the story of marine oara is probably one of my favorite Hollywood stories simply for the fact that she defiantly stood up for herself she did not let Hollywood tarnish her though they had many campaigns to destroy her she had to sue a whole Hollywood tabloid that was set out to solely her name destroy her because she was just exposing everyone she was outspoken she spoke her truth and she refused to be on the casting couch and she spoke boldly about that she refused to get surgery to change her face even though Studio exacts were pushing her to do so and punishing her that they wanted you to get a nose job and change your teeth they said that my nose was too big and they wanted to change it too and I said nothing doing if that's what you want to do I will go back to Ireland where I came from and I stay like I am and I'm still here and I've still got the big nose matches my face so why do they want to change it a square job but it takes a lot of Moxy to resist at that age when you first came over and wanted to be a star many people would resist because of monetary reasons but I would resist because I was Irish her though there were times that she could not decline certain roles for fear of being suspended from the studios she still spoke boldly about the type of roles that she wanted and she would still speak her mind about some films that she wouldn't even include those films in her filmography cuz she just wasn't proud of them I just love her story a lot and it just shows you that even during that era like the Golden Age of Hollywood there were some really strong women and before you have celebrities now that Sue bloggers and tabloids successfully Marine orara was one of the first well she was the first she was the first to ever do it and do it successfully too and expose just how disgusting the industry was this woman Not only would get punched and slapped by these Direct and her male actors and just suffer the most disgusting abuses which I will Shar in this but she would be doing the punching too she was just not having it so I'm sure you're going to enjoy this story so much torment in the studio days you write about the way they would clock how long you were in the restroom that time and money was so important yes and all you ever heard was time is money time is money and when we went to the bathroom we were clocked off the set and clucked back on the set and again you heard from Mr I why did it take you so much time to go to the bathroom that particular day I was mad at him and I was hitting him for real and I intended to break his jaw I hauled off to hit him he puts his hand up and stops it and in that moment he snapped my wrist back and cracked a bone in my wrist then I went to the hospital and then came back to the studio and continued working because you got no sympathy is this true that you were mad at them because in the famous scene where he drags you along the hill that he and the director had put down sheep's dung so that you be Dr let me tell you it stinks they love tormenting me probably because I reacted and if I had had the sense to not even react they probably would have quit tormenting me we are going to start off First with her childhood and then we're going to get into her career how she became the morine orara and then we're going to talk about of course all of the disgustingness of of Hollywood and how she won this case against confidential but first hey friend welcome to my channel allude while we Deep dive and break down the most iconic Stars through history if you're not yet subscribed please be sure to do so and if you're already subscribe please turn on your notification Bell so you never miss an upload now without further Ado and before we start I just want you guys to leave some flower emojis in the comments for marine O'Hara cuz she still deserves her flowers today okay she literally made it popular for stars to speak up a little bit more when the time was just the most impressive for Hollywood so just for that alone please leave some flowers in the comments for her but let's start with her childhood born under the name Marine Fitz Simons on August 17th 1920 in the heart of Dublin Ireland the future Hollywood icon grew up in a lively household as one of six children the fit Simon's family was anything but ordinary as Moren herself fondly recalled her family was the most remarkable and Eccentric Family I could have possibly hoped for in quote her father a successful businessman in the clothing industry was also an owner of the Shamrock Rovers Football Club which O'Hara supported passionately since her childhood so they had money and they had means her mother a former operatic contralto and wom's fashion designer was renowned for her beauty and captivating singing voice trade sat Marine inherited men would often leave their homes just to catch a glimpse of her mother's radiant Beauty her mom was known as one of the most beautiful woman of Ireland in her time so they had some popularity also when Meen was just a tnder age of five her family hosted a mysterious visitor a fortune teller The Woman made an astonishing prediction about the little girl's future telling her you will leave Ireland one day and become a very famous woman known all around the world end quote but the prophecy held a for boing tone too she added but it will all slip through your fingers One Day end quote despite her delicate appearance young Marine was far from