hi and welcome to Town and Country TV my name is Mitchell Watson today we're going to show you a full tutorial of the Microsoft Sync system as it is in this 2012 Ford Focus so without further ado let's go ahead and get started the first thing that I want to point out to you that we are using a Ford Focus 2012 model that does not include the MyFord Touch system this is just the Sync system if you would like a tutorial on how to use your MyFord Touch system you can click on the link that's right here and it will show you step-by-step how to use everything in your my Ford touch so for informational purposes this is the Sync system the Microsoft Sync system this is the the my Ford is what Ford calls this and so before we get sort of want to show you a couple of the layout of the buttons and show you how everything is laid out so that way you can kind of see and be a little bit more familiar all right so you have two on the steering wheel the first thing you'll notice you have two as you come around you have two deep pads you have this deep pad will control the screen on the instrument cluster right in between the tachometer and the speedometer this little d-pad will control this particular screen right here now you'll notice you have your cruise controls your vehicle is equipped is located on the left-hand bottom side and you'll notice that all of your media controls are located on the right-hand bottom side you'll notice that the volume up is right here volume down you can change the station back change the station forward or the song and then you also have the green phone so these two buttons have a dual purpose they change the song and they also answer a call and they end a phone call and then lastly you have this little paddle shifter type of a button and this is the voice activation for the Sync system and so that takes care of that once again before we get started I'm going to break everything out in this video into a couple of different sections and so you'll find all of the different annotations right along the left-hand side of the screen and it will show you you can click on the particular parts of this video because this video will be rather lengthy lengthy because it's a complete tutorial on the entire system alright so without further ado let's go ahead and get started so the first thing we've already shown you the buttons on the steering wheel the second thing that I want to show you is the buttons up here obviously this is how you change it from CD to radio auxilary can be your ipod input your USB and a couple of other things phone it's pretty self-explanatory that's how you access the phone menu and then this is the typical menu that you would use to change a lot of the different formation info the the sound button and then you also have the d-pad right here this d-pad right here is a redundant d-pad that's on the steering wheel on the right hand side you have your back and forward button and then off you save your volume button now the next thing I want to point out to you a lot of people are confused as to what these buttons are right here these set of four buttons what that is is when you're going through your radio let's go ahead and turn it on you'll have these buttons at the bottom side you have mute and ást mute and ast tune and info tune an info so these two buttons correlate with what is it B bottom of the screen and so as you change your the type of radio that you're listening to or whatever you're looking at you hit menu you can scroll back down do all that kind of stuff when you find let's say you wanted to look at sync media your buttons at the bottom do change to shuffle and info so the the buttons at the bottom of the screen will change and but those buttons are what what controls those if your lock and unlock button in the focus and then you have your hazards pretty self-explanatory all right so what I wanted to kind of show you real quick the first thing I want to show you how to do is how to pair your cell phone up and today for demonstration purposes I have my iPhone 5 that's equipped with iOS 7 and so what I want to do the first thing you do is you need to go into the settings tool which that can be located in a couple of different places on your phone depending on if you're using an iPhone and Android whatever but you're going into saving settings in your King for the menu that says Bluetooth now I've got two other syncs sync equipped vehicles let's go ahead and remove those devices just so you can kind of see what it'll look like as a blank slate so this is what you'll look like when you first open up your Bluetooth if you don't have anything paired up well what you'll do is you'll come over into here and click on the phone menu and the first thing that it will say is that it was trying to connect to a phone because there was a previously paired phone in this car sometimes it might just go straight to add a phone if this is a brand new vehicle this one has had a phone kinda connected before so I'm going to scroll down to get it to stop trying to connect to a device and I'm going to keep scrolling down until I have delete all devices I'm going to start fresh here so I'm going to go ahead and delete all the devices now all of my devices are completely deleted out of the system and so what it says now is add a Bluetooth device which would be the same thing is if you're repairing this phone up for the first time in a brand new vehicle so you'll hit OK to add a Bluetooth device there's no K to begin pairing a device I'm going to listen to what she says she told me to press ok to begin pairing the device that's