Matsumoto Castle & Omicho Market (Kanazawa)! Japan April 2018

take two varchar a trip to Japan in April 2018 or therm we enhance our just for a couple of hours this morning then we're getting on the train to go over to Matsumoto but we come this morning Tommy show mark aired a very rainy outside quite a lot we're very lucky because ami chose underground underground undercover it's one together la underground and I think it's largely fruit and veg market I think we're gonna go around and have a quick look for an hour or two and then we're going to go over to the station Canizales station which is now one of my favorite stations in the whole world and get on the train anyway come along with us in the fun and hopefully it's also gonna be non [Music] they have wasabi that's what it looks like looks like ginger doesn't yeah amazing oh this stuff I absolutely love while our be machi will I be machi this one is called and usually put sort of like a a dog sugar syrup on it it's so good I have seen a lot of fugu here in Kanazawa seems to be a fugu town or at least place where you can get fugu I'm pretty scared about fugu only plus I Simpsons episode that's it I probably shouldn't base all of reality of the Simpsons but fruit in Japan is so expensive but it's also the most delicious fruit I've ever tried in my whole entire life its massive and extremely juicy it's amazing because Unni there which is sea urchin I'm a bit hit and miss with Unni I like it with soy sauce if you ever have that the best thing to eat it with the soy sauce by itself it's a very odd flavor now scallops are like a go for they look awesome I think this is one of the famous croquette places or if not the famous croquette place it's a croquette of foods are covered in panko breadcrumbs they're really really good I think I have a pumpkin one here vegetarians you may be able to have it it may be made with chicken powder on the outside I don't know vegans definitely not I know they use an egg wash in this it's not for you but that's the pumpkin one there if you want tips on how to ask us something contains meat let me know I'm very very happy to tell you I'll put a note down down in the description so that you can see exactly what to say also people have a little bit more adventurous fried oysters kaki fry our really popular here in Japan and yeah you can get them here as well they're delicious slightly different to what we used to having or how we used to Isis being served its grilled fish clips unbelievable check that out 250 yen oh my god mark buy four of them and this is ill the he looks amazing 4,000 yen for one eel must be good eel there's a 6000 yen crab there must be a tasty crowd nine thousand yen crab that's a really expensive car looks like we're getting into the fish market section haven't seen this much fish since qiji it's crazy there's lows of shellfish she things over here under those crabs and stuff and languish Dean I'm gonna pretend I know about what things are called and also sea snails what were you going to sail you tuna or inside of tuna cute they are ginormous they are that is a really scary creature I don't even wanna think about it the sea is a mysterious place full of delicious things this is amazing you can buy your clothes here as well oh it's a proper market you can get everything umbrellas clothes fish and expensive crabs let's type the onions in the center of the screen well radish it's a radish in there they always remind me of Super Mario Brothers to write him carrying it around Liam you found alcohol store good job good job Liam let's go in because I want to see if they've got any beer oh I bet they don't but let's have a look anyway yeah there was that you could just buy the dark one we're here drink that on the train yeah might be in like old man on the train drinking old woman on the train during love the giant sake bottles they look amazing look at this I just don't know any of them our friend of Mines sake expert Japanese she knows all the good stuff but they're just so beautiful to be honest if I was buying any hair I'd probably just pick one that was a decent price and just hope that it was good or she use one hands I'm really cool on the cob oh wow that's amazing actually buddy - hey guys [Music] Wow we are at the station again this ugly guy assorting us out with some tickets to Matsumoto he printed out this little thing actually it tells us exactly when our trains leaving here arriving at Nagano and they're getting a train to Matsumoto interestingly Google actually told us to get a local train but this is a fast one so we're gonna get that one instead sorry she no no booty Funabashi 7 av ok I guess I must say he does yeah we're going to pick up some food for the journey probably use the convenience store and then also to get probably some achim and achim entire station bento and also some onigiri as well with Liam McGeary and there's actually very good thing for vegetarians is you can usually wants a pretty decent vegetarian and aguirre this is amazing they've come to this rice ball place onigiri place sometimes I could on the soupy