hey everyone my name is sam thanks for checking out this video if you guys didn't like it then subscribe bell notification give the video a thumbs up we are changing locations again today hi um honestly it's all of a sudden 20 degrees where i live and the floor is nice and cool so i'm sitting down because i don't not wear the color black apparently and i can't not wear long sleeves an awful lot apparently so that's just what we're doing um i also finally got to see an ophthalmologist who says apparently have chronic severe dry eye which was likely triggered or impacted by a variety of different factors and it's treatable just not uh curable so i'm not allowed to put my contact lenses in the next three months to see if the treatments will help it because contact lenses dry your eyes out so you're just gonna enjoy this beautiful ring light reflection in my eyes i have glasses i can't see otherwise okay let's just like go with that may may tbr i'm so freaking excited ama is my birthday month so like i always like treat myself may always seems to have some really good releases too like for the past several years there's always been at least like one of my most anticipated reads coming out um and then in may we also do the middle grade may event in the tbr and beyond group for the past like gosh probably like three four years now i can't believe how long the group's been going now um so i kind of throw out the window throw out the window throw out all of the like things i'm trying to read each month uh for may and just read middle grade so i'm pretty sure i'm gonna take off basically everything i would normally anyways i also keep my i read more books because little gray books are either shorter generally or faster for me to get through because of the language and size of the text and all that stuff so most of these books are middle grades if you want to join the cbr and beyond group uh we're doing uh like a group uh like we break off into teams and then you get points and team with the most points with the and so if you want to join feel free to join but yeah these are the books that i'm going to attempt to read in the month of may so first off i'm reading all systems right this is one of my few non middle grade books this month i've just been super excited and interested in and i think and was it january february i just went through and slotted novellas or graphic novels into every single month because i just have a million of them i want to get through i didn't even have to think about it and this is the one that got slotted in here so all system read by martha wells i just know it's a sci-fi everyone i know is kind of high key obsessed with it i think they're supposed to be an ai situation and that's genuinely all i know i think the sixth one of the series is about to come out and um i'm super curious i am going to start making my way through the keeper of the lost city series so i own all of the ones in paperback that are available out in paperback um i have read keeper of the lost cities this is book one i have read it and i really enjoyed it and then i was like okay just buy the whole series so it's been i think two years though since i've read this or a year and a half at the very minimum so i'm gonna do a reread of this i just remember there's gnomes and the main character finds out that she is the descendant of like a gnome and somehow ended up in our world and then gets transported into the gnome is it gnomes or out what is it i'm pretty sure it's gnomes right or something of that nature or fairies something like that so this is book one keeper of the lost cities then we got book two exile i have not read this we get book three everblaze obviously i've read that and book four never seen i haven't read this i own the rest of those so it's gonna be probably month of june finish the next four ish and then i think i only have one more after that and i believe there's one more coming out in this series that hasn't been released yet so i'll basically be caught up i am squeezing in an arc this month made in korea by sarah suk this is um uh coming out in may and i was lucky enough to snag an arc it's an author of color who is canadian we don't get many canadian authors periods like i said but even more pumped to see authors of color coming out of canada it said in high school contemporary potential for romance cute teen things so it's not always my jam but may and like do like these summer times this is when i'm going to enjoy this stuff so i'm going to give it a shot the main character valerie runs like a asian beauty thing at school like a business and she's using the money to uh to save money to go to paris and then a new kid wes uh he's determined to pursue music despite his parents parents disapproval when his classmates claim her to buy the kpop branded beauty products his mom gave him to make new friends he sees a business opportunity and they're gonna you know compete so very curious about this again one of the few we're probably getting all the middle grades non-middle grade books at the beginning of this tbr um i am reading 211 to load by martha waters this just came out in april i think i picked it up in march because it got released early though um where i was and it is in the same series as to happen to hoax absolutely adored to having to hoax i don't know why i have such a good look such a low rating on goodreads um lots of romantic banter and it's you know victorian era regency kind of bridgerton era you know what i'm thinking saying and um it's always like a couple who are like at odds they're already a couple basically though and the whole premise is like these people who are already together like actually getting together so i hope i love this as much as i love to have it to hoax because i'm obsessed with that book then i'm going to be picking up paulo santiago palace sorry hello santiago and the river of tears by taylor k majia i believe there's a sequel to this supposed to be coming out in 2022 i'm pretty sure um it's under the required an imprint i love the required an imprint um they're constantly just pumping out amazing things um this is a retelling of lady lalorna right yeah i just know it's supposed to be a mexican folklore retelling i think it's lady little lady lorna or something like that i'm assuming it's supposed to be this kind of ghosty character that's appearing on the cover so i've had this book for a while and i i'm kind of amazed i haven't read it yet so i have to read it this month for sure one of the group reads in the tbr piano group this month and i am so excited is to pick up amari and the knight brothers by bibi alston it has been