e e e e e e e e e e [Music] good morning you hope someone just told someone to sh right now I heard that whichever yeah some mom just told her kids to Shish but today is not a shushing day is it we're we're going to Make Some Noise today amen today is a good day we're going to stand up this morning and we're going to be ready to worship so if you're able and can would you stand up with me this morning and today is a good day amen today is Resurrection Sunday it doesn't get any better than today why is today a good day though why is today good day you know there's all these rumors about this great savior this King coming and and then Good Friday happens and we see Jesus crucified saying it is finished and it seems so dark and and heavy and then silent Saturday happens where nothing happens every hope that they've had seems to have ended the night before but Church Saturday turns into what Sunday Saturday turns into Sunday and the the story doesn't end that Good Friday Friday turned into Saturday and the deafening Silence of Saturday was broken and then love wins Jesus wins amen he never stopped loving us and the blood of Jesus that gushed down that Hillside reversed the curse of life and this is the story of Jesus this is the story of love and this is the hope we base our lives on Amen church and no matter no matter what you're facing through today know this that the that the man who conquered death knows you this morning a resurrected savior is a big deal it would seem like a myth or a lore or a legend at that time and then one by one everyone saw saw him walking around touch his hands heard his voice hung out with him on the beach side and it became real that's why it's a good day today the grave today is empty church the grave is empty today and because he lives he knows we know that he is with us today he is the strength for those that came in this morning if you're weary this morning he is the strength that you're seeking for the one who spoke the universe into being he gets to be here today with you we get to worship him today he is the Friend of Sinners he is The Shepherd of our soul he is the defender of the accused he is alive and well just give you guys an overview of what we are all about here at New Hope app TOS first off we have some great outreaches that we do every week we have our family Fellowship that happens on the first Sunday of every month that's happening next week just come as a family it's after service just go into the um building over there my mind's blanking the what do you call that like the kids building and um we just have food and hang out and it's super fun and then we have our youth group that happens um every other Friday it is at night 6: to 8 so that's always really fun it's really fun to see how it's grown over the year it's such an awesome Ministry to our communic for our community and that is for middle school and high school ages and then we also have food bank so every other Tuesday um pull in just right here in the Breezeway and you can collect food for yourself or a neighbor or a family member that might need some such awesome outreaches and honestly we're just so glad that we can just give back to our community right and then also prayer is so huge here at New Hope appos we're having our first Sunday prayer and worship night that's going to be next week we normally kind of split between um our campus and the new hope Santa Cruz so next week it's going to be here 6 o' we just get together and worship and pray and be together for that so uh with that let's welcome up Pastor Ed I love being in this church we have a team of preachers here amen teaching uh pastors and I love that um and my name's Ed I'm one of the pastors here and today I get to read scriptures with you so if you have your Bibles um this morning or you have your phone app Bible app whatever may be open it up to John chapter 20 and we will start there it says early on the first day of the week while it was still dark Mary magdal went to to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance so she came running to Simon Peter in the other disciple the one Jesus loved and said they have taken the Lord out of the Tomb and we don't know where they have put him so Peter and the other disciples started for the tomb both were running but both but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first he bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb he saw that the strips of L of linen lying there as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus head the cloth was still lying in its place separate from the linen finally the other disciple had reached the tomb first also went inside he saw and he believed belied then the disciples in verse 10 went back to where they were staying and in verse 11 now Mary stood outside the tomb crying and she wept and then she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white seated where jesus' body had been one at the head and the other one at the foot they asked Heroman why are you crying she replies she replied they have taken my Lord away and I don't know where they have put him at this she turned around and saw Jesus standing there but she did not realize that it was Jesus he asked her woman why are you crying who is it that you are looking for thinking that he was the gardener she said sir if you had carried him away tell tell me where you have put him and I will get him but Jesus said to her Mary and she turned towards him and cried out in Aramaic raboni which means teacher and Jesus says do not hold on to me for I have not yet ascended to the father go instead to my brothers and tell them I am ascending to my father and your father to my God and what church and your God Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with a news and she says I have seen the Lord and she told them that he had said these things to her amen amen and everybody let welcome Pastor Eric as he preaches this morning come on now good morning good morning happy Easter or Resurrection Sunday I don't care what name you use I'm just excited about Jesus amen amen my name is uh Eric I'm part of the