week against baltimore the cowboys missed 21 tackles and that was part of the problem and part of their problem they were really over matched against the ravens but they did miss a lot of tackles today they've missed nine tackles so far which is an improvement moe williams is in front of robert smith in the minnesota backfield call pepper looking and throwing as far as he can throw it looks like and the pass is taught by moss touchdown it is absolutely amazing where philippe sparks was right there everyone is right there with randy muck and somehow they just get mesmerized and how does he get his feet down at the end of this i've always said i would throw two a quarter to this guy two passes deeper quarter because all you have to do is throw it up there and he's going to come down with it i mean he bumps a little and then he not only knows how to come down with it how to catch it but where where where his feet are where the look at this concentration he has he has possession and he has both i don't know i can't i don't know yeah here's the feet now we're going to see it's it's where that white line meets the blue line [Applause] i can't see it no no no we don't see the feet there so you have to this is going to be challenged it's all about possession the hands and the feet you have to have both the hands and the feet this one is going to be challenged by dave campo i'm not sure about that one of you well i haven't seen the feet yet i haven't either because we'll see and then he's got the ball now you can't see if that left foot's on the line through the left toe that's right but does he have body control to do that i mean you talk about concentration and catching the ball and hands you just think about felipe sparks last week he gave up a touchdown catch the first touchdown and now this one and he's got he's had good coverage on both of them as good as you can [Applause] see he's going to have a problem right here because we don't have any pictures that really show the feet and the hands and they ruled it or called it on the field a touchdown so remember it has to be indisputable evidence i don't know how he's going to see any indisputable evidence you said it's not a touchdown you said you were never going to forget that word again i know it it's up in there it's right there yeah like they take one of those branding irons and branded iron into my head indisputable denny green talk about guys who've done tremendous jobs i mean he's been at minnesota he's been the head coach nine years never finished play the ruling on the field stands down [Applause] denny has never finished over under 500 he's had seven different quarterbacks in nine years and still has the vikings year after year in contention yeah i mean when he lost for randall cunningham jeff george he loses jeff christie he loses randall mcdaniel his you know guard center both quarterbacks everyone thought that's you know they're going to rebuild they're not going to be anything for a couple years and he comes back and he's better this year without those guys and with these new guys than he was a year ago he's done a remarkable job although i thought they were the best two years ago when remember they lost championship i thought they were going to the super bowl that year anderson's extra point is good now this that touchdown by moss those last two touchdowns by moss are just a remarkable athlete making plays [Music] well the discussion between dave campo and the officials continues it's not going to change anything [Music] but the discussion continues yeah and again is the referee and we go back that they would have to see something to change it because they called it a touchdown and we didn't have anything to show this is what we have to start thinking about now there's so many vikings with so few turkey legs well but but randy moss i mean i mean this is this guy's amazing i i've said this and i'm not just saying it today because of that catch but if you take the quarterbacks out and you say who's the best player in football right now or the guy you would like to have i say it's randy moss well you think about robert smith getting him turkey leg you have to i think oh yeah yeah yeah yeah a turkey leg but if i had to if i could take oh yeah all the football anything about marshall faulk you're thinking about a lot of guys but i think randy moss is the best player he can he could like you feel the nutty professor oh i was i'm glad i didn't offend you i don't know across the 30 picked up about seven that's the end of the third quarter with the score the vikings 27 the cowboys nine fox nfl sunday from dallas will continue after a word from your local fox station [Music] good day [Applause] chris warren the ball carrier who's hit behind the line of scrimmage by tony you know williams you have to look down and say you know who are the best teams in the nfc and yeah and and minnesota if they're not the best they have to be right up there uh you know washington yeah tonight they'd be maybe uh they beat the st louis rams who i thought was the best team but i mean it has to come from from among that group i would take washington in the nfc we're talking about washington minnesota detroit's eight and four now as caught by chris brazil