so man Sammy Hagar here on another rocks and road road trip this time we're headed up to Jerome Arizona that's a crazy [ __ ] I ever heard wavin welcome to Triple D [Music] here we go [Applause] I've been all over the world across the country from coast to coast and believe me every town has its own rhythm and a story to tell I'm Sammy Hagar I'm gonna take you on a rock and roll road trip whoa let's go it's Sammy Hagar's rock-and-roll road trip presented by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood Florida [Applause] all right now welcome to another rock or a road trip not today we are going to Jerome Arizona why are we going to Jerome Arizona we're gonna go meet Maynard Keenan now man is a genius singing from tool a perfect circle huh surfer he's got a winery grows his own grapes makes his own wine he's got a pizza truck he's got a restaurant I think he's possibly the mayor of Jerome and I heard we're gonna be cooking up some stuff made me do it so pizzas and stuff so who better to bring than my good buddy and airplane mechanic mr. Guy Fieri is in the house how's the house that the landing gear like okay I filled up your oil mr. head guard I've checked the brakes we're good to go this is gonna be a great time you got some pizza this welcome to another rock and roll road trip baby that's a mouthful all right here right now [Music] we just taken off for Jerome Arizona yeah and but he yeah we're just gonna do some super that's all folks we're just gonna do some stupid [ __ ] are you in guy can I can I can't get out and I didn't bring a parachute no you now guy do you have a thing that I do at the end of my show but what if right you got to know what you want honey that's fun BAM but guys so getting on this plane oh you were telling me about you and Hunter going on this fishing trip to Hawaii and you're doing this you're doing it it's like don't you travel enough in your life then so you even on your downtime you still travel I'm not I i limited matter of fact I was getting on your play limited I get I was getting and you're playing this morning my wife says where are you going I said well Sammy night she's okay you go on Sammy alright that's it I understand what you're doing now what I am very choosy about is where I spend my time and how it's done my time I've got a 22 year old son that really enjoys outdoor sports and if his interests and my interest if we have that opportunity that they're really working together then I've got to go take that opportunity because as you know with Aaron and with with all your kids it you get that limited window and then you're kind of on the peripheral yeah and I don't want to get it well I got it no it's awesome they used to young enough to have the energy to spend your extra time with your kids you know cuz next thing you know they're growing up keeping family the the center of my universe is always the most important I've noticed that about you something we have in common and you know we have a lot of things in common and one of them just being our lifestyle family business lifestyle kind of roll it all together how about stardom like it youth you became a TV star so fast are you okay with all the stardom you seem to be really comfortable in public to me you're one guys at a peoples guy but are you really comfortable with it and I think I'm like anybody that's in the spotlight there's the good times the bad times I don't really honestly I really try to not even think about it what was the great flavor flav don't believe the hype you know I tried out you seem that you're the same guy that when you came to see me before you one top shower I'm not talking to other food an extra Next Food Network sound before you one that you came to see me in a show in Santa Rosa and you seem like the same guy to me but your image is so it's you know it's I mean there's no mistake in guy feeling so what's the worst thing about being famous the the interruption of real life you know there's people that I admire I've never been into interrupting people you know but so I don't know everybody apps operates their own way and but you know what I'm gonna tell you this it's just so it doesn't sound like we're being complainers well no what's the best part of it Oh see bitsy issue okay what's the best part about being a rich famous celebrity what's the best part about it the opportunities the doors that it opens boom can I just say that I'm on Sammy Hagar's plane going I don't know where to go to what I don't know what but the fact that I get the invite and a bit you know and been a fan I tell people this all the time you don't know you know from being a growing up in a little small town in Northern California you know Sammy Hagar fan you want to hope that when you meet the man that the man is the real deal and that's what I've told everybody about - you're the real deal you I wasn't Sammy I was a chef with one restaurant and I met you and you treated me like I was the lead singer of the guy pity flavor topic well that's because you know me and my food man I like a chef as much as I like anything guitar player let me tell you so I'm just glad you haven't broke into the chefs started stealing my thunder oh god can I interest you in like a little Starbucks breakfast sandwiches oh sorry a little cold but you know what I'm good I'm gonna be good you go ahead and enjoy that oh I just brought I got a little I brought a little something along just something I whipped up this morning some salami wait a minute alliant peppers veggies do so much to the sandwich and to the bird oh that's simple cold cuts but they eat the peppers cover things