want to lift up this morning to you God awake our souls to sing to you God to give you the praise you so deserve God no matter what we've walked in through these doors with God no matter what we're holding on to God God we just know that you are bigger that you are here um you are the comforter the healer our Defender and so so much more and based on your presence here with us God we know that things are going to be okay God we know that um it's so hard to see around the corner sometimes but we know that you are the light to in the path to our feet God if we would just follow you we'd be okay and so today as we lift up what moms have meant to us in our lives what moms are to us in our lives um let us just ReSound with a thanks to God for the time we have with our moms that we've had um for it's what what a what a hard job it is right to be a mom and and so God we just want to lay every cast our cares cast our burdens cast everything at the foot of the cross this morning and help us to just be able to offload that and just place it in your hands God God may we release the things that we're holding tight on to so that we can receive freely your presence and your comfort and your peace this morning as we sing this God awaken ourselves to that that promise that we have this morning in you amen [Music] there is a sound I love to hear it's the sound of the savior's robe as you with with expecting Hearts just to hear from um you this this day I know there's going to be several people uh speaking and uh just pray a blessing over this time we have gathered in your name God just in this this campus this place this church for those of you online just thank you so much for being a part of the uh the new hopes campus and church uh family here if you're new and if you're visiting us uh just want to say um thank you so much for being here and um and God we just give over this morning and uh would you just meet us exactly where we're at in right in this place that we're standing the place that we're going to be sitting be in the midst of our conversations our thought God as we just reflect on your glory and the beauty that you have uh laid before us to live out on this Earth while we're here God we love you it's in Jesus name we lifted us up everything to you God in your name we pray amen amen all right well let's take this time to uh to greet some people around you say hello to a couple new faces um and welcome each other and then we'll continue what all right good morning everybody good morning let's get started with some announcements before Pastor Cisco comes up with his message um first off we have a food bank happening on Tuesday it's an Outreach we do to our community two um two times a month so um our next one is going to be this Tuesday the 14th from 10: to 11: the food has been going by really fast too just so you guys know so get there early um and it's right out here in the Breezeway uh small groups they launched this last week we had our first ladies small group on Friday it was great great turnout um and the doors are still open if you guys can't didn't come Friday that's that's okay join us this week it's at 7:00 here and then the guys meet for their small group Wednesday mornings here at New Hope uh at 8:00 a. before work and then we have a water baptism coming up in the next couple weeks so if that's something that you're interested in uh reach out to me or Pastor Cisco leave us a message um on our website and we can get you guys in on that um we'll give you guys a for sure date next week but um with that let's welcome up Pastor Cisco thank you thank you Amy well good morning everybody we got some nice clouds who's excited should get Sunny we we prayed for it we said Tuesdays and Wednesdays right that's when we want the the rain but good morning happy Mother's Day I am so excited to be gathered around some amazing beautiful women here that are mothers happy Mother's Day to you uh and you know we're we're gathered just to celebrate and honor the incredible virtuous mothers in our lives but also provide some comfort um as many of you know you know we've we've had several mothers um go to be with Jesus this past year so this is also a time to find provide comfort and healing and hope to those who may be carrying a heavy burden on this day uh it's it's a day that we celebrate our mothers celebrate you if you're a mother today um but also remember the Legacy that they have left amen God is so good and he definitely works through our mothers uh and here at New Hope Santa Cruz New Hope apos Santa Cruz has uh Pastor Abby we celebrate women in our church we celebrate them because you know Jesus actually called the first evangelist the lady at the well to go share the message right and we celebrate here at New Hope appt our our women our speakers our uh evangelists our pastors um so Amen to that it's just a amazing place to be and today we are going to celebrate these two women Lois and and Eunice from second Timothy 1:5 and we're going to stick with that verse we're going to talk about them and what this is all about so let us pray as we enter into the word father God we are just so grateful for you father God grateful that you are here in our midst father let you speak father God remove my thoughts and my feelings father God but let you be in control use me to deliver your word that you want for your people father God in Jesus mighty name we pray amen so who is Lois and Eunice so they are those characters that you do not hear much of um Lois being the grandmother and Unice being the mother of Timothy and if you know a little bit about Timothy if you've read Timothy Timothy was one of Paul's Companions and would travel around around uh with Paul helping start churches uh we know a lot about Timothy from the letters that Paul wrote to him which is first and second Timothy so Paul actually wrote those letters to Timothy and we know a lot about him we know he was young because Paul even told him not to let people look down on him because of his youth we knew