What was the something that made the glue crack? And what did the process accomplish?

Really cool, there's something about glass cutting/glass working that just really puts me on edge for some reason. Especially at the start when they do those long snaps. I suppose it might be related to the 3 inch scar on my thumb from picking up a broken bottle once...
I'll be honest, I assumed what the final product was going to look like before he finished it and I kept thinking this is a waste of time and money because you can order something similar on Amazon. I was completely wrong. That was absolutely beautiful and he's truly an artist. I'm not sure what that sold for but whoever got it better showcase that.
