hey guys and welcome back to Z3 cubing today I'm going to be making Mega Minx Force cubes [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you and here we go here are the finished Force cubes or forced dodecahedrins to be more proper now before I show them all off up close and try out the turning and all that I want to take a minute and just explain why I decided to make these now I've always loved the idea of force cubes if you don't know the concept is you take a bunch of sucralose cubes as many as you have colors on that puzzle so six for a cube or 12 for a dodecedrin you take all of those apart just like you just saw me do and then put them back together except you group all the similar colors together so instead of having one unique color per side you end up with all the green pieces on one Cube all the blue pieces on another all the red and another Etc now this used to serve a little bit of practical purpose back when stickerless cubes were not legal in cubing competitions but people like the feeling of Diane's stickerless cubes a little bit better than the plastic in their sticker cubes and so you take a bunch of stickerless Cubes take them all apart and then put them all back together like this just so that you get one white cube with the nice stickerless plastic put stickers on it and then use it at a competition nowadays of course almost a decade later we've moved on with better plastic quality stickerless Hues being legal in competitions and of course just much better turning cubes in general but the concept of force cubes has just always intrigued me I guess part of it is that I've always liked taking apart cubes and putting them back together so having some sort of purpose to that process was really interesting to me the first first cubes I ever made were way back in 2015 I had the idea of taking these semi-transparent stickerless cubes and making first cubes out of them so that you end up with these sort of semi-transparent Cubes tinted in all six different colors and the great thing is I found these semi-transparent stickers to apply to them which just makes them look really really cool well at least the uncolored white one looks really cool but the rest of them as what normally happens with horse cubes you add colored stickers to an already colored Cube say red and it just looks kind of black and so that's why upon my subsequent attempts at making Force cubes with the pyraminx and the scube back when the original stickerless versions were coming out I just left them on stickered because I didn't want to bother and yeah in addition to not looking great stickering also takes a long time even stickering my four force pyraminxes would have taken a while I can't even start to imagine how long stickering these would take so yeah that brings us back to the force megaminxes I wanted to do another Force Cube project but other than n by end so two by two four by four five by five Etc which didn't sound too interesting to me I had basically run out of options I mean a square one isn't possible given how the colors are arranged and I had already used up all the other obvious options so I just had to go to something a little bit crazy with 12 megaminxes it seemed a little bit out of the question at first but as megaminx technology moved on over the years to the point where you could get a decent stickerless Mega Minx for like eight dollars or less I realized that it might be more feasible than I thought yes it still is a lot of money to buy 12 of any puzzle but given how much everyone seemed to enjoy those previous videos I decided to go for it now it turns out that the mega Minx I did decide to buy the chi chihang s happens to be just about one of the worst possible choices I have ever seen for making Force cubes I mean it's a cheap Cube it turns decently all the pieces came apart fine I had no problem putting together the centers and the corners but the edges the edges were a big problem now just about every stickerless Cube I have ever seen has corners and edges that can be taken apart and reassembled into any combination of colors that you want so you could take any old white Edge piece and combine it with say any other red Edge piece or even any other white Edge piece like you do with making Force cubes the same is not true on these megaminxes basically they use a design where the edges are asymmetrical so one half the edge has studs that are sticking out the other half of the edge has holes and those fit together but that means that if you say have two lime green pieces that both have studs on them they won't go together now luckily across 12 different puzzles there was roughly an equal distribution of edges with studs and edges with holes for each color so it wasn't like every single edge piece that was white had holes in it that would be terrible so about eighty percent of the edges went together fine after matching the colors but the remaining 20 were just left with dumb combinations like three pairs of blue edges that all had studs on them and obviously wouldn't go together and so basically what I had to do is chop off all the studs with a knife that way they would at least fit together flush and then I just super glued all those Piers together the ones with the holes were a little bit easier because they already fit flush super glue those all together and after about an extra hour of off-camera work I finally managed to get all of the edges paired and ready to assemble another funny thing about making Force cubes is that all of the logos which are normally just on the white side all end up on the same Cube and so ideally you'll have something like a Lego sticker that you can just peel up but in my case the logos were of course printed on they all looked like this I left one of them on for demonstration purposes and you wouldn't think there'd be any way to remove them but sure enough a nice easy method is that you just take the center piece off get a bunch of sugar and then just rub the sugar repeatedly on the logo and eventually that'll be enough to just barely scrape it off without really affecting the plastic too much and that's what I did on all the rest of the sides of this Cube so that was another minor problem with choosing this megaminx in particular and the last thing which is kind of funny is that because it has this kind of sculpted design with sort of indented corners and edges you couldn't actually put stickers on this if you tried so in a way I have made the ultimate you useless set of Mega mixes not only am I choosing not to sticker them but I couldn't actually put stickers on them if I tried anyway I promise giving you some Impressions on how these things turn so let's go ahead and try one out I would say turns pretty well it's got a lot of Lube on the outside still from taking them all apart all that factory Lube but yeah I'd say it's a decent seven out of ten it's not magnetic probably wouldn't be my main but it turns pretty decent let's see was it just a fluke with the lime green plastic no I say they all turn pretty decent I probably could make the tensions a little bit looser too because I just made them all consistent but yeah I think they all turn pretty well of course when it comes to a puzzle that you literally can't solve turning isn't exactly my number one priority I mean I'm probably more likely to you know build a tower out of them than try and turn them so let's try making a tower I can confirm that they are very effective when it comes to megaming's Tower creation very nice anyway yeah I've gotten to the point of the video where I'm just making random stacks of puzzles so I think that's a good sign that it's probably time to end it but yeah I hope you all enjoyed that cool time lapse of me making these very interesting Force puzzles but that's pretty much it and I'll see you guys next time [Music]