the turkey is coming in yep we gotta take it down there that's that's the smoked turkey right that's something that you you brought we got turkeys and turduckens and you know things from everyone that's willy yarbrough on the left there joe mitchell on the right and just put it down and get out bringing the ceremonies down to the real handling it very carefully wouldn't be something if they slid because it was slick enough yeah the turkey wouldn't fly it off [Music] i saw two bodies in the angle and go head over heel well there's a flag i i know it was right there that's what the penalty is i don't know what what happened but i saw two guys watch this right here this is what i saw and i don't i don't know what it is but there has to be some illegal stuff going on you see that that belongs in the xfl i think full takes place kicking team the left wing back the penalty has declined first down the vikings refused the penalty and take over leading 27-9 with 13 and a half minutes left to play [Music] we've got answers by visa the preferred card of the nfl visa it's everywhere nfl fans want to be by ford f series the best-selling trucks are built for tough and by ups moving at the speed of business minnesota leading dallas 27-9 hey madden it's going to be moss on your turkey leg i got an idea they're right well that's that's a prediction first and ten minnesota at their own 34. oh pepper gives to robert smith let's go down to dj johnson a few minutes ago you saw randy moss make a spectacular catch in the end zone he did that a couple weeks ago against buffalo we asked him about it he said those kind of catches he learned from the master of the sideline chris carter he said chris told him first things first you secure the ball let your feet drop let your body go limp and it should be a touchdown that one perfect example of what chris carter taught him back up to you pat thanks dj you can do that all at once if you're randy moore i guess you can do it and chris carter could do it too second and five second and four make it november to smith robert smith doesn't get the first gets a couple of yards stopped by darren hambrick something that's amazing crap this is a vikings 27 straight game with more than 300 yards in total offense and that's the most since the 1949 50 la rams and it's the second longest streak ever so i mean and they're doing it with we talked about earlier in essence a rookie quarterback not they called back l.a rams had the elephant backfield they had uh crazy legs hirsch bob waterfield north vancouver yeah tom fears they have some weapons too [Applause] coming up don't forget the ups post game show jb terry howie and chris scores and highlights and the fox sports ticker with up to the second stats all coming up here on fox [Applause] i wonder when they all come out on thanksgiving i wonder when people that come to a game like they live here in dallas the game starts at three o'clock do they have their thanksgiving dinner before they come to the game or after the game we were talking about that on the way to the stadium my guess is before there's a block before they come to the game [Music] that's wayne mcgarrity and mcgarrity is up to about the 35-yard line where the cowboys will take over 27 minnesota with a comfortable lead [Music] this is how our camera crew gets gets ready for the big festivities on thanksgiving day well it was a short week you know because they had a game sunday in baltimore and a game down here and then we have another one sunday in st louis so now these two guys these two guys think we're playing outside in minnesota well they're just they're just icing themselves down so they can get rid of the stuff that they got last time to get some new stuff here's eightman who's hit just as he let it go intended for jackie harris slow getting here's john randall right here now now now he'd been playing the right side i mean the left side he went over to the right side that time and you see what he did to flozell adams flozael adams just stands up like he's gonna creampuff him and and john randall just blow-rushed him and went right through him and and and he clocked troy aikman i mean it flows out adams is gonna pass protect when you get up like that when he comes in and gets that quick you got to pop him you just can't stand up there and catch that thing drops again and throws up the middle chris lauren shakes the tackle another one and gets into viking territory adams got the message that time he popped john randall before he got started and didn't let him do it to him finally stopped by chris hovind the cowboys are going with no huddle here but watch this is how you have to do it i mean you get right there boom you pop them right there and don't let them get started but that other thing he did that was bad yep here's aikman dropping again and throwing again and complete again jason tucker made the reception that's not enough for a first down about a seven yard pickup and the cowboys knowing that they need multiple scores here so they're they're going without a huddle second and two and off to warren second and three a third and three they lost yardage yeah that's a bad play second and then two and running a draw is a bad play if you want to get it to