I could eat at a five-star restaurant and still crave my mom's food now it wouldn't be as perfect or professional but maybe there's more to a thing than the thing itself maybe the story behind its [Music] creation Now I want to rebuild the setup I want to do it without buying any new wood and I'm going to do it by taking care of this thing it's about 2 feet most of the books or games or whatever they only take up like not more than 10 in or 1T my idea is to kind of like slice these shelves in half and they would be a lot more useful than these are right now and then there are some boards here which are close to 2 ft as well and we can use that to kind of rebuild the table it's made up of two picnic tables just imagine all of these Were Somehow under here it was a big mess so that has to be fixed another thing is that it's not deep enough of a table you can see like the laptop's already at the edge okay so I've cleared out the shelves as you can see right now I'm going to start trying to like dismantle everything and take it apart now the annoying thing is most of the screws are like hidden under the shelf so I have to actually like flip it around and then unscrew it it's it's going to be a long day this thing is really heavy this is not the kind of work you should do by yourself I could just crawl through here ow oh oh look at this this is freaking Relic my brother and I our friend Dylan Gordon he made this little obstacle he painted it for us it's like a fingerboarding ledge this was 2015 right now he's like such a freaking amazing artist and you guys should definitely go check out his page so this is probably worth a lot more now so I'm going to clean this up and put it somewhere nice but for now there we go the value of the things that we make with our hands is immeasurable the lowbudget films the janky DIYs the songs without a semblance of Music Theory the imperfect things just a quick update I have taken out the middle section and now we just have these two shelves left so I'm going to dismantle them here inside and then I'll probably take them outside and do the cutting and everything there's this conversation about how pretty soon there's going to be a feature on your favorite streaming platform form an AI feature where you know you can just input a prompt and tell it like generate me a film in the style of Stanley Krick starring Buster Keaton and daero set in West Africa and it would like generate the most technically Perfect film to me it's perfect nothing it's like packaged fast food in a way it's it's just calories it's empty AI can create the thing but not the story behind the thing it's not just a book it's not just a shirt it's not just a ring it's not just a film it's not just a guitar there are stories infused into all of these physical things and to me they matter more than the things themselves a little drawing that my sister made when we were kids would mean more to me than the moon Elisa because I'm connected to it human beings are social creatures and we want to connect to things we want to connect with people and the people behind the things that we love and people are imperfect so we make imperfect things and it adds to the charm it adds to the mystery and it adds to the excitement we like to see the bloopers we we like to see the behind the scenes we like to see that things are made by human beings and what is a better way to represent our Humanity than and [Music] Imperfections there's no better boost to your self-efficacy and self-confidence than being surrounded by things that you made or things that you had an effect on whether it's a little crappy thing on your desk or a film that you made or a photo that you took or eating a cake that you baked it's just living well not exactly living but like concrete proof that you're capable that you are creative that you are intelligent that you are living that's everything to me it absolutely is [Music] everything whether it's a hobby you have or it's a dream you have like if the thing holding you back from doing it is you're scared that you can't like you don't have the skills or you're scared that it's not going to be perfect those are completely invalid fears they are real fears and there are fears that I deal with every day but they're invalid if you can't do something you can learn how if you want to do it enough you can learn how and Perfection should not be your goal you're always going to have your first thing your first film your first desk and you're going to make mistakes but you're going to learn from those mistakes so the sooner you make the mistakes the soon sooner you can learn from them just engaging yourself in something that involves you completely like involves your mind and your body like when I was building this desk I didn't think about anything for like 3 days apart from what am I going to do how am I going to build this how am I going to tweak that is it going to be strong enough and it's such a good exercise for like my mental health to just create something and just forget about everything else for a while and just see the work that you put in like almost immediately like it's like okay you screw something in and you see the screw you see the thing is join to the thing and you see how things are changing with your effort and a lot of things in life aren't that way like you can work really hard at a job or try and move up the ladder in some sense and you can do it for years and not feel the change even though things are changing but once in a while it's good to do something where you can feel your agency making a difference [Music] [Music] this is a different kind of video than usual I hope you guys enjoyed it and this table we built over here it's not perfect but I'm in love with it because we made it we made it just like my films they're not perfect but I'm in love with them because we used our minds and our hands and our hearts to make something and there's nothing more beautiful than that in the whole world [Music] I just want to encourage everyone to like get your hands dirty make something hopefully I wouldn't be um too busy gushing over it and not actually doing any work but yeah thank you guys for watching and see you next time [Music]
