>> VINNY: We need to get in the basement. He's a sex offender. It's like a leopard. They don't change their spots. One of the street cops saw him with a weapon. He's not going down easy. >> MICHY: There's someone at the door here. >> LENNY: Don't knock. >> MERCED: Can't afford to waste our time. He needs to go back now. >> LENNY: This guy's dangerous. We gotta think on our feet. Police! Police! Captioning sponsored by A&E TELEVISION NETWORKS >> VINCENT: Here we go, another day. 6:00 on the button. Timing is everything. I've been a member of the task force since its inception. My group within the task force handles the most serious parole violators. Most of the guys we chase are sex offenders. No room in society for sex offenders, at least not in my mind. On my spare time, I'm a chief in in the volunteer fire department out on Long Island. We're always running, you know? Fires at night, fugitives during the day. My feet hit the floor, I'm up. Yo, what's up, buddy? Glad to see you're here at 0-dark-30 in the morning. >> MERCED: You're not the only one to get in here early. But I didn't want to get out of bed. >> VINCENT: Yeah, tell me about it. Got a few minutes? I want to go in and talk to Lenny about this new case. >> MERCED: Sure. >> VINCENT: See if the chief is in here. >> LENNY: I'm here, Vin. I can hear you. Here's trouble. Why is the A-Team in my office this morning? >> VINCENT: We got a new case we're working. We want to do a brief if you're available. >> LENNY: Absolutely. What do you got, Vin? >> VINCENT: We got Quadri Garnes. He's on Most Wanted Web site, which is how we ended up with the case. Got a pretty violent past. >> MICHY: Do you have a picture? >> JESUS: I'm gonna hand out the photos I got here. He's about 5'11", 190 pounds. >> LENNY: Carries guns, likes to fight cops. >> MERCED: This guy does a little bit of everything, so he's unpredictable.. >> VINCENT: Right now he's wanted for parole violation. He's originally on parole for possession of a loaded weapon. Back in '04, a uniformed cop sees him in the streets, got a gun in his waistband. Cop approaches him, Garnes goes crazy. Starts punching, fighting, kicking the officer. He pleads guilty to the charge, get three years in prison. Comes back out on parole. Did a year and a half on parole, then he stops showing up to his meetings. He still owes us five years. Additionally, he's also wanted for failure to register as a sex offender. >> MICHY: What did he do? >> VINCENT: A few years prior to the gun incident, he went to rob a female. Winds up grabbing her by the throat, sticking his hand in her mouth so she can't scream, lifts up her dress and then shoves his hand inside her. Guy's a real piece of crap. >> LENNY: What's the plan? What are we gonna do? >> JESUS: He's got two resources: his mother and his grandmother. They both live in Brooklyn and they're in the East New York area. >> VINCENT: We're gonna go on the premise that he's at either one of those residences. >> LENNY: These be places you want to hit simultaneously, I take it. >> JESUS: That's a good idea. >> LENNY: All ght, we'll meet tomorrow morning in the great borough of Brooklyn. Sound good to everybody? >> VINCENT: All right, guys, thanks. >> VINCENT: All right, troops, Quadri Garnes, sex offender, he's on parole for robbery, possession of a weapon. We're gonna hit a bunch of addresses today. >> JESUS: Locations we're gonna hit is the subject's mother. The mother's in the basement downstairs, street level. Also we want to visit the grandmother. Split up the teams, hit the two addresses at the same time. >> VINCENT: His last offense, guys, one of the street cops saw him with a weapon, approached him and a big brawl, a big fight ensued. Let's go. >> LENNY: We're going after this fugitive, Quadri Garnes. We're gonna go to Mom's house. Vinny and I will go over there and take care of that place. Merced and his team are gonna go over to Grandma's house. It's good to hit these places simultaneously. He's not at our place, Mom picks up the phone, calls Grandma; he's in the wind. So we're gonna knock it out together. (siren blips) >> VINCENT: Most parolees, they run, they fight 'cause they've all spent time in state prison, and they don't want to go back. This guy, he's a sex offender. It's like a leopard. You don't change your spots. >> LENNY: As police officers, we're the first line of defense in these communities. So when a fugitive like Quadri Garnes assaults a police officer, we take that real serious. >> VINCENT: This is the street. We got another team set up on the other residence. You guys set? >> MERCED: 10-4. Yeah, we're approaching the grandmother's house now. (knocking) >> VINCENT: Police! (knocking continues) >> AL: Police department. Who else is home right now, ma'am? >> MERCED: We gotta clear this place. >> The house is clear. >> AL: Okay. He doesn't live here, but he did use this address at some point. When was the last time you saw him? >> MERCED: Was he by himself? >> MERCED: You gave it to him? >> MERCED: So, he never mentioned a girlfriend or anybody he's staying with? >> MERCED: Is he living with your daughter? >> VINCENT: Basement light's on. >> LENNY: There's a window and a door right here that looks right into the downstairs apartment. >> VINCENT: Is it open? >> LENNY: No, but I see him. You got a photo? Let me see, let me see. Hurry up. Phew, man, that's close. The target apartment male fits the description. I can see him in the window. Right in front of the TV, sitting on the couch. >> VINCENT: He's here. We need to get in the basement. (knocking) >> JESUS: Police! Police! Police! (door creaks) >> LENNY: The door's open. Hands! Let me see your hands! It's not him; it's not Quadri. >> VINNY: His room's clear. Quadri's not here. >> LENNY: We're here looking for a convicted sex offender-- Quadri Garnes. He's violated his parole, so he's running around in this community somewhere. We're at Mom's house hoping to get some information on his last known whereabouts. Get anything out of Mom? >> VINNY: She claims she don't know where he is. >> LENNY: Ma'am, we're here to help him. If you're trying to protect him, then you got to let us know where he is. The longer this drags on, the worse it gets. We're going to find him sooner or later. We just hit Mom's house. We hit a dead end over here. >> VINNY: He's going to get more desperate as time goes on. Who knows what he's going to do. He can hurt one of us, he can hurt someone else or he can get hurt himself. We got Merced at the grandmother's house, so let's hope that works out. Maybe they're making out a little bit better. >> AL: When was the last time he called? >> I don't know. The last time he called me, it was, um... Monday, Monday. >> AL: Monday? >> Yeah. >> MERCED: Can I see that? >> It was Monday. >> MERCED: Pull down missed calls. I have two called on caller ID. Yeah, take these numbers down. One of them must be Quadri's. All right, ma'am. Next time you speak to Quadri, tell him to call us at this number so we can end this once and for all. >> I sure will. >> LENNY: What happened at Grandma's? >> MERCED: Very nice lady-- sweet old lady. She doesn't know too much. We managed to get two phone numbers from her house. One of which we believe is his. We're going to have to run those numbers and see where they lead us. >> VINNY: Somebody's got to be putting him up because he don't have the means to take care of himself on his own. He's not working. He's got no money. >> MERCED: Maybe with a girlfriend or something. That's usually where they go. >> LENNY: Do some juggling, do a little cross-referencing. We got two phone numbers out of Grandma's house. >> MERCED: Quadri... >> LENNY: We're going to cross-reference them with Quadri's parole records and we might be able to piece together somebody he may be hanging with. >> VINNY: The answer's got to be somewhere here in the record. >> MERCED: Just keep digging until you come up with something. >> VINNY: We come up with a girl named Lateesha. Lives in Brooklyn. Same age. Are you seeing this stuff on Lateesha? >> MERCED: Yeah, I got the same thing. >> VINNY: Maybe it's a girlfriend. We need to hit Lateesha's apartment in the morning. >> MERCED: What's the worst that can happen-- he'd be there? >> VINNY: Yeah, right, that'll work for me. >> MERCED: Is Vinny here yet? >> LENNY: It's the old "there was an accident on the Southern State" story. He's about five minutes out. >> VINNY: I hate being late. It's like a pet peeve of mine. But when there's traffic and you got an accident, that's the end of that. (siren blaring) >> LENNY: I don't want to rub it in, but Vinny... Speak of the devil. The parole boss has arrived, and you're going to get run over. >> VINNY: Oh, I hate being late. >> MERCED: We had faith. >> LENNY: Thanks for showing up, Vin. All right, now everyone's at work. You want to just brief us? >> JESUS: I think I have a possible address for the girlfriend. Her name is Lateesha. >> LENNY: What's her deal? >> AL: No criminal history. She's one year older than he is. So it looks like a match. >> LENNY: A match made in heaven. >> VINNY: Just to remind you, this guy fought with PD last time he got collared. So he'll roll, so... All right, let's get over there. I'd hate to miss him because I was late. Here we go. Oh, my heart, you're killing me. >> LENNY: We're heading over to an apartment where we believe Quadri Garnes is laying his head. Apparently he's there with his girlfriend. We want to be kind of quiet going in because this guy's dangerous. He's got a history of violence with the police, and the last thing we want to do is spook him. >> VINNY: This is a game of timing. If he went out to go grab something, we could've hit it ten minutes sooner. I can't tell you how many times we get there, and the guy's actually getting ready to leave. >> MERCED: Let's see if we can get in the door. >> VINNY: Do we invoke the fifth floor rule? If he jumps out of the fifth floor, he deserves to get away? (laughter) >> LENNY: Uh, it's a pretty big building. >> VINNY: Let's go upstairs. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. (knocking) >> VINNY: Police! Open the door. >> JESUS: Sir, what's the name of the family that lives here? >> JESUS: I'm looking for this person. >> VINNY: Take a good look at this photo. >> It's a duplex. >> MERCED: Got duplexes in this (bleep)? >> MARSHALL: Yeah. >> VINNY: It seems like we got the right building, but the wrong apartment for Lateesha. If Garnes gets wind that we're here, he's gonna bolt, so we got to move. We got to cover this door. >> MERCED: Yeah. >> VINNY: Then why don't you come with us? Perdue, you got a radio, right? >> LENNY: Stay up here with Perdue, cover this door 'cause he could come in and out of this door, too. Our suspect might be in the fourth floor apartment. The problem is it's a duplex apartment, which means it has two floors, so we got to cover both the fourth and the fifth floor. I'm gonna leave Michy up here on the fifth floor. Vinny, myself, and Merced-- we're gonna go down to the fourth floor and try to get into the apartment that way. We got to be cautious with our approach because we want to have a good reason to believe this guy's in here. >> MERCED (whispering): You can see into the apartment from here. >> LENNY: You hear anything yet? >> MICHY: Listen, there's someone at the door here. >> LENNY: Okay. Vinny, she can hear people at the door on the fifth floor. Stand by. Don't knock, don't knock. She said to wait. >> MICHY: ...one of them is Quadri and he tries to escape. >> VINNY: We think our subject, Quadri Garnes, is staying here with his girlfriend, Lateesha. >> LENNY: Mike, Mike, you want to go up? There's only two. I'm gonna send one up there. >> VINNY: The problem is this apartment is a duplex. There's two entrances. Me, Lenny and Merced are on the fourth floor, and Michy is up on the fifth floor. >> LENNY: We're good. Okay, let's go. >> VINNY: Police. >> JESUS: Are you by yourself? >> VINNY: We have to clear the first floor. You want to go upstairs? We got to check all those closets. The house is clear. A lot of people in this duplex, but Quadri and Lateesha aren't in here. >> MICHY: They're clear. >> VINNY: Who is Lateesha? Is that you? You're not Lateesha? >> LENNY: You don't know if he's ever been in this apartment or not? >> VINNY: I'm not seeing anything. >> LENNY: It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. There's got to be over 70 apartments in here. Garnes is somewhere in this building. We don't know where, though. >> VINNY: You know what, we got Lateesha's number. Why don't we ring that number and see if we hear that coming from any of these apartments? >> LENNY: It's the only shot we got of getting this guy today. >> VINNY: All right, let's go. >> FEDERICO: Shh, shh. >> Listen up. >> FEDERICO: We got people all over this building trying to call Lateesha's phone. >> MICHY: Call. >> FEDERICO: Hopefully we'll hear it and we'll know what apartment to go to. (cell phone ringing) >> VINNY: Hello? >> MIKE: Hey, Vin, it's Mike. It looks like Lateesha's name was misspelled in the database. I got a new address for you. 188... It's definitely the same girl that you're looking for. >> VINNY: All right, we got it. We just caught a break. We got another address for Lateesha, which is like five minutes from where we are now. We got to bolt over there and hit that apartment. We'll follow you. >> FEDERICO: Follow the Batmobile. Let's go. >> VINNY: That's a great thing about the Task Force. You got everybody's expertise working to do the same thing. >> LENNY: We got no time to set this thing up, so we got to think on our feet. >> VINNY: We need to grab this guy. He fights with cops, and this guy knows what jail is like. He doesn't want to go back. >> FEDERICO: See what we come up here. >> JESUS: Okay, it's on this side. >> AL: Police! >> VINNY: Pull him out. Quadri, come on out here. Don't move. >> Turn around. Put your... listen. Turn around. >> VINNY: Hey! Don't give me the hard look, pal, it don't work. >> Stop moving around. >> JESUS: Stop resisting and follow our commands. Are we clear? >> QUADRI: Yeah. Stop pulling on my arm like that! >> JESUS: You stop ...listen, you relax! >> It's not gonna happen. >> QUADRI: Come on, man. >> Sit still. >> LENNY: Even I can catch him if he runs with these on. >> VINNY: Yeah, right. >> QUADRI: All right, you got it. You win, you win. >> VINNY: Are you just figuring that out, we won? >> He was resisting with those cuffs from the moment he got in them to just now when he got in the car. >> VINNY: And then he figured out that we won. Unbelievable. >> LENNY: Vin, we won, man. >> VINNY: We won. >> MICHY: Good job, Lenny. >> LENNY: Huh? >> MICHY: Good job. >> LENNY: Huh? >> VINNY: Good job, good job. We finally put this thing to bed. We don't need him doing what he did to anybody else, so it's good that we grabbed him when we did. We got him; it's over. We're done.