run then then just run it in there if you're if you're going to pass it pass it but you're not you're not going to fool him there that may have fallen back troy aikman numerous concussions this year and the problem with the quarterback sneak seriously with someone that has a history of concussions is to run a quarterback sneak you have to lead with your head yeah troy is upset about something right now and you see how he had a lead with his head there and that's what they have to do in the quarterback snake he probably didn't have his people in there to go no huddle first at and apron throws up this middle wiley makes the catch and aikman hit again and by tony williams tony williams has been giving him a little problem up there you know with that pass rush straight up the middle again the cowboys going no huddle tony williams the guy that made the hit darn here didn't get back there second and two john randall still over on this side hit lefleur in the numbers and he juggled it and dropped it he had the first down now you know the old cowboy fans always go back to jay novichok never forget him well they haven't really had one since since he left and they've had some wide receivers and you know backs and linemen but evan here's the way no john randall tries a spinner there seeing a spinner you just catch him and then you go and if he's going to have problems you keep your back into that side what chris warren did there is what they call chip you help your tackle by chipping the defensive end third and two heyman drops and throws and the pass is snagged by wayne mcgarrity he looks like the guy with the best hands so far yeah but how about that quarterback in a way i mean because he's getting some pressure and he's throwing it and it under some some real pressure and throw in some some perfect passes first and ten at the 20. warren leans forward for a couple and there's a flag on the play [Applause] a late flag yeah there was a little skirmish over there that's ben fricke the new dallas cowboys center frick he's only six feet tall so aikman was saying when i have to get down lower is it going to be again against dallas yeah that and that's what i mean they finally got something going here and and one thing the cowboys have had all year stupid penalties yeah during the continuing action after the play it ended personal foul unnecessary roughness number 66 offense 15-yard penalty remains first down [Applause] you know it's usually it's usually in one of those things that's it's both sides going i mean i did see the end of it and i did see what fricken was doing and he was over on the side right in front of the official but usually the other guy does something too yep and then the one they catch the other guy that did something didn't get caught and the other guy who did something usually did something first yes right first and 24. drops to throw it and going deep got somebody right through the hands of james mcknight [Applause] dropped it into the basket yeah they sure did i don't think mcknight's caught a pass yet hasn't yes he's got a couple of short ones i don't know but this this is the thing i mean as he throws it robert tate is right there he takes that right hand up there i don't know if he touched it or not i think he puts his right hand up there and misses see that there's three hands in there yeah he did there were three hands in there two of mcknight's and one it takes and robert tate did knock it down second and 24 and aikman fires up the middle and this one's picked off by robert griffith and griffith gets it back to the 40 and the vikings will take over that one slipped out of eggman's hands john randall still talking over there to eric williams john randall played most of the game against eric williams and then went over and played on the other side here robert griffith maybe the most underrated good player in a national football league and the vikings take over our crew getting ready again oh wayne's junko what was he doing i think some groceries are involved here's smith again flag on the play margaret it's the middle of the game where is everybody i don't know happy thanksgiving there they are minnesota you know robert smith already has about 150 yards that one that one there is not going to count but we you know we showed earlier the leading you know rushers against the cowboys and then football three of them against the cowboys offense number 73 10-yard penalty remains first down that's todd stucey the left tackle pat summerall john madden at texas stadium and happy thanksgiving one more time not a happy day for the cowboys mascot it's a happy day for the minnesota vikings as tom landry used to say thanksgiving is a good day to play on if you win because then you get a win and you get 10 days before your next game there's smith again bouncing it to the outside and right now for a game break let's return to james brown in los angeles a balanced effort today by the detroit lions who are looking to move within one game of the vikings in the central bryant westbrook having by far his best year a 101-yard interception return for score they win it 34-9 face the vikings next thursday in a huge game back to pat and john the man in the hat in the ring of honor at texas stadium