[Music] hey guys welcome to this session by intellipaat so in this session we're going to look into the mini cube installation so now mini cube is a tool which basically lets you run kubernetes locally so basically you can run it on your personal computer it may be windows linux or mac os doesn't matter you can still run on it and you can basically start using kubernetes using the mini cube client so we have put together this session in which we are going to show you how to install it on your own pc so before moving on to the session please subscribe to our channel so that you don't miss our upcoming videos and also leave a like if you enjoy our content now let's begin with this session so humanities is one of the most famous container orchestration platform which is out there and it is very extensively used and a lot of people are trying to learn kubernetes right so mini cube is one of those platforms where you can you know get a zest of what kubernetes is so in today's session we'll be in telling you how to install mini cube in windows exclusively right but before we get into all of that please subscribe to our channel to never miss an update from intellipaat now let's begin with what is mini cube so mini cube is basically a tool that lets you run kubernetes locally mini cube runs as a single node kubernetes cluster on your personal computer it could be on different kinds of os it could be windows it could be mac it could be linux pcs whatever os you are running mini cube is supported in all of those and so you can try out kubernetes and for daily development and work you can learn and you can check out few different things with the help of this tool called as mini cube now in this session we will be doing it for windows i will be guiding you along as to how to set up mini cube for windows and for that we have some prerequisites that you must have in order to run mini cube so uh first and foremost your computer should have two cpus or more it could be octa-core quad-core depends on uh your uh pc it should have more than that it should have at least two gbs of free memory space and 20 gb of free disk space that is required and another thing which is needed is an internet connection apart from all of this what you need is a container or a virtual machine manager such as a docker hyper kit hyper v kvm parallels uh quad man virtual or a virtual box or vmware i personally am running a virtual box but if you have windows 10 uh not home but windows 10 professional then you have hyper v i think by default and you can set that up so in order to be doing this installation uh this is a prerequisite that you run your virtualization platform and you enable it in your bios as well so you should have your virtualization platform up and running and it should be configured in your bios as well you can check them out on various different descriptions where you can how you can turn on uh the virtualizations in your uh bios right uh so that is that uh but if you are running a windows 10 home edition or something like that you would need something like a virtual box or something else i'm personally writing a virtual box for my usage right so that is that so let's quickly dive into the demo section and see how to install mini cube on windows uh there's a few few things i want to discuss before we begin so i've set up the virtualization so i have windows 10 uh this process will be in three different steps so you can do go two ways about it and you can either install cube ctl and get this mini cube and and all you have to do is set the path and you can run them really quickly either do that or what you can do is you can download mini cube from the website and you can run it from there as well so let me show you how to do it really quickly without wasting any further time so what you would need to do is quickly jump onto your web browser go here and you can search for installing mini cube something like that so you can see uh two things will pop up i i i would recommend that you go to this one cubities dot io so you go in here and uh basically uh you have the second link also in here so you can see different things that you need to install in order to run mini cubes you can either go for this which is this website uh where they have a way they will provide you with a direct link to install windows installer for mini cube you can use directly this or or you can follow the whatever we are going to do in this session so what we're going to be doing is uh we're going to be installing cube ctl uh from here so we will go for the cube ctl and uh you can go to github.com kubernetes mini cube slash releases and from in here what you need is different kinds of installation file for different kinds of oss which is out there so whatever suits your description you can go for that for us we will be using mini cube windows amd64 right for that one we will be using that and basically it's very simple from there on out so let's begin with that so for installing cube ctl you don't need to do a lot so in this section in this window on the official website just scroll a little bit downwards and you can see uh cubes installation on different platforms they have mentioned for linux it is there for mac os it is there but we are doing it for windows so we are looking for our windows so different configuration options are also there so there's brew install there is a mac ports installed something like that so installation on windows you can either curl but most of you will not be having code so what this is they have made it very simple for you just go to this link to download tubectl.exe what you need to do next is you