Matt Chandler on Finding 'The One'

so one of the things I get asked about often in fact I get in a lot of trouble because I make some jokes about it is this idea of the one I mean does God have one person for me and so oftentimes may make the joke that that if God had one specific person for you that ultimately someone messed that up a long time ago like if you could marry the wrong person that means you married someone else's right person and if you start kind of backtracking on that throughout human history there's just no possible way in 2000 15 16 17 18 19 20 whatever that we would even have the options available to us to marry the right one anymore and so I kind of make that joke in jest and there's two things I'm trying to accomplish there when all said and done I do believe that God has the there was a one for me that that God gave to me and that one is Lauren Chandler Lauren Walker when I met her and the reason I know she's the one for me is that we're married and so as soon as we turned and faced one another and an exchange covenant vows right regardless of what comes sickness health riches poverty right happiness frustration I'm doing it with you the moment we did that we put rings on our each other's fingers and we covenant it before God and our friends and family members in front of the church that that's when when I knew Lauren was the one for me now before that I was walking in biblical wisdom or at least I hope I was walking in biblical wisdom around what I really needed to fulfill what God had called me into in ministry and life and so now I think the reason I kind of want to tackle this idea of the one is because I think a lot of Christian singles feel paralyzed that that if they don't find the exact right one then their whole life's going to crumble and I just don't think that that kind of weight should be put on this idea of the one I think that has much more to do with Hollywood and and romantic comedies than it really has to do in regards to God's sovereign design and call on our lives
