Look at this huge throat box. -Oh my God. -Wow! We are at the Jamala Wildlife Lodge. We will interact with cheetahs here. You will get this wildlife lodge in Australia's capital Canberra. Ooh, everything is quite Africa themed. Yeah. Wow! Shark is coming. In this restaurant, this is the table where you sit at And on the side, there are big sharks in the aquarium. This is the map of the wildlife lodge and it is a huge area. They have made it into a kind of zoo. But there are different places to stay at in this zoo. We will meet the cheetahs at 2.20 pm. And our room will be here among the giraffe tree houses. So, the giraffes can literally come to our room and our balcony. So we have some time to see a bit of the zoo before the cheetah encounter starts. -Oh. -Look at this. Hello, you're just chilling. How they're just relaxing. They seem so lazy. Can't even relax without being called lazy, huh? Babe, you annoyed him. *Who disturbs me? Are you daft?* And suddenly, I'm an animal photographer. I can see the little teeth even. Wow. A good thing in this zoo is that most of the enclosures to house the animals are spacious compared to other zoos, especially those in cities. Marmoset monkeys. I'm seeing this type of monkey for the first time. And right ahead is the Pygmy marmoset monkey. Which is the smallest monkey in the world. It's found only here. -It is tiny. -It is really. -It's like a mouse or something. -Yeah, like a mouse. Wow! So this bear we saw was not a normal bear, it was a Malay Sun Bear. It is the smallest bear among all bear species. Oh my God, he had skin cancer. -This one? -Yeah. Oh. So they treated this bear with radioactive therapy, which is often used for treating people with cancer. So far, I have been to many zoos. But this zoo is quite special. Because of the kinds of animals, they have here, I haven't seen them in any other zoo. There were so many animals that I had never seen before didn't even know their names. There are many vulnerable and endangered animals in this zoo. Like the tiger, it is not a normal tiger, it is a Sumatran tiger. It is the smallest tiger species. He looks tired of life. Now look at this. This is a tree kangaroo, which is found only in Papua New Guinea. It's an endangered animal. I hadn't heard of it before. And today we're seeing it. A peacock is resting in the enclosure of this tree kangaroo. This is our hotel room. These are the hotel rooms. We can't see giraffes now, but we can see llamas. Because we'll walk from here and the giraffes will be on the other side. Let's see. Is it open? I mean, we open it, right? Okay, close it again so the llamas don't escape. Let's go to the llama. Wow, it looks really nice. Let's go to the llamas first. There's deer as well, actually. Llamas and deer and some birds running there, I see. -There's deer? -and some birds running there, I see. Yeah, some kind of white deer I think. With the llamas, there are less precautions you can just walk in but you might get spat on. Spat on? -Yeah. -Why? Because they sometimes spit right? -Really? -Yeah. Did you see the eyes he made -when he saw you? -Yeah. Like it was sheer horror. Treehouse number 5. Here it is. Wow! Looks nice. What an amazing room. This way is the place for the giraffes to visit. We can feed them from the balcony. There is a giraffe in the bathroom as well. In the shower area. And as soon as we came out of the balcony the giraffes came here. Wow! Look at their size, they are huge! we have to stand upright on the balcony to reach the level of their head. They are checking our balcony if there is food or not. There's no food now. Food will be here in some time. Don't worry. They feed them at 3.30 pm. The guides will come with the food then. And we can feed them out of our hands. They are right in front of us to get some food. But we still don't have their food. The grass and other stuff that's already here they are eating those now. Look at the up close of its mouth. Babe, that's too much. We have carrots to feed them. They come here because the carrots are tastier than the leaves. Oh, my God, the tongue. I can feel the breathing. Same. -Wow. -Yummy. Another tongue. Oh, Another carrot. There you go, wow! This beautiful deer is eating grass. They seem like they want to be touched. Oh! He is peeing. They seem like they want to be touched. He just peed. As soon as he came near me. So now we have the whole zoo basically to ourselves. All the guests have left. You can see the animals are out more. It's very peaceful. There's a peacock strolling along. This is a good thing about this zoo when all the guests leave and only the people staying in the hotel remain they can explore the zoo. -It's quite an exclusive feeling. -Yeah. Oh, the lions are having a nap. In this wildlife lodge, there are some rooms, in which, the lions can come up to you, And there's a glass wall, and the lions rest just beside the room. So not only with giraffes, you have the option to stay with the lions, cheetahs, and even with bears. Here, each room is special. So we just had breakfast and this is where the lion would have been if it had come. You can't force animals to do anything. So if the lion doesn't show up -and that's okay. -Yeah. It's 9 in the morning, friends, we had breakfast and the zoo is not open to outsiders yet. So the guests staying at the hotel can easily check out the animals in the zoo. And this is a great opportunity to see the other animals when there are no other guests. It feels like the whole zoo is exclusively for us. What is that? You hear a lot of interesting noises here. Let's have a look if we can find out who is making that noise. We are very close to it. Sounds like something is hilarious, right? Yeah. -It is the monkeys. -Yeah. Which ones? The other ones, I think. Okay, it's not the monkeys, actually. Yeah. Oh! -Oh, it's the other monkeys. -It is the monkeys, -but the different kind. -Not these monkeys. -but the different kind. Not these monkeys. It's these monkeys. They are so loud. How loud can they be? If I was sleeping next to them, That sound is super loud. It's the Siamangs monkeys. It really feels like it's It looks like it's about the size of their head. Yeah, no wonder. It seems like it comes out of a speaker or something. Built-in boom box. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, vocalizations are amplified carrying the sound for up to 3 kilometres. At sunrise... Oh my gosh! Oh my God! The throat box that you see under the face look at how big it is! Oh my God! Throat sac! Here you can see their throat sac, how big it is! It's almost like a speaker! Inbuilt speaker! This is another open area of the giraffe enclosure. Our rooms are there and the giraffes can come here as well. It is a huge area. It goes all the way back there. There are zebras as well. But these zebras never come to our place. Babe, he's lock-picking. He's drinking water, I think. I think he's lock-picking. He's almost cracked it. Can you guess which animal this is? It is found only in Indian regions. The correct answer is Blackbuck. It falls between the categories of vulnerable and endangered, so you can consider it quite endangered. In 1975, the population in Nepal had been reduced to just 9. Nine of these, and then they managed to get it up to 200. Wow! You might be wondering why is a dog kept here? This is an Australian dog. It is called a Dingo. The wild dogs of this area. There's one over there. Dingoes do not bark, they howl. The evolution of the dingoes actually started from the Indian wolves 6,000 years ago. They were introduced to Australia. Now, they have become the native animals of this area. And as you must have read in the books they are hunted for their horn because of this, their population is so endangered. They fall into the category of endangered animals because people think that the horn is some kind of a medicine that can treat fever or cancer. And because of such superstitions this animal is endangered. There are some walk-in enclosures too. We can go inside to see the Alligators and Wombats. And we have to close this gate behind us. There are two doors so that the animals don't escape. Because the animals are in the open here, like this Wallaby And there is a kangaroo. Go through catch cage. What is a catch cage? Yeah, we have to pull -No, babe. -instead of push. It's a safety barrier. Oh, look how close it is. It may bite me. That's a wombat. Did you see it already? Oh, he's so close. This wombat looks like a Pokémon. Another special thing about them is that their potty looks like this. They are like proper cubes. Very unique. I don't have any food. Eat the leaves. I'll break a leaf for you If you need a little help. Here's a leaf. Don't you want to eat this leaf? He's taking it? He does not want my leaf. I'm gonna put it in his mouth He still rejected it. Maybe he wants the small delicate one. -Really? -I don't know. It's the same I think. Now that he's eaten one, he wants more. Give it to him. Can I touch it? Oh yeah, it likes to be touched it seems. Actually now seeing the cheetah, I kind of forgot how big they are. I kind of thought they would be like two-thirds of what they are. I thought they were half the size of a man. It's time to meet the cheetah. It seems like it's waiting for us. We're checking out them and they're checking us out. Yeah. There are a few safety rules, actually, when you want to meet the cheetahs. Like, no dangly stuff on the clothes because they might play with it. You cannot hang the jacket like this. Exactly! I'm gonna take off my big hat. No strong perfumes. -And apparently, they purr also. -Really? Yeah, like cats. Just like cats, you know. It seems like it's guarding something. There's some king waiting there and the cheetahs are the guards for it. They're going around like security guards. Can you hear that purring? Oh my god, was that a purr? Really? Can you hear that rumbling noise? -Oh, that's... -It's purring. I just need you to step through this one for me. Step through this, please. Umm, my shoes are not waterproof. That's okay. I was saying you would dunk the bottom of them in. -Yeah, that's fine. -Okay. I have with me, friends, the world's fastest animal. A cheetah! This cheetah can run at a speed of 110 km/h. Sound is crazy. The black lines under the eyes improve the cheetah's eyesight because it helps avoid the glare from the sun. This is why while playing American football and baseball some players paint black lines under their eyes. Overall, it's not as dangerous as tigers and lions. That's why humans can come close to them and can touch them. Especially here at Jamala Wildlife Lodge, in Australia, Canberra. And like pet animals, they like to lick humans too. You do have to keep a lot of different things in mind. Like how to approach them. Always stand between the cheetahs and the zookeepers Because they know them so you do need to keep all of that in mind. They're still wild animals. It was very restricted, you couldn't touch everything. You couldn't just run around. They called us very carefully they showed us where to walk and sit And then you could rub the back of the animal within the specified area only. You couldn't go up from the shoulder or down from the back. Yeah, I mean... And you can't creep up from the other side. It's in a very controlled setting, so it felt very safe. Yeah, basically. Do you like it if a stranger does this to you? -No, I don't. -This? No. So, they don't like it either. Yeah. And you know how it is when you pet your cat's belly. All of a sudden, you know, it will scratch you, -and we don't want that. -I know.