he was educated because Paul also says continue studying to show himself approved he was also very gifted as Paul told him fan into Flame the gift of God that was in him he became the bishop of the church in Ephesus and later in life was martyred for his faith standing for Doctrine you see Timothy changed the Christian Church through his ministry and Leadership in spreading Christianity and he lived a life of faithful service to God and was Paul's companion on many missionary Journeys helping Paul establish and build up churches throughout the Roman world you see and his success had little to do with himself and little to do with Paul but more to do with a faith modeled by his mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois and here we see in uh 2 Timothy 1 ver5 it says I am reminded of your sincere Faith which first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and I am persuaded now lives in you also so let us unpa this it says sincere Faith a sincere faith of a mother and a grandmother that he was able to witness it started with them first you see Lois was amongst one of the first Christian Believers establishing a Christian home can you imagine how much harder that would be than nowadays establishing a CH a Christian home with teenagers with with kids with all the things that need to happen in the home starting up a Christian faith sincere faith Paul calls that out and says that was sincere what does a sincere Faith look like choose to be sincere instead of acting sincere you see sincere means without hypocrisy one of the worst fears of of a pastor or of a leader in a church is to see people maybe act as though they are Christians instead of truly living there is life and life more abundant than than just to act it out truly living that sincere faith faith and Lois and Eunice knew that first in Lois then in Eunice then in Timothy you see sincere faith means I'm going to be who God calls me to be I'm not just going to be that way on Sunday morning I'm going to be that in my own home I'm going to be that in my workplace I'm going to be that when I'm stuck in traffic or when somebody cuts me off a sincere faith that Roots deep you see if we come on Sunday morning and make this our faith let's just meet God on Sunday mornings he meets you every day this is not church is not about just Sunday mornings it's about throughout your week because guess who's watching those little ones that person that is helping you at the counter is watching and they need to see that sincere faith on the way to church I've had some rough ways to church as well they need to see that sincere faith that is rooted my mother once told me well she actually told me many times I was very persuasive as a child and I'm I I just wanted something so bad I'm like the other kids are getting the same thing why can't I have it I'll do this I'll do that I I'll I'll remodel the house I mean out you know whatever I could say to get what I wanted and my mother kept telling me I don't want to hear it I want to see it don't tell me show me that stuck with me so much and she didn't just tell me that she proved that to me there was a time that we uh we went to Pismo Beach how many of you have ever been to Pismo Beach yeah way more beautiful beaches here but Pismo Beach was the Central Valley like best place to go it had Dunes I mean we we could you could go camping so we would go there quite often with family we wouldn't rent a hotel because that was too expensive uh but we'd go camping and uh we didn't have a tent we would just sleep on the back of the camper so one of these uh was was a very interesting uh visit to Pismo Beach um I don't know what happened some altercations with my parents and then my mom was driving us um by herself so we were driving through the the the the beach I mean people just drive I mean here you don't see that but at Pismo Beach people just drive their cars through the beach and then they uh it was getting late so we had to enter this other side um that is for camping but to enter that section you had to cross this like River looking thing like it's like the ocean's coming in and it's going hard it's it's night time by the way and my mom being the tough mom she is she's like I can make it it's a little pickup truck by the way it's just one door and then the camper my sister and I were in the back we're like all right she's doing this so she goes I mean this is this is like probably this deep it's it was pretty deep um so she goes in and tries to haul through it the truck gets stuck in the middle of this my sister and I were freaking out we were going to die like I mean I'm sure it wasn't I mean it it felt like this tall you know this deep I mean we thought it was over and we were crying and my mom is in the front driving this this pickup truck and she just goes please calm down I'm sure it was much louder than that I'm sure it was like just stop you know I'm I'm pretty sure but I choose to live with the memory I have right now of it please calm down but when I remember calming down and saying okay well we can't cry we can't we can make a scene all I remember is my mom just sitting there in the front and there were people around they tried to take the the pickup truck out and they couldn't we couldn't get out because it was going pretty fast the stream was going pretty fast we couldn't get out so we're in the back of the camper and I see my mother holding on to the wheel and I knew she was praying she was still she was calm she never told us she was praying but every time time I look back at that memory I know she was praying and that's the first time I saw what it looks like to be calm in the midst of a storm you see she didn't tell me what to do she did tell us to be quiet but she showed us what it look like to have faith shortly after after we just whatever's going to happen is going to happen my father pulls up with I don't know who but a big truck guy she she he probably went to go look for somebody that had the biggest truck and pulled us out