[Music] hello and welcome back today we're gonna be sculpting a male head as you can see on my screen the results gonna be different but we're gonna be using this as a reference and using someone else 3d models 3d scope is very amazing for leveling up your skills at sculpting so let's not wait for anything and create a cube i'm gonna use just the subdivision modifier add a bit of subdivisions and apply now let's go into the sculpting mode oh i have it a bit small so i'm gonna press s to scale it just let me turn on the screencast keys so you can see at the bottom up here let me drag the tools so you see which one i got selected okay so first we're going to start with the head shape it's not hard to see how the head is at the front especially have in mind these lines you can see on the grid you can easily try following them maybe it can be a bit confusing okay i see that my scope doesn't have symmetry so just turn on the x and symmetrize the model if you then see here is the arrow for symmetrizing okay now let's go into the side view as you can see the head is actually in the wrong side so let's put the head on another side so we can actually see what we're doing and just following it's amazing way to learn people think this is a cheating no this is learning this is how people learn because you train your eye to see how the shape should be and this way you learn a lot of things by just tracing and working over another way of doing is actually just having this on the side but not actually following it to the brim maybe having it moved a bit at back so we can see how it is but we cannot actually follow the shape completely and that will work perfectly fine for learning as well just making yourself easier is following it completely one by one ratio okay so oh i accidentally scaled it i'm gonna use press m for the masking and mask the base as you can see mail next huge it goes from almost all of the thickness of the head i'm gonna press a invert the mask and with the transpose tool just drag down and a bit to the side a clear mask and i'm gonna go shift r to use our beloved auxiliary measure remesh the mesh and just look how shapes are here and follow them doesn't look anything like reference but that's how we start working and that's how usually it goes [Music] let's pull the sides it's not like you must do but [Music] it looks better this way and [Music] it's easier to imagine the neck you don't have to copy one by one ratio to it okay let's go to clay strips [Music] and i'm just gonna change my madcap you can get these mad caps on my gumroad and just get them for free let me turn on statistics so i can see how much i have now it's with another mess so we only have 30 000 on this one [Music] let's see okay so this one is seven seven or thousand so i think accordingly to that we should have together more than a million if okay it's close to the million so it's fine for now i'm just gonna hold my shift to smooth and start forming the head so as you can see the male has a really prominent jaw which we're gonna be adding you don't really have to worry too much just see that it's somewhere in the between the middle let's just use quick annotations because i know a lot of people like them they are probably turn up in here okay so we have the head length and this is where the air starts our jaw ends and you can see it's almost in the middle and how i got here it's not in the middle but i don't worry too much about it i just draw it in what i worry most is just getting the right shape it doesn't matter how wide or small it is because with the grab tool i can change the general proportion very quickly just like this grab tool and i'm changing if you don't know how to set the quick favorites you can right click and add a quick favorites then pressing q you access the quick favorites and if this is your first time following my tutorials i recommend you a tutorial for beginners where i sculpt a cute small skull i go over slowly okay so it's nothing like in a reference but it's fine for now what i want to do next is shape the eyes so i can use scope draw usually the best acts as a shortcut i can see the eyes are a bit lower than the red line [Music] so i'm gonna do that i don't really have to worry too much again about how far in they are because the grab tool can fix everything i'm gonna script the side because we will build it up anyways and this way it will be much easier for us to shape the nose [Music] smooth it goes to the side we can see that the nose is pretty flat to the head and there's no curve in going in there's no ship go coming in like that the ship is building over it so while having that in mind [Music] i'm gonna drag over a bit maybe have this a bit curved in again if you're having a really big trouble following the shape i'm kind of flowing through freely on this so i know the results gonna be looking a bit different but if you want to have like one to one and learn everything from this then you can definitely have it covered over and just track the shapes on your scoped but in this case i think it's fine okay so we see this have a small entrance but the base of the nose is white now with the strips i'm gonna build the sides we can check how the sides are built and okay is this on surface no it's not and you can see that it has this type of roundness going which we can implement here and again i'm not worried how much i adding i just want to build a general shape and have a place for holes then with the grab tool we're still gonna have to go over and fix that scope [Music] okay now have this bumpiness you can remove annotations if you cannot see it and already i i can see that i'm a bit lacking mesh but i'm not gonna rush to i still need to build the jaw and the air so i'm going to do that pull the jaw and add the air before starting this tutorial i know it's a bit late but following my head sculpting tutorial will help you understand more than what i'm doing now now it's just show you how to follow how to learn and what what kind of things i look in the sculpt [Music] okay so at the front view as you can see that there's quite a lot of the air is visible [Music] so i'm not being too picky on how much i extrude it to the side again we can invert the mask and not hide it [Music] and fix the side of the air [Music] and with the clay strips i can add back the school which one i dragged out and we can even check the back if the image