whatever yeah you get it okay mmm all right Oh Bo can ever bring sandwich to a picnic what is it put it it never bring a knife to a gunfight never bring up never well I found it you know you know I found it like it's your time you're in a recipe you know you're gonna try this in the sweet spot I found it I've done it it's finished oh yeah Alvin's done it's called it's gonna be called space between Sammy Hagar and a circle space between it's all the stuff in between and I think about and feel in my life well I finally made a record about how I feel how you and I feel about money about greed about God about religion about bad guys and and and you know what the world how the world goes around so I'll play you one song I'm not even sure I can sing at 45,000 feet in elevation I'm not even remember this song but let me try you can't it's just like a playing acoustic it's a song called can't hang I'll explain it when I get my guitar let's see if this Jerome Arizona to hang out with Maynard Keenan of tool and perfect circle now Manor is a pretty private guy so to get an invite up here is a true honor Mount Etna Sicily parts of parts of Piedmont de Spain this is you know this is volcanic soil it's it so if you've seen it uh yeah you see these recognize that so on the side of the sill here this is uh this is a no-brainer and you have to pick early up here because of the temperature no adjust that we come out early we come out in March because you've got the weather yeah so it comes out so our growing season as long as we can sneak past the defrost we already have two months of growing on our on our books so then I've got that growing game there's no machinery company this is all this is all hand farmed it was all hand hand terrace so beautiful hand-picked everything so are you the winemaker now yeah well tim and i shared here teas yeah i've been making the wines by myself since 2009 that's that's awesome started to chat us before with a guy in the valley here at his facility but built my own open the doors kind of got going a small batch and 2009 but you know fully running endeavor but what else we got here you gonna say these are cluster yeah so these haven't been picked yet no these are these are about two three weeks away these are Nebbiolo there's a nebula cluster cornice can I break one off and and I will smack you and school I mean I just tasted great really good these aren't the best example of the clusters we have natural shatter here so that you have some of the flowering doesn't happen because the wind is so heavy here so you have a natural looseness to the clusters oh I didn't know it looks impressively that looks like it's pretty get a bottle of wine and music alright I don't want it for you woman [Music] hey listen to the beach it's a second car so you come on down to the hell is this thing you city a trucker you last year it happened yeah it's a talk I talked about it I waved my magic wand and chef Dirk appeared hey man you have any six-foot pizzas yeah I'll take a slice okay doesn't that kill you I'll take a slice so what do you do with this abuse driving around town or yeah we park at various locations it's kind of like trying to connect the the wine with the food experience here's that's going to be the the biggest thing is gonna really push the Arizona wine industry ahead is really connected cuisine let the restaurants and retailers understand what the potential is for truly understanding what local means producers well oh yeah we have three greenhouses that some open gardens and two orchards so now it's a lot of the stuff that's about him I wow this is not anything I expected just like this yeah totally he's got a statement like sacrifice oh that's what I'll sing that's listening to Black Sabbath and my underwear we do that too but we also grow things how long have you had the trek how long's been going to months roughly [Music] I know you're into food I know you're into wine and oh you did really well but you just seek keep going deeper and deeper I mean it's like you want to have restaurants beyond this you got that sort of a restaurant you know I think restaurants would be nice but I just think in terms of a local economy they have something that's both a draw as a tourist destination but also as an export right our wine is the export what you're coming to want to see the place where the wine is from and then have the cuisine rise to the level of the actual wines do you want to be mayor no I do not know you don't know nothing but to make but I'm not from here but we want guys like you to be mayors of our cities in our towns because somebody might think my son he's gonna run her off okay what do we got here besides a good-looking here that cross put in there I'm gonna take your word Louie that careful time where the mushrooms cover up boy now my sons are coming out of I got a guy growing my own mix and then basil from our players this one have the eggplant on it no I'm gonna do that next let's go yeah nice roomy mushroom yeah you know what I'm not both of them has that aftertaste of the psychedelic mushrooms you know why don't you when you I know you would have no idea but that tastes run what you're saying welcome worried already we got 45 notice we're not easy [Music] parole violation for the CSI all right manner I love with the free one let's get down in check [Music] no matter what music you do the thing that impresses me most is a singer lyricist is that you have a phrasing ability that is genius I don't know if you're a mathematician or it just comes natural or because it's because it's a music you're writing too but I'm every