teaching team here at New Hope APS um and I'm also the drummer so sorry about that um and uh today uh we we have um a panel there's a mortgage Board of us who are going to be teaching and we're censoring today all about the foundation of our faith which is the resurrection of Jesus Christ of Na of Nazareth his deity and him proving it through the resurrection and so I'm going to take us a little bit before the resurrection and I'm going to take us a little bit after the resurrection and then we're going to zero end on Ground Zero of the actual resurrection of Jesus and Pastor Cisco is going to bring us home um just learning how we can Engage The Resurrection no matter how we approach it there's a there's a place for you in the story of the Resurrection no matter where you are in your faith today and so we all ought be excited about that and so prior to the resurrection of Jesus um we know that that he dies right you can't have a resurrection without a death and and prior to his death um he actually has an unjust trial where false Witnesses came against him and they bore false witness against him meaning that they knew that their testimonies were lies they pretended like they heard him say certain things that he never said all to get the Roman authorities to crucify him u based on unfounded things and so I want to take a quick look at that time where Jesus is put on trial because uh the way that we approach the resurrection there's actually some meat in the trial that actually gives us a healthy and and and good way to approach the resurrection so John chapter 18 verse 33 this is the Book of John written by one of the Disciples of Jesus who was an eyewitness to all of the things uh that that he's saying In This Moment so John is is there um he's in this moment uh he's a part of this time and so his his account can indeed be trusted so John 18:33 is where we find the trial um of Jesus pilate then went back inside the palace summoned Jesus and asked him are you the king of the Jews this was the accusation that was levied against him falsely claiming to be the king of the Jews and Jesus clarifies um he asked is that your own idea or did others talk to you about me um verse 35 says am I a Jew pilate replied your own people and chief priests handed you over to me what is it you have done Jesus then elaborates and clarifies he says my kingdom is not of this world someone say not of this world my kingdom is not of this world if it were my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders but now my kingdom is from another place you are a king then said pilate Jesus answered you say that I am a king in fact the reason I was born and come into this world is to testify to the truth anytime Jesus gives a focus statement anytime he gives a mission statement we as the church we ought listen very carefully and take that Focus statement that mission statement as our own I want to read that one more time it says the reason I have come into this world is to testify to the truth everyone on the side of the truth listens to me then pilate retorted what is truth with this he went again to the Jews pilate the governor at the time who had the ability to put Jesus to death or to set him free he asked the question that I believe Echoes through eternity and the question that we as we approach the resurrection we have to wrestle with today what is truth what is the actual nature of Truth and I believe family of God that when we approach the resurrection we do not have a proof problem we have a truth problem we do not have a proof problem we have a truth problem and so we've got to ask ourselves what is the actual nature of Truth and when we when we look at our world today when we look at our culture when we look at us at Society there's so many different versions of truth that actually falsely minister to us and enable us to actually envelop or exaggerate our own opinions to the height of truth but there's a couple things about the nature of truth that you and I have to reckon with and we have to wrestle with in order for us to have an adequate understanding of the resurrection of Jesus number one there is an objective truth and the thing in your head may or may not be it there is an objective truth truth is not subjective it's not a one- siiz fits all it's not like you get to pick and choose what is true and what is not truth exists and if truth exists the job of us all is to yield to it and not to try to twist it to our own agenda and so it's so necessary that we reckon with the fact that truth is it exists number two we have to recog iiz that a miracle is not automatically untrue or irrational as a matter of fact every single person on this planet believes in a miracle we all just differ on which ones we believe if you believe that nothing happened to nothing and there came the universe guess what that's a miracle and it's no different we just say we know who it was that spoke to the nothing that created the nothing and the nothing happening out of nothing is actually his Carlin card it starts with the empty Universe there came something and then the empty womb of Mary there came something and now we have an empty tomb where life came through death and Jesus is alive again something from nothing is the calling card of our God Miracles are not untrue by their very nature or irrational we all believe in miracles and the resurrection is one of the most important important and Powerful ones and so if we understand that truth is objective it's not that we get to pick and choose then we have to wrestle and reckon with the fact that either the resurrection of Jesus is true or it's not in our very faith everything that we are everything that we have as Believers in Jesus it rests on the Resurrection being true Paul one of the Apostles of of Jesus who came to Jesus after being an enemy enmity against Jesus um for the earlier part of his life he actually says to us if the resurrection is not true if Jesus is not risen from his dead grave then we are still dead in our trespasses then our faith is in vain and so our entire hope it rests right here on the resurrection