hey what's up this is the hell and in this video we're gonna create these interesting simulations with this sphere and we're gonna use the cloth tag to achieve this result and later we're going to add some hair to create this this interesting look here so let's do it really quickly i just want to share with you that i've just released my new course this real machine it's a complete 3d motion graphics course where you can learn how to create this entire video from beginning to end improving your creativity and techniques check out the link in the description for more information and let's go back to the tutorial so here we are inside of cinema 4d and i'm going to create a sphere and i'm going to change the type to icosahedron and let's increase the segments to 40. i think that's okay and i'm going to create a displacer shift c displacer and holding shift double click on the displacer and it'll all automatically apply to the sphere so here my displacer i'm gonna use the shader noise and i'm gonna um change the noise actually i'm gonna use another one let me just increase the global scale here to use something around 800 i think i need some more segments to the sphere and let's try other um type of noise or maybe this one let me check another one i think this one let me just increase the contrast a little bit all right i don't know the brightness i'm going to keep zero and i'm going to create some simple animation like here in the animation speed you're going to put 0.5 and we have some animation and here in movement i'm going to put on speed 0.52 and maybe here one or two all right i think we have something interesting let me just put subdivision surface okay maybe i can decrease the segments here and here i can go to object and increase now that was too much okay i think it's too noisy here let me just try to find another one the noise is good let me check a little bit more all right so i think this one the vl noise it's kind of looking interesting i'm gonna keep it like this and let me change a little bit here the global scale maybe 600 and also maybe i can just decrease the height just something like that maybe five all right let me try this one oh that was okay 600. okay we can change it later i'm going to create now i'm going to create a tube to make these um fabrics here these white these white parts here following the surface of the sphere so to do that i'm going to create a tube let me bring the tube this one and i'm gonna just press inst and d to see the segments and let me just increase the segments a little bit maybe here and also the height segments something like this okay but actually i'm not gonna increase the height segments for now because i want to delete these inner part of the tube and i have to convert it i'm going to click here so i can make it editable and then i can just select all these polygons press u l so i can loop the selection and here i can just grow the selection ui oh sorry actually uh once you convert you have all these parts separated so you have to select all the vertices and right click and optimize so it's gonna weld all these vertices together so now i can just select my polygons here and press ui it's gonna grow my selection all right so let's just delete it and here i can just let me just decrease the size a little bit all right now i can create more segments here you select segments ul so we can select the loop and oh actually it's ub not ul sorry and then you can just press m twice letter m and you can just keep creating more segments okay i'm gonna keep it like this all right that's okay i'm gonna call these um white fabric okay and this one's gonna call main sphere all right so now i'm going to create a collision modifier holding checked and here in collision i go here in colliders and i'm going to drag my sphere and here um i think it's in inside stretch let me just check and i'm gonna just decrease the size of my all right so now you can see it's following the surface and if i hit play it's going to keep animating with the sphere and that's it that's all we got to do for these white fabrics i'm going to move it up and here i can decrease the size more and maybe rotate it a little bit all right that's it and i'm going to make a copy and put it here and i want to make it thicker and rotate it in the opposite direction okay so in the video i think we have four that's it i'm going to create four let me just move this up and this up increase the size okay now i want to copy uh this thinner one and move it down just rotate it a little bit and one last one two all right all right so now we have our fabrics around the sphere and that's what we want but now i have to create a cloth surface to create some thickness to these fabrics and i'm going to hit shift c and cloth surface i'm gonna create for this thicker one first so let me just put the name thicker and put zero in subdivisions and here maybe two or three okay and all right so i'm gonna just copy this one and delete um the child and i'm gonna create more copies sorry first i'm gonna just rename thinner i think that's the way you write actually i can't remember but that's it i'm gonna make some more copies and this one i'm gonna put it right here and i'm gonna put everyone as a child of my thinner cloth surface