listen I was gonna make something sure on but then they just dropped Black Swan I love all theaters so much oh stage lighting and the shadows there was no choice I was looking at the theater and I was like wow that looks very familiar this theater has had a lot of different movies filmed in it one of those movies in prestige one of my favorite movies of all time I just didn't have a choice anymore brief history lesson new Los Angeles theater it's actually in French Baroque style movie Palace designed by us Charles Lee they built it equipped to host both film screenings and live performances a lot of the ornamentation was made out of carved plaster and much of it was built off-site brought in and sort of puzzle piece together so the theater only took six months to actually build it opened in January 1931 the most technically advanced theater of its day there's so many different parts of the theater that are absolutely beautiful I did toy around with the idea of doing staircase Bart I saw the carpet and flesh bag you're gonna stop painting the floors I'm literally going insane so we are going to make the stage granted now I have other challenges that are arguably much harder pika-pika I started off making the structure you know what that means cardboard I always use that that I already have to determine the scale the first thing that I had to do was draw everything out cutting specific shapes for a bunch of the ornamental pieces from paper board to top curved pieces first and then the middle piece that goes in between them I also cut out the back piece that was essentially one layer above the curtain building up all the layers I also cut out pieces for the borders next to the curtains as well as the little ornamental corner piece three rank of scissors large medium and super-tiny after that I started painting this project mainly was just painting in a very intricate way the two top curved pieces the dark line first he did the darker color underneath and then the lighter color on top it's a pretty intricate design almost like Paisley I didn't really get that close to have a design actually the corner pieces ornamental swirly things the borders which had a diamond grid pattern we're gonna go in with our dotting tool I drew out the shape of what the floor of the stage would look like and then I cut out the stage then I need to raise it just made a base underneath it cut out a strip of cardboard and then bent it a little bit to the curved part of the stage I started making the stage floor I painted underneath it black first it's kind of like snot you honestly probably didn't want that image but I folded the bottom piece of the box and I glued right where that line was so that it would stay a metal song based on burning my flesh with the hot glue pen so I cut out a bunch of really thin paper board pieces gluing the pieces so it looked like wooden flooring then I glued on the base and I painted that black after the base had been glued on I had to cover this side so I cut out a long strip of bristol board I just wrapped it around varnish to the stage floor to make it shiny I wanted to put some of the we're on scored some marks where the floor maybe would have gotten scratched drawing a little wine where people would be walking and dancing on the stage the top of the stage just has a bunch of layers the back piece is metallic so I covered that piece with foil and then I had to mark off where the curtains would hang over it so that I can draw the proportions right painting the design natural ornamental swirly shapes and they are playing or something in the middle I'm doing my best here the back has pretty much the same Dimond grid pattern I don't know how similar it looks but so one of my favorite things about this style a lot of textural elements fringe at the bottom of the curtain this is quilting square fray the ends I couldn't fray all the way up the fabric obviously I just got so emo I fell apart so I went as far as I could took all the pieces that I had braid to layer over the top of that and then trimmed them at the bottom there's scalloped rope thing this tassel that I have it's a graduation rope if there's anything good coming from graduating using your graduation ropes and projects it's a lot wider in the middle and then on the side a lot more narrow making the tassels which big tassel two of these one of the pieces tie it put it to the side take the other one wrap it I have pretty teeny hands you could probably wrap this around like a pencil put that inside of the loop tightened it cut the longer ends of the loop this took me a very long time like many hours is it worth it I don't know glued them on in between in each space painted at the right color even if we get there by strange perhaps stupid means at least we get there in the end right mainly when on the colors for the music video gifs or attendant towards a greenish tint greenish can sort of add a little bit of uneasiness lots of gold's light yellowy orange colors I think in real life the colors probably are not very accurate to the part with that I honestly have been trying to avoid the silk mural fire curtain depicts events of the life of youth working I have scoured the internet for as many photos as I could possibly find for reference of this I've watched videos and he's gonna be really hard to paint this small I'm concerned this is some muslin that I stole from my high school art class six or seven years ago and has been waiting for this moment we have to do it in that size okay well I'm just like questioning my life choices right now but I feel like JK when he was recreating that painting but I still have it all but this painting it was just very difficult because I was painting it so small so obviously a lot of the really small details I couldn't get like exactly in there enough that you could kind of tell what's going on there's fabric to give them textures I could not do that because it's so small same method that I did the fake love masks adding some glue to give it a raised look wait for it to dry a little bit and then I score it sort of and then I'll paint over it getting the essence and the purpose there's only so much detail I can add to this just because of how small it is a full day of painting later and here we are after that I went and made the curtains that were on the side love