Meta Quest 3 review (from someone that wore Apple Vision Pro)

in the future we won't sit in front of a computer the computer will be on our head at least that is what Apple wants us to believe and meta as well but the Apple Vision Pro which I wore by the way is not out yet and it is super expensive and The Meta Quest free is almost the same thing and it is way cheaper and it is super impressive so who is it for I used it for 1 month now I think the meta Quest 3 looks much cooler and more modern than its predecessor and all the other VR glasses it's amazingly thin so it no longer looks like you have a thick box on your face it looks like a narrow box on your face everything is more curved and feels more robust and wellmade even though it's only plastic there are three stripes in the front which I find less creepy than the eye display on the Apple Vision Pro the padding that touches the face is soft and made out of fabric you can replace it the headband is also interchangeable and the lenses on the inside can be freely adjusted it to fit any eye distance unlike other VR glasses you can wear glasses underneath the meta Quest 3 so you don't need Optical lenses the headband that comes with the product is relatively comfortable but it's not the best out there it does the job but you will find better ones on Amazon for like 30 or 70 bucks the best thing about the design of the meta Quest 3 is that it is so compact you can easily carry it in a backpack or just in a jacket pocket mattera has improved the lenses and the display of the quest free it's a so-called pancake lens and it is the best I know with the old Fel lenses the glasses had to fit exactly so the image was perfectly sharp here on the other hand you have a little bit more freedom the lenses are sharper and there is a 133% wider field of few I haven't noticed any strange Reflections the only disadvantage of the pancake lenses is that they are more expensive and they shallow a little bit more brightness hint why there is no h HDR the new displays are much sharper 4.5 million pixels per eye that's a million more per eye if the Quest 2 was HD and the quest Pro was full HD this is Quad HD still not 4K that is only available on the Apple Vision Pro and I already tried it on and it was perfectly sharp I couldn't see any pixels at all but it only had 90 HZ and The Meta Quest 3 has 120 HZ I'm pretty impressed with the picture quality the colors are quite neutral text is pleasantly sharp and you don't see noticeable pixel steps only when text gets really small and off the edges of Windows you can see a thine dancing pixel line because this is the LCD technology black levels are not super good it's fine because you don't have any direct comparison and you don't struggle with the problem of the OLED screen door effect but longterm OLED is definitely the future you can either control The Meta Quest 3 with the now smaller controllers it comes with or simply with your hands this works amazingly intuitive and precise you can either point at things with a laser pointer or tap directly on the surface as if it was a touchcreen this was my favorite way of typing on the floating keyboard not all fingers are always recognized perfectly and you have to be a little bit patient and but the Simplicity that you can operate this thing without controllers is nice the Apple Vision Pro is controlled via ey tracking that felt much faster and cooler it's a great shame that the quest free doesn't have ey tracking because the quest Pro did and in my opinion it is the UT method of the future it's also a shame that some apps and games can't be controlled with your hands you have to use the controller sure it makes sense for something like mini golf or when I'm holding a gun and I have to press a lot of buttons but in the future it would be cool if the controller disappears completely the software is very nice and extremely easy to understand it is so easy that everyone will get the hang of it after 2 minutes moving Windows scrolling through menus and having a lot of fun playing games since I own the Quest 2 there have been several big upgrades the user experience now is totally different than from the start so I believe the same will happen with these things as well the past through mode has been greatly improved you can see your surroundings in color and 3D with a natural field of view the camera quality is obviously not at the level of reality but it wasn't with the Apple Pro either if reality is a 10 out of 10 The Vision Pro is an 8.5 out of 10 and The Meta Quest is a 7 out of 10 it's amazingly good so good that I can see my smartphone read text and type on the keyboard so good that I can sit in front of my computer and see everything in dark environments image noise is present but in Pride rooms it fades out you can theoretically ride a bike with these glasses that's how good the pass through mode is and it enables mixed reality virtual elements in the real world I found it very funny to look at the mirror and be able to see myself even though I have this thing on my face I can see you right now well I see the camera through which you can see me but you can't tell well I just told you but you can't tell with the glasses there's no indicator that tells you that I can see you right now and the Apple version Pro does have the outer display with animated eyes but I think that's a bit creepy it would be nice if there are some Led rings around the camera maybe that light up when I can see you so you can tell that I can see you and not only I know whether I see you or not in the past you had to draw a safety zone on your floor before using the glasses but now the glasses recognize the room themselves and that is great everything is powered by the new snapch xr2 Gen 2 the graphics unit is 2 and 1 half times more powerful and consumes only 50% of the power than before the integrated artificial intelligence is eight times more powerful the higher performance is partly needed for the higher resolution displays but the graphics in game are also higher and with better lighting effects I noticed a much lower latency in meta workor rooms which is an app that creates an virtual monitor for your own computer it used to be okay in the past but now it's quite good and it could be actually a monitor placement when you are traveling but there's one important question and that is do I need a quest free and what can I do with it well you can do a lot with it there is a large selection of VR games you can buy and download them directly on the glasses mini golf Among Us Resident Evil and when it finally arrives GTA San Andreas in VR there's also Assassin's Creed Nexus so there are bigger and smaller smaller titles and you can also use the glasses for steam VR VR games are pretty spectacular and they can make you sweat but the quest is also great for watching videos and movies I find that if you sit still the weight of around 500 G gets on your nerves at some point but the higher resolution at least makes the whole thing nice and sharp it is worse than a big TV but definitely better than watching videos on your smartphone because the built-in speakers sound amazingly good and above all very spacious I do have some criticism every time I use a VR glass I am impressed with it I like it very much and I use it for a couple of days and weeks but then it sits in a corner and collects dust and that happened with all of the VR glasses the PlayStation VR The Quest 2 every time I pick them up I'm super pumped but then I don't use them and many people I know have the same feeling with their VR glasses and I think the same will even happen with the Apple Vision Pro because it is just a little bit uncomfortable to have something in your face is heavy it ruins your hair you need the space in your living room and the Apple Vision Pro is super expensive this thing at least costs only a fraction of it the battery life is kind of a point of criticism it hasn't gotten any worse or anything and it always was long enough for my use but 2 hours is not that impressive it is charged via USBC but you can also charge a continuously with the power bank in your pocket conclusion you may have realized that I do quite like The Meta Quest 3 I do think it is a great improvement over the pre-processor better design way better image quality the pass through mode and the over two times more performance numbers that's everything is just great the price went up a little bit it is now 550 but that's still quite cheap for what you get so I think it's a great deal but you have to keep in mind that you ow but you have to keep in mind that you will spend money with the glasses because you will need to buy some games and apps so it's like a game console almost and I do think that's the closest thing we can compare it to right now it is like a game console but there is a lot of potential and it can be much more in the future
