oh they have an incredible relationship they're really madly in love okay okay I love you too we are Paula and Steve and this is Rick's story for geobots we are Apex protection project rescue advocacy and education organization dedicated to protecting wolves and wolf dogs we rescue captives on his exotic pets this is Rick's Riggs escaped his owner traveled 50 miles and ended up dumpster diving surviving on a dump for a while being an Oklahoma a lot of people think they can just go into the wild and live like a wild wolf like they've never been taught by their parents to do that they don't know how to exist especially in Oklahoma so three months he dumps to die went into people's backyards and ate their dog food and things like that her family found himself in his backyard in an illegal County and was Dirty by Animal Control he was terrified we got a call about him he had 48 hours before he was going to be euthanized it was a 19-hour drive and so we rushed out there to get him originally we'd heard that he was a girl and turned out he was a boy come on Rick stay with the pack he is mutual he's what biologists call a black face playing hide and seek with rigs I'm hid behind the bush see if we can find this rigs come if this gray wolf coming out and being expressed more and more as he ages by the time he reaches his senior years he could very likely be your wife we don't know the interesting thing about the Black Codes is that geneticists discovered that the black coat actually is from an ancient domestic dog about 10 000 years ago that made its way into the wild gene pool come on rich and they've been holding on to this Gene and passing it down through generations because it provides them a very strong immune system we also thought he was a low content wolf dog meaning very little wolf mostly dog and he turned out to be a wolf but he is the complete opposite of what wolves generally are he's still very Wily and skittish but he loves being around people Riggs has an amazing Rico the full wolf Riggs come the cool thing about Riggs is for men working work dogs because they tend to be more shy of men than women and Riggs doesn't have that yes he's so bonded with Steve it's definitely a father-son relationship you're so good wolves they they nibble and kiss each other's lips oh I kiss him [Music] he likes to put my hand in his mouth he doesn't turn it really likes to hold it I guess he's like holding a hand they don't have hands hi hi he treats us like he treats other wolves and I don't think they understand that our skin is a little more delicate than theirs being led by you is painful I meet a lot of people where they say they've just loved wolves for some reason ever since they were little and they don't really have much of an explanation I am one of those people I've always been drawn to them I just knew that they weren't these vicious aggressive scary creatures that everybody was painting them to be rigs come Riggs personality is so special because he's got Peter Pan complex he doesn't want to be the boss of anybody but he doesn't want anyone to be the boss of him yes yes she's her stinky little brother in the back seat who's always picking on his older siblings rigs leave his stop annoying people he's so political you push them to the edge and when they get mad at him he goes we have this pretend agility course here let's see how good he did you ready be so playful be so strong and powerful same time his enclosure has 12 foot high fences in it because he can get over anything yeah he bonded with us so quickly they don't come to you for treats they stay with you because they care about you they trust you and it is me I mean I mean they are really intelligent we speak to them in full sentences and they understand everything we say I gotta talk to you we have an evacuation that I need you to Native Americans always used to say the wolf is the teacher and I used to think about that okay yeah that's something kind of quiet to say but when you really look at how they live they really are the teachers socially we live very very similar structures there's so much like we are the love they have for each other and the care they take of each other if we can live more like wolves we would be better off I love you too [Music]