the a typical girl of her age earning the nickname baby elephant due to her plump frame she was a little thick girl when she was little she was a townboy also at heart she loved outdoor activities like fishing horse riding swimming and even soccer she loved playing games climbing trees and even was trained in Judo during her teenage years she also tried to be one of the people to create one of the first woman's soccer teams but it just didn't happen in Ireland it just didn't happen but reflecting on her childhood or Hara admitted her Envy of boys and the freedom they had she was outspoken almost to the point of rudeness and wasn't one to take discipline lightly she said and I quote I was a blunt child I didn't take discipline very well I would never be slapped in school if a teacher had slapped me I would have bitten her end quote her love for performing began at the tender age of six when she recited a poem on stage the thrill of standing in front of an audience sparked an attraction that will last a lifetime she trained in drama music and dance along with her siblings at the Ina Mary Burke School of drama in Dublin and by the age of 12 O'Hara had already grown to an impressive height of 5' 6 in her mother worried that she might become the tallest girl in Ireland and deemed too masculine because of her square jaw however O'Hara only grew another 2 Ines much to her mother's relief as Meine O'Hara transitioned from a girl to a young woman the pressure of the acting World began to weigh on her her Carefree childhood was replaced with a growing self-consciousness that lingered in her performances it was during one particular performance when her father sat watching from the back of the theater that she experienced an overwhelming feeling of scrutiny I sensed there was someone out front watching me perhaps critically my arms felt like lead I gave a rotten show that night I grew up with a terrible feeling that I was being laughed at end quote she confessed O'Hara's first Venture into the world of Cinema was Walter Ford's kicking the Moon around 1938 but she didn't count it as part of her filmography her first significant role came in Alfred Hitchcock's Jamaica in where she starred alongside Charles Lofton the movie Marked a turning point in her life and on returning to Ireland after filming she realized that her life had changed drastically the local girls who she tried to engage in Friendly you know friendships relationships with accused her of being arrogant because now you think you're famous you know all of a sudden she felt friendless and alone she started to befriend men more and we will see that in her later years she had a lot of male friends but girls just didn't really want to hang out with her anymore and during the filming of Jamaica in O'Hara began dating a producer named George H Brown while Brown was smitten with the Irish Beauty O'Hara's feelings were lukewarm when she informed him about her departure to Hollywood for her next project The Hunchback of Notre Dame which is my favorite film from her just because I love the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame a so Brown resorted to Desperate Measures to keep her close he bombarded her with frantic calls pleading for one last meeting Ohara reluctantly agreed only to walk into a surprise a wedding orchestrated by Brown shocked and cornered the 19-year-old O'Hara went through with the unexpected ceremony what would you do if a guy just surprised you with a surprise wedding on your last visit I definitely think morina orara suffered with some people pleasing as we will continue to see in her life especially with men because she didn't want to marry him she regretted it but she fell Corner didn't want to hurt his feelings and just went on with it and there was a lot of that in her life you know impressed by O'Hara's performance in the Jamaica Inn Lofton cast her opposite him in the Hunchback of Notre Dame in 1939 for RKO in Hollywood she along with her mother sailed to New York in the RMS Queen Mary and then traveled by train to Hollywood and upon her arrival she was thrust into the spotlight attracting attention from the press and Hollywood Society even before the film's release this made her uncomfortable as she felt she was being celebrated for something she hadn't yet achieved the situation took a turn for the worse when Brown the one who you know forced her to marry publicized their secret marriage the news did not sit well with O'Hara's Hollywood bosses who were Furious about the surprise wedding brown was so happy to be married to her that he started announcing that hey I'm married to the most famous girl from Ireland feeling trapped and desperate for Escape O'Hara complied with her Studio's orders to stay in the US while Brown waited for her in Ireland and during this time she had her marriage quietly annuled and after their wedding day O'Hara never saw Brun again in the Hunchback of notra Dame O'Hara portrayed as morala a gypsy dancer who is imprisoned and later sentenced to death by the Parisian authorities the film was a hit and O'Hara quickly became a favorite in the industry her fiery red hair expressive green eyes and vivacious green presence captivated audiences marking the beginning of her illustrious Hollywood Journey the young Starlet Marina or Hera's Hollywood Journey was not without his trials and tribulations though her next venture was the film a bill of divorcement