is it true or is it not and so how do we know what is it about the resurrection that that bleeds true through eternity and shows us that Jesus is who he says he is that his kingdom is indeed not of this world and that he is the way the truth and the life there's a couple ways that we can know this um number one Jesus died that's important to understand it's important to understand the fact that Jesus died that his death was confirmed by an objective Roman Centurion who had no skin in the game he had no reason to lie he had no reason to fake it he said says he stabbed Jesus in the heart and confirmed his death in that way and so you can't have a resurrection without a death Jesus indeed died on the cross every single person who looks at what Jesus went through from a scientific perspective says there's no way Jesus could have survived the crucifixion and so when Jesus was placed in the Tomb of Joseph ARA he was indeed dead number two Jesus tomb is empty to this day Jesus borrowed a tomb from a man named Joseph who was a Pharisee because he he died in Jerusalem he was not from Jerusalem he was from Nazareth and therefore his family tomb was not in Jerusalem it was in Nazareth and so Joseph who was a Jesus apologist of his time he felt for Jesus we're unsure at this point if he actually believed that Jesus was the Messiah but we know that he believed he was a prophet and so he he felt for Jesus and his family and wanted to give him a dignified burial and so he takes him and gives him his own tomb and lays Jesus there therefore all of Jesus enemies all of Jesus disciples every single person in Jerusalem knew where his grave was so much so to the fact that Matthew shows us that the feses asked pilate to place a a a soldier by the tomb to guard it to ensure that no funny business business happened little did he know he was only strengthening our faith the tomb which was guarded is now empty they knew where his body was when the preachers were preaching of a resurrection if it were not true how easy would it have been for the Pharisees and for the Romans to Simply go get Jesus's body and say Here's the man that they claim is alive he's not he's he's just as dead but there was no body the tomb is empty and therefore we have hope and faith based on evidence some would say that our faith is Blind Faith No our faith is based on evidence indicating that there's no better rationale to explain the fact that Jesus's tomb is empty other than the resurrection of Jesus and number three Jesus appeared postmortem to over 500 people many of whom were Skeptics prior to his appearances I want to read 1 Corinthians chapter 15 which is such a beautiful representation of the Gospel PE Paul lays it out so incredibly imperfectly so if you want to know what is the gospel what's what's this Christian thing really about I encourage you open up 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and just read it and allow it to hit your heart and minister to you because it will transform you he does such an impeccable job of showing us why our faith is not in vain so 1 Corinthians chapter 15 ver1 says now brothers and sisters I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you which you received and on which you have taken your stand by this gospel you are saved if you hold firmly to the word I preach to you otherwise you have believed in vain for what I received I passed on to you as first importance and so here's what I need you to understand about 1 Corinthians it's one of the earliest writings about um the the doctrine that was circulating amongst the earliest Believers and so what Paul is about to tell us it's what the Believers were singing about it's the Creeds that they were reciting to each other it's the things that were consistently known amongst the earliest believers who many of which were eyewitness eyewitnesses of of Jesus and his death and res Resurrection so what I've what I received I passed on to you as first importance that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures that he was buried that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures and that he appeared to Peter and then to the 12 and that he appeared to more than 500 of the brothers and sisters at the same time most of whom are still living at the time of his writing they're not still living right now obviously um most of whom are still living though some have fallen asleep then he appeared to James James then to all the apostles and last of all he appeared to me also as to one abnormally born and so Paul is communicating the fact that it's not just the fact that Jesus died it's not just the fact that he's his grave is empty but there are eyewitnesses who actually died tremendously difficult um painful deaths proclaiming to the end that they saw Jesus alive after his death over 500 people and and there's importance of who Paul lists by name he says Peter saw him Peter was a man who after he had denied Jesus and therefore his sorrow had taken him to a place of of being very distraught so Peter seeing Jesus is a powerful proof indicating that Jesus is Alive and then lastly he mentions uh people including himself who were Skeptics who were at in adversity to the cause of Christ who were anti-christian in nature James the little brother of Jesus believe it or not did not believe in Jesus's Ministry when Jesus was alive but after Jesus is resurrected and appears to him he becomes one of the leaders of the churches in Jerusalem there are people who did not believe prior to Jesus's death who believe after his resurrection indicating that his resurrection is true that they are counter true and that they indeed did see Jesus rise from the grave and so the resurrection like I said it's not a matter of proof it's a matter of Truth and so it's it's archaeological fact that the best explanation for all of the facts that we have concerning Jesus in the time of his death is that he rose from the grave and that we can put our faith in him and that we have hope because of him oh death where is your sting oh grave where is your Victory Jesus is Alive and because Jesus is Alive we