need to cut this cubectl.exe from here if you are looking for end-to-end kubernetes training where you can learn kubernetes completely from scratch including projects hands-ons and exercises we do provide that and the link for that will be provided in the description just cut from here and paste it to whatever folder that you need to be so i've created another folder called cube and in here i have to paste that cubectl.exe right so let's do it now what i need to do next is i need to give an environmental path i need to give an environmental path for this for this particular cube ctl so that my windows knows where to configure it so for that uh click on this pc go for properties go to advanced system settings in here and you can see this environmental variables here right here right here just click on that once you have done that uh all you need to do is this this path you have to go here double click the path and if you can find the path in here well and good if not just click new and copy and paste whatever the path it is so for me i have defined that this is the cube so i have already pre-defined it but if that is the case all you have to do is uh just let's say if we are going for this one just double click this and just copy this and paste it here in the environment variables and just click on ok once you are done with that uh your cube ctl will be up and running so in order to test that uh you can just run a cmd or a powershell so i'm going to be going for powershell here and to set if cube ctl is working just type qctl if you get this set of commands which is in there for cube ctl different commands which are in there so your cube ctl is up and running now the next stage is so so far we have done is we have uh configured cubectl and we have uh basically uh uh provided the environment path variable for it the next step is to get the mini cubes now either you can go from in here and you know download directly this installer uh installer for cube windows installer for uh mini cube and this will uh basically do everything on its own you don't need to do anything with respect to that or what you can do is you can go for this one github dot com slash community slash mini cube releases go there this website right here and search for the mini cube amd 64 version get that and just download this one so what you need to do next is just find this one again cut it paste it in your folder wherever you have given the path for the cube ctl and rename this particular file to minicube.exe it's very important that you put the extension of the exe and that is the only way it will work once done we are ready to go so all you have to do is go to your powershell now you can have two three different kinds of commands in order to be running this one so let me show you those commands so if you are it depends on the virtualization platform that you are using in order to start mini cube so if you are using virtual box then most probably the mini cube start should work and that is what i will be using mini cube start should work if not if you are still using virtual box use mini cube start a hyphen hyphen vm hyphen driver equals to virtual block but in the other case where if you are using windows 10 a professional and you're using hyper v in in that scenario uh you'll be using mini cube start hyphen hyphen vm hyphen driver equals to in quotes hyper v hyper hyphen hyphen hyper v hyphen virtual hyphen switch equals to and the name of the switch that you have defined so this will be the command to run if you are using the particular scenario where you are using hyper-v but for me i have windows 10 home and i don't have hyper-v by default for me so i'm using a virtual box for my uh usage so that's why i'll be using mini cube start so let's quickly go back to the power shell and type mini cube start now i've run this before that's why we won't get some installation part but if you are running it for the first time you might be seeing some installation sites as well or like it will download some things but it should take a couple of minutes and it will start building uh different things for you to in order to run mini cube and once it's ready it will give you the messy leg mini cube has started our mini cube is ready and once we are there we can just check with the cube ctl command to see if our particular mini cube is running or not right so it is configuring everything shouldn't take more than two minutes uh but it depends on your pc speed as well and if you are starting it for the first time it might take certain time to download some certain components for it and it totally depends on that so it says the message like done cube ctl is now configured manual cluster by default namespace is ready in order to check if it is running just search just type the command cube ctl you know get nodes if you see something like this like mini cube ready master and english you know that your mini cube is ready so that is how you basically set up mini cube on windows so that is that guys uh so with that i will be concluding this session but if you have any queries or any questions the numbers are on your screen right now uh you can reach out to us for on any of these numbers or write to us at sales intellipad dot com and if you have any queries you can leave a comment down below and we will be happy to assist you as well so thank you so much for watching and i'll see you in the next one if you are looking for end-to-end kubernetes training where you can learn kubernetes completely from scratch including projects hands-ons and exercises we do provide that and the link for that will be provided in the description