time I listen to your phrasing I've said no go listen to this guy it's like you get words that were critically and they're so oddball and you're saying something important usually we try to and then it's already in a strange time it's already in six eight or something or six seven nine or whatever and and like is that a struggle for you or is it just come natural to hound held you know I remember running cross-country it's in high school and everybody has their own breathing rhythms right you're supposed to just supposed to be in out right mm-hm but I found myself running for the four years of high school I actually had odd odd rhythms it wasn't just in how algorithm I was actually running to the to the steps so if you're going over hills or down hills or in chuckholes or whatever I would want it and my breath would follow those those rhythms which is weird it's really weird but you know then I would have like my next tapes of like you know some of my favorite songs is what like what were you listening to great CDC and it was a tool because they want no [ __ ] like that I know but you know you know odd times that your stuff there's some joining Mitchel stuff that's crazy oh yeah I know signatures she's she's brilliant with playing and singing to her rhythm and her lyrical yeah she's singing on the up she's singing on the down so and that was kind of like the running you're kind of kind of following some of that some of the Pink Floyd still have some King Crimson there you go so that there's a lot of those rhythms I think so I just naturally I write I write two things that are it's easier for me to write the things that are outside of 4/4 you just have a vision and everything seems to be art you seem to want elevate things you seem to want to do things in a really high level have you always been like that like were you an artist in school did you go to art school or did you went to arts but I was also in the military so you were in the military yeah get out of here what with in the army I went to a three years active three years inactive sir there we would go out ahead of the artillery batteries and put in a great coordinates for the batteries to pull in on [Music] dot org seven central right here on access TV I always wanted to do a you're such a unique performance you feel like if you have to express yourself different and in different bands or do you feel like you're just always going to be on some artistic you know I mean do you try to blow people's mind you just come up with I think a lot of what comes again it's all it's all like you know Jack Nicholson playing a part like when you put the makeup on you become you become apart you know you have to be if they have the skills to back it up but you know part of it is the is the presentation and putting on the character to become the character do really enjoy performing life I mean more than the creative process of writing learn are zooms I enjoy I enjoy all of them again it's puzzles and and every night different you think it's just gonna be the same show every night you know that you know better than that it's not that's you're in a different place you're a different person need a different meal different elevations so each night is a different puzzle that you're having to solve how to get yourself be on that mark when the gun goes off to to run right so you have to be ready to run and that's the that's a that's a challenge every night of course that challenge is much different than having the time or luxury to sit in your writing space and kind of take the time force yourself don't force yourself all the whatever it is you do to to get past that first verse frigging mathematician I'm telling you like some kind of a DaVinci or some [ __ ] I don't know about that come on no well I have a silly little thing that I do here call this or that No okay so mater this is this or that you're not allowed to wishy-washy on me which an Aries wouldn't do that anyway probably Pam Brunello or Barolo Varela Barolo or Bordeaux or alone that's a tool or a perfect circle yes I'm let you go on Ellen God or the devil yeah good one yeah Oh them well the problem is they're the same they're the same thing well the devils at sea-level now you know that yeah global warming music or wine again now I think the earth I think I don't think you can separate oh you're acting like a Pisces look at you yeah well who's your hero is there someone but you would just wish you would have met and got to spin like I got to spend with you a couple hours and um Joni Mitchell I think just because again because the way her went her her wiring is a little off she's one of those people who doesn't really get credit for it but the back end back when people were you know playing other people's compositions or had producers or engineers recording their music she was a person who was writing engineering repair your own album covers yes painting on album covers doing all our own writing and performing you know you could go back and look some of those older videos where it just looks like some hippy chick with her guitar on some talk show she's like you're like is that in 11 like she's playing all over the place the title adventures are goofy goosebumps yeah Joni Mitchell face yeah if she was sitting right here Maynard she's sitting right here right now what would you say to what would you just ask her a question would you like some wine white or red or Roseanne she would take white wine and some apples and cheese's yes thank you my friend say thank you really a pleasure I still don't know you though okay might have to do part two with this guy it's