directed by John Pharaoh The Experience proved challenging as Pharaoh reportedly made explicit remarks toward towards O'Hara and even stalked her at home when she rejected his sensual advances he resorted to bullying her on set fed up with his harassment oara finally put an end to it by punching him in the jaw in her early Hollywood years O'Hara found herself stuck in films with either lackluster scripts subpar directors or both and it may have had a lot to do with her punching that one director in the jaw the fustration was mounting and she contemplated breaking her contract and returning home in a last Stitch effort to salvage her career she pleaded with her agent for a role in John Ford's upcoming film how green was my valley her plea was successful and she landed a part in the film O'Hara and Ford formed a professional Bond collaborating on five films over two decades Ford developed an unhealthy obsession with O'Hara which fluctuated between infatuation and violence he would pin long drunken love letters to her confessing his longing and dreams about her one such letter read God I long for you I dream of you your face is constantly in my dreams yet his affection often turned cruel he once punched oara in the face not behind closed doors but right on the movie set in front of a whole bunch of people who did nothing they did not come to her aidara endured this treatment believing it would prove her resilience and show Ford that she could take a punch like a man despite Ford's volatile Behavior the film was a critical success garnering 10 Academy Award nominations and winning three including best picture it always seems like the worst directors usually make the best films right they'll win all the awards but behind the scenes all of them are horrible horrible demons H just disgusting in 1945 O'Hara started in the Spanish main during this period She faced false accusations from an actress named Katherine who claimed that O'Hara had made sexual advances towards her in an elevator O'Hara believed this accusation was merely a publicity stunt by Katherine to gain attention at the start of her career and also people who didn't really like O'Hara just wanted to spread something because you know she had like square jaw she was a tomboy so people just wanted to push that narrative out there that she could be into girls but the rumors that O'Hara was actually into woman never quite went away in O'Hara's final film of 1947 the foxes of Harrow saw her playing a Creo woman alongside Rex Harrison the pair shared a mutual dislike from the beginning with ohhara finding Harrison rude vulgar and arrogant Harrison reportedly beled in her face during dance sequences and accused her of anti-Semitism as he was married to a Jewish woman at the time O'Hara strongly refuted these allegations despite their personal differences variety praised their onscreen chemistry stating they executed their dramatic scenes with surprising skill it seems like none of her male co-stars really liked her that's just a one of her most significant collaborations was with director John Ford and he was the one that punched her in the face so she ended up making five films with this guy O'Hara's fourth film with Ford the long gry line proves to be the most challenging their once cour relationship had died significantly he deliberately provoked her rudely ordering her to move her fat Irish ass and their relationship hit rock bottom when O'Hara allegedly caught Ford John Ford mhm in a compromising position with an actor on set she caught him kissing another male actor so he wanted to sleep with her but also was M Ford was aware that O'Hara suspected him of being a closeted homosexual reflecting on their tumultuous relation relationship ohhara confessed for years I wondered why John Ford grew to hate me so much I realized now that he didn't hate me at all he loved me very much and even though and even thought that he was in love with me and quote Yeah she definitely had people pleasing cuz girl no no and maybe he wanted to start those rumors about her liking other women or making advances towards women to kind of like if she ever came out and you know told people what she saw him kissing another male actor people wouldn't believe her and think that she was just deflecting from her own lifestyle cuz you know back then it was like very taboo and despite her struggles with Ford O'Hara held her own in the Mel dominated Hollywood industry known for her forthrightness she earned a reputation for bossiness of course of course she would John Wayne her frequent co-star and friend once affectionately described her as the greatest guy I ever met and John Wayne was one of like her main friends in Hollywood he was actually a good good friend to her she shared a strong bond with Wayne with both Stars known for taking No Nonsense from everybody cuz he had similar you know temperament as her he just would not go for the nonsense of Hollywood he would not take the nonsense oara also maintained friendships with powerful Studio heads like Daryl F zenok and Harry con but you know the rumors about Harry con he was Notorious for being the nastiest man in Hollywood and touching on the young actresses you know it was okay so it was weird how she befriended him knowing what she stood for so I didn't really understand that but these Executives respected her for her honesty and boldness despite her fiery temperament O'Hara was a nonsmoker who