isn't a place we can hide it can drag a bit because the back of the skull as i told is a bit wider and we can see this so i'm not gonna drag that just but i'm gonna drag this in and the back of the head i'm gonna drag out now i'm probably gonna clear the mask first and i definitely can see that i need to increase polish a bit i'm not gonna go too much over i'm gonna save the file save your files always before applying voxel remesh with ctrl r i can see that i have somewhere on the half million you can have a bit more a bit less and let's keep building another features of the face so the mouth you can see how the lip drops almost 90 degree and goes in so we don't have to add a lot of mess here we're gonna still work with the grabbing tool and the masks so i'm gonna draw that over smooth and as you can see the shape of the lips is pretty straight as a line you may ask which line i'm talking about and it's this one as you can see lip is pretty straight line and even here there's not a lot of curve same goes for here not a lot of shape and it's pretty sharp i would still form a small bump now you can actually see that there's a thicker line going to the mouth and my mouth is way lower so i'm gonna grab my grab tool and just move everything higher i can see where the nose runs almost in this line [Music] and i feel like my nose is pretty close to where it is on the reference let's actually go back into object mode and bring my scope a bit closer [Music] so we can follow a bit more [Music] yeah we can even put it here let's turn off annotations go back to the sculpting mode so with the draw sharp i'm gonna i'm going to shape the top of the lip and the bottom and don't worry too much about the ship at the moment i just want to have things there so making the chin as you can see my chin is disappeared so i'm gonna add a lot of clay strip at the bottom you can even use a grab tool to make it a bit quicker use another clay strips to add more to the sides smooth and i think at this point we can add some ice i'm gonna use sphere go into edit mode of the sphere drag it on the side rotate x 90 and use the mirror scale it a bit down got the top view side view and just take a look how eyes are so far in the head and it's definitely not at this place it's somewhere here it doesn't have to be exact but if you want it to be exact you can have this model over as i told before and just follow it one to one ratio let's go back into sculpting mode and build another shape so as you can see the eyebrows are very big and covering the top a lot of the top on the side we can even see that it's pretty out in the front which we should try achieving okay and just copying the shape so when you copy someone's work you not exactly changing how your scopes going to be looking like but you can learn some things and try to understand why people do them that way and you you're gonna end up learning a lot i'm gonna select smooth tool and just go into smooth properties and i'm going to lower the strength of this move because it's been working too hard and destroying my shapes which i create so you can take this scope and look at this one how deep those eyes feel and again it doesn't have to be exact same you can still make it yours but if your stuff is not working then taking a great look and figuring out why another scope is working can be extremely helpful for your process all right so another thing let me add a new annotation you can see that the eyelid is huge going from this side and there's a huge shape in here and the top plate is just a small small little let go and and you can see there's not too much of variations of the shapes and the shapes are pretty sharp so you can see them up pretty visibly because it's a male now again if you have problems with topology i did another i mean uh anatomy then you can go to my email sculpting tutorial and follow the anatomy so you'll understand a bit more what i'm trying to do with a sculpt and why i draw lines this way and not another way okay let's go back to the side view and see that there's a lot of visible place while the side of my scope is blocked i'm gonna drag this a bit over take the draw sharp and try to draw in the red part of the my annotation on another scope [Music] so even if i don't really get it or i mean you don't get it what this is happening [Music] can still figure out what's happening especially if you're using another actual reference of the anatomy you can see there's a ring so this ring is probably here the shape is only separate in this place because of the eyelid and that's what i'm trying to do another thing you can see that mine is very round and this one is pretty flat so how to do that i'm gonna take the script tool let's scrape this one to be a bit more flat and sharp now let's pull back our eyelid because it's disappearing let's finish another ships while we go higher on the poll account another thing i can see that the line of the head okay sorry this line of the head this it's lag it's not straight and this one is a bit more flat and in this place exactly the head goes in this place you can see that the head goes in and on my scope it goes out so i grab the end of the air and drag it in as well as i'm still very not happy with my jawline [Music] as well as the length the separation so i'm gonna add more just draw sharp and mark the separation as well as use now crease brush to make this even more sharp and visible separation another thing you can see that this is so round as a shape it literally goes around and this one you can see big difference on this side so it's like very sharp cut which we should try to get in our scope so we're gonna be using now we're gonna be using crease and then stroke options i'm gonna add stabilize stroke and slowly draw the shape [Music] repeat it few times and smooth another thing you can see clearly happening on the scope [Music] is how sharp the line is as well as the separation and mine one is lowing which should which would be fine on the female scope but we're sculpting a male i'm gonna drop this down and add a bit more sharpness to that shape the air accordingly as well now i see my head disappeared add a bit more head add the scarf to the neck as well to the lip i see that my lip is way too small what i'm gonna do press b and cube mask the top as well as pressing it i can't smooth the mask a few times i'm going to drag this out as well as i look where the