exactly what I do search for sync on your device and enter the pin provided my thing once again I'm going to listen to what she tells me to do that means go ahead and search for sync on my device which is why I took you to your Bluetooth menu just a second ago and there is the not paired sync that I'm looking for tap on that and it will ask me to type that pin number that's on the screen into my phone nine six one three one four hit pair for your safety please stay alert to changing road conditions and use syncs voice-activated features while your vehicle is in motion to use this device for Bluetooth audio change your source to Bluetooth audio in the media menu alright so now that it's got that it's asking me to set this as the primary phone what that means is if I'm going to be the primary driver of this vehicle it's going to ask to pair my phone up before my spouse's phone it yes to confirm that 900 you want to turn that on the answer should always be yes because that is a free feature that forward offers in the sync system that you'll never have to pay for what that 9-1-1 assist is is heaven forbid you're in an accident in the airbags deploy the sync system will use your parent phone to automatically call 9-1-1 for you even if you're not able to so some good information there download phone book hit OK you do want to download your phone book is that way you can voice activate some of the features so some of you you can voice activate your contacts in your phonebook if you download it and so now our phone is completely hooked up now our phone is completely hooked up so now what we want to do is kind of show you a couple of the things inside the phone menu now once again you don't have to be in the phone now that we're in the phone menu we need to get out of the phone menu you can click and hold that phone button right here for three seconds or more and it will take you out of the phone menu back into your media or your radio whatever you were listening to last it'll get you out of the phone menu and back into the radio you need to get back into the phone menu just tap on phone and here you can control everything from going into your phone menu to your call history you can scroll through your phone book if your phone is compatible you can which mine is not but you can actually have Sync system read text messages to you a lot of good information there and then you also have your phone settings sync services now keep in mind sync services on this setup is not complimentary when you buy your vehicle brand new it used to be it's not anymore you can still have the sync services but you will have to pay the annual fee which I believe is $60 per year for the sync services I think it's worth the money but it's not included free with the purchase of the vehicle so just know that up front and then you can keep scrolling through vehicle Health Report lots of different information just for purposes what you want to do let's look at the phone book you can scroll the say I'm looking for a the guy named Steve Watts will you go Jay through Z you hit that then you can scroll through all of your people that you have right here so some pretty good information but you get the idea now the other thing that you can do is over here on the on the steering wheel you can also click and hold that red down icon on the phone I don't know how well you can see that but that also will if you hold that will also take you out of the phone menu which is what you want to do sometimes because you can't listen to your radio if you're in the phone menu so you need to make sure that you know how to get in and out of the phone menu so there you go that takes care of that alright now I'm going to show you how to voice activate your phone book now that your phone's paired up and you don't have a kind of look through your phone book that kind of stuff she had a voice activated this little paddle shifter where that's got the guy's face that looks like he's talking I don't know if you see that but it looks like a guy facing to the left that is speaking waves if you pull that to you now this button might be in a different location if in a what kind of vehicle you're looking at but if you pull that to you sink please say a command call pile same calling Kyle same that's all you have to do is hold that button pull that button to you and then say hall and then however you have saved up in the phone book so it's really simple on how to make the phone call you just need to know how to do it and then hey Kyle I'm just testing out the sink system sorry to bother you no problem everyday thank you and then you can click and hold that red phone icon right there and that will end the phone call just as if you got on your phone and clicked in phone call and so that you need to know how to use those buttons now if somebody was calling in to you you would actually press that green phone icon so once again that's a button and that's about you'd press the green phone to answer you click and hold that button to end the phone call or to send them straight to your voicemail either one once again hold this button to you to speak now notice when you pull that button to you you need to know how to use the voice activation because if you don't do it properly it can cause you some heartache on how to use it you'll notice when you pull that button to you she'll say sink please say a command drink and she'll have a quick tone after she talks if you talk during or before that last tone she will not hear anything you said and it will frustrate you so I want you to listen to that again stain please say a command