the symphony's of lawn equipment I just took a piece of fabric folded it over and glued where the folds were this wasn't totally accurate I couldn't fold it as much I glued the painting on popery bronzy sort of color I put all of the border details on and I also went in and added the top of the fringe over the curtain painted that to match the rest of the fringe then I went back to working on the top I put the foil piece on and I started to make the base for the red curtains cut that out of cardboard so that I could just glue the curtains on to it these curtains I was going to fold them sew the ends together I just it just didn't look right I'm really ugly touchy roll I ended up just cutting fabric pieces smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller layering them all on top of each other so that it looked like the effect that I had to make the friend to the same technique really thin strips of the fabric braid the ends painted it hastily ends had to be Goldy curtains were red it really looked like a mess wringing the pain oh I glued all of those pieces on in the layering that I needed them like the wind that shakes the bow he moves me aside for sure then I needed to make the arch that goes around I drew an arch in shape cut it out from cardboard and I layered it over top I had to make support so that it would be a little bit sturdier well I try and figure out whatever the heck I'm doing with this give you some of my thoughts on the album bar as new songs think my favorite is louder than bombs it's good and of course I love Troy you use part gets me every time Black Swan one of my favorite one I understand why they released it as like one of the single shadow is a masterpiece obviously I like darker tone Tom it's mere bullet proof the eternal incredible some of the vocal on this album just like they just killed me they were so good there's a little section that's white on the top I cut this out the little scepter kind of things toothpick and some beads cut the toothpick to size with the video on to it ain't it I've artist the two top pieces attached to the scepters on to that start making the gold draped fabric does not drape when it is this small just cut a long strip that just kind of hangs over and I attached it painted it afterwards I painted highlights and shadows onto it try to mimic the draping in the middle there were also two folded end pieces folding a thin piece of fabric and doing the same castling building the outside arch there's sort of like a Rafi element I guess going all the way around I decided to use some yarn that I had it seemed like it was a pretty good diameter put that yarn all the way around and then painted it and then we had to actually make the archway a really thin strip of cardboard going around to give some height to the outside of it since the arch is curved I use thin strips of paper board curved up on to the cardboard around the edge the two sides are a little bit thinner than the top thinner pieces on the sides and then I cut some longer strips is also a middle strip in-betweens where the gap was afterwards I just cut the arch around in the shape that I actually wanted it to be I painted the whole thing painting in some of the really detailed little leafy things in each little square the pieces that layered on top of that that go on the inside they're sort of like half sun flowery ornamental things I wish I had better words to give you but I just don't and then in between them there's another little shapes you know when you have to hang cardboard on a hook that little piece that comes out you like that top section of the arch that's a little bit wider has another layer in the back another cat something that's a little bit more geometric for the final element of the arch on the outside edge there are oval ends cut a ton of really tiny ovals out of paper board not very consistent I just winged it through them all the way around which took a very long time glued yarn around the perimeter thin yarn first and then I went in again with IKAR yarn and added that around the edge the sides were very unfinished I covered the outside with cardboard to cover that in paper board to make it look a little bit cleaner I had started obviously with a square so I just cut off the end pieces problem that I faced then was does Amanda went ahead and used some wood pieces that I had as back supports where the ornamentation ends I used cardstock to continue in the patterns where the ropey sort of pieces ended I actually used pieces of a chopstick to make the rounded part then I had to make the side staircases which was a little bit tricky shapes that would fit in the gap between the stage and the end of the back wall curved triangle II I don't how am I supposed to describe the shape to smaller and smaller going up covered the whole thing in fabric so that it would look more like carpet after that it was really just final paint jobs right that'd take I want you to spend with me there's no promise okay I really wanted to make those wings if anyone wants to send me five thousand black feathers hit me up and I will make the winning sometimes you have to scale it back for a necklace with one feather so here is the final stage of [Music] be my birthday I leaned over to meet you Jimbo [Music] [Music] and so if she'll go to live on my shelf of craps which is apparently a thing now I'll put my fake love masks up on the wall which may be slightly creepy but I love it I gotta be honest with you this project was not easy it was a struggle I really wanted to make the two side pieces in addition I was like okay they did it in six months I can totally do the miniature version in six days and that did not happen that's it not happen at all well we got there in the end anyway right when I go into projects with big expectations I let myself down a lot when I can't exactly deliver this is the smallest scale that I've worked in so far I feel like I didn't quite get the shape of the arch right once you make one mistake early on you kind of can't really do anything about it you just gotta live with it it gives it character pretty sure that nobody's gonna do this but if you do and you want to send it to me please do I hope it was not a disappointment and I hope that somehow lived up at least slightly to the beauty that is the Black Swan with a video