all right so now they they all have the same thickness i'm gonna just adjust the thickness of each one this one for example i can put maybe 1.5 so they won't intersect too much and this one to 1.5 press nc so we won't see the segments and that's it they're all following our sphere okay so basically that's what we need to do for these uh fabrics and what i'm gonna do now is to cache all the collision you have to cache the modifier so let me just select all of them you can put it here collision and now i can select all of them and then cache and hit calculate so let me do something first i'm going to press ask all right because i want more a little bit more of frames here in my timeline and i want to convert my project control d to 24 frames per second and also here in output you put uh 24 seconds frames per second all right so now i can select all my collisions and calculate oh this is weird because it's not following let me just process to all of them and empty cache all right so now okay now i can calculate okay so now now i'm going to speed up the video so we can see the cache uh done so yeah now we have all the cache uh done and let's hit the blade so we can see in real time okay okay that's what we want and now what i have to do is to convert all these piece of fabrics into alembic because when we simulate these orange parts here they have to recognize the shape of these white parts and i'm gonna just pause for now and select all these ones here the the fabrics and i'm gonna bake as olympic all right so we have now all the olympics i'm going to put them on top of everything here i can just disable everything so let me just select all the children so select all of them and here in edit select children and holding control you just uh click and drag here until this bottom one and holding control is going to affect all the the children of your hierarchy so now we're good to go so let me just group these ones and i'm gonna call these fabric collision procedural and that's okay and for now i'm gonna just select everything uh you can middle click everything it's gonna select all the children right click and add to new layer so this is going to call it's going to have the same name as these group sorry and now i can drag and drop them here actually they are already inside of my layer but if you need to add some other thing you can just drag and drop them here inside of your layer so that's it let me just go back to our olympics i don't need these groups i just can remove them from the groups and that's it all right that's all we need to do and now we are just working with the olympics let me just save the file and now what we need to do is to create uh these shapes here to use the cloth tag so i'm going to use cloth tech for all of them these ropes here i didn't use for example the whole rope which is a great plugin i was using something simple and the whole rope has some more parameters to play with so i was just looking for something simpler and faster to do for this purpose here and for that reason um i just used um i didn't use the the spline dynamics because they they were not colliding properly with my with these because i have to actually to simulate them separately so when i started simulating the ropes the aspaline dynamics they were they weren't colliding properly with my fabrics and that's the reason i decided to use this cloth tag okay so let's go back to snow 4d and now i'm going to create a rectangle first we are going to create just these orange parts here and rotate it here 90 degrees okay let me press nd to see the segments let me just increase not this one here can put a little bit down and here can crank these up all right looks good maybe a little bit thicker and a little bit longer just a little bit all right a little bit more this one like this let me put it here and i'm going to copy this one and make it longer and thinner and let's increase more segments and here in my width segments i can just reduce a little bit i think i'm gonna make this one a little bit longer too because considering this part here is gonna embrace this sphere i think we need to make it longer just like this okay so now i'm going to just save the file and convert all these blanks you have to convert in order to make the cloth tag function properly otherwise not going to work and let's hit to make editable and that's it and now let me just create a tag for them you go here right click simulation tags and cloth all right and before moving forward i'm gonna just with the simulation of course i'm gonna just create the collider tag for all of these for the sphere and all of these white white fabrics and right click you go here um simulation and cloth collider and also for these main sphere i'm gonna just copy this name i don't know what's happening every time i try to rename any object my cinema 4d just minimize the window i don't know why this is happening but it is happening so i'm going to create another cloth collider and that's it i'm going to select all the tags and i want them to be to have more friction maybe 80 and i'm gonna put the balance zero in my balance parameter i don't want them to bounce uh with the cloth so hit the save and select both of these tags uh for the cloth parameters and then here