Mega Man 8 Race of orsa v cleartonic in 51:29 - SGDQ2018

$25.00 been watching you guys for years thanks for making my work week go by easier and for supporting a great cause and with that we are ready for the mega man 8 race so everyone in the crowd let's give a huge welcoming hand to orsa and cleartonic and our wonderful race commentators and let's let this race go [Applause] ok this is the mega man 8 race with Horsa on the left tonic on the right these are the top two players of rock man 8 in the world only 2 with a 50 so should be a good race and I guess ready to start whenever you are you guys good ok I'll give a countdown three two one go alright so this is a the classic Mega Man game on the PlayStation features sliding with weapons swapping a bunch of the best features of the series and has a unique weapon which we'll be getting in the intro stage called the Mega Ball coming up which is really the icon of the games I would say has a bunch of uses which you'll see pretty much immediately check out this gorgeous beard for a second [Music] so as you can also see while you have the mega ball out you can use the busters so there's two buttons to attack with and as you can also see you can jump off the mega ball which is really the selling feature of the game it's really cool stuff you can do with it to see a lot more of it in the later stages we got a little preview there now this is the first boss the auto cargo which well they just gave you the mega ball so it's his weakness and hopefully they can kill him before he gets off the ground I sense it's the ball you can kick it so they're gonna kick it into his face alright good kills [Applause] it's a little tricky to get them before he gets off the ground but the mega ball does do a lot of damage in a lot of situations as they are playing the they're both playing the Japanese version of the game which actually I believe doesn't save any time at all but you know personal preference all right so heading into the robot stages this game is divided up just like Mega Man 7 was into two sets of four robot masters and they're gonna be going to grenade man first for a couple reasons one his weapon is really good but the mid boss gives an item that is really helpful and going fast throughout the run and immediately you're gonna see usage of both Buster and Mega Ball really this is like one of the hardest screens to get down in the game it's like one of the first ones see how not only are they jumping off the ball sometimes but you're going to see them as much as possible slide off of a Ledge and jump off the ball those are called money jumps classic perms and it's about an eight frames window to do that just lets you slide a little more off the platform small optimizations think this room coming up is the first real showcase of the ball it's good stuff right now the mini-boss room I believe is his name well he can dive underground and become invincible and it's really just this fight is a complete Fame now fully charged Buster and a ball do the same amount of damage and believe it's believed that standing in a certain spot will manipulate him to not go under as much but it's also way harder to hit him in that position as you see dove on horses screen when you pretty much is that the weight very good tonic just caught up just from that boss alone welcome to make a man hate there is there's a lot of randomness with bosses in this game so should be exciting and now from that mini-boss this the other reason go to grenade man they got rush bite which well he's very good boy and then you get to just ride him through the stage real fast you'll see this in a few stages throughout the run [Music] [Music] see some nice damage boosting and money jumps and I'll in this section and sorry to the boss so there are three levels of Buster attacks in this game you get your normal lemons you got your half charge and then the full charge now they each do more damage depending on the enemy and against Grenada man the best way to do the most dps this is just do half charges over and over so you see the little blue shot they hit him with generally you want to like open fights or fully charge your Buster when you have downtime but against him go to see lots of half charges and after a certain on a healthy jumps down below good bikes it's a tricky boss crowd knows what you're talking about you get the weapon in a flash bomb which is an extremely strong weapon what I love the weapons in this game they're all real strong and fun and the the best feature is in addition to quit weapon swapping you can have multiple weapons on screen at once which is another classic mega manager you can swap that's generally not the case but allows for some real cool stuff in this one so frost man's coming up this stage is known for its auto scrollers I suppose but there's a little gameplay outside of it that's horses feet jump jump slide slide autos doors a little different today [Music] yeah the stage is it takes a while but it's fun I think this section pretty much speaks for itself other than that they they want to pick up some bolts along the way because there will be a shop trip later so the any donations the stage is probably a good one to read it in thirty dollars from y 230 great event as always $25 27 watch for maybe three years now first time donating really enjoying spending since I found out about it knowing treat on those hot summer days thanks so there through the first autoscroller over the level and I'll get a nice another appearance of rush bike this is the stage that really makes me appreciate how gorgeous the art in this game is this level in particular the whole background and everything just a nice drive on rush bike for a bit you got a climb up the section this looks boy oh yeah and then after this elevator is another autoscroller but this one's a lot faster it's also a lot shorter because of that so that's nice stage is kind of a slog but always puts me in a good mood anyway it's nice and chill yeah you can see this is way faster than the first one most of the first one anyway both made it that's good and then Frost man the boss he's he's real simple he's weak to flash bomb you can pretty much just guarantee he's