sitting on new york times since it came out which is fantastic black debut author that's awesome awesome thing to happen um and everyone i know seems to just be obsessed with this book and i think it's a trilogy set for now at least but amari um has never stopped leaving her missing brother quentin is alive um though the police told her otherwise and when she get in trouble for standing up to bullies who said that he was gone for good and then um a briefcase gets found and he's not exactly missing i'm so excited about this if you want to do uh read along with us in the tbr beyond group feel free to join the group and the cover is so freaking pretty the us and the uk covers are both really really pretty and i am freaking excited to read this just nah beyond excited then i'm going to be picking up the magnificent monsters of cedar street by lauren oliver i think this one um or not one was named one of the best books of the year by her yes i want to say for middle grade um i really really like lauren oliver's curio is it curiosity circus what's it called i have it somewhere up here where's the o's oh here it is uh curiosity house series and i think i read two of her ya books and didn't like them all that much but her middle grade stuff absolutely love so i am going to be picking up the next book here and it's just oh the cover is so freaking pretty so freaking pretty it's insane so the main character chord cordelia heard her dad um help like magical creatures and it's set in boston i believe right um boston and i don't know what time period exactly but i'm guessing this 1800s based on the language and the summary um but other people in the time are not super welcoming to people that are other so monsters and it's mentioned in here of immigrants as well so i don't and then she wakes up and her father is gone as well as all the monsters so i have a feeling it's going to be a bit of analysis of kind of othering and xenophobia and just hate of outsiders you know for big fans i don't know why as humans of doing that for some reason so i am really really excited for this and the illustrations on the cover just freaking beautiful i have owned this book for forever and i still haven't read it so i really hope i get to miss ellicott school for the magically minded by sage blackwood um i just know that there's a magical school i think i got it off a book outlet a few years or no there's no um markers on the pages so maybe not i don't know and i have put it on i think a couple tbrs and it doesn't have an audio book so if i don't have enough time then it just gets pushed to the wayside but um the miss ellicott runs the school and then like she goes missing and the kids i think have to figure out where she went and that's why you can see the little kiddos on the cover they're marching along so freaking cute i plan on picking up the shadow moth uh o'clock stars i bought this in december i think it was when i saw it in the bookstore i thought it was so freaking cute the cover is so nice and i bought it for my friend melanie and i thought it'd be fun if we could both read the book together so um i bought a copy for myself there's beautiful pictures the freaking it's so pretty it's a thick book it i looked at the cover and reminded me a lot of david walliams who wrote um was it ice mammoth or something like that that i read um vice monster and i have just been so curious going back to that stuff that i probably would have read when i was a kid when i was reading like charlie and the chocolate factory all that raw doll stuff that i grew up on when i look back now like this is i think the stuff that would have been that stuff for me as a kid so i'm so curious to read this stuff so um i just i'm absolutely i think i read the summary when i bought the book but head empty it's just grisha stuff in there right now i in the past few months got the rest of the series so i'm going to be reading magical misfits books three and four book three is the minor third and book four is the fourth suit um i have read the first two oh it's probably up here now what's the problem with sitting on the floor where's my nail patrick harris content i don't know either way it's damn adorable there's the uh parrots and the found family and the magic and there's a lot of diversity in this packed into this little series and i can see why like neil patrick harris him and his husband like had two had twins via surrogacy so i can see like why he would have written this for them like they could very i could i could totally get that and it's just so fun to follow along and they always have a little bit of mystery and fun magic stuff and the way that they interject like um tips and tricks and like things to try because that's one thing i remember like as a teen you know patrick harris being on talk shows and stuff like that um that he is a big fan of like magic like magic tricks and that sort of stuff so i thought this was just this just oozes that this is his work one of my most anticipated reads of the year wilde more the accidental apprentice this was pitched as pokemon meets nevermore if you don't know oh that's my stardust tattoo big fan of nevermore big fan of nevermore my tattoo says step boldly i'm getting another one soon too i haven't figured out what it is but it is likely going to be a quote from hollow pox so um the concept of that and i grew up on pokemon okay i was in the era where school had to ban pokemon cards because kids kept stealing them from each other or doing bad trades and the kids would find out it was bad trade and then would happen so our school got those the only thing that i remember being able to watch on tv on ytv and then going to school and being able to bring those stuff with them was the beyblades those things that you rip them and they go down um spinny tops yeah because yu-gi-oh cards ended up getting banned too but i think i was out of elementary school by the time that happened but i remember pokemon it was like black market dealing when you brought those out at school so the concept of combining those things wildly interested so i also a couple was it like last year i found out about this book called the second second best haunted hotel on mercer street and i was like that's adorable um you may not know mercer is my actual legal last name and i've never seen anything with my name on it before my mother's name qua is on cans everywhere um because i guess you call it's called lerkoy or whatever the heck it is the sparkling water company but i've never seen my legal last name on anything except for rick mercer who if you're not canadian you won't know who he is so um the i just honestly picked