hi I'm Rob cause and welcome to my shop either the new bronzer key to Canada there are lots of maple we have lots of bird day so it's been probably 15 years ago I got c2 maple bar Birds Eye maple logs from a guy I can't fill you in on all those details but then to listen to them for five hours go on and on and finally he only asked me for forty dollars so I guess it was a good deal it's out if you come in close I'll show you these your bird dialogues I thought you'd find a kind of open on the camera if you see these TVs be to the birds eyes and actually that Telegraph see right through to the bark so you don't have to do anything other than be able to know what you're looking at you can see it on the bark this one's even easier to see tell those eyes this actually should have some good bird's eye in it now if you look up here these are the birds eyes you can see them radiating and they come out from the center so this is an eye this is an eye this is an eye okay so what you want to do is you want to cut your stock this way in order to get really good bird's eye or see it if you get it too much on an angle then you just get this long metrics like a Meg you Larry Ray so I can go cut the small one because it's a little easier to manage think of this monster of the way I'm going to use my new to me portrait 2014 bandsaw and I've got a 12-inch general jointer so we'll clean it up on the jointer as well now I when I always did with this stuff cuz I had cut piece of this up making small boxes so I only needs lid size which is usually 7 or 8 inches long by 2 or 3 inches wide by quarter inch so what I want to use some of this for I mean when I look at that that stuff that looks like there's a ton of bird day in there I want to use this for making saw handles now let's just show you real quick there's on there in the finished stage they had a nice bird's-eye gorgeous stuff so I need inch and a quarter and technically I need to finish one in so you end up cutting into the course from the air on I'll talk a little louder so you can hear me so I think the thing to do if we were to rip this right down the middle I'm trying to decide and looking at this whether or not we should cut it in thirds or if we cut it if we split it right down the middle and then we're able to make cuts like this I want to I want to almost make these the cuts parallel to those marine growth rings you're seeing right there this one this one is because the shape of the log lips I get a little too fine too so what we need to do is get a mark through the middle it's not perfectly flat on the bottom yes at that it will come up there now if you cut boards and leave it in the rough form about a year per inch to dry this does not slap them so I have no idea what to expect but I know they were cut a long time before I got them and I've had it downstairs in my shop where I control the humidity has been at least 15 years so this stuff might actually be dry enough to use now - okay what strange aesthetic group out of odd square quite long enough yes have it what I'll do is get this cut and then I'll take it over to Joyner slap it on this is got a five horsepower motors with lots of power freedom with that have you seen our video we did on the enough leggings check that it Oh Oh [Music] this is one see all those at mark got a big ole our conclusion right there they're only going to get small some other than anyway Oh [Music] either all your birds eye's but you're cutting them parallel to the bird's eye so that's what is n that's grown-up like we want to be perpendicular Thank You Megan plus side up again make sure that my senses one this side at the end of the credit like right after I bought it joiners I put in a bird cutter his statement cutter his smartphone [Music] if you're wondering I met works are vote on that a lot of big horsepower you different sizes I'm gonna read the hard work hello community question is how do we topically safely will be loved like that the maker class again without wasting any run em over like that little concern for question sizes cause it's long if there are any yet Rock the dirt this girl I'm going to knock this point off I'll get started with the plane and I'll finish it on the jointer and then I'm going to do is I'm going to fasten a piece of plywood to it so that will sit upright like this and we can run the plywood against the fence on the and the bandsaw and we can slice this off but in order to get this I want to before I try to do this on the jointer instead of resting on a point I'll just take my plane to it and put some of a flat spot Jake come over here for a minute just actually never mind I can just we got chunk over having that piece of MDF mass but see me running the crocodile shot I've got that only to make sure the fence it is parallel to the line I drew [Music] enough Jake turn the arrow Darius all all [Music] now I gotta cruise in there so I don't want to lose there's too much in terms of the holes like that I shouldn't expect Oh twenty-seven [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] Oh we've analyzed now hold that up [Music] if he was I would 25 by 5x7 give me a second to cut that out set up for care look at now this is hardwood so I'm thinking we can get by with 3/4 and screws apply with a tap Cory ransom that maple with an upland suit me fine and that's get it close [Music] [Music] I want to make sure is that when we make these cuts that's too high out [Music] marketed to that other clamp if for fun Rick if you can eyeball them I want this I want the outside edge investing you get different parallel to be supplied know what I mean to look down there they went there no works alone yeah anything Dave maybe [Music] so I'm trying to line up these growth rings you can't see them on this side and that's I put a clean cut and a little bit better coming apart of the Catholic Church make sure to stop [Music] so now what we'll do to bring this up and the older turn around this way first path I need to take it to clean this out so probably maybe both right about there rid of that bump so I need to be from the blade late the fence the country now this danceOn is come with the fence and the blade is new and my friend that makes bandsaw blades told me that today's blades or the set is accurate enough you should be able to just keep your fence parallel in this case to the miter gauge slot and it will run through that'll make that easier I'm going to cleanse half but I used to do was draw a line on a piece of wood a straight line and then start feeding it through by hand and watching for any drift one side of the other and once you went in three or four inches you would just shut the Machine off and you make your friends parallel to that look that's dead that line because that was the turn direction that the blade was going to happen those who knows and you don't worry about that anymore I know ten and a half [Music] try this [Music] now nothing applied Oh [Music] take it off laughs [Music] love it as you please I've got a big pearly figure in there there's your first eye down there take camera [Music] Oh [Music] I knew there's going to be checks in there there may be a lot of them in May and that we get nothing out of it other than some boxes now take off this [Music] we're in we're an animal that in the pen forever picnic horses on [Music] ergonomics light Oh Oh I think I'll take up a couple back happy get second it will set up [Music] [Music] get back out I can do [Music] Am I Oh Nathan one and and I've seen better Oh [Music] if life feels like a box of chocolates you never know where you're going to get that into words I log in every morning that's that's problem is you've got a great food check here you got a check there get sick running down through there we hard for us to find any and cut out [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you never saw to create the whole plan what's the same hair so I'll go [Music] [Music] [Music] in fact I'm going to move that right now okay I I'm going to try doing this one just freehand they drew a pencil line on there I've got enough of flat down there I wouldn't cut that other side there really wasn't a figure on that side so that will give me enough to reference [Music] Oh Oh [Music] [Music] laughs line with some saltiness that's another reason why I had this when it was Green been cut off the sticker dry you wouldn't have had that but moisture lays in there and starts to break it down still usable wood bones you'll find that so that's that's some pretty good bird Tyree to there and they go patch over there as well much they work he's in the log like one more time [Music] I'm going to run this one over to join your super-ego [Music] a little Oh [Music] Oh [Music] Oh now I can I get two bad checks there so I can flatten this side and not lose anything I guess why I don't want to take my problems I'll do it first [Music] for [Music] my gopher I'm begging for the quarters I bet it has gotten into screwed up here anyway in order to wear bark on there I don't have the rhythm [Music] [Music] [Music] let's join it I want to take a little mark a lot of little mark [Music] I'll slice up the rest of that into thin pieces for boxers my drawing [Music] a little better than he so it wasn't the greatest yield out of a log that was a half a log that was 25 inches I still have that other section but I mean a closer we get to the center - this is the hardwood - brown SAP wood is the white but still that's that's some pretty good birth is not bad word we get it from work anyway that's bird's-eye maple from your friends I hope you enjoy it see ya
