Meghan Markle's Sister's Message to the Duchess of Sussex | This Morning

now we're starting today talking again about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex this decision to step down from full-time royal duties a subject that still on everybody's lips in the newspapers and we're all talking about it but nobody it turns out was less surprised than Meghan's sister Samantha Michaels well let's find out why she joins us live from Florida with her thoughts on all off bat at Samantha good morning because you know it's very early in the morning for you there there so thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us and look the first thing I want to ask you maybe is we saw a lot of news coverage here at the weekend and I wonder could you shed any light on the lawsuit between your sister and the Mail on Sunday newspaper here the paper has said they are prepared to defend themselves in court and that your father could be a key witness for them do you actually think that your father would be prepared to testify against his own daughter well of course it would and I you know I I don't consider it you know testifying well I guess it is testifying against her but the truth is the truth and so based on that of course he would testify what do you think of what they're actually arguing a bike which is this brief the this breach of privacy in terms of communications between your father and Meghan well firstly she had mailed him the letter and I don't know how the laws are there but in the United States you know if someone mails a letter to you and it ends up in your postal box it is your property and she wrote the letter with the intention of giving it to him therefore it's his and so it's his property but there's also the issue of allegedly she had shared it with several of her friends and also People magazine so it you know it went from the private forum you know from her to my dad but it also went to people magazine which is the public forum and that you know this claim of breach of privacy doesn't really seem to have a legitimate basis when you consider all of that it it seems somewhat ludicrous in my opinion Samantha despite all the things that have gone on in this Court case now it does seem very extreme despite their differences it does seem very extreme for father to be going into court to testify against his daughter why do you think he'd be prepared to do that why does he feel so strongly about that well you know in consideration of the fact that that letter seemingly was written for the purpose of being seen it seemed to be part of a smear campaign it seemed to be PR structured and it was entirely untrue and you know I think it's contrived then you would say Samantha mean you say it was written but the purpose to to be seen it was deliberate it was structured in the way it was composed absolutely and and you know the the contents of the letter were not true it was written seemingly in an attempt to discredit my father when he had been telling the truth about paying for her entire education just to name you know a whole cascade of things I think we're all a bit confused I mean obviously you're you're very close and I'll ask you what the state of affairs is between you and your sister but we're very confused here in terms of the public because you know we see in in terms of a public life which your sister saying she's going to step back from but this week and we saw her appearing in Vancouver with a woman's refuge we see a very caring compassionate side and to her so is she that person or is she someone else in my opinion she is someone else and you know when I saw that I it felt like a PR stunt on the grounds that you know my first question was you know how many coats and pairs of boots were the women at this shelter given what were the donations like and so you know it still is my opinion that you know public events are helpful and they they raise awareness but really people in desperate crisis situations need resources and help so in absence of that I just felt it was absolutely PR oriented look what relationship do you your father your brother have with Megan I mean you've spoke about her before not everybody would have believed you before you'd have been mocked before do you feel your case as to how you describe the sister you know is stronger and I in other words are you saying to all of us 9:00 told you so you know I'd be lying to say there wasn't a little part of me that you know was always out there just you know steadfast on the truth and as she progressively behaved in ways that I felt was were inconsistent with the definition of humanitarian I became more outspoken but I was also outspoken in defense of articles and publications whom I'd never spoken with saying things that were untrue and it became this vicious cycle of setting the record straight rather than just being out there trying to get attention and yet you know the entire time I was still telling the truth so in a way yes I feel vindicated but under the circumstances with so many people having been hurt by all of this our family and the British royal family it will I can say it's not it's not well it's not always a good thing being right it's somewhat sad to be right in this case and it's one of those one of those people who you talk about who seems to be very sad about this obviously is your father Thomas you haven't been in the best of health as we know how is he now what does he make of his daughter now stepping down and that from being senior royal here and do you think that Harry and Megan coming to live in Canada possibly America to be near will be nearer you can you see any reconciliation for your father with the couple well I can't speak on his behalf other than to say he'll have quite a bit to say soon