I'm in a class in college on Mahler this semester that focuses pretty heavily on his Third Symphony. Before then, I hadn't heard it, but now that I'm exploring its influences, damn - It's utterly amazing to me how much Mahler packed into one symphony, intellectually speaking. He was a philosopher just as much as he was a composer; if you know what to look out for, you can see the influence of Schopenhauer, of Nietzsche. This song screams existence.