Hansol so you heard that sink please say command pink you need to talk after that last tone that's her telling you I'm ready to listen so just kind of just some housekeeping rules there all right so now that I've shown you how to place your phone calls next I'm going to show you how you can use your phone to blue to stream some audio straight through the radio your phone 100% wirelessly which is some pretty cool stuff now some people have Pandora some people have music on their phones and lots of different things but you have the ability to go through different different audio sources right through your phone so all you need to do right now we're listening to the radio and we want to switch it to the Bluetooth audio which is what you're doing you're listening to the audio on your phone through the Bluetooth so that function is called Bluetooth audio so pull that voice button towards you again sing please say a command Bluetooth audio Bluetooth audio and you have all of the music that is playing on your music on your phone now here's the cool part about that depending on if your phone is capable of it and most phones are at this point in time but you can even change the station without accessing your phone so let's say your phone is up here you don't have access to turrets in the backseat wherever but you sick of the song and you don't want to listen to it anymore it's really simple you have these buttons right here that I showed you just a few minutes ago and then you also have these buttons over here it's the same thing you notice you can change the song hit that button and it changes the song for you it's pretty simple redundant buttons so you get the idea you can change the song right there you can do lots of different things with your Bluetooth audio now if you need to change from Pandora to the music on your iPhone you can go through here and you will have to change it actually going into your music and changing it right here but once you have let's say you have a specific playlist that you want to listen to once you have that playlist structured up you can actually go through the playlist or if you have Siri that actually works pretty well too you can say you can actually command Siri through the phone you actually do have to hold the button here plays onra country now playing country music shuffled and so you can control the music obviously through the series system Siri works really well with the Microsoft Sync system and so if you have that that's a nice little extra feature but now that I'm listening to the country genre I can scroll through every song that I have on my country the playlist all the way through however you want to do it which is really really nice once again no wires at all all of that is completely wireless and I will tell you I know that that we're working with some audio from these video cameras but if you can hear it in person it's actually very good CD quality stereo so you get the idea there you want to go back to your radio just tap radio right here it will take you to your radio and some of the things you need to know how to operate and navigate on this screen once again this little pad right here does the same thing as this little powder out here if you want to go back you can hit the left button you can scroll through all the different types of radio like FM 1 FM 2 FM 3 a.m. if you have a serious satellite radio this vehicle is not equipped with it but you could actually scroll through and look at all of the different types of radio that's AM and FM and then you have Sirius which is grayed out obviously because it's not equipped but you can scroll through it right there you can scroll through the sync media and then everything is navigated right here let's say you wanted to click menu you can look at all of the sync media menus you can look at the audio settings like if you want to adjust the bass and the treble that kind of stuff you get the idea so just some good information here and it's pretty simple you just need to get in it and play with it and know that this pad right here controls this screen and then this pad it controls the instrument cluster and so that's that's basically how that works alright now I want to show you a little bit now that eggless you spend just a little bit more time on this I want to show you the audio settings and how you can adjust those you can go into the sound and then you can obviously turn your treble up this is pretty much how most of my clients like it about right here where it starts with the troubles the highest mids a little bit middles a little bit less and then basses a little bit less than that in the fade and the balance pretty simple stuff it works the exact same ways what you're probably used to so you get the idea now let's concentrate on the screen that is on the instrument cluster that is controlled once again with the d-pad that's on the left hand side of the steering wheel and it's pretty simple you have the same basic principle operates on this screen as what happens on the main screen right here you go all the way to the left and when you go all the way to the left you have you have when you go all the way to the left you have all of the different options that you have available trip one trip one trip two information and settings and then the system check those are going to be your basic now depending on what vehicle you have that might be a little bit different might change up a little bit but it's no issue there you just need to know how to use it and so trip one you select trip one and you can see the distance tool II you can actually scroll up and