places by the way if you're looking for them in Japan they're gonna be called onigiri places or or musubi places you see here this anybody can read cats Connors musubi it's just another word that they use for onigiri this is amazing look at this dunno if you can see but they put absolutely loads of them and every single one is marked in English and whether they are vegetarian will not vegetarian that's unbelievable look before rice would think of mustard leaves non-vegetarian for whatever reason and over there one that Liam is just grabbing that is on the bird that is umeboshi so pickled plum inside of a rice ball it's a completely vegetarian it's marked so as well awesome I'm so impressed really I just have never seen this in any in any rice cook place in the whole of Japan I've never seen this it's great oh yes to the Shinkansen entrance Shinkansen often has its own entrance in Japanese translations solo you want to look out for it we usually be the blue one blue means speed obviously [Music] we left at 10:56 when we get there at 12:30 - oh my gosh yeah no that's 86 minutes or so so an hour and a half and then we've only got four three one minutes on the next round all right better get eating buddy got 86 minutes to get through already Gary I love these macadamia I think they use [Music] now they've got green tea whitener [Music] that wasn't much of a review I think I moved it [Music] thank you guys [Music] it wasn't mountains and then that was maybe you will get to see them again haha for me it wasn't like the Karoubi dam area mountains Caribbean mountains really sorry mate very pretty [Music] [Music] forget how much I like the station as well all of these big stations are really nice on this line here Midori oh I remember this place yeah Maruyama where well yeah that's it oh yeah and that mean yeah I'm a feet a mixer headed yeah the beautiful station I really like it we like we did like nagging oh we have this is a nightmare before we stayed here for a few nights when we were visiting the Jigokudani monkey park it's well them it's weather monkey onsen is where they have the snow monkeys and they bathe in the onsen throughout the year we actually went in summer not in winter it was amazing so he was so good I wasn't looking at that time sorry I hope to do that journey at some other point in the future which would be good but yeah anyway agarose cool place this is what a coffee place looks like lady just asked me to my order and write it down on this bit of paper here I think I'm gonna take it up there to pay and I think she shouted my old over got a pretty intense coffee machine over there then this is gonna be pretty good oh yeah look at that nice and acidic or lovely it's Randy and he's pretty high that's a really good it's really nice you know this is actually quite a dick you might others funky music you're back inside the station and we are now waiting for our train just inside it's little bit nippy on the platform so we're hanging out down set this train that we're getting is a limited Express train on the Shinano line which is going to maximize own the limited Express trains will almost always require you to have a special tickets are to rise on them it's kind of weird because they call themselves limited Express and not Express trains when I first came to Japan I always brought an express train was like the fastest version and then the limited Express was the next faster version I don't even think they have actual Express Express trains I've never seen an express train anyway if you see a limited Express train or trainers is labeled as limited Express you're going to need to get to ride on it if you are or if you have sorry if you have a Jo farmers you can get your limited Express tickets for free or as part of the price of the day as the Jo part so you can just go and to a regular ticket booth speak to one of the people there and just get a limited it for us to get for free but you must have want to get on to delimit Express trains don't just try to get on it so that's our train it's the little bit limited expression you know or on the limit Express that's going on the shinden o line and its final stop is Nagoya but we are getting off way before boats leaving at 1 o'clock wow this is our train this is amazing it's already here I'm not sure if we can get on it think Liam's gone to find our thing this way yeah ok cool it looks a little bit like an American train I will it's a tiny little soba shop on the platform it's amazing people are getting sober to bring onto the train and eater eyes about lunchtime so it's probably a really good thing to do oh wow now all these all trains are amazing oh my gosh that's cute [Music] we've been in tunnels the ages and I want to use the Internet [Music] the truth think I've been on a train before actually I gave one of the rapid Chuo line [Music] so this is maximization a lot of foreigners in Kanazawa but it's not even bigger but this is it I suppose it is a pretty small town queued in there it's also got a middle read apartment store seems like all of the big stations and a genome might