avoided the typical Hollywood party lifestyle she maintained a relatively moderate personal grooming routine and help conservative views about onscreen behavior and in her early career she refused to smoke or drink on screen relenting only when job opportunities started drying up oar's prudish attitude towards sex and refusal to posee for skinly clad photographs earned her reputation as a prude in Hollywood she explained her stance by saying I come from a very strict family and I can't do some of the things other actresses can because my folks in Dublin would think I turned out bad end quote despite these challenges ohhara felt that her refusal to compromise her values cost her rol she once lamented I'm a helpless victim of a Hollywood Whispering campaign because I don't let the producers and directors kiss me every morning or let them PA me they have spread around town that I am not a woman that I a cold piece of marble statuary I wasn't going to play the I wasn't going to be a victim of the casting couch that wasn't me end quote Yeah they were really spreading it thick those rumors about her O'Hara often felt overlooked for meaty roles due to her beauty she believed that producers often mistook her good looks for a lack of talent which resulted in her missing out on edgier rol she was one of the few resses during her time who resisted undergoing plastic surgery despite the industry's pressure her natural beauty and refusal to conformed to Hollywood standards made Marine O'Hara an unforgettable figure in the annals of Cinema now in terms of her relationships in December 1941 Meen O'Hara married William Houston price an American film director known for his work on the Hunchback of Notre Dame she lost her virginity to him on their wedding night a decision she regretted instantly her thought at that moment was what the hell have I done now it did not take long for O'Hara to realize her husband had a serious drinking problem the couple had a daughter together born on June 30th 1944 however their marriage soured throughout the 1940s due to price alcohol abuse O'Hara often considered filing for divorce but felt guilty due to her Catholic beliefs eventually price acknowledged their failed relationships and filed for divorce in July 1951 sighting and compatibility from 1953 to 1967 ohhara was involved with Enrique perah a wealthy Mexican politician and Banker they met during a trip to Mexico in 1951 as her relationship with power developed she learned Spanish and even enrolled her daughter in a Mexican School Ohara moved to a smaller property in belir in 1953 and often visited Mexico City where she and perah were celebrated celebrities she even hired a detective to ensure parro was being honest about his past relationships John Ford the director she fre ly worked with disliked parah intensely of course he would this strained her relationship with Ford as he often meddled in her Affairs and disapproved her divorce from price and being a devout Catholic like O'Hara price also continued to harass O'Hara for dating parah and filed a custody case against her in June 1955 accusing her of immorality O'Hara countersued him for contempt of court for failing to pay child support in alimony just before the court case began a strange man approached O'Hara he claimed that he had evidence that her ex-husband was actually gay and he even offered to testify for her so she won that case in 1955 while promoting the long gry line Ford insulted O'Hara and her brother Charles telling Charles if that horror sister of yours can pull herself away from that Mexican long enough to do a little publicity for us the film might have a chance at some decent return in quote on July 9th 1957 oh filed a 5 million lawsuit against Confidential magazine over allegations it made about her being engaged in public sensual activity with parah during a film screening at Gran's Chinese Theater in Hollywood and many people felt like John Ford had something to do with that with confidential reporting this because he really did not like this Mexican quote unquote that she was dating and in a racially dating was still weird for a lot of people during that time so they weren't too happy about Mar orara dating this quote unquote Mexican but one of the allegations was Marine had entered grommen wearing white silk blouse neatly buttoned now it wasn't end quote so she could have just thought the shirt was too tight and unbuttoned it and what would be a problem if she left and one button was undone right but the thing is O'Hara wasn't even there she wasn't even in the theater on the night that they were accusing her O'Hara proved her innocence by presenting a passport showing she was in Spain shooting fire over Africa at the time she became the first actress to win a case against an industry tabloid when confidential was found guilty of Lial and conspiring to publish obscenity when I say industry tabloid that's what it literally was there are tabloids made for the stars for publicity those same tabloids can turn against you and they start to destroy you too when you piss someone off who's higher up and so you just start to see where are these rumors coming from where is this coming from and she was one of the first stars to successfully sue confidential confidential was kind of like I don't know who I can compare it to today but just think of like the worst tabloids or the worst like blogs that just just lies and