[Music] hey guys good morning my name is you all Guerra I'm community service say here with the Tanner medley Police Department I'm a member of the social media unit along with three other members which you haven't yet met but you will right now I'm in front of the station this is my unit [Music] we have our equipment here in the car and we're gonna head out to the substation we're gonna meet officer loggers out there and then jump in his vehicle to see what a regular ride-along is like hey guys we're here at the substation now with officer Lagos everyone go ahead and present yourself to all the viewers I'm officer Lagos I'm officer here on patrol with the Metis Police Department I've been here for four years in about a month I'll be making my four year anniversary today what we're gonna be doing is we're gonna be doing a ride-along with with you guys so you guys could take a look at what we do here at the medic please Department day in and day out hopefully today we have a very interesting day you guys will get a good look at what we do here and you'll get an inside look at what it's like to be a patrol officer right now we're here at the our substation we share our substation with the miami-dade Fire Rescue number 46 that's why you see a fire truck there but interestingly enough our substation is back here it's very small can we take a look yeah let's go yeah it's just some big fire trucks over here we don't know you don't actually go inside the ways to set up is that it's divided so that we have our or a small space we don't actually come in here take a bathroom break or you know catch up on a quick report we have a small kitchen here so like I said for a lunch break or anything we come in here we take a quick break and we eat do we have to do one then we hit the road again but this is our substation what is it what is this door over here is that the secret so Anastasia this takes us into a lot of dimension just kidding this is actually the door connects to a fire station get something from them whites worse off you could just go in there and get what we need to get typically we don't we don't really use that door all right let's jump in your car and let's hit the road [Music] all right so now we're in the patrol car can you let us know what's special what do you have what equipment you have in here that helps you do your jobs so this this right here is a 2018 ford police interceptor video in other words the Ford Explorer with the police package this one in particular is a 2018 it's actually a pretty new car it's my patrol vehicle it's assigned to me I take this car oh maybe date so it's an awesome vehicle pretty much looking around it's exactly what you need to conduct your everyday duties right so I have my laptop I have my radio I have my control box that's down here which is what I control lights this is my office this is what I sit in on a day-to-day basis for for 10 hours a day so I try to make this as comfortable as I can for me you're wondering about the little stuffed animal okay yes I'm sure I'm sure we're gonna get questions about that that is what's your friend over there yep that's my companion actually something that's a little bit more enough to me it's a little sentimental as my son's a stuffed animal and he gave it to me so other than that we're gonna hit the road hopefully we'll have some fun today and you guys will have a good look at what it's like to be a patrol officer here at autonomy all right [Music] as you can tell this vehicle in front of us has their license plate wouldn't say obscured for more of destroyed or maybe there's paint on top of it officer logos the society he's you know nineteen this vehicle which means he's gonna pull the vehicle over nineteen is the code that we use for whenever we're gonna pull a vehicle over he'll go on the radio and the hosted in nineteen which is the signification on the vehicle itself [Music] so what are we okay so this gentleman is his tag it appears as you know due to a construction or whatever it seems like some other coating under life they came up so it makes it hard to read I spoke to him after I spoke to him he told me he was aware that the license plate is Baden in a sense but if everything checks out if it seems that you know there's nothing no ill intent if you didn't purposely do that then don't go ahead and get in warning however we're not only stopping him for a license plate we were stopping somebody we also look for other infractions right so as I was saying earlier about the commercial vehicles since he's driving a commercial vehicle he has to comply with certain guidelines so we're gonna make sure go quick walk around the vehicle make sure that the vehicle doesn't have any sort of safety violations that could endanger himself or somebody else if everything checks out okay then this gentleman's gonna get a warning and he'll be a lot to continue to us Intel officer Lagos is now doing the walk around making sure the vehicle is it is fine things that it does need to comply one big thing about being on patrol is high visibility stop vehicle in a high traffic area this high visibility stop here lets everybody else see that we are a force in traffic and future crimes happen I cut my word I gave I gave him a warning I did a quick Walker on his vehicle everything seems to be good operating condition his headlights were working everything he had the fire extinguisher everything that he's required to have by the Florida Department of Transportation he got it so for that reason we got a warning today all right so I was telling the viewers that a big part of patrol is enforcing traffic but it's also high visibility can you comment on the high visibility part of patrol with high visibility part of the patrolling as to the turquine apartment deterring crime is to be visible we go out there and go through all the back rolls the rowsdower I'm very frequent to make sure that the businesses know that we're out there protecting them serving them as cliche as it sounds but it really is what our job entails so by us being visible whether it's all walking on foot bicycles just driving around if we're visible the bad guy bad person knows that we're out there and we're keeping an eye on everything can we catch everything no but we do our best effort to deter the crime so