always taking damage with flash bomb it's a really good weapon just the explosion lasts a while so as long as you time the next one he'll always be taking damage Oh stay in real close then continuing the trend of really strong weapons yet ice wave from frost man which is it's good you're gonna see a lot of it it's real strong and since you can switch to other weapons you pretty much as you can take out stuff in front of you while you play the rest of the stage so tangu man is the next boss it does feature a few more auto scrollers but some of the NHANES roller sections are really the most fun in the game at least in my opinion now the stage does feature some pretty precarious platforms and also wins so they want to be moving with the wind for maximum speed as much as possible especially in later sections and this is the first big climb of the game coming up [Music] there you go so that lets you skip the section where you get in like this bubble thing and write it very slowly to the top and thankfully you can just skip it with Mega Ball good stuff man now this is the first autoscroller tango man there's really nothing talked about this one you just get through it there's the little stuff to know about in the second one but you see you just got Eddie as a partner there's four different partners you can get and because rush counts when you get it from there rush will start shooting but in the second section is gonna be important for them to get beat because there's a mini boss at the end of it and that's the best way to kill it for sure everything else kind of is just a pain now if they don't get beat they're gonna they might start taking damage to roll more party balls but in this first section it doesn't matter stages in this game the robot stages they have two parts it's kind of just like a brand new thing in the second part so kind of just chillin for a while if you have any more donations its autoscroller city yes Walter first time donor three things from the Philippines thankfully they both got beat immediately so the mini-boss should not be a problem at all oh go ahead no you know I don't have anything all these runs so far looking forward looking forward to Kingdom Hearts amazing speedruns keep up the good work everyone they're finally gonna reach the mini-boss in a second and so all you gotta do a beat is just hold down your Buster button and beat will kill a boss really fast it's gonna take damage boost into the boss because it does less damage than his shot that's it he makes that really easy just grab one more bolt so after the the bolts will be used after the first four robots are done don't worry about that when it gets there they got to pick up a few more all right we've got the second climb now this is the really fast moving screen don't worry there are platforms there all right it's good now tangu man this is a really really hard boss to execute properly this is weakness is ice wave however he's in the air a lot so you might see them do some fancy stuff to try to hit him as much as possible [Music] and he goes on the ground ice wave will freeze them in place a bit really good fight for more stay inside I like when they go way up and then dunk on them with the ice wave my favorite part now his weapon is tornado hold which you won't see use as much as flash bomb or ice wave but it has its uses it's it is strong if you get to use it and it has another bonus movement feature in which it'll push you upwards which you will see a little bit in the next stage which [Applause] of course is clown man the fourth robot it's uh it's a tricky stage the beginning you're gonna use rush bike and it's it's it's tough to get through optimally for sure one of the quote-unquote features of rush bike is if you get hit the timer his timer will go down you won't take any health damage but you'll get to use less bike so you really want to avoid that to get through this whole section it's definitely a tricky train car section coming up [Music] alright no big problems and then it forces your rush bike away in this part because the gimmick of this stage is the circles and the crosses they will either have nothing happen or they will damage you if you're on them when the guy hits the gong in the background you'll see more of that later but here's CC roll a lovely mini boss they're going to use mega ball and basically the goal is just to keep them in keeping in iframes as much as possible so you can see mega ball is just as good when you use your hand to use it instead of kicking it went really well for worse the same time it's staying real close here thankfully the mid stage checkpoints restore your health and weapons now this is a lot more dangerous of a screen because as you can see there's skulls and if you're on the skull when it goes off it'll drop you and that's not a good place to be dropped right there and if you're in the air when he hits the gong it will activate on the very next thing you touch so you can't just get away from it forever here's this screen really shows the power of ice wave for a bit just throw it and slide away and you can combo weapons here our sitted some real nice tornado hold combined with mega ball to go real fast and here's the first real tough climb of the game yeah it's tricky as you can see you get sucked into one of the boxes and then have to wait it's pretty costly it's tough stuff this is meant to be a maze after all all right so clown man you want to open up with a Buster but he's week two tornado hold but he's not weak to the projectile that comes out from tornado hold it's just the cyclone out of the top that was a real good clown man for more so meanwhile we have thunder carnival on tonic side which is the attack where a clown man just goes invincible for a while remember this game is a lot of randomness with bosses still got through it though [Applause] [Music] my con man gives you thunder qual it's a it's another good weapon continue the theme of the game in addition to that it has some grapple movement potential which you also see later of course and now after four robots you have the intermission stage where you gotta fight goooo it's a really really short stage when you're just doing any percent to