down inside the trip one see what you're getting fuel mileage there and then you can also see the trip meter as well trip timer and back to the distance will eat you can go back and say hey I want to go down to trip to select that one and you can actually do the same information on trip too so you have two different full sets of information and that's right there from that systems pretty neat and it works pretty well too is let's say you wanting to go to New York City but on the way to New York you want to find the stats you know if you're going through the mountains to get to New York you want to find out what you did from here to the mountains and then you also want to find out from here to New York just more information for you almost information overload but you get the idea information is pretty simple so exactly what it sounds like you can see how far the person's been driving on my key which my key is the I think what let's go over my key in just a few minutes because that's a whole nother animal in itself and so you kind of get a different and forget the information there and then settings is exactly what it sounds like this has to do with the drivability of the vehicle the screen over here has to do with the entertainment function this screen has to do with the drivability of the vehicle and you can look at your lighting which gave me a little time out there but go back into it you can see the lighting the display the convenience all this kind of information and you just need to sit in it and play with it and so you can see all of this information once again no matter where you are in these screens it's just like a computer if you hit left a bunch of times you notice on the computer that the back arrow button on the browser is always pointing to the left the same works here hit left a bunch of times and it takes you back to the main home page the main menu if you will and then system check is exactly what it sounds like you can actually perform a system check and it will tell you everything about the system right there all right one thing we do need to talk about is the Mikey now this is not standard on every specific vehicle but it is a part of this vehicle as well so I am going to talk about it the Mikey let's tell you a little bit about what Mikey is and then we'll show you how you can set it up and that kind of stuff all right so when you have a vehicle is equipped with Mikey Mikey is basically a babysitter for a younger driver and then in an inexperienced driver will be taught good driving habits with the Mikey so what happens is you can create you have two keys when you buy the vehicle you'll have one key that you can set up as an administrator key and then the other key will be the Mikey the Mikey's which you would give your child or someone else that you don't trust fully on their driving skills and that key to them and then when they use that key to start the vehicle it limits the vehicles speed to 80 miles an hour not only that but they actually have to be buckled up in order to listen to the radio at all and even when they are buckled up it limits the loudness of the audio so that way your child or whoever's driving your vehicle can't just have a dance party while they're driving down the interstate and so once again it is just a kind of like a babysitter for the person that's driving the vehicle children hate it the parents love it it's a great feature now the other thing that the Mikey will do is it will actually you can set up alerts to where the the system will ding the driver if they go over a specified miles per hours let's say you talked to little Johnny and little Johnny is not supposed to be driving anything over 55 miles an hour wee you set as the administrator you can set Deedle at the top speed 255 miles an hour and if little Johnny decides to drive any faster than 55 then the car will deem him to death Bing Bing Bing Bing Bing Bing Bing until he slows back down and so once again the kids hate it but it's a fantastic tool to learn how to use proper driving habits and so that's basically in a nutshell that is the the sink system once again with the this is the sink system that does not have the MyFord Touch system and it also does not have the sink services the sink services will actually work exactly like it does on the myford touch the reason I did not cover the sink services even though it works in this car is because it's not complementary on this particular vehicle when you buy it brand new once again if you would like to know how the sink services work you can click on this link right here you've got a full tutorial on the sync service ISM and how that works so make sure to check that out one last thing we want to cover before we go this is pretty self-explanatory so this is going to last about three seconds but this is the climate control once again this will vary depending on what kind of vehicle you have this one is featured with the dual climate control you can adjust the climate right here plus the adjust the climate right here just the fan speed or select automatic and once again this will vary depending on how your vehicle is equipped but you get the idea fan speed up fan speed down power on you have the max a/c excuse me the max defrost a/c you can adjust where the fan is coming out of and then you also have your recycling of the air conditioner of the air inside the cabin and then you also have your max air which will turn your air on full blast there so that's basically in a nutshell the entire technology portion inside of this Ford Focus if you have any questions we would appreciate it you can