may have one or is it a nagging a department store people from Nagano please tell me where does Midori originates as a department store I know it's a color it means green for everybody who doesn't know anyway we are going this way we are staying at another hotel to me in and yeah I could see it to pepper we're staying at another hotel domion we're staying at the hotel doorman in Matsumoto it's my favorite hotel chain so let's go good I'll see yes we're in door meeting in in maps moto I will show you around Oh room it looks exactly like the room in counts out you watch the vlog when we were when we entered into the room in our hotel in Kanazawa this is the same hotel chain door me in which I absolutely love mostly because they always have an onsen a bath house on the top floor of their hotel the room looks incredibly similar incredibly similar so just quickly because we have to get going soon this is our room we got big bed which is nice it's actually pretty sizable sometimes these double beds aren't really double beds lavatory shower that we never use because we always use the onsen so we never use the shower but it is here it's pretty decent we also have a little wash lit area which I have already destroyed tiny little space for actually smart it's pretty decent space for hugging up just the clothes more than we had in the last place that's cheap and that is our desk area right we got to get moving so yeah I guess I'll see you guys in a bit it's a bit windy I found the river here beautiful Matt's going to town which took a walk through they have rather wide streets but it's pretty quiet beautiful clock on the top left if you can see a cherry blossoms everywhere it's lovely look at the giant toad God oh my god that is an amazing statue I will one so you don't know we don't have view of it yet we haven't heard of you really at all oh actually I can see it I can see it over there so just here to the right hand side there seems to be people giving tour free tours in English if you're interested and I tend to do touring at our own pace so and we're not going to do a a tour guide today but if you guys prefer to have a tour guide in English they are available and just go over there as you come into the entrance if you're approaching from at Schlueter town i am going to take photo from here because it looks pretty amazing view right now I turn you around so you can have a look look at that guy's isn't that amazing that's my castle this is one of the biggest and best coasters in Japan and for whatever reason I've just never ever been here it's phenomenal to finally see it well let's get some of those Instagram shots and then let's have a look around that's amazing I think we go in round 2 the ride and then we might be able to get up there I think I can see some people walking along the top floors that's amazing I don't think I've seen a course without colouring I like it there you go let's get a better close-up oh my god it's so cool right let's go in and take a look around the small northern Tower especially in dojo collapsing in case of a major earthquake that has been close to her since July 15 2017 be sure to follow this off evacuation instructions shouldn't earthquake occur scary yeah there we go 610 yen and 300 pokey we're trying to work out how many times this castle has fallen if it's fallen at all it's very very common for castles in Japan too and fallen due to earthquakes they got burned down sadly womp it was bombed with a rush to my castle the only castle that was bombed one for definite and it generally they've fallen down and had to be restored some of them just where in general wear and tear I mean these buildings largely built out of wood and they've had to survive hundreds and hundreds of years and the mayor and it seems like from what we've read matsumoto castle was largely been standing for an incredibly long time at 300 400 years or something like that the original castle was built in 1593 it is incredibly well fortified because during that time it was a feudal time there was lots and lots of factors going on at that time so it's very very well fortified bits of it were added afterwards and there's a moon viewing spot and other such things those buildings aren't as well fortified naturally because there was peace had become and so pisa derived piece of gum and so there wasn't so much need to fortify those particular buildings yeah it's quite unique because it's a huge ear oh I think I've got that right here oh dear which means a coffee which is mountain or Hill it's amazing has a bit backlit at the moment not sure you can see might get another view around the other side I love it it's imposing glare so dark it's amazing you said it has a mascot oh my god he's cute oh I love it why is it so pretty oh is an amazing picture take it take it now that is the kick-ass photo good job guy this is a nice entrance here so this is the entrance into the castle sort of have this other keep here I think this might be the bit that we're not allowed into I think we'd probably go in there and get head straight left and I will be amazed if