so we're alive yeah if you guys are all wondering we made it out but she showed us what it looked like you see virtuous mothers they show us what faith looks like in those Quiet Moments in those times of trouble on the dinner table praying over the food bedtime always praying no matter how hard bed times can be amen bed times can be very hard because I want to go to bed sincere Faith you live the faith and I am just so grateful for all you virtuous mothers that show that to us even here in the church you show that let us keep going here it says I am reminded of your sincere Faith which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Unice and I am persuaded now lives in you also a mother's Legacy you see it t it talks about first living in his grandmother great faith sometimes means going first how many of you have ever been first on on anything a run a a workout no okay no first okay yes all right so I I've said this before I one of my favorite workouts is CrossFit obviously I'm not doing it right now but it's my favorite workout I swear I swear but it does require teamwork it does require teamwork I mean when I get to it I'm good I think I don't know I will never show you but anyways it it requires teamwork and you you usually either have to wait for the first guy to go and you are praying that it's not the big body lifter you're just praying because when you go after you either have to lift the same weights he's lifting or you have to like just humble yourself and take all those off and just put the little tiny ones but I have been first on some of these workouts thank God and the pressure that you feel behind you knowing that somebody is waiting and watching what you are doing sometimes being first is so tough so tough because you know somebody is behind you watching waiting for their turn see being first is not such a big burden Lois knew that knew that being first sometimes makes us discover the strength that we didn't know we had you see my mother accepting Christ in her life she had no idea I was watching she she didn't come to the house preaching to us we had a a very um troubled household as I was growing up but I remember the moment that things started changing and that's when she found Christ she didn't tell us she didn't say hey guys I found Christ so now the home's going to change she took us everywhere she was at I remember the first the first memory of her accepting Christ is her getting baptized in war water you see we're we're a family that uh was raised Catholic and you get baptized as a child so for her to make that transition she accepted Christ in her life not just to accept him but to transform her life a mother's Legacy you see I was witnessing her getting baptized I was witnessing her in her room reading her Bible I had no idea what was going on but I knew something was going on that same mother I saw on that pickup truck I saw her reading her word a mother's Legacy she started something she worked on her faith she put her mask on First and said I'm changing my life because I can't go like this anymore and guess who was watching my siblings and I we were watching her transform we were watching her become new a mother's Legacy she had no idea she was leaving a footprint in our hearts now my sisters and I we Believers we follow Christ amen and our children are following Christ and our grandchildren are going to follow Christ sometimes being first is tough but it is important mothers that are first or second keep keep going keep going and watch watch how it'll impact your families watch how those those nighttime prayers will impact your family watch how always pointing to Christ will impact your family keep going one day it'll click and they will follow Christ with all their hearts they may be coming to church and believing but one day it'll all just click and they will follow Christ for the rest of their lives you see leis knew that she wanted more of Christ in Eunice's life than she wanted her to get get a scholarship she wanted Christ in her life more than she wanted her to to to to marry well she wanted an eternal life don't get me wrong I want my children to go to a good college but I don't want that more than for them to go to heaven a mother's Legacy is so important God uses all of our mothers God is using you now today not just in the lives of your children or the lives around you but in my life as well little did Lois knew that the faith that she started would continue to unus and then her grandson Timothy you see your greatest Legacy will not be what you build here on Earth it will be who you raise up continue that keep going nothing will matter as much as leaving an Eternal Legacy of faith in Jesus Christ third here and last one he says I am reminded of your sincere Faith which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and I am persuaded now lives in you for all of you that had virtuous mothers take your turn take your turn it is time continue to walk in the faith that maybe didn't start with you but will continue through you I believe that is the greatest gift you can give a mother is a life lived for Christ the greatest gift you can give her give those moms that put God first in their lives the ones who pray for you and with you the ones who put God first with their time and their finances those grandmothers that gave you that little dollar so that you can hand it while the basket goes around I don't know if any of you remember that I remember my grandma gave me a dollar I was like yes I get to put that in the basket I got money that I get to give away continue it's your turn want Eternity for your children more than anything else as we close up and the worship team comes up I want to remind us with this verse in Proverbs 31 verse 30 and 31 it says charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised honor her for all that her hands have done and let her Works bring her praise at The City Gate let us honor our mothers today church let us remember what they have done and maybe some of us hold