hey peeps welcome back to project anonymous today's video we're going to make custom patches they're heat keeps patches because that's what you always say so let's make some patches yeah [Music] i'm going to start by dragging an image of a peep into inkscape [Music] next i'm going to create a new layer where i'll draw my sketch now i'll begin tracing the p with the bezier tool [Music] hey now i'll thicken up the stroke to make a nice satin stitch for the edge of our patch [Music] now that i have my sketch i can hide the first layer which gets rid of the image [Music] now use the path tools to cut away the edge of the text box so i have a nice single layer of stitching you can see here as i'm testing out the stitch pattern i have a problem with the letters not getting the full white background [Music] now you can see i'm having problems getting the letters to stitch we found that ink stitch doesn't work well with some fonts so be careful of that but we finally got it to work now i'll add a quick colorful background to flush out the shape [Music] and we decided to change the font again [Music] and it seems to work so now we'll just export it as an embroidery file all right so we went ahead and cut out our felt um a little bit bigger than our 4x4 hoop and then we also have some fusible mid-weight stabilizer and you have um layer yeah so we're going to try this fusible stuff and we're going to basically just iron it all together normally we just use the basting basting adhesive the sprayer spray yeah so normally we use the spray but we're going to try this fusible stuff and iron it all together and see what we can get out of it okay so the reason we're using felt for this patch is because it's thicker and it'll be easy to cut away the edge of a patch so we're gonna try it we've really only made a couple patches and felt has worked okay for us this is the first time using this useful stuff and reading directions there's two sides to it and it's not really inherently noticed when you look at it but there's a texture on one side it's kind of bumpy that's the side that's gonna have a glue on it and then there's a smoother side that doesn't have one so we have to orient it so that obviously our sticky side is on our felt and not on our iron side so we're going to do just this first layer and then we're going to put another layer on top of that again the reason we're doing doing two layers is we want to get a nice thick patch make sense okay and we're going to make sure our iron is on medium heat i don't want to burn it cool so now we can put this in the hoop i'm gonna try a little magic to get this on the hoop yeah all right darn it that's not how you do it okay you do it see how did you do that it's called magic well i guess you got the touch okay so we got it on the hoop let's get it on the machine [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] to note here for learning because that's what we're doing this is our first patch one is midway through when it was embroidering i thought oh man i really should have used black felt as our background color so that when we cut this patch out we won't see any white it would match the border of our thing or either just in a white border or i could have used a white board whatever border color you're going to use for your patch you should probably use that color as your background the second thing i realized as we were doing this is i made this satin stitch around the outside way too thin so it doesn't have that nice thick satin stitch all the way around the patch like i wanted and then the third thing i noticed is we kind of exceeded uh how small we could make text here because it doesn't really look that good when it right there peeps doesn't really look so hot but you can still read it so we're gonna go ahead and cut this thing out should we do fray check first oh you're right we should use fray check first and then we're gonna cut this thing out and then i'm going to see if i can just manually sew on a thicker satin stitch border we'll try it it doesn't work don't feel too good about that well if it doesn't work oh well oh well oh well but it actually it turned out really nice as far as the the back goes and the stitch looks really cool and once we get these jump stitches off um it'll be nice and we'll we'll put some fray check on let's go okey dokey so now we will be using a fray check and we're just going to put it around our border around our border so the freight track has dried and now we're going to go ahead and cut this out [Applause] all right that's as close as i can get it [Music] so i went ahead and made the improvements that we talked about and here is the replacement patch which turned out a lot better what do you think still the font didn't do so well but i like the border you can't see any of the white underneath it even though i tried to fix this one you still see a little bit of white there this one it's better made with black material what do you think it's good i just like the color a little bit better on this one because it turned out a little bit brighter because it's not going over black it's just going in there right this is this one is a little bit darker the little black showing through because i thought like it would be cute pastel mateys but this turned out a lot darker and a little bit more green if that makes sense no you're right so for colors i would go for that one but for like the border and the cleanness i would go for that one yep whatever was more important but obviously you can always do white just do a white border instead easy fix yeah thanks so much for watching i hope you enjoyed this video and if you did please give it a big like like it subscribe if you enjoy our content