in forces i'm gonna just remove the gravity well maybe i can put minus 0.1 so let's see how this is gonna happen i'm gonna hit the play oh it's not working of course because i didn't add any wind and i'm gonna just do something here actually i want these uh cloth to be uh around my sphere in my frame zero so i'm gonna just put here minus 80 for example that what that was the number i put in my project because i give some time to simulate and then when it gets to the frame zero uh it's already in a good position so i'm gonna just select the tags again and here i'm gonna put in my x direction -10 and wind strength i'm gonna put maybe two let's see how it goes okay we can see it's colliding all right okay so now we can see it is colliding but what i'm gonna do here in order to to see in real time i'm gonna cache all the time because that's the only way you can see a proper simulation so and i'm gonna just before i'm gonna select uh enable the self collision it's gonna take more time to simulate but we are going to get the better results so i'm going to check this one and i'm going to cache the animation and i'm going to speed up the video so now we have the cache done and let's see how it goes we can see the collision working and now the sphere is moving okay it's looking good but i can see this one is going down because i use gravity maybe for this one i can reduce the gravity and i can see also these ones going up because of the wind maybe i can just move it down a little bit before the simulation and this one i can reduce the gravity let me just hide my grid okay and also i'm going to create some basic material here just to separate the colors so we can see a little bit better and i'm gonna create these one orange and let me apply to my cloth all right yeah that's what i'm gonna do this one's going up that's what that that's not what i want and this one's going down due to the gravity and also i can see um it's sliding down here and i know that i just forgot to put here my simulation uh here in tag i want to remove the bounce and to put these friction to 100 so now i have to clean my cash empty cash and i'm gonna just move this down oh i think i can't move it down why is that i think i'm not allowed to do it okay so now i think let me just copy this one i'm going to call these first i'm going to call these smaller fabric smaller and this one the same problem to rename the objects and here i'm going to call this longer and in my longer i want to uh put zero in my gravity and this one i'm not gonna copy this one actually i'm gonna try to increase my gravity here maybe maybe just two and let's see how it goes i'm gonna cache everything and i'm gonna pause the video for now and speed up so we can see it done so let's check again and let me hit the play well now we have this problem here it wasn't supposed to create these uh what i'm gonna do here actually i think i can reduce this wind strength i think it's too strong i can see my frame zero i have them already surrounding the sphere maybe they are too strong that's what i'm going to do i'm going to reduce the wind for both maybe 1.3 um and also here i have these turbulence strength maybe i can just increase the turbulence to 0.5 for both and that's what i'm gonna do let's try again i'm gonna just empty the cash and cash everything empty cash and let's cash again okay let's check again all right but now we have too much gravity going on here for these big one okay but it's looking good i can see the the time is going fine but i need this one to go up a little bit and this one i think it's going it's working fine actually and this one i have to reduce the gravity and maybe i can even uh increase the turbulence i'm going to try the last time and you can play with your simulation to find the better to find the better looking for you and i'm gonna just keep uh just like this i'm gonna do this last one for this one i'm gonna just increase the turbulence maybe i'm going to try here one and this one i'm going to remove the gravity or maybe 0.05 and turbulence one so let's check one more time empty cache and calculate okay so let's check our last try oh now it's not looking good at all yeah this one i like but this one i gotta do something for this one so let me just i really need to make something for this one and i'm gonna just maybe keep the gravity in one and maybe i can just increase the mass up to 2 and yeah so let's see how it goes now i'm gonna do a last cache for this one um just for this one actually i'm gonna just empty this one and calculate again all right so let me see okay yeah i'm going to reduce the gravity 0.505 and then the wind i think i need to reduce the strength maybe 1.1 empty cache calculate again okay so let's check okay it's looking better but still going down and i think i just i'm going to test a little bit more here this one needs uh some more tension i'm gonna just put zero in my gravity um increase the strength of my turbulence 0.3 and reduce the wind strength to 1. empty cache calculate again okay let's see one more time no gravity it's going up too much okay but it needs to be just a little bit here my gravity minus 0.1 i'm gonna increase the mass to three and let me see if i put zero in my bounce and 100 in my friction well that's