tom landry you have one of the one of the great coaches and one of the great men as caught by matthew hatchet i think on thanksgiving i think a lot of people give thanks to tom landry and what he brought to dallas and to the cowboys and what he did for that team over the years he brought a lot of class look what these guys have done don't they call 14 for 21 two touchdown passes robert smith i said 150 yards he has 148 yards look at randy moss seven receptions 144 yards two touchdowns third and about ten and a half here comes the cowboys showing blitz and there they come and there's the pass completion to hatchet that's good defense though i mean it's you know it's probably too much too late but you get him in third and long and then you come on a blitz and you make him throw before he's ready to throw sure so so he has to throw that ball shorter than you make the tackle and that's the thing you don't want to show it you don't want to show it you come you put the pressure on that side he has to throw to that side but that's a zone dog and you and you you you dog and you zone in behind it and then and then you get you know fourth down and have fun mitch berger back to do the punting for minnesota this is a rocket that goes over the head of wayne mcgarrity and out of the end zone they'll bring it back to the 20. six minutes left to play at minnesota leading 27-9 [Music] this morning happy thanksgiving everybody from fox what a production that is that's up here in the booth with us yeah those are the guys i was overcome by the talent [Music] wayne fidelman stage manager rich nelson rick odioso who keeps stats for us [Music] so capably first and ten cowboys chris warren right here and warren gets up to about the 44 43 yard line make it aikman again [Music] yeah he only caught two passes but you know again his his guys are dante call into foreign harris that'll move the sticks clock also continues to move and this has to be tough for the dallas cowboys because you know they were thinking everything at playoffs this year yeah maybe even super bowl when they started and then you start losing and losing and losing and pretty soon all you're going to do is just finish the season that's wayne mcgarrity who ducked under one tackle here and you know with the cowboys they they still have some parts they just don't have enough of them [Music] second and five and aikman again [Music] dropped by warren looked like they had the right call that was a screen pass i don't know that was the right call or not because because they were coming up on that outside very very hard our crew again wishing you wishing themselves a happy thanksgiving thanksgiving kids the tape area you see the guy sleeping back there yeah i did tryptophan right about now on thanksgiving day tryptophan kicks in over those people that are getting tired there's something in turkey that makes us sleepy tryptophan that's lefleur who leans down to about the 32. you know when you consider the elements and the way the cowboys looked last sunday against the baltimore ravens there's a good crowd today excellent crowd and i think it's a tradition you know of every thanksgiving day the you know the cowboys play here and you know something tradition you know you go you take your family you go to the football game and there's some people that say that maybe they ought to change it around but i don't agree with that no i don't even i like tradition i mean when no one wanted to do it the dallas cowboys and tech sram said we'll do it no one else wanted it it had been done for years in detroit going all the way back to 1934. and then when they wanted a second game uh dallas was the only team that would do it lefleur makes the catch stretches for the first down ed mcdaniel coming up the post-game show jb terry and chris scores and highlights fox sports sticker up to the second stats all of the news of both games today all the highlights as the clock continues to run it was interesting we were talking about troy aikman as we looked there that he said this is the first time that he's really going to evaluate what he's going to do whether he's going to retire or continue to play but it's going to be the first time he's ever going to consider the physical part every other time when he would decide a time frame like i said earlier it didn't include physical but now with the concussions and with the back he said he's going to consider whether he should play anymore after this year well the concussion problem and the headaches that he was having have sort of gone away now it's the back that's its main concern yeah and it's a it's a facet joint i'm not sure exactly what it is but that's what he said yeah it's a facet joint on the left side that is deteriorated down low in his final column first and ten at the minnesota 22 for the cowboy you know just just as interest just in dynamics or and whatever it is physics how can a guy like robert griffith he had a big guy like with flora with just his shoulder and knock him sideways something to do with that joint you were talking about the facet yes good good leverage in the facet something i mean that robert griffith has something this pass is caught by jason tucker because he's not a big guy no you know he's