are alive and so we need not doubt his resurrection but we do need to discover where do we fit in his perfect story and with that Pastor Cisco is going to come and show us where we fit thank you Pastor Eric all right I have to follow that by the way my name is Cisco I'm the acting lead pastor of New Hope abas I am so excited to have you all here today and talk about the Risen King He Is Risen he is risen indeed um and let us review what we just read uh earlier on John 20 uh 1-18 I'm not going to read that scripture we're going to go over it um and where do you fit into this risen you've heard the truth of the Risen King you've heard the undeniable truth that he is risen and at this point that the early disciples saw the empty tomb they couldn't deny the fact that he was risen they just had to discover it for himself so where do you fit in here we see Mary Magdalene and what do we know about Mary Magdalene not much but we do know that she was from a village of magdala which is located by the Sea of Galilee and second we know that Jesus cast seven demons out of her you can reference Mark uh chapter 16 and that played an important role in the devotion she had for Jesus she was the first to discover that tomb was empty you see seven demons were cast out of her she needed her Savior Jesus at this point she believed in the crucified Jesus she was like he's going to live he's going to live in my heart and in my mind because what happened to me is undeniable and at this point you see in the scriptures that Mary did not expect for that tomb to be empty she came and and her first reaction was not he is risen her first reaction was who has taken him out who has taken the Jesus that saved me that was crucified I need that Jesus where is he at and when you read scripture of Mary Magdalene I almost imagine her I don't know if anyone have seen Encanto I know all the kids have I imagine her as Louisa she was about to carry him out she's like get him to me now I will pick him up wherever you put him I need my Jesus what does she do she goes out she tells the disciples he's not in there come look Peter and John they go running this is in verse three if you're if you're following your uh your books and of course in there if you read John has to put in there that he outran outran Peter and it talks about the other disciple and we know from the Gospel of John that that that is John um but of course he puts in there that he outran Peter but when John arrives first he ran so fast he arrives he peaks in and stops he sees the linen clothes lying there and he goes wait I can't go all the way in what he observed was something that almost feared him what does this mean our King was crucified I believe in the king that was crucified what what is happening here there was a a pause as he briefly observed what he had just found how many of you have ever been afraid of the dark I'll admit it I'll admit it still okay I remember one day I can almost relate to John in just this aspect I remember one day I was a kid and I'm like God tells me not to fear well why am I so afraid of this dark every night I'm just like closing my eyes before the lights are off and I just go to sleep finally one day I've had it I'm like I will no longer fear I got up everyone was asleep this was like midnight probably I don't know I was wrestling with the dark all night I got up and I said you know what I got up I went into the dark and I was like my God is with me what's going to happen I opened that door I even went to the backyard I must have been crazy my parents are like what's going on I faced the dark from that day forward I wasn't afraid it was almost like John yeah I'm Not Afraid of the Dark by the way you could put me in a dark room you're fine it was almost as though John feared the life change that was about to happen to him he looked in and he was like wait a minute this is a lot I just believed in my crucified Jesus what does this mean he knew as though his life was about to change and after what a lot of people call impulsive Peter he just passes him up goes all the way in and sees the same thing John gets a little Brave he's like okay I'm not alone he goes in he sees and he believes this is the first account that you see any human believing in that Jesus Christ is risen you see at this point he understood that he is risen this is the fact of the res of the Risen King you might be like John knowing about your belief in Christ but not fully going in because of the fear of what it might mean to your old life you see John knew that this was a moment that his life was about to change you would think at this point his life completely changed he has left his old and followed Christ but it was the Risen King that he was about to encounter so they leave Mary Magdalene still there she's like I'm going to pick him up wherever he's at she stays back weeping she's crying where is my Jesus you see almost as though she fears that these demons might come back if I don't hold on to him this Jesus has just taken everything that haunted me I need my Jesus and what happens she encounters two angels in there and usually if you read in the scriptures you see that and when an angel appears he says fear not they didn't have to do that with Mary Magdalene she was tough Mary unafraid starts talking to them she's like someone has taken him I don't know where they have put him wait Mary there's Angels here can we observe that first she's going straight where is my Jesus Jus she had no stress as to why the Angels were there and as she turns around he says her name and she knew it was him now before he says her name she did not recognize him he was in her midst and like a baby like a newborn baby that recognizes its mother's voice when he's born or she is born she recognized Jesus when he called her name he saido not hold on to me for I have not yet ascended to the father go instead to my brothers and tell them I am ascending to my father and your father and to my God and your God Mary came to believe in the resurrected Jesus if that is not proof enough guess what just like Pastor Eric said he appears to hundreds