hello this is 3dx in this video i'm going to be creating a stylized pedestal type of model using maya zbrush and substance painter alright let's get started so first things is i'm going to create the main model here using maya and specifically using uh just box modeling which means i'm just using regular um primitives to create the main shape so i'm going to start by creating the pedestal and creating a book that's going to sit on top now in this case what i want to do is i want to create the book in its final form and for the pedestal itself i'm going to take that into zbrush and then what i'll do in zbrush is sculpt it and then later bring it back to maya to get the final model so here in maya this is not going to be the final model for the actual pedestal this is mainly the main shapes just to get started with it and then in zebras i'm going to weld it together using dynamesh and then re-import into maya and clean up the geo and then you do the actual uvs so that's a sometimes that's something that sometimes i do is i create the model in maya and then later on uh do some changes in zbrush bring it back and do uv's and have that as my low poly model and the reason i'm doing that is because i felt that it was a lot easier just to go crazy with the sculpting in zbrush and not worry too much about the the topology and ev's and then worry about that later once we're back in maya so one thing here i'm using is i'm using some curves and these are being used to have some like vines going through the rock and i'm essentially extruding a nurbs circle and creating some topology that's following the actual curve and that's a good way to add things like cables uh vines and things like that the nice thing is that it also comes with done uvs you don't have to really uv these and this is going to be uh like a plant so i'm making like a leaf here and i'm going to use this as my high poly all right so i'm going to bring this into zbrush now i did do a i did rename all the pieces just to make sure that they have the correct naming and here in zebras i applied a dynamesh to the pedestal itself and this way i can just go crazy with some of the modeling and you know make a few changes here and not to worry about things like uvs and uh just the topology for now since i'm going to do a um i'm going to reduce the uh topology here in zbrush before exporting back to maya and then do uvs later on a minor now for the stones here i'm just gonna using turn smooth border and to add a few details as well with the as well as using the term dynamic and like i said at this point i can just do uh sculpt i can just add sculpt details without worrying about the actual topology or uvs or anything like that since that's going to come later i'm also using the mullet fast 2 brush to add some details and i'm going to make these tones so that they look a little bit rough not too clean so just a little bit of sculpting here just adding some details and adding some damage to the edges as well all right and then for the book i'm essentially just going to subdivide it and export it like that then for this tablet in front so i'm just going to add a few details as well i'm also going to redo the low poly so i'm just going to go crazy with it not worry about the topology too much so [Music] all right so i'm going to be exporting that into my app as you can see here i did do a did reduce the topology in zbrush before exporting obviously it is triangulated and i'm just going to clean up a little bit of the geo i'm going to skip some of that in this video because it took a little bit but i recommend you clean it up and so that's what i'm doing here i cleaned up the geo and then after that's done i'm going to do uvs so basically getting rid of any unnecessary geo that's here and also any really long triangles as well so like i mentioned i decimated the model in zbrush and then exported that back into maya and i'm just cleaning up the geo a little bit so that i can do uvs you know when you clean up the geo it also makes it easier to do uvs it's going to add a plane here which is what i'm going to bake for the actual leaf and i'm going to start to do uvs which is mostly planar wraps uh some cuts along near 90 degree geo changes and then i'm going to pretty much do the same with everything else and also i'm using the unfold tool [Music] [Applause] so for the pedestal as well adding cuts near 90 degree angle changes and then i'm using the unfold tool you don't want to have too many pieces when you are breaking up your uvs because the most the more seams you have the more possibilities of you possibly getting some noticeable seams in your model if you're not careful of course and now i'm just going to repack the uvs a little bit just to make it a little bit easier and in substance paint there i'm going to loading my low poly and then i'm going to bake all my maps and i'm also going to mask the leaf here using an opacity map and then i'm going to use the 3dx stylized material that's going to be linked in the video description if you want to learn how to make it and use it i will disable some layers and lower the opacity of some as well this is a material that's good for using as a base then i always recommend people add more layers on top and they're just going to do their own thing with it then i'm just going to add a little bit of writing on the book itself probably spend more time on that in this case i just used a few offers already here is the render in mamos at 2mac if you're new to the channel make sure you hit the like button and subscribe to the channel and i'll hopefully see you in a future video would you like to learn 3d modeling do you ever wonder how 3d models are made well you see making 3d models is actually not as complicated as it looks typically models are made from simple geometric shapes like a cube and slowly transform to create cooler looking shapes for example like this character hey this is only a 45 second ad so there's not enough time to cover everything click on the link below now to get started when you click the link it will show you exactly the steps to making 3d models from scratch you'll see everything you need to know to get started and by the end of the course you will have made some really cool 3d models like this room like i said this is a short video so i don't have enough time to explain everything click the link below now to see exactly how this is done you