he's out of san diego state he was a free agent and and he's one tough guy i mean he's a good tackler he's a good cover guy look at this he's had nine tackles an interception leads a team i mean i mean he's everywhere you know ronnie's there defense number 94 but you know they've been some little guys in the history of the nfl who have delivered really tough blows griffith's one of those guys but there's been some some players who didn't weigh much that were the hardest hitters look at ronnie lott although he was a good-sized guy yeah yeah and then you know i had one jack tatum yeah sure yeah you know wasn't a real big guy and robert griffith is really in that in that same category of not big guys but whatever they weigh they hit with more than that up the middle touchdown david lefleur well they've been waiting and waiting for a long long time for david lefleur he's been playing with an injury all year long they've been waiting for him to show some some spark and maybe in these last two drives he's shown it well in in this game you could tell that they were that david lafleur is more in the offensive game plan than he has been because like i said earlier as a tight end this year when they wanted a pass receiving tight end it's been jackie harris cowboys are going for two here and then i would imagine he'll go for an onside kick three receivers to the right nathan looks and locks it in that direction and there's nobody out in that direction but there's a flag on the play [Applause] they have to grab one of those receivers based on where he threw the ball and now what do you do now you get the ball half half the distance to the goal line you run it again well you know if there were if you had emmitt smith you know this could be a running down i think without emmitt smith i think there's only be a passing down even though you get the penalty pass interference defense number 20. as the foul occurred in the end zone the ball be placed at the one yard line right play the try see that's the thing it's now you got the ball on the one-yard line and if you had emmitt smith it would be a better chance at run pass i think even though it's a one-yard line and it's a try for two points i still think this is a passing situation without emmitt smith unless he sneaks it [Applause] and we're going to get you see here we got all these guys lined up here they're they're lined up right there ready to go on the outside kick which mean they're going to kick it onside kick to their left you see the vikings are waiting on that side the ball went through everybody to the last man who was matthew hatchett who caught it and fell out of bounds after he got possession this is remarkable but it gets through everybody again these guys here can't touch it until it goes 10 yards now it's gone and they just bring now it's gone 10 yards now they can be there should be a big collision there but no one was behind there to catch a ball other than the viking matthew hatchet so the vikings take over leading 27-15 229 left to play an impressive performance by the vikings and a courageous performance by the cowboys mo williams gets the carry and one of the things that the vikings still do even though they even though they have a new center in in matt burke who's doing a heck of a job good center yeah he's out of harvard and uh you know he's taking jeff christie's place or went to tampa bay but they still pull him on that last play that was the thing that jeff christie always did you always thought that was because he was smaller but now they got matt burke in there and he's he's still pulling and that gives him you know a bigger middle in there than they had before and we're going to get the two-minute warning with minnesota leading dallas 27-15 you know they're you're right john a lot of minnesota fans here including their biggest fan their owner fred mccomb red mccombs and he was just down there in that in that end zone leading uh cheers of a group of minnesota fans the latest information that we have on emmitt smith is that he has a concussion he had a concussion he's in the locker room and that's for the moment all we know he grabbed his head if those of you who were with us grabbed his head on the way down from the collision so what much doubt about whether or not he had a concussion third and four and the handoff again from culpepper to more william williams we'd like to take a moment to thank principal hardy mrs trussler and all the kids at the schwarzkopf elementary in sterling heights michigan for participating in our annual thanksgiving day tradition kids are refreshing they have some different ideas and they're not afraid to express them and they're part of the thanksgiving tradition yeah the whole thing the the kids the the football players the stadiums the fans the six-legged turkey the one size that doesn't get any better now that's right thanksgiving bob butler happy holidays mike roig happy thanksgiving christopher having thanksgiving zachary alexa and elia happy thanksgiving everybody director and producer thank you next austin powers is coming to fox in the world broadcast premiere of austin powers international man of mystery that's tonight at 8 7 central here on fox well the minnesota vikings are sure
