Meet the New BOT That Can Beat SSLs in Rocket League

has rocket League AI finally reached the level of SuperSonic Legend well today in this video I'm excited to feature a developer who is trying to make that happen this is Novell and his machine learning bot Seer alright Novelle if you're gonna claim to have the next best bot this is the bar you have to be next though are you confident I think so yeah okay so this is Seer this is a machine learning bot like next though yes exactly it how long have you been working on it all started maybe a year ago it was like the final project for my study during my Master's uses like so I worked about six months on it for my first version but afterwards I didn't stop and I continued to improve it and now we are here now offhand what would you say is the biggest difference you think between Seer version 4 and next or I'll be seeing it right now what is it doing the dribbling in circles yeah so the taunting is there a taunt feature in this spot or it's not taunting I think just think it's wasting a bit of time and it's trying to maybe get a better position okay yeah so serious aware of the game time so sometimes things might look a bit weird okay so it's aware of the game time and it'll make choices based on that yeah exactly it's also aware of the score so it's like I'm up by a couple goals I'm gonna go back and boost and try again and there let's go back get some boost don't try this Lake which probably will end up in my goal anyway oh okay so did we just see a fake like next of thought there would be a flick but there was but there wasn't yeah okay that was dirty all right so next though has yet to even score a goal here yeah this is so this is next though the top bought in Rocky League I I know there's next to a plus people are gonna bring up but uh despite the click that you see next no plus is just slightly better it's not an SSL bot um I think we've proven here to here can take on next though now there could be a little controversy around this though as I have seen people say on the arrowbot Discord that you have designed the spot specifically to beat next though so so they're basically claiming that I specifically created a bot to be next so but otherwise it's not really that good so you can imagine that of course when I train the bot it trains against like itself so it plays other Bots and one thing you could do is you let it play against nexo so it's very good against nexo but it's not very good against human or against any other Bots and yeah I didn't do this so this year was only so trained only using self-play which means it only played against itself right so it should also perform well against other people on other Bots right I guess we're gonna find that out here so it's beaten next though it definitely um has some moves that nexo cannot counter it seems like but if you've only trained it against next though there should be some detriment on the uh if a human plays it for example yeah exactly yeah well next they're putting up zero I didn't expect that that is that is crazy oh he's gonna make me a liar oh no maybe I can talk a bit of what just happened yeah so since here is aware of the game time and not the score sir kind of knows that the game is always over and it doesn't really matter what it's doing so it it just stops playing it was funny because he was like yeah I sure have at it but get your goal and he still didn't even get it all right I guess we move on to human players and we see what rank see your version 4 actually is all right Adam yeah this is Seer the next generation of machine learning bot what kind of level is it okay well um before coming here to see you it uh it did a number on next though this should be interesting what so one thing to mention here serious not really used to playing on octane hitbox players so okay so I should have an advantage but let's see how to go with so Sierra has specifically trained against octanes all the time so there might be a slight advantage to the uh Dominus I'm not seeing the advantage you know what the advantages of the Dominus hitbox you look cooler while you lose oh that's cool always that's always a priority Snapchat maybe I can win a kickoff it's delaying it's kickoffs types I see what it's doing now okay I'll do that there we go okay now what oh we can aerial okay I mean yeah winning the kickoff only just delays your pain it feels like it does yeah I didn't want to tell you it's at the start but nexto never scored a goal on it I I can see why to be honest so if you score a goal you're officially better than that stuff that's true that is the bar that we've said okay that's that's a reasonable is there like a switch you can like click to make it champ level is there a switch I can flick to make you chap level wow I see what that's just in my name isn't it that's cool that was a cool shot simple but I've never seen this before to be honest you've never seen this Novella I've never seen this before no next I would not do that no that was cool it's insane I've not even hit 100 points uh you pointed that out not me just somewhere clearing that one yeah self-appreciating human I've had Commodores calling me difference is greater than five also just doesn't have a lot of experience with it just always knows it wins yeah yeah it's saving energy for the next the next game that's smart it's like I don't need look and play other game modes um so yes here can only play one one and it's mainly due to the choice of the networks like neural networks you're using yeah you're actually doing pretty well considering our champ player got destroyed here uh nice flick thanks you're actually keeping up with them so yeah I'm gonna beat them don't worry okay all right oh that's annoying yeah you don't over here you don't want to be here it just slowly interested it's not the position you want to be entire pump meals so so yeah I think Sierra is kind of developed its own version of the algebra bomb just a very slow one a very slow version yeah I see so it's smarter one come out here get back oh you almost had him the demo would have been good yeah he's not next to him so it's possible the demos here but it's a bit harder than demoing next time yeah was he jumping for the ball or jumping to avoid the demo there I think it was he was he was jumping to avoid the demo okay yeah yeah I think it's yeah another extra movies that's cool already yeah welcome to Seer uh your worst nightmare I'm actually getting destroyed yeah what's going on here no no we saw running now you really want to read the I'm sorry for myself that I had to play against this well I think it's pretty clear Seer was not designed to just beat nexto in fact it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Neville has managed to create a supersonic Legend level 1v1 bot we ran some more matches against the SSL to make sure it wasn't just a flute and though the games were more even see her continued to provide a good challenge for Ballad who eventually did manage to win one at the end does that mean you would have to be in SSL to beat this AI well no you see accurately ranking a bot is kind of an unexact science as almost every bot is going to have exploitable Tendencies and seniors no different not to mention different play Styles can play a role as some players will be harder for a bot than others to demonstrate this more I brought in my buddy Palmetto a gc1 player that has spent a lot of time playing against nexto in the past despite his rank it only took him until about halfway through the game before he had figured out some of Sierra's weaknesses and started using them to his Advantage thus by the way of bumps speed flip Corner kickoffs and a little bit of luck he managed to keep the score close it was the kind of game that frustrates a bot maker as they wonder how a gc1 is beating a bot that can take down an SSL with sear malfunctioning or was plumato's playstyle just the perfect counter to the box it's hard to say but after watching Palmetto put in the zero second winner Neville now knows that despite the SSL success there's still some improvements to be made for version 5. if you guys enjoyed