and as he did say you know he's disappointed I think he is surprised that the royal family is has also been hurt by this and are seemingly disappointed and I I don't see a reconciliation at this time there's you know there's too much water under the bridge and if it was just a matter of miscommunication or you know erroneous I I mean misunderstanding because of public perception and the media that would be one thing but there seems to be a lot of deliberate it you know ignoring and disregard of the family and and PR attacks that allegedly were very structured and part of you know part of a smear campaign against the family and it just is so uncalled for and hurtful so a reconciliation would not be likely I mean how's your dad to mean you talk about the family there at all has has your dad met his grandson Archie yet as has he even met his his son-in-law Prince Harry no and I I will let him address that at a future date but you know I and it's sad that he has not had the opportunity to meet Archie but I think it's also sad for Archie even though he's really small now as he gets to be a little bit older my dad is a great dad and so it's it's a loss to Archie not to have that opportunity all my dad is alive and as your is your father still keen to meet his son-in-law Prince Harry where do you think that's going to happen soon I can't say soon you know and if it does I really feel that Prince Harry and Megan I have quite a bit of apologizing to do this I you know we're not talking about teenagers we're talking about adults who I believe knew exactly what they were doing and and with regards to my father it was so incredibly wrong and unfair and shocking really why do you think your sister didn't enjoy royal life it all started off so well and it all went wrong so quickly from my perception as I'd seen in the media I feel and it appeared outwardly that she did enjoy it when there was the quote Fab Four and there were the photographs of you know her her hair blowing in the wind and the smiling and the waving and you know the contrived British accent you know it all it was all seemingly great and wonderful then but when the public began to criticize some of the expenditures and the behaviors and protocol that had been broken the tune changed and it became a bit more of an attribution error of avoiding accountability and suddenly you know flipping the script and quite shocking and hurtful that the issue of racism would ever come out because I didn't see anything that was ever racist in nature and so it just it seemed like you know a Miss placement of blame to avoid accountability for you know many things and I just I I just thought it was a gross breach of duty and responsibility and honor and confidence that had been placed on her you know I I thought it was quite a well stretch yeah you talked earlier there about him a concerted PR campaign and she obviously has her own PR people and whatever and you talked about when it went wrong in the eyes of the of the public you know and whatever here do you think the life here as a royal was different from that as an actress in Hollywood who she surrounded with whom she can grant access to or not is it a control thing do you think I can't really I can't really speak to that you know I I feel that she knew what she was getting into and perhaps it was control maybe you know she thought that she would be given more responsibility and freedom than she actually was but you know within any structured environment those things are not instantaneous there is a protocol and and a hierarchy and a matter of going about things diplomatically that takes time and perhaps she expected too much too soon it seems I don't know but and and the decision to step back do you believe knowing your sister as you do that that was a joint decision a megan decision or a hury decision I'm feeling as though it was her decision because she wasn't happy with the criticism that was taking place publicly and you know to get back to this issue of my father and what he was going through I think it's important for the public to know he really did have not one heart attack but two he was always very honest about what was going on and I I think that you know for the PR to be structured in a way is to make it look like that he faked it or that he engaged in a photo scandal he did not and when I took credit for that paparazzi had been skewing photographs of him in such a horrible light you know no professional human being would want to be seen in that light I thought it was very unfair and my thought on it was you have a right to defend yourself and to be seen for yourself and for the British royal family as the men that you really are engaging in your normal life activity without someone skewing it negatively so I suggested you know just as one would on a business card having photographs of you honestly presented to the public and those were horribly skewed into something that they weren't there never was a photo scandal he had been turning down paid interview so it wasn't about money and with that - but we are running out of time but we're talking a lot about obviously wood things that have happened and happened in the past what about me moving forward now if you could send a message to your sister now moving on moving forward what would you say to her I would say that life is very short and you know in the big picture the money and the fame don't really matter what matters is personal integrity honesty family and and so I would hope that she would come to grips with that apologize and certainly for the benefit of Archie and you know the British royal family move forward being honest and look look after the best interests of others you know it's um it's so it's so important and and that's all I can say I don't
