let's take a quick look at the United States Marine Corps special operation command Raiders and their command structure units people training and missions Raiders are the special operators within the Marine Raider regiment of MARSOC the marine Special Operations Command which is the Marine component of us SOCOM all Raiders belong to the marine radar regiment which consists of a Headquarters Company in three marine raider battalions first Battalion is located at Camp Pendleton California and second and third Battalion are located at Camp Lejeune North Carolina the regiment is commanded by a full colonel and the battalions are commanded by lieutenant Colonel's each battalion has four Marine special operation companies or M socks commanded by majors each company has four marine Special Operations teams or M sots commanded by a captain each M SOT has 14 Raiders requirements for being able to show up for the first day of training included GT score of a hundred and five or greater strong moral character maturity sound judgment honesty a secret clearance you must pass a medical screening test earn at least a 235 on the marine physical fitness test and have the ability to hike 12 miles with the 45 pound load in under three hours Raiders must first attend a grueling assessment and selection phase assessment and selection though physically demanding also requires potential operators to demonstrate the ability to solve problems on their own candidates are evaluated based on the whole marine concept Rader candidates then attend a nine-month individual training course called ITC which is run by the Marine Raider training company or MRTC the MRTC administers advanced training and education and special operations as well as the basic language course these language capabilities coupled with cultural knowledge make marine Raiders effective and valuable resources on and off the battlefield the training of marine Raiders does not end with ITC marine Raiders will continue to develop their skills through dozens of special operations and advanced skill courses to include advanced language training advanced sniper training CQB technical surveillance dynamic entry tactical acquisition and exploitation advanced IOD jtac training unmanned aircraft system operation training advanced mountain warfare and advanced driving skills the primary missions of the marine Raiders include direct action special reconnaissance counterterrorism foreign internal defense security force assistance counterinsurgency combating weapons of mass destruction unconventional warfare okay so there you have it an executive summary of the MARSOC Raiders I met my first MARSOC Raider in Afghanistan shortly after they were established my first impression was that this guy was too by the book and that his haircut was way too short I was right about both we spent two months working together in the future operation shop at headquarters about a year later we were both back in Afghanistan he was a MARSOC commander and I was the Special Operations Task Force executive officer my friend the Raider planned and orchestrated a full spectrum special operation in one of the worst cities in all of Afghanistan he planned it and set the conditions for about a month the fighting lasted only for a few days and immediately after the fighting stopped he executed dozens of support operations Civil Affairs missions and medical and humanitarian outreach projects when I said that my friend was by-the-book he was what he did was textbook perfect within a week his city went from being one of the worse in Afghanistan to one of the safest people were literally celebrating in the streets markets and schools reopened his efforts changed the lives of thousands of people almost instantaneously well done brother MRSA traders are some of the most disciplined and well trained operators in the world thanks for watching don't forget to subscribe in two-for-two a friend who also needs to know this life is a special operation are you ready for it [Music]