salaciousness on these people they were the worst of the worst and they lied on so many stars to the point where it led those stars to the brink of depression and even taking their lives so a lot of Hollywood stars supported her also for this and I really think John Ford did that or other people that she just didn't want to be with they just wanted to destroy her but eventually her and parah ended up breaking it off because it was just too much it became too much and he became distant he was very depressed and then he was dealing with the death of one of his daughters so they just ended it but on March 12 1968 O'Hara married Charles F Blair Jr a pioneer of transatlantic Aviation former General of the United States Air Force former Chief pilot at PanAm and founder of the United States Virgin Islands Airline and's airboats unfortunately Blair died in 1978 in a plane crash after an engine failure but she they were madly in love following his death O'Hara was elected CEO and president of the airline making her the first woman president of a scheduled airline in the United States and in 1978 Hollywood's fiery redhead Marine O'Hara was dealt a crushing blow when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer the Dreadful disease required a major operation where her uterus was removed and or dilda would have broken lesser spirits but O'Hara was a fighter both on and off the screen however the health battles didn't end there the legendary actress suffered not one not two but six successive heart attacks the onslaught of these cardiac events led her to undergo an angioplasty a procedure to unblock her arteries and restore blood flow to her heart years later in May 2012 another Scandal rocked the Final Act of oar's Life her family raised concern with social workers alleging that the Beloved actress was a victim of elder abuse Ohara who was then grappling with short-term memory loss found herself in the midst of a storm she could barely comprehend and by September 2012 after securing her doctor's permission to fly O'Hara relocated to the United States she left her native Ireland behind and moved in with her grandson in Idaho trading the busing City for the Tranquility of the countryside O'Hara's Twilight ears were marred by Health complications she she battled type 2 diabetes a condition that required careful management and lifestyle modifications her short-term memory loss also persisted adding another layer of challenges to her everyday life then on October 24th 2015 Marine O'Hara one of Hollywood's most enduring icons passed away peacefully in her sleep her home in Boise Idaho which had been her sanctuary in her last years became the sight of her farewell she was 95 years old so she lived a very very long life O'Hara was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia an honor reserved for those who have served their country she was buried next to her late husband Charles Blair reuniting the duo in eternity her life has been a saga of resilience passion and unyielding spirit and she left behind a legacy that continues to inspire and I am just inspired by her because I've done so many other videos on women from that era that just went outside but not only did she get to live a long life 95 years old but she accomplished a lot to be running an airline company is crazy right and she stood up for herself a lot and she was so good at her craft that's what I say be so good that even your haters got to give you credit and they have to work with you she was so good at her craft that even though the likes of John Ford and these other actors and directors did not like her they could not stand her because she wouldn't sleep with them they still had to hire her they still had to work with her because she was just good at her craft she would do her own stunts and the Hunchback of Notre Dame she did all of her own stunts I'm talking about when they wrapped a noose around her neck there was no net underneath her to catch her if she fell or anything so she was known to have a lot of bruises on her body I just think she deserves her flowers in the comments and you know there's a funny well it's not funny but there's a story that she was even almost kidnapped in Ireland when she went back just to rest and I really think it was just Hollywood messing with her like these people were messing with her so she went back home to Ireland to rest for a bit and a car came to her house and was like Hey we're picking you up to go to this event and she was like I don't remember having any prior commitments to go to any events I didn't book anything I'm like here to rest so she had her peoples send them away the driver away and turns out like it was an attempted kidnap all along and then after that they just tell her come back to was so you could do this movie and she was like wait y' don't even care that I was almost kidnapped yall just worried about the next movie no sympathy at all but I do believe that they used to do that back then maybe they were trying to scare her into coming back to America they didn't want her to take a break cuz she was like a cash cow okay but comment below your thoughts and don't forget to leave some flowers in the comments for her comment below who else would you guys like me to do a video for and make sure you thumbs up this video if you like the music you're listen to the link is in the description I love you guys so much thank you for tuning in until next time