you're able to take shoes in here okay no you're not you have to take your shoes off so guys just remember if you come in shoes are gonna have to come off at one point so make sure you give your feet a nice good wash oh my god guys these are really steep steps to get in here I'm not entirely sure what are accessible this is yeah I need to watch that if you come in what have you found are we shooting people through here with arching oh oh I see the pewter pretty good can you guys see good Archer won't be able to do some more damage from here one hand is holding the sides or cuz they are steep stairs I read in Japan guide that the stairs are really steep and they really are they say this passage well this floor is called a Musha by Sheree it's it's a wide flu which allows samurai to run through it in for Lama it's a passage of the floor this passage I guess that makes sense so samurai could run previous in full armor I thought it was Safari no archery how do you know that okay I thought you're a really intelligent and it turns out you just read a plaque with Liam said these long ones are for archery archery that's not weird is it this one is for a stone throwing no this one is for muskets that one is for stone throwing there you go you just see that was making a lot more sense there's people are pointing up the walls you just chalk a boulder then why not I trying to get into my castle level for chocolate ball don't you look at that that's pretty cool ah did you see a lady in a mat in a kimono with the cherry blossoms so the council has undergone some restorations it does not need to be fully rebuild but it's confusing restorations makes sense it's made out of wood of course it would need to be restored at some point apparently the one in the shut the restoration during the Showa period was between nineteen fifty to fifty-five here's an example of one of the stone builders they took out at that time vo more super-deep stairs let's go oh my gosh I don't know why I'm showing you guys this there's nothing to see and it's a nice embarrassment of how long it's taken me to go up these stairs second floor those are some baskets the cost was actually largely designed to protect us against firearms the walls are 20 to 30 centimeter thick specifically to protect against four are on fire fire Amba gun fire samurai out there I'm always surprised at how small they are he doesn't look very happy to be wearing it on the right hand side yeah they are known although wonder how much they protected against gone from the staircases seems to be steep by design which makes sense really is good to be your enemy has to work hard to get to to get off them they're also separators there's no lead from one end to the other it's probably another thing by design to make sure again that your enemy on race up to whatever's in the top floor okay so here Liam's gonna go up the 41° stairs now he leaves about 180 centimeters tall so he's making light work of it other people aren't having the best time all right it's my turn and it's no photography allowed on the stairs I've got to put you away which makes sense because otherwise likely to fall right I'm up I think I've climbed easier mountains so you can see these aisles are pretty narrow the ones downstairs required for summer I don't think somewhere I get up here in that paloma but on we go as we are gonna go right to the top we are the Lords of to this castle today oh that is a nice picture Wow look at that look at that beautiful red bridge my gosh that's amazing this is a lovely place we made it to the top it's 200 - its twenty two point one meters above the world and areas windy here every single window is open north-south east-west which is pretty cool I just explained to us about how it was 400 years old this console and they're hoping to get 500 in 2094 so 2094 they'll have this this five 500 year celebration which is amazing apparently a goddess is enshrined in the castle ruth with 500 kilograms of rice and because that rice was daya fired and the castle has survived to this day that hindrance that we came from round to the right hand side we will pass them straight up towards the console this is my favorite it's just beautiful and see a little bit of them right down to this way or so that scrapes you on a limb um you can see a little bit right down in this way but out here you get a good view of those fish there's a chi it's often that you'll find Shakti fits decorating a castle a shot chief issue of a tiger and the body of a fish and their service to the lord of the castle from fire i think so we're protecting the castle from fires of a water god that protects the castle they usually replaced during restorations and and the ones from the previous are sort of the previous era and then end up in museums and such I absolutely love them I think they're cool no really kick-ass that was great I loved it pretty good for three hundred and ten yen each don't you think swam 610 yen each yeah Matt's voice a castle brilliant I'm glad we came all the way here tomorrow we are going to kiss Ovalle so we're using this as a base to