it let me check one more thing here maybe some now resistance but i would need to put uh more strength in my wind maybe just 1.1 here let me check empty cash calculate let's hit the play going down too much wow now what's going on here just a little bit of gravity so sensitive point zero two let me calculate again okay one more time all right okay now it's looking good and that's it in the original video we have these bouncing going on like the fabric goes down and then it has these interesting movement here and the thing is uh i believe is to increase the timeline here to have more you know more time to simulate so you start to see more turbulence happening and more of these collisions and maybe this uh the case here is to i'm going to try the last time here to just increase this turbulence strength maybe two two and maybe we have some better uh wavy simulation here and let me just catch the last time and then we're good to go to the next step okay let's check all right it's looking good all right i think we can move ahead and and create the little ropes here on top of everything but what we need to do here is to create the cloth surface again for these both i'm going to just copy and apply them let me just rename it's going to minimize the window i hope not all right okay so now we need to put zero here and maybe two all right let me check if we have some intersection here it looks it looks like we have some intersections going on no actually we it's not intersecting all right okay so we need to convert these both into alembic again bake as olympic and now we can just move the olympics to the top and these both we can just select the children and drag them here inside of this layer i'm gonna just call these ones like procedurals and i'm going to hide them from the viewport and hide them from my list here lock them and hide them so now we have just the olympics here i'm gonna just move them out of the group and these ones i'm gonna group them and call them orange fabric and this one's white fabric all right so that's it let's save the file and these ones i'm going to just apply this orange material temporarily because uh it's not redshift material later we're going to create these ones okay so now let's move ahead and i'm going to just create more rectangles or planes sorry and i'm going to just rotate here 90 degrees and for this one i'm gonna just make it thinner longer and i want this maybe to be in my width maybe three okay i think three is enough and let me check the segments and d and i'm gonna just reduce these segments here what's going on it's not reducing the segments why is that maybe i have to put here wireframe what's going on okay maybe 200 okay that's what i need and they're long long enough and i'm gonna just convert it and let me just rename this one rope save the file and i'm going to make a copy of these rope and let me just move them down a little bit maybe here it's time to create a camera let me just create this camera create a keyframe so we won't mess up if we change the angle it's going to move to the original position and i'm going to just separate them a little bit all right maybe a little bit up okay so now what i'm gonna do is to connect all of these ropes here in one one object uh you can check here connect objects plus delete it's going to delete the other ones i call these ropes save and i'm going to just create a tag simulation tags cloth and for these ones the orange fabric we need to copy the same collider tag and here i'm gonna just put -10 in my wind direction put my gravity in zero and maybe this drag here i can put one or two let's try two and when strength two and wind turbulence maybe two all right so let's see how it goes sorry we need to put at frame zero okay we have collisions going on here all right okay i'm gonna put some gravity here and let's try gravity minus 0.05 and i'm gonna just cache and see how it goes all right so let's check the animation okay i think we don't need uh gravity actually i'm gonna just remove this gravity here or put maybe um maybe two here or one because this one on the top was lighting up in this fabric here and i think if we need more time in the timeline it'll um you know keep going here and not keep following the animation on the of the sphere it's not going to get stick to it and let me check if i removed the the bounce oh i didn't remove the bounce and friction 100 and maybe this is going to work let me just cash again okay cash done let's check in the camera all right we don't need gravity at all it's going down too much and i think we need more turbulence maybe four here it's gonna be good wind strength maybe i can just reduce because it is colliding with these orange fabric before i hit the ball and let me try again empty cache calculate okay let's see the animation okay but it's going still going down and we don't have gravity maybe i can put this gravity up actually point 0.1 and let me put this speed of my turbulence up to three let's check how it's gonna work all right let's hit play okay okay it's looking good actually we have these collisions here and i think it's just a matter of calculating more time here you can test in your project maybe to give more room here in a timeline you are going to see more of these