mechanics material requirements for spells for example player i cast firebolt diem okay you're going to need the eye of a sad newt the last breath of a red wormling a petrified dino turd with exactly eight kernels of corn and the vial of strat's jews how the [ __ ] do i find those randomly okay and if i get those i can cast it yes but only once what if i miss can i cast it again only if you have the materials jesus christ i mean is there anyone that's not a psychopath that uses material requirements i mean if you do and everyone at the table agrees with doing that obviously then it's fine but i would like to know why you're doing that to yourselves and just then he realized he had [ __ ] up pimi brick half work second level barbarian been at me human artificer triton bard and sort of a new dm we're walking through a tropical jungle of sorts here twigs snapping three panthers initiative is rolled i attack the biggest panther with my fire axe it's dead artificer shoots another panther crits it also did bart uses vicious mockery makes a yomama joke about his now dead mom jesus diem describes the panther looking sad the entire party out of character goes oh dm matters the entire party proceeds to try and tame the panther i like that it's somewhat wholesome if that makes sense i mean they killed its parents but they didn't kill the last one itself at least it's but i don't think i think it should be really difficult to tame it after going to that fight with it and killing you know its parents or whatever the other two panthers were the edgiest sort of dm playing a game a few years ago in an incredibly grim dark setting that the gm made up absolutely over the top edge tier party is a bunch of people that were frozen for a good number of years and had been collected for research quote unquote but we managed to escape back out into the world the world is a total tip ruled by evil completely without any good in it to like an extreme degree my paladin doesn't care for this and as we go about he's making small measures to try and improve things where he can the gm keeps trying to make him stop or fail by having people constantly taking advantage of him trying to kill or fool him and presenting such awful scenarios along the way that just don't vibe with the paladin like a literal human farm eventually sorry what the [ __ ] i just processed that last sentence jesus christ dude eventually find the safe heaven cathedral of my religion and god yeah i already feel like this is going to be a trap figure we might be making some progress because a literal angel comes down to bless me and my dwarf shaman bro get a quest to go slay some demon in the area for the angel go do so and come back to report our success turns out the angel has been ambushed and now he's controlled by the evil faction and is wearing an iron mask that the wizard says is forcing us to attack her me and the dwarf bro refused to kill her in the boss encounter after and when she's down we work together to pry the mask off her face with all of our strength i call upon my god to give me the strength to save this one we roll exceptionally well and the gm proceeds describing glee and deep detail how instead of tearing the mask free we rip her entire head off with gore and blood all over us ah okay dude what the [ __ ] man i really okay i mean it's not exactly the same concept but i really hate when dms choose to punish you when you roll exceptionally well when you're trying to do something that they don't want you to do or that you're not supposed to do or just some random stuff like i remember a story a while ago i don't know if you remember it or not uh about a guy that wanted to drop a child in a play-like way the dm made him roll strength he rolled 20 and the child is not part of the campaign anymore let's just say that i know it's not exactly the same thing but that's the first story that came to mind after reading this one and obviously i know i'm not a great dm myself but i don't know it just seems to do that how to deal with horny players i'm sorry i'm imagining it like a wikihow article right now i'm gonna get off track for like a few seconds i don't know if you're familiar with the random wikihow articles but this could definitely be a title for one of them bdm one player is an elf druid flirts with literally every female npc funny at first but it gets really old really quickly this behavior becomes so predictable that i get an idea party goes to a busy pub to look for a criminal contact introduce human barmaid horny elf immediately rolls a charisma check 19. barmaid tells him to follow her in the back room the rest of the party continue doing the actual quests he goes into the back room the two of them are alone together there's a private bar with pristine stools but no drinks on display the barmaid says that she is going to get fine wine out of the cellar barmaid goes into the cellar while the elf investigates the room middle-aged human man emerges from the cellar door why don't you please take a seat there