[Music] in this video i'm going to show you how to use the manchester metrolink tram service there are a few different ways to buy tickets for your tram travel on this journey we purchased our tickets from a ticket machine at the tram stop but later in this video i'll also talk about how to touch in and out using your contactless card or device when buying a ticket to travel by tram you'll need to select which zones you want your ticket to cover it helps to look at a map to see which zones you'll start in pass through and finish your journey in as your ticket needs to cover all of them the color-coded lines on the map show you where the trams go from and to which particular stops so you can use these to plan your journey we were traveling from saint peter's square in zone 1 to timperley in zone 4. so we needed tickets that covered zones one two three and four because remember your ticket needs to cover not just the zones that you start and finish in but all of the zones that you pass through as well there are some stops which sit on the border of two zones if that's the case you can use the metrolink zone finder to enter where you're travelling from and to and this will tell you exactly which zones your tickets should cover i've included the link to the zone finder in the description there are a number of different ticket types available including single journeys seven-day travel cards family tickets and many more we purchased two adult one-day off-peak travel cards i've included a link below to view all of the different ticket options so that you can decide which is the best ticket for you [Music] with your ticket purchased you're ready to board the tram you can work out which tram you need to board by looking at the final destination of the route that you'll be traveling on we were boarding the tram at st peter's square and getting off at timperley the final destination on the route is ultringham so we needed to board the tram to altering them at many tram stops different trams heading to different destinations share the same platforms the screens on the platforms display which trams will arrive at each platform and when we waited for the tram to alternate to arrive and boarded inside the trams there are maps of the tram network as you travel along your route the tram will make a stop at each of the stops shown on the map screen displays which stop is coming up next then as the tram arrives at each stop a recorded voice message also tells you which stop will be next the next stop will be when you get to your destination stop get off the tram and you've successfully made your tram journey now as promised let's talk about how to use the contactless pay-as-you-go system to pay for your travel using your contactless card or device to travel with contactless you touch in at one of the smart readers at the tram stop before you board the tram and then using the same card or device touch out at one of the smart readers at your destination stop when using the contactless pay-as-you-go system you'll be charged for your day's journeys at either the adult anytime single price for a single journey or the adult one-day travel card price for multiple journeys up to a daily cap that means that the price you pay will be capped at the price of either an adult one day anytime travel card or an adult one day off-peak travel card depending on the time of day that you travel this is a really convenient option that allows you to pay for your travel in a hassle-free way but if you want to use a single contactless card or device to pay for more than one person's travel or you want to purchase one of the other ticket types then you'll have to use a ticket machine or one of the other methods available links to more information on touching in and out with contactless as well as all of the other ways that you can purchase tickets are included in the description box below thank you for watching i hope you found this video helpful and informative and have a great tram journey you