like these bouncing going on and colliding more with these little ropes and i think it's just a matter of test testing with more timeline space so i'm gonna just move uh move on with this and i'm not going to create a an alembic to this one because i needed the olympics to create collision um so i needed uh to make it thicker to respect the collision in the both sides of the object so let's move on but i'm going to create cloth surface to give it some thickness to holding alt key and this one i remember i used three uh here in my plane and then here i need to just use the same amount okay let me check here but not i'm gonna use minus three because the part which is colliding is this one if i create three it's going to intersect with the objects and i'm gonna put minus three and here i can just add my subdivision surface now we can see the ropes okay i'm gonna just rename this one ropes so now we're good to go now i think we can just jump to the sphere and create the these small bubbles using mo extrude it's very easy i'm gonna just uh this one i like to keep procedural two procedural because i'm using the collision and then this one's gonna be my ball um plastic bubbles all right here i can just delete the collider and i'm going to bring the mo extrude more extrude holding shift key it's going to apply to my sphere i'm going to put it under my displacer because i want it to be distorted with the displacer and here i can just put maybe one and i think that's it and also i'm gonna reduce its size i'm gonna just hide my procedural for now and here i'm gonna just reduce and see how it's working maybe i can just reduce the amount of um intensity of my bubbles maybe it's just a little bit more subtle here's already maybe here oh it's not this one okay it's this one i'm gonna just put zero here and i think it's okay okay okay it's looking good now what i need to do is to create a cloth surface to apply the glass material let's open the redshift and i'm going to create a glass material and call this glass applied to my subdivision and here i'm going to just pick the glass preset i have to delete this material here okay now we have the glass material and i'm going to put some dispersion here i like these effect maybe one we don't see it too much because we need to add some light so we can have better reflections let me create a dome light and i'm going to put some hdri here like a studio on this one i have this one i like this one okay i'm gonna keep this one i'm gonna disable the background so i don't see the hdri and i'm going to create a plane to put in my background i'm just lock my view view here so i can change to my perspective it won't change my camera angle from my render view i'm gonna move it back and increase the size let me create a white material i'll call this bg background and put the white color and here i'm going to remove the reflection all right so now what we can do here uh in my main sphere i'm going to create a cloth surface because i want to create some thickness to my glassy material it creates an interesting effect more subtle and yeah it's looking good okay maybe i can change my hdri let me try another one and this one's too strong very something very subtle here i'm going to keep my let me do something maybe you don't have a hdri let's work with just with uh area lights it's gonna be better let me just rotate it here and point it to my sphere okay all right let me just put ten maybe eight seven okay and maybe a simple dome light without any hdri just to create something more environmental and that's it you're good to go all right so now we're going to create these fabric material let's just scroll the timeline a little bit okay i think it's going fine so now i'm gonna just find a bump uh like a fabric fabric bump i have already my um history maybe i can't find the other one that i used before i tried to find it before but maybe we can use this one if you find it uh you can put the the same name here and i'm going just to save this one all right so we have and i'm going to create my material this is going to be my fabric i'm going to put white let's open this one and i'm going to bring the texture here and let me find my texture it's here click no let me just increase this window all right so i need it to be in my displacement you just bring the displacement here and i'm gonna just put it here displacement and here i'm gonna drag to my texture map all right so now i have my material done and i have to apply to my white fabric i'm going to select my olympics and let me just put them here so we can't see anything yet because i didn't enable my displacement map and i'm gonna just reduce my reflection and here i'm going to just create a redshift tag and in geometry i'm going to enable override tessellation and displacement here can just increase all right we have the displacement happening and maybe i can just play a little bit with this okay maybe 10 then here maybe 5 maybe 3 and maybe 15. let me just reduce my displacement a little bit all right maybe i can rotate my texture 90 degrees and of course i have to change here invert three let me check here okay all right so now it's looking better let's put the material white not totally white because in the real world we don't have these