that is the that's the reason why we're visible that's the reason why we're all constantly driving we drive you know depends some sometimes we could drive 100 miles a day sometimes I could drive less than that but we're out there circling as much as we can just to know that people know that we're out here we're watching it we're here to help them out all right can you give us a rundown of the equipment you have here on your boat absolutely so it looks like I have a lot and a sense I do all those equipment together that I have on my belt weighs about 25 or 30 pounds but every single thing that Holloman votes serves a purpose and everybody uses different configurations on what they have on the boat and how they have it on the boat what this is what I use so we start from from your right my left on around a starting first off what I have here is our taser taser obviously it's a non-lethal option in case you got to taste somebody that's resisting or not complying with us we'll use the Taser all the means that we tried to use don't work after that what I have is a tourniquet now if you haven't heard about a tourniquet this is not some piece of equipment to have this can stop and control severe bleeding that's its arterial bleeding that could be life-threatening it's good to have on us because god forbid the day ever comes where we have to use this and we get hurt or somebody else gets hurt at least we have a life-saving tool on our boat and that's what that's what this is but after that I have my radio radio again like I said this tool used to communicate this pretty much are our lifesaver just it's just as important as everything else that we have an involved this is what we use to communicate with one another and disabilities to communicate it at this patch after that I have a flashlight this is just a regular flashlight with different modes and work day shift but it's necessary nonetheless because we may be going into a dark warehouse or somewhere where lighting is not optimal and we taught this so it's very a very important tool as well after that I have my cups obviously the goal because when those come out are you gonna be in trouble but we also use possible other reasons we use them as restraints in case we need to transport somebody that needs medical attention or anything and they're being combative or whatever we use these as restraints just because you get these put on on someone doesn't mean that they're necessarily going to jail moving along after that I have my expandable baton - Patong pretty much the way of sports this with friction so if I swing it out then that extends it and it takes up less space on the ball this serves as again a non-lethal weapon if I need to strike somebody in a area where I'm not gonna severely hurt them so that they can comply then this is what we'll use apart from the Taser the pepper spray we also have this helped facilitate compliance after - my firearm my firearm obviously I can't I can't bring it out but it's a Glock 17 nine-millimeter and the holster looks a little funny and the reason why it it's a little wider in this area is because it has a light attached to it that's attached to the gun so if you need to clear your building or whatever it is that we need to use and darkness will require you how are gone we can free up our our free hand and we can also use the light on the gun to help visualize everything else in a better way and last but not least we have our magazines these magazines again if we ever need to use more than the rounds that we already have you know hang on then we have two more magazines to help provide us with more firepower in a sense and to help eliminate whatever it is that we need to eliminate that wraps it up that's my thought all right sounds good let's get back in the vehicle and let's see [Music] : 18 1 1 1 3 9 0 s 1 0 Street on a temporary visa generators in the car [Music] all right so you guys may be wondering why we just pulled over this vehicle and the reason why is we were actually driving on this road to another location and as we're coming through the village he threw himself out and we almost collided so clearly he was not paying attention and that's that's why we pulled them over right now okay so this gentleman that we have stopped right now you stop the post he did have one the stop sign perceived but we almost crashed into him just because he came out a little bit farther he should have and he didn't see us so it seems like his driving record it's not bad so far as his driving record and everything else checks all of him I'm just gonna give a warning because that particular intersection there is a a tree that obstructs the view a bit so it's understandable but nonetheless it could have been a bad accident especially involving one of us luckily we didn't crash or collide with the other vehicle as you guys can tell officer Lagos is in a capable warning regarding this this traffic stop yeah well like I was like I don't mentioned earlier one of the things with traffic is that fairly often you may encounter one situation and it may transpire into something else and this particular circumstances gentlemen it's more than marijuana without speaking to him that the order of marijuana coming from his cart so I asked him he was honest with me and he handed me what is this little gold cart of plastic container inside his plastic container there's marijuana in here it's not a lot so here in miami-dade County a resolution was passed about a year or two ago where you can simply cite someone for possession of marijuana so long as it's only 20 grams in this case I could just look at a notice below 20 grams so what we're gonna do is this is gonna get impounded okay we're gonna physically see we're up and we're gonna impound the via our our department well the generalization was a civil citation like I explained earlier my mini county possum ordinance where if there's a certain amount of marijuana possession of you were eligible to receive a civil citation now this is all at the discretion of the officer that conducts the interaction with you may or may not go that way but in any case here it's a hundred dollar fine if you choose to you're giving the civil citation all you have to do is pay $100 you don't get to keep your marijuana the marijuana gets taken away