my nose end and this end and where the lip is i can see that my side is too small so i'm dragging this back as well from the top i can see this wave action happening and this one is a bit not as round so our teeth are round that's why our ellipse may come around the shape [Music] now let's just clear the mask with a inside another thing you can see that it looks like the guy had a lot of fat on the side it happened while we were forming the jaw now we're gonna scrape and have this sharper and as well as thinner line of the gel it looks much better now and just with the grab tool i'm going to shape it a bit more as well as i can still see a bit more action happening to the face and i can actually see the back of the skull i'm gonna drag the front a bit closer as well as the school end has the shape going in as you can see i want that on my scope too so i'm going to use crease and we still have stabilize which we're going to turn off and just crease to the side [Music] and it looks a bit better now we're gonna try to replicate this muscle [Music] as well as this [Music] separation this cheek line [Music] and this fat side so just looking at that i'm gonna draw those lines in okay a bit of the smooth now the side to the cheek what i seen a lot of people doing problems with even when i tried to explain it um from the air middle almost middle it goes to your cheekbone and this is a cheekbone so it has to end at at your cheek i seen some people's cheek ends at the eye and it's not okay it should be a bit different just remember that this is the skull and you can see this cheek going from the air to the cheekbone usually it's pretty straight it's pretty 90 degrees line but it can go a bit down and it's fine now i'm just adding a bit more mesh i want to make this eyelet shape more visible [Music] as well as the nose and that ice separation okay i think it we have a nice general shape in maybe let's just go over the air real quick and make it more like in the reference have a bump here so the air is more connected to the face with a draw carve in inside the air and at the reference we can see how the air is shaped and we can follow the chip and do the same on our scope okay so i'm gonna save the file again always keep saving and i'm going to increase a bit of the mesh now being a very careful and not adding too much because i know how how much it can lag for the computer a plank and this is a lot oh i probably have too much at this point almost a million seven hundred thousand eight hundred thousand is definitely enough but even this as a scope is pretty good [Music] i just wanna add a bit more details to the face which i'm going to decrease and form the thick eyelid the shape being very visible make the thickness even on all the sides all the roundness draw sharp and that's corner cut to the eye as well as here those annotations are blocking the view i can see my eyes way too big from the reference so going to scale it down go into sculpting mode and just drag the lid to the place where it belongs as well as the corner smooth now you can see how sharp the shape is and how round is on mine as well as the top not that visible it is pretty laggy so i don't recommend going as many posts as i have 700 000 is definitely enough [Music] now to achieve these heart shapes hard cus cuts close to each other you have to use mask tool we're gonna mask the toplet and a bottom lid of the eye mask should be harsh and now with the grab tool i can do a bit more i can actually clear a bit of the mask because it's too big so by having mask tool selecting and holding ctrl i can take a bit of the mask away now with the grab tool i'm going to shape it to be more angry now just keep in mind that getting a great scope takes a lot of time so if you want to have all the use from the scoped take whole day or somewhere close to that following the shapes playing with them and seeing what works i see there's inside of the nose following to the bridge of the nose let's do that on this one as well as the thickness of the nose looks very small in here and look how thick it is on that scope now if you have a problem where you can see this artifact let's just control back it's because the brush is affecting both sides and you can turn off that on advanced options and there is front faces only you turn that on and there should be no more problems okay we add more in here inside as well if you're lost in a process always just look at the reference and then it's going to be much easier okay so as you can see i'm just following the reference pretty much one ratio if i don't understand what's happening i look at the reference one image is not enough to have as your reference have a topology as well hello those ones help a lot now i can see that it has a sharp sharp shapes so i'm going to take scrape let's creep it up now i can see the lip has more mesh and different shape there's some sort of bump in here which we can find in a reference i'm adding mesh on the lip and really when you are so far in the scope it's a lot about playing with it and just looking what works i think i took like five seven hours of just playing on that head scope to get the shapes as i want and i was focused [Music] that's just now in mind how long it takes [Music] and how much you have to focus [Music] okay [Music] so as you can see i'm just following it and it still looks like the shapes are rougher in there and a lot of brushes and blender makes shapes look quite round so you can always use the script i like script that flat end is good too you can use both latin user usually tries to preserve the mesh and scrape just scrapes it away but i think that's fine in this case especially just draw over the shapes script script okay my nose looks way too open at the end i'm gonna drag it back to crease brush makes the line more visible more sharp not as smooth as well as with the control script i can shape this eyebrow just use a grab tool to shape it as it has more mesh mine just have a line so i i use clay strip add more mesh and then create not the surface i like so i'm gonna go to script smooth that looks a bit smiling okay now i add this one as you can see it has this line but usually this just to make the jaw more visible so i had these two lines one on the jaw one at the top of the i mean at the bottom of the cheek and a bit of the mesh in between so just that it has more variation and the cut doesn't look