two white material maybe here is good enough okay it's looking good i'm gonna just reduce my area light here maybe three and increase my dome light all right and my background i need to decrease my white color let me just increase this one okay it's looking good and now we can just copy the same material here duplicate it and i'm going to call these fabric orange and let's just apply it to the orange fabrics what's going on here um i think we can see the the procedurals here i'm gonna just disable them here for my render and that's what uh what's happening so now we have the orange here i'm gonna just change the color to orange all right and i'm gonna just copy the same tag here but for each one we need to make some changes for this longer one which is the thinner we need to decrease let me just close up a little bit here i'm going to put here my tiles u maybe 50. maybe here let me check that's it and for this one the same thing maybe 20 or 10. let me 20. and so we need to rotate them as well or put them back to the original rotation and that's it and for this one i just need to change here maybe 10. oh i'm changing the wrong one sorry this one here i'm going to put 30 and here one let me just reset everything and maybe maybe here and here 0.5 and that's it it's looking good and for the ropes we just need to find a texture for the ropes let's try here rope texture i'm using that one that bluish one but maybe we can just like this one maybe i'm gonna just use another one let me check here okay i think it's this one here no it's not this one is good we're not gonna use like i'm not gonna use the proper bump proper texturing for these ones i'm gonna just copy this one and use just as reference we don't need to the purpose here is just to simulate everything i'm going to just use a simpler material let me get back to my cinema 4d and i'm going to just create another material this one's going to call rope and i'm cam i can apply this to the ropes and let's bring the texture and bring the color the rope all right so now i'm going to apply it to the diffuse color and let me reduce the reflection and just increase a little bit these things here all right it's not perfect but the purpose here is just to try to find a good simulation and let's check the camera now this one for example maybe i can just enable my bokeh and let's my camera i'm gonna use the focus i'm gonna use my sphere and i can just reduce this one to ten or maybe two something like this we see some blur here and that's it okay it's working fine and now i'm going to create a hair for this one now open the red shift again and let's just select this one and shift c here it's going to add a hair to this one i'm gonna just disable my dynamics i don't want it to be simulated and i'm going to create more hairs here maybe five thousand fifty thousand hairs and we need to make them smaller maybe one maybe two maybe ten okay and let me try instead of polygon vertex i'm gonna put polygon area didn't change but that's what we need i'm gonna just reduce the size maybe five here and here in my material i'm going to enable the these fris kink and a little bit of the band but also i need to reduce the thickness to something around 0.2 all right so i think i need more here and maybe 150 thousand now it's looking kind of strange here supposed to be distributing let me try the polygon center supposed to be more random all right so let me just reduce a little bit and let's try to fix this it's supposed to be more let me disable these other thickness the phrase the kink and the band and just close this for now and here my hair i'm gonna just put the count to zero let me just increase again i think it's going to be more random now hopefully here i'm gonna just reduce to five thousand and let me just put this one here my guides okay maybe it's gonna be a little bit better let's check okay a little bit more random and now i can just increase this one all right so maybe 80 000. and now i'm going to just apply my material to my hair this fabric orange because i want the same color but it is too dark and we have the displacement so i'm going to just copy i'm going to just call this orange and i'm going to delete the displacement and apply this one all right and now i can go back to my hair material and enable these frizz okay now it's looking good the kink all right so let's check here maybe make it a little bit brighter and put some reflection and some roughness let's try to find another angle oh here it's not so good actually this color maybe a little bit darker just a little bit okay and we can increase a little bit more the the hairs 120 000. and that's it so now you can apply the same perimeter to all of them you can use the same material you can create another hair instead of duplicating the material you can just use the same one and apply the different hair modules to these other piece of fabric okay so a simple tutorial i hope you enjoyed and you can find you can give more room here in your timeline you can just find the best camera angles to create your animations and you can play more with lights you can play with the cameras to find more better angle just like i did in my example okay so i hope this can help you and yeah so see you in the next tutorial bye