and impounded but that way it reduces the amount of arrest that I made for minor marijuana infections all right so now we're gonna be heading back to the station and there you'll finish up the paperwork and we'll impound the actual marijuana right okay so we're back at the station now because this is where we do our impounding for anything that we do confiscate from people we have to empower if it's related to a crime or anything right now after the labs in his car he's already done with the report stating that we made contact with the person due to a traffic infraction and then once we came in contact with the person they did smell their car that smelled like marijuana and and they did admit to having marijuana so we did confiscate that and now we're gonna come inside to the holding cells where we have our impound lot we'll take you to the process to you guys to see what what it's like I guess empower you guess I'm a general idea of what what what we do behind the scenes once after it we really impound it yeah once we leave the scene and everything and we have stuff that we need to import into our property room you guys have a general idea of what happens behind the scenes we're gonna go into the property room slash holding facility since our departments a little bit smaller than the most obviously bigger departments or a lot more manpower we take it upon ourselves to impound the property we don't have somebody I will go and take it for us so we share our holding facility inside of a holding facility to impound property now as you can see here is all gated and secured upon that prisoners property we just do it right down in there and we don't have to go from one one point to another and it saves time and it's more efficient for going here in store particularly to our holding facility in our area I see a lot of the cameras this is to see the inmates yeah this is so we can keep an eye on inmates just in case on many reasons but one of the reasons is also a safety right so we don't want them to to get hurt while they're in here mmm Waterfalls is the case love you've ever seen this this year these are our lockers now the unique thing about these lockers is that they're not just like combination lockers what it is is for example our to put this property in here we're toss it in here I will press this tab here once Uptown goes pushed in there is no access to this locker once was pushed in now these are all open what I can't really show you when I impound once this is pushed in there is no way to open this off we don't have access to the other side we need people that have act as authorized personnel that are in charge of everything that's proper you know there's that one like a freezer that one with school does that one that's right here this is for DNA so we need to refrigerate a specimen we go ahead and do so and then these are kept at a certain temperature this one here there's something in there but this is what it looks like these are kept at a certain temperature to maintain that integrity now Islam just putting out a proper easy document we took it from where was taken from what exactly was taken and where was taking to so okay in case the property ever gets removed from this property room and it gets to take it somewhere there has to be a teen of custody meaning that there has to be a track record of what was taken from where so when y out pretty much that way if something ever comes up regarding the case or you know something ever happens where the property was missing you more or less know where it ended up why it ended up there and what happened so that's the reason why because missing property is not a good thing also reason why we do these things paperwork baby paper well that's that's a lot of police work is paperwork well officer Lagos is doing the paperwork and finishing up on the paperwork for the impound we're gonna go ahead and take a look I grabbed the the key to the cells we're gonna have to take a look inside of the rooms themselves starting here with the interview room and with this little button here you can actually start recording all the conversations some of the way so this is a juvenile holding facility and the interview room you can tell has a desk with chairs it's being recorded through the camera and it has audio installed where record everything that's being set as well so these are the holding cells over here they also have the little trays there for the people work we're gonna go ahead and open them see what uh what's inside this is a holding cell for the prisoners as you can tell as a baton here the bigger one [Music] [Applause] [Music] so can you give us a rundown on what it is you do as a supervisor regarding the impound of this property or what it is that you're actually looking for when your officers are doing the report pretty much what I'm looking for us to make sure that I mean in this case is a civil citation so I'm pretty much making sure that it does meet the elements for civil citations to be sure down and I also double-check to make sure all the paperwork is pretty much completely done and then I sign up with the property we see and I want to complete co-op and since they don't report and I got it going I'm going to check it and make sure they're pretty much everything is detailed and submit it up and cool [Music] none deal all right guys so this about wraps it up you guys saw how we went on patrol and took a traffic stop and they turned into something we have to impound let's hear some last words for now from officer Lagos because he has promises more ride-along he's working a future but as you guys saw today wasn't the business of days but we made the most of it and that's supposed to show that police work isn't always running from call to call it involves a lot of paperwork it was a core activity but it was great enjoyed truly having being important front of the camera I guess I'm not nothing a celebrity but it was great to have you guys with us we hope to see in the future and follow us on Instagram follow us on Twitter and what else do we have well insert we're on Twitter for now and then we're looking into starting a Facebook and then maybe here too yeah alright guys see you next time did you say you're gonna be the next Nick and I'm not gonna be a next name shall open it [Music]