as deep shape the head maybe mine is a bit too thick and you can see how easy it is to change the thickness that's why i don't really worry about it that too much and really it is just focusing and working on it you see one thing on the scope you go ah mine one doesn't have that and then you make it you can look at the reference say oh right it's because of this okay let's hide the annotations and now it's very hard to see what actually is the problem but i can still see that my eyes are too small and really is just playing but this way you learn extremely quickly from other people that's why i followed quite a lot of scopes scopes from league from league of legends they have some free models released from the artist they follow on our station pinterest on some 3d model sites you can get some head scopes for free and just get them and learn from them and that's most important thing you you don't copy them you learn from them even even if your scope doesn't turn out same way it's still so so good for learning like you can see like small lines changes so much the shapes small lines everything looks so important and changes so much okay so we can shape the air and be done with the sculpt now following one hour tutorial is definitely not enough for you to learn probably it's going to take a few days but it's fine it's even better to do it on the few days than one day because after you come back on the next day you can see that you can be like whoa actually didn't see this because you look at it for so long your eyes get adjusted to it and you end up just being blind to every small feature that is happening and when you take a break on another day you can even do another scope if you want [Music] maybe i wouldn't scope two heads if i'm trying to learn absorb a lot of information maybe i would sculpt another part of the body but it's definitely fine to take your time do it another day [Music] and in the end you're gonna end up learning a lot okay so when we are this far into making the head it's always good now to measure and see what is the difference i'll have my head selected i can turn on x-ray and see what are the difference so this is the main and this is the mine and when i select the main i can see the outline is way different so i'm gonna go to the sculpting mode the x-ray is not that helpful and there's not a lot of things that i know which makes an invisible so it's hard to follow but if you move you're eventually gonna reach and that's um you should stop with the grabbing tool but it is important that you first do as much work as possible on your own and then at the end you can try to follow the head as close as possible and you won't be learning every single feature of the face this way but it will definitely help you to get the main shapes correct and the main main shapes are extremely important people always think that it's the small details but now it's usually the big shapes which changes most of how the scope ends up looking like and getting your big shapes correctly will help to improve your sculpting skills by substantial amount okay so i'm just following another scope and mine one is still not gonna be as good but let me just select and move it aside but you can see how much different it is now and it's still far but i'm teaching my brain okay this is how it should be and now i can just keep looking at the reference and see what needs to be fixed i see that i made my air very big [Music] what is the focal length as well as the screen keys are off sorry so yeah i can see my air is extremely bigger than on the reference and now i can work on this things again and the head looks already way way more closer than it was before [Music] and this way i'm teaching my mind [Music] how it should be [Music] okay still see that lips are very different shaped so let's work on that and following someone likeness or copying the scope will take way longer than usually sculpting but it's an extremely good practice all right let's now resize ice okay now i can see that i will have to push the lid a bit back because the top one has let's use the annotations again as you can see the tablet distance is this size and the bottom one looks a bit longer and as well as the distance between here and here is different so i'm going to push it back all right i'm going to use the crease brush to make the lid a bit more visible as well as crease the separation of the lid from there from the eye and at this point it is just tweaking as i told adding those few muscles would i missed before i see that this upper lip is way flat and mine looks a bit too round so i'm gonna go with square brush again as always and just scrape it down now some places it looks like the joys not okay usually following someone someone likeness takes about whole day [Music] and staying strong is the most important part okay so let's shape the neck now we can see how shapes are different i'm gonna try to make them smart similar with the grab tool i see that this part of of the neck is cut and mine has a lot of a lot of mesh in there so i'm going to use few tools just scrape that out and add a clavicle bone all right looks much more similar now let's see from another side house my head i see that the top of the head is a bit more flatter so i'm gonna flatten this out and the lip as well is dropping down and minus not so i'm gonna press b and have a cube mask and mask the bottom lip and now just drag this one so the shapes are more similar to the reference as as well as my top i mean the bottom lip feels a bit too big to the reference so i'm gonna press a to invert the mask and push my bottom lip back i'm gonna invert the mask again and just lower the top lip a clear mask and now smooth again i see this bumpiness which now disappeared so i'm gonna add i'm gonna add it back now looking at differences it's all good it's all about learning and if you learn the shapes but in the end your scope looks a bit different it's totally fine when i moved the forehead in i destroyed the eyelid now we can see a bit more waves wrinkles on the on eyelids i can do that just adding them in maybe they're a bit too visible so i'm gonna smooth and like i don't know something how should i do it um i turn on another scope and now i can clearly see oh okay this is how it should be and i think this is this is pretty much over yeah it's okay guys thank you for watching this tutorial and see you next one bye