up for that it's so again cute like adorable front illustrations reminds me a little bit of um see i moved everything around my shelves now and now i can't find anything i keep just defaulting there there's a book that's like the haunted christmas or something like that with the front hotel with the head popping out it kind of reminds me a little bit of that um i'm just so freaking excited 12 year old willow ivan's family has run the hotel avid for 400 years they're thick and thin they've always held on tight to their little uh to their title as the best haunted hotel on mercer street this is until the hauntery a corporate chain of haunted hotels moves in down the street zion's business fades so does their ghostly staff and willow begins to worry that the ivan's days are numbered then willow meets evie a haunted ghost who's forced to play a part in a spooky little girl even though that even though she longs to be the terrifying phantasm so when willow offers her job as the i at the ivan she accepts and but doesn't tell willow that she's still working for their competition um and the girls gotta come up with a plan i'm always for an anti-corporation i'm also going to be picking up ancestor approved by cynthia lee smythe this is from the heart drum imprint which is a new imprint from i believe it's harper collins it is all indigenous voices so this was one of the first two books that come out came out it's an anthology it's a collection of indigenous authors stories surrounding the same um pow-wow event and so i am super curious about this the cover is beautiful it's so pretty and um i'm excited to give it a read i'm also going to be picking up the world between blinks by amy kaufman and ryan broaden this another one that i've had been there being like whenever it's middle grade may it's time to read it i absolutely love ryan rodden's wolf by wolf amy kaufman i read the ice wolf series which i just freaking love that it's so adorable such a cute middle grade series so i am super curious about this combining two authors that i never even thought of those two voices together before but amy kaufman seems to be really good at writing with other authors which i think is a really big skill to have on its own so i am really excited to read this one then i'm going to be reading fearless by is it mandy gonzalez she is the she's an actor from hamilton right i'm pretty sure um i was lucky enough through the libro uh complimentary copies library and program thing that they have if you can hear watson snoring i'm so sorry he does this every time i feel um the fearless audio book was about made available to me so i grabbed that i've been curious about it since the reveal came for the cover um so i hope i like it i'm also going to be picking up the infinity quartz by kemi dawn bowman i believe it is i'm so freaking curious about this book so freaking curious oh my god so it is war cross meets black mirror pitched everywhere but basically a character this girl she is japanese american um she gets killed right at the beginning and wakes up as like a part of the ai or something like that and they have to like battle it sounds weird so curious about this because i read harley in the sky by this author the book that came out before about like this girl in the circus her writing is beautiful so i'm very excited to read this and oh my god i have i did get my copy it's just in another room and i'm on the floor so i was also able to get through the libro complimentary librarianship program thing a copy of which is steeped in gold so this is oh my god the cover of this since the cover of this got revealed like everyone i know has been like can't wait to get my pesky little paws on it i am very excited for this one oh i can't wait to hold it can't wait to touch it i'm very excited very very very excited why is fantasy it looks just so good and i have somehow never read a vanessa riley book which i'm kind of amazed i own several of them on audiobook just haven't gotten to them but again this book came up sometime last year i think in like work book recommendation webinars and so island queen and then i saw it pop up as an option for me on the librarian complimentary uh copies programs on libro and lost my damn mind and requested that and got it i am so so excited so freaking excited about island and then my last few uh is to do a read of the windy city magic this series is labeled as y a in some places it's middle grade as someone who read the first two books it is a middle grade series it's on the higher end but it was definitely middle grade so windy city magic's book one is at the best kind of magic book two was the sweetest kind of fate and book three is the fairest kind of love by crystal cestari i it's just fun and sweet set in contemporary is it chicago or seattle chicago and um the main character runs like a magical shop with her mother and things go awry over the course so i am excited to finish the series because i i don't know what happened i really enjoyed it i enjoyed it enough to buy the physical copies of them um so i i just hadn't gotten to book three yet somehow so i'm counting these as middle grades and they're going in may and the second book ends with like a whole like mermaid kind of thing battle i think if i remember correctly so i'm curious to see what's gonna happen in the third book so yeah it's i'm being very ambitious for may but i'm just in that kind of mood i'm still stuck at home because they still i don't vaccines are just like i think i'm genuine i think it's just gonna be we have to wait until the us stops hoarding all the vaccines that we can finally get vaccines but either way we have dumb asses running my province so it's i'm still home the weather's nice so i'm not really in that seasonal depression of hating everything quite as i was in february but um i'm still stuck at home so might as well try and read a bunch of books and i'm also hyper competitive so because it is a teams thing that we break everyone into teams in the tbr and beyond group for may i want to stack my list so i don't even have to waste time thinking about what book waste time is a lost point okay okay so um yeah hopefully i can get through a good chunk of these but i will link a goodreads shelf down below with all of these books on them i will also link all of my social media and i will link the tbr and beyond group as well so if you want to join feel free to join if you follow me i'll follow you back as long as you don't have a super sketchy account and thank you for putting up for with the ring light in my glasses and want some snoring and all this but uh yeah i will see you all next tuesday