get through it then against doooo himself they're going to be using flash bomb a lot of the time everything does the same damage to doooo everything relevant does the same damage to doooo except for a fully charged Buster but that takes too long because sometimes you want to put them in uh in invincibility frames with your with flash bomb and then sometimes you have time to charge a fully full Buster shot however sometimes duo does what's happening to or sit right now and just goes invincible all the time it's add insult to injury when he goes invincible he has multiple different lengths that he can be invincible for definitely gave horse of the business this game is fantastic duo bring in tonic back into it a bit he looks pleased all right so the four stages are down and now they're going to go shopping to buy the item hyper slider which well it makes your slides really fast and it is worth it to go buy this luckily picking up the bolts that cost them any time at all in any of the stages shopping takes a little bit has got to go back but as soon as they start sliding you'll see the speed difference and this these stages get real hard now in the second half you're gonna see a lot of mega ball usage over giant gaps oh yeah look at that fast slide okay so the split and robot masters they each have their own weakness chain like the first for a week to each other a second for a week to each other they basically got to choose somebody to do with Buster horse adjust got a nice maze skip there which is he set it up to be a three frame window that's tricky stuff for sure any risk dying if certain situations to get crushed but back to this since we're in another fun autoscroller back to the routing you got to fight someone with Buster in the second half and historically the only ones that have been done or swordman which you don't want to do that anymore Astro man is also a humongous pain to do with Buster's slash flash bond which is the secondary weakness right this pretty much works out the best the best you can manage no matter what you got to fight a boss that does some random stuff good mess with you [Music] all right another autoscroller down and into the second part of Astro which is it looks risky to say the least [Music] both of them made it through that without any problems it's good news and then you move into the much bigger maze in the second part here which well if it looks like they're just going in circles ten are just gotta hit the proper swish to get out of the way of the exit we should get somehow even in this maze you get a whole bunch of cool weapon usage moving on to Astra man himself on horses side as I said he has a secondary weakness to the flash bomb and you've seen it's how strong it is earlier so the best thing you can do is try to keep them in that so they're gonna make a ball jump up to him when necessary to hit him however Astro man also has an attack called Astro crush which is well it's a massive pain and of course you're seeing it instantly on horses side now this is what you want to see for master man yeah flash bomb was too damaged and Astra Manas 40 HP so you got to get a lot of hits in while dealing with all this it's just crushing away on both sides [Applause] let's kill for MRSA all right both made it through that's good as you could see from horses side when you get Astra crushed 100 times you take a lot of damage usually to make sure he can still hit him so he was a little close but he's good he's good at the game an astro crush well you get to use it yourself unfortunately you can't just spam it as much as you want like Astro man but it will be used against couple bosses all right so now it's just we're following weakness order in the second half Aquaman's weak too Astro crush and this game features something that not a lot of in Mega Man do which is swimming straight up swimming however it is still faster to slide whenever you have the opportunity so it's I think it's fun to try to optimize this tornado hold will push you forward there's so much cool movement in this game I love it those are real spikes Kacey furious now coming up is everyone's favorite mini-boss Tyrone a he hides in a waterfall hopefully doesn't hide even waterfall too much but this is one random dude thankfully you can like you have weapons and options to hit him whether he appears below you or above you but you can lose a lot of time on this guy right you can lose time after killing the boss it's fantastic hey you can kind of see the mess that that guy causes but thankfully he's gone forever now I can move through swimming section this aqua 2 is pretty hard I think especially on some of the later screens you just want to move on these bombs as much as possible [Music] [Music] yeah it's a little scary here do a lot of money jumps off of spikes and stuff and you got to make sure your damage boosts the right way or you'll be taking extra hits it went real well versa then Aquaman well he won't be much of a threat thankfully you can charge your Buster while using a stroke rush and it just works out perfectly with extra crushes four shots in several charge Buster's so he's not much of a threat as long as you make sure not to hit him all he's invincible just like that now they both get water balloon which it is a strong weapon you won't see too much use of it but if you ever watch like a TAS or something similar they can spam it as fast as possible and it's really strong but it'll have a few uses in this run as well including the mini boss of this stage and it's of course its sword man's weakness and speaking of sword man this stage is super cool now remember it's in the second half of the eight robot masters so you're guaranteed to have the first four weapons here and the beginning of the stage is divided up into four sections that you have to complete each using a weapon from the first floor robot masters you're going to see the usage of thunderclaw to take hit switches and grapple and it's generally just really cool the stage is awesome I love it you guys take all four these out tonics going to the this one first this is it's a tricky one if you with your tornado hold it's a big pain but thankfully spoke through it not too bad of a