that grief of a mother but celebrate what their hands have done celebrate the mothers that you are cuz you are made perfect for for those little ones so let us stand today if we can stand please and let us honor our mothers by praising the God who sent them who has done many things through our mothers is doing things and will continue to do in our lives let us lift our hands up make our mamas proud that we follow Christ with all of our life with all of our soul with all we have cuz he deserves all the glory all the honor all the Praises I thank you God for sending my mother I thank you for sending all the mothers here let us pray father God thank you Father for you are Mighty and mighty to be praised we surrender it all father God all that you've told us today all that you've given us today father let us walk in that Faith whether we are first or we're continuing let us be transformed by you in the midst of a storm Let Us Praise you help us to have that sincere faith that faith that speaks little but shows [Music] much that faith that shines a light on you and less on us thank you father in Jesus mighty name [Music] amen as morning Dawn and and evening Faith you inspire songs of praise that rise from Earth to touch your heart and glorify your name your name your louder cuz nothing has the power to say but your name [Music] thank you Cisco for that wonderful message today and that honoring of mothers there's uh so much that comes to my mind right now um for those of you you know we all came from mothers right every one of us and uh God intended in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve that that relationship was no death no sin it was supposed to be perfect but death and sin had entered the world through our rebellion and I think of of people who have lost mothers Marlene's not here Amy and others and people who I don't mention I think of has anyone Lo else lost a mother um the burden and you must be feeling and the the uh but I also think of new mothers uh I think of Wendy and Aisha running around and and anybody is a new mother this year raise your hand if you or a new grandmother uh new aunt and the beauty of that and the the gift that that is you all must be going through so much right now anyone who is a mother I think of J you're you're you know you have a son about to graduate and going through different stages and there's difficult there there's mothers here who have Wayward Sons or daughters um I know that in this we have members in this in this church right now who are praying for their daughter for their son to come to the Lord uh and Jesus is kneeling at the cross at at the at the Throne of God praying for every mother and and sees every burden when Jesus was on the cross he looked down at his mother and said mother behold your son and he looked to John the disciple and said behold your mother Jesus knows and sees you as mothers and sees you as sons and daughters and so if you are if if for all you mothers there's a gift outside for you take that gift if your if the mother isn't here if you have someone to give a gift take that gift to that person to that person who was a mother in your life or played that role and if they need if you need to forgive them forgive them for something if you need to say thank you say thank you say something to your mother and for those of you who have lost a mother I pray for your comfort and for your strength and for you be blessed today in the remembrance of your mother and for that person but right now as I pray just think of of Jesus sees you and and um so again take that gift be a blessing to someone today if uh you're going to give it to them say something to them in thankfulness or if you need to ask for forgiveness that that that word forgiveness just kept coming to my mind through the service don't let if you need to ask for forgiveness if you need to forgive um don't let today pass without doing that don't let the enemy uh get that take that foothold that I think that's meant for someone today online um and if you need to pray some more we're going to pray tonight at 6 o' here in the the church will be open we're going to pray um but bless you who have been a mother who are a mother who um if you've lost a child God bless you and may He comfort you I just all these things keep coming to mind of what God has for you and has for us as a church so I'm just going to pray and I'm going to shut up now and just just pray dear Lord thank you thank you for seeing us thank you for what the work that you have done you are faithful to complete it in all mothers and anyone who is in that role as a mother sisters grandmothers aunts um daughters dear Lord thank you for women and we pray that you would provide for them the strength the the comfort and mourning the healing in hurts the thankfulness and the joys in these times of of your wonder and your grace and your mercy and your goodness we thank you dear Lord we pray that you would take the burdens of the Lost Sons and Daughters from the mothers and know that you are interceding on their behalf and they are not carrying those burdens alone we thank you dear Lord that one day we will be in heaven and we will be with those that we have lost you will see them dear Lord and while we walk here dear Lord give us wisdom and discernment to communicate thanks and joy and to not hold on to hurt but to forgive and just to walk in the grace and mercy that you showed us from the cross for ourselves all all have sinned but you have saved us and given us eternal life let us show that grace and mercy and thanks to our mothers and to our sons to to anyone in our lives that you are calling to us today we give you honor and praise for all that you have done in Jesus name amen God bless you uh if you need prayer today uh come down we'll we'll we'll pray for you and then again tonight at 6 and again for those mothers please take a gift and that includes if you have played a role as a mother just take a gift and give that gift to someone if they're not here today