player sits on a stool what are you doing here tonight he says he's just flirting with the barmaid and how old is this bar made he says he thinks she's around 30. so you think it's okay for a 2 000 year old elf to make sexual advances towards a 30 year old woman player says yes well there's something you need you because i know i've read comments before of people that go through these videos and watch them or listen to them to get inspiration for their campaigns aenon is a barmaid reading a bunch of old school modules thirsty barmaids come up quite a lot flirty smiles shy looks etc basically assuming that the party mostly consists of male humans or at least half elves with maybe a token dwarf not an unreasonable assumption back in the day picture trying to run one of these modules to a modern d d party a band of garishly dressed freaks enters the tavern the poor barmaid swallows in fear and disgust they moved quickly her eyes dart from one horrific beast man to another then at the horned half demon that would probably eat her soul finally she approaches chooses the least unappealing of the lot and manages to strain a smile please be gay please be gay please be gay the script must be obeyed the script must be followed her life is hell you don't play games wizards new spell bimmy wizard be not me party fighting a beholder the dm knows that my utility spells are overpowered and he constantly puts cone of anti-magic pointed at me time to try my new homebrew spell the dm looks confused he doesn't allow homebrew send custom spell to roll 20 chat through dagger materials required one dagger which the spell consumes make a spell attack to a single target within 60 feet dex is your spell casting modifier for this spell deals 1d4 plus your spellcasting modifier on hit critically hits the dm laughs so hard that he says the beholder turns off anti-magic for two rounds okay that was creative but we also have delete goblin material is required one warhammer and one goblin within 5 feet which the spell consumes barbarian player used to use it all the time webb copy and paste an anime backstory video player has been playing a wizard up to level 7 randomly messages me between sessions asking if his wizard can go off doing something else while he brings in a new character ok i guess he says he wants to play a rogue i've had to deal with a lot of homebrew with this group so i'm relieved i ask about the character he says that his character is a thief who needs to steal enough money to buy his hometown back from a tyrant cool idea i don't actually watch anime so i don't know where he got this idea from he proceeds to straight up tell me which anime character he's ripping off word for word links me to the one piece wiki and tells me to read that if i want to know more about his quote unquote character nice try mate i'm still not going to watch it aenon wonders what constitutes a dragon the local dragon slayer's guild is getting real sick of peasants identifying every random serpent and wyvern as a quote-unquote dragon thereby wasting the guild's time and taxpayers money but wyvern is the type of dragon sweaty okay well if they didn't want to deal with this kind of maybe they shouldn't have split off from the monster hunter's guild should they now you opened this kind of worms now lie in it implying that snakes aren't baby wingless dragons damn city folks sure are dumb hungary scary dude new dm attempts a mock battle bimi eventually going to be dm be not me five people talking to each other over discord one of them is the dm of our first dnd campaign lovedit.jpg decide to plan a campaign homebrew modern day aerial campaign set in america with magic and tech i talk about it in passing to others they support it and most of them have character ideas before a week has passed thanks guys that jpeg start working on the mechanics of the campaign [ __ ] it that mp3 i let everyone have a feed from the get-go including homebrew i [ __ ] up that jpeg already seeing why some dms don't like homebrew feats well [ __ ] it we're doing this now decide to run a mock battle i'm still new to role 20 dming so may as well get some experience everyone brings their characters i throw planes at them and we have a fun time one character in particular the old dm hasn't really done much in the battle staying hidden and making feather dagger things which is a racial thing two of the free planes i threw at them are down one of the characters is at -1 health rolling death saves still it's looking good for the characters the health is balanced for how quickly i threw them together my face went turn 4 the old dm's character deals 300 damage at level 3 he destroys the plane so hard that the missile's missiles detonate almost killing an already down character but he rolled good on the deck save so he's alright my face when he was plotting this the whole damn time still it was a fun battle though and everyone liked it i can't wait for session zero well i'm glad that in the end people are having a good time because that's