switch pattern for more so the three switches in the flash bomb section are random this is the scary one at tonics in the ice wave section because these fire pillars do instantly kill you [Music] but now after they're done with these four sections the mini-boss is healthier now I he's the there's a way to get a consistent tea cycle on him which will hopefully see he does he brings out a second phase basically in a certain HP thresholds but you don't want that to happen no waste time luckily he does not have a frames while he's opening or closing so what they're gonna do is hit him with two water balloons to set up his HB properly and then time the flash bombs during the open and close and it worked out perfectly force' got the instant the guy was a huge pain before that consistent strat was discovered yeah more precarious ball jumps over lava this time instead of bottomless bits keep some variety tonic also getting the good here not I kill it is pretty much like execution for that kill one of the non-random things of the [Music] we'll be coming up on a sword man on our society now you remember I said one of the previous routes went sword man first but that was it's kind of not that great because hopefully you won't see it because there is a man if on this guy but he can go invincible for quite some time he does a spinning attack at you however orsa got this good patterns beginning and what he's gonna do is manipulate sword man to always face the corner and he won't do his spinning invincible attack when he's in the corner and facing it so it went super well for him but the only time fire slash is gonna be relevant is the opener which of course tonic got someone had to get the fire slash but now he can get him in the corner all right [Music] [Applause] already moving on to the eighth robot masters search man search man one is a nice short little rush bike section for the most part keep an eye out for search man 2 because it's one of the greatest sections in the entire game he's got super good music as well as does the whole game of course [Music] do you think this is the last showing of rush bites you're gonna miss that guy [Music] that is a good idea yeah search man - you're gonna see a ton of different weapon usage here it is tricky and of course this jumps over spikes coming up yeah horses somehow missed the door there on his ball jumps well see it [Music] as you can see they're even doing money jumps over spikes just got to get that extra slide in it's really just the satisfying part of the game to play okay we're already at search man on horses side I speak to flame sword or flame sword depending on what character you are and he's he's not that bad but he can disappear into three bushes sometimes and it wastes some time plus even guessed wrong but overall he's somehow not on the worst receiving nose for the wiliest a trees no bushes for [Applause] [Laughter] search man the final weapon is homing sniper it's not going to get that much use other than for Astro man's free fight coming up later [Applause] all right eight robots down for both of them now wily stage is pretty tricky they also feature some auto scrollers immediately here we got another fast snowboard autoscroller the second half is really tricky movement as well this is really but if you want to catch up on [Applause] [Music] [Music] Collins really see a lot of Thunder claw usage here over gaps it's a scary second section but he made it through now add it to me know a lovely boss it's a good one he's weak too Mega Ball now you can see is real section up there but what they're gonna be doing is they got to destroy all four sections to make the next one come quicker so it's going pretty well so far we will introduce a fake one which has a different attack at the end here I learned really well for so wait well hey it's a cool boss that's my whole summer we're talking with a nice mega ball jump up to hit him directly he's got him down to the beginning a wily - is a really tough climb a bunch of enemies everywhere fell down a little bit but good recovery of course moving on to the final autoscroller of the game and uh throwback to tangu main stage I suppose you can get your partners and all in this one however it is important there is some there's something they need to do by the end of this hopefully they'll be able to do it your partners in all don't matter because you're not going to be fighting the boss with them so you basically just want to get through to the end got $150 from Tokyo men taking parts and final fantasy 6 I cannot move in my height let's get the 100% for final fantasy 6 run will be insanely worth it amazing Beach so far and what a height estimate free run yesterday I love this tweak every year and $100 from the completionist pay s QT q the conclusion is here wanting to send all of my good vibes to all the runners so excited to see the love and passion for video games much love specifically to all of the megaman runner you guys are incredible keep alert let's wait [Music] $200 food jacked up what better time than the mega man walked to donate towards having my other favorite robot task by destroys for Less I could see horses hanging out at low health here and he's dead no but thankfully that works you forward throughout the stage it saves quite a bit of time to die there at the end it just skips a whole bunch of scrolling forward but your reward is blinking everybody's favorite boss in the universe it's just random Astro crushes his weakness so you can't really there's not much to screw up yourself most of the time but hopefully he plays nice you need him to open up his rings exactly what did not happened or so immediately the tail you can do no damage to the boss when I'd open you're just sorry try again oh no alright so he has killed the tail thankfully yes this boss has four different attacks depending on which one you get which opening you can do between zero and three hits and it's just you just hope it's special now see he just gave words of the pattern that he wanted immediately and photonic also got it where he opens up everything at once and he's just caught up on biking alone there's no way I would have rather had this than the biking come back oh