after you might be like Mary trying so hard to hold on to your salvation as though it can be easily lost but Christ reveals himself to you he is calling you by my name he's saying I am resurrected rest assured of your salvation he didn't just say it is finished on the cross which means your the price is paid in full he said I'm going to send you an email confirmation of this payment the Risen King is the confirmation that he is alive he didn't just want to sit in your heart and in your minds he was I'm going to be alive I'm not going to be just a memory but I'm going to live I'm going to be alive in your midst the resurrection is that confirmation that the father has accepted that we don't get to just shake it in the devil hey my king paid this in fool we get to also shake the Reit in his face and look at that I can confirm to you because he is alive now Thomas this wasn't in in the scripture we read but it is so important to see what Thomas does Thomas is one of the 12 disciples after the disciples tell them what had happened he's like I'm not believing unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my fingers where the nails were and put my hands into his side I will not believe often they call Thomas the doubting th Thomas you see a week later Jesus appear pierced to him and said look at me look at these wounds look at the holes touch me I paid the ultimate price for you as the worship team comes up I want you to really look at where you're at Jesus is Calling You by name believe in the Risen King because there is an undeniable fact that he is risen he paid the price for you look look at his wounds he has given up his body for you his side was pierced for you for your sins maybe you're like Mary and believe in that crucified Jesus but haven't made that full step into believing in the resurrected Jesus maybe you're like John you're sitting right at the edge of that Faith saying I'm here because I believe I just don't want to go all in because I don't know what that means for my old life I like what I have what does it mean my life's about to change if you're like John go in and see and believe and maybe you're like Thomas see Thomas was honest about his faith he said I don't believe until I see guess what he saw and believed you see church today we are celebrating Our Risen King he is alive he is not like other thoughts and religions and ideas where it just lives in here and in here he lives in our midst he is fully Alive where are you at let us stand Let Us Praise Our Risen King [Music] King and prepare yourself to one thing one thing that we have hope we have hope for today and we have hope for tomorrow right is that is that true that is true that's what Easter's about it's new life it's that we are not bound we are not dead and life Jesus rose from the grave to Proclaim to you and to me to give that living testimony that there is a living hope that we are alive that is what Easter's about that is the good news of the Gospel that is why we stand here today and that is why millions billions of people stand just like this all over the world today proclaiming that there is a risen savior death could not keep him down if you're like me sometimes hope is hard to find is that true sometimes so here's here's some other good news though we are in good company you know when Jesus hung on the cross you know there was no hope you know what the disciples did they all ran and hid because they knew knew if if they could get Jesus they could get them and that they knew that they were next there was no hope there was no faith there was no life there was no Resurrection there was nothing they were dead they were they were they had their death sentence proclaimed to them just as they saw their master and their their teacher Jesus hanging dead on the cross they were dead Jesus this is the the this is the the grace this is the Amazing Story of Easter 3 days later Jesus rose from the dead they all saw him they saw him on the beach they saw him walk through a locked room into through a locked door into a room they were in and show up miraculously they saw him with their own eyes people die all the time for things they believe these disciples who all died for Jesus they didn't die for something they believed they died for something they saw something they witnessed something they knew something they something that that that they actually witnessed with their own eyes that is Hope and that's why we stand here today that's why we stand here my question for us as we close I'm going to pray we all all of us here every one of us whether you've been a Christian for 50 years or you're just pondering the idea today we all need hope every one of us we all need hope and I want to pray with you today whether you've been a Christian for 50 years and you need hope I've been a Christian for 45 years and I need hope or you're just sitting here today pondering it if you're sitting here today pondering it my my my my word to you today is today is the day to receive that kind of Jesus Jesus the one who brings hope who brings life who brings newness who changes everything so let's pray and today I pray that you would accept that hope that Christ brings let's pray father thank you for today thank you for the hope that you bring for the new life that you bring I pray for that one or that many who are standing here today who are pondering faith in you I pray Lord God that Jesus that you would forgive them of their sins that you would receive them into your family that they would accept you Lord God just as we all accept you as Lord and Savior the one who brings hope into our lives right now may that be true and for all of us who've who've been here to this Easter Service many many times before May Lord God that Resurrection hope be alive in us stirred in US again that we would never ever forget the power of New Life the hope we have in New Life in the resurrection God you are so good and you have been good to me and you have been good to everyone here Lord God I give you thanks in Jesus name amen if you prayed that prayer today for the very first time and you received