my goodness it's okay though the next stage test of skill it's I think it's the hardest stage in the game all of it and it features a mini-boss which is also extremely difficult so just real tough movement coming up [Music] great stuff from both of them no accidents there in the first half [Music] tonight Forte is the mini-boss of this stage and a lot like duo he takes pretty much the same damage from everything so your goal is to just keep him in his invincibility frames as much as possible and you might get away with a few charge Buster shots for some extra damage but as long as you're damaging him it'll help a bit so they're gonna be using a flash bomb sometimes you might even see some a stroke rush and one of the real fun features of this boss is you want to kill them as far to the right as possible on the screen because he has a really slow animation after he dies of going to his cutscene spot [Music] I'm pretty biased towards this one personally I think I gotta side with you so there's nothing bad about seven at all oh look at this [Applause] so after forte tonic is pulled ahead by about a second but it got some more tricky movement towards the end of the stage where horses doing some crazy stuff alright thankfully they both made it through and now Green devil of course there's luck involved on this guy now it does it is up to you to to cycle this you whenever he's vulnerable you can always to cycle him but what he does between the two cycles can waste differing amounts of time hopefully he reappears immediately however he can also do one to four waves across the room it's really if they're on the wrong pick so then they can get almost anything you know tonic got the classic yellow devil pattern from him and orsa just got three waves that's a pretty big swing in time right there tonic is just pleased beyond belief right now at this game all right well you can see they both executed the two cycle perfectly all right so final stage coming up eatery fights Wiley a whole bunch of randomness wouldn't have it any other way [Music] but you do get to see some new stuff since there were two bosses that had to be beaten with buster in this run they're a little different also tangu man in particular is harder because you have extra weapons to switch through night onyx gonna head to sword man first the route through here doesn't really matter too much [Music] what's the wall for in this time definitely want to do sword man first though if you can so you're gonna take damage it'll be nice to get some help back all right you went to the corner for both of them that's good [Applause] right Aquaman same thing is before the only like random thing against him is he'll land on you sometimes kind of like he just did bits on it really just affects your help a little bit thankfully if you didn't even notice the health pickups in this game don't even stop the game to refill so it doesn't cost time yeah sure here is $50 from Devin Williams we must recover all the doctors immediately with megaman long time watcher first-time donor megaman [Applause] everyone loves that guy oh now grenade man is also a different fight because you have his thunder call weakness which does do more damage from him directly but you can also deflect his flash bombs at him which does the same damage as hitting him directly but it's cool i ston I got the kill before the second part so saves a little bit of time now horse is going for tangu man which extremely good Tengu man fights what the patterns he was given both getting clowned on now there's the old carnival Sandra donated $10 no rush turns into a bike where is this game bid all my life best near the elevator to the next section was donated $5 the best part about being the only person in the office is access to the big projector Mega Man never looked so good and you know I think we might know why puggles is the only one in the office because crowbar donated $25 I stayed up too late last night watching gdq and slept through my alarm this morning Oh No but watching all the amazing runs today has been an excellent use of my impromptu sick day oh yeah just don't tell my mom I Frost man goes down easy once again and all this left is the wily machine and capsule up the elevators now these are some some tricky fights surprisingly not too much randomness to them in terms how long it takes after the whole rest of the game against this first phase these weak to water balloon and flame sword they're gonna probably gonna choose flame sword get up in his face you just hit him a bunch you can also see the properties of a stroke rush which you might have noticed earlier you're invincible when you use it at the beginning from certain attacks from the machine they'll use that if they're feeling like it doooo saves the day I always knew he would nice the machine has a bunch of different attacks you can see time to use the a stroke rush to avoid that one you just want to keep them in invincibility frames as much as possible and sword also does take out his mouth laser that spawns every once in a while so it's definitely the weapon of choice here all right it's machine down for both all that's left is capsule small difference between them it's kind of similar to the megaman 7 capsule that you saw earlier but I'd call it an easier version however it's not that easy the dude has a lot of help what they're gonna do is hit him with flash bomb and if necessary they will jump up to him with flash bomb and other than that it's just dodging attacks and hitting them every time he appears it's got some intense music to it can I just want to let him finish it the game it's time for tonic in time for Ursula right after would not have been any closer holy moley let's give a hand to Orson cleartonic for that absolutely incredible race differences all the randomness and they were seconds apart that was absolutely terrible yeah yeah they both got sub 51 30 which is an incredible time for anybody at this game what about as well as it could I'm glad liking was important and of course you get the anime ending as a reward yeah that was a really good race a lot of fun oh god that race could not have been any cooler five silver games done quick 2018 my name is
