what's going on everybody magic cycle magic cycle this is the magic cycle cruiser i'm curious to know how many of you bought this bike if you bought this bike put in the comments and let me know if you still like it i bet there was a ton of people that bought this bike because when they came out it debuted at some ridiculous price it was like 12.99 or something for a fat tire bike that had pretty much all the same specs as all the competition i bet they sold a ton of them they really blitzed the market and grabbed some market share i think when this thing came out and it had a few benefits though i mean had a this really tall handlebar so it's a really comfortable riding position had a color screen 52 volt battery system so it had some upgrades it was one of the most powerful ones compared to some of the competition and there was a couple things don't get me wrong there's a couple budget parts on this bike the front forks you know it's just got the on off switch it's not really a uh like hydraulic fork it's just you hear the spring fork just on off there's no adjustment uh the brakes real talk brakes were pretty bad on this cruiser bike i complained about that in the videos i did on it they were just they were noisy they didn't have great stopping power it was overshadowed by the power this thing has you hit the throttle and it gets up and goes now they've come out with the cruiser pro right they've upgraded this thing and fixed some of those problems so the cruiser pro has a better front fork it's got a bigger battery 20 amp hour battery in the cruiser pro this one's 15 the original bike has 15 amp hour what else it's still 52 volt system but they now have uh hydraulic brakes they have like tektro hydraulic brakes on them instead of whatever the originals were i did a video upgrading it to hydraulic calipers trying to fix it and don't waste your money i mean it made it smoother and quieter but it didn't really increase the stopping power any so the cruiser pro now um you know better brakes better fork bigger battery and that bike now i think goes for like 19.99 for the cruiser pro edition so what do you do if you bought the magic cycle like this one right here the original and you like it but now you're like man i wish i could just like trade it in get the cruiser pro and get the better forks and the better brakes and the better all the upgrades to it right well i'm gonna do that today i'm gonna do that to this bike magic cycle sent me some of those parts they sent me the forks they sent me the brakes uh they sent me the battery so full disclosure they gave me the gear to do this upgrade on this magic cycle and i'm going to show you how you can take your original and upgrade it to the pro version so magic cycle does offer the parts that you can upgrade to a cruiser pro if you want and i think they sent them to me because they know i like to tinker and i'm not afraid to take stuff apart so they're probably hey that's our guy if anybody's gonna show how to take your original and upgrade it citizen will do it so let's go do it all right step one in the upgrade process the original cruiser battery was a 52 volt 15 amp hour battery pack right the new one this is the cruiser pro battery they sent me which has a little bit different graphics on it which i like better than the big magic cycle sticker this uh this new one for the pro is a 20 amp hour battery pack still 52 volt system and i looked it up this morning it's 6.99 on their website that's how much it's going to cost to get the new larger battery pack and you'd still have your old one you know you can keep as a spare take it with you on the rear rack and have a lot more range i mean that would be what 35 amp hours of battery pack that's a lot this new battery fits in the old battery cradle so this is how you upgrade ready don't blink or you might miss it take out the old battery set it aside grab the new battery and do this from the opposite side of the bike so it's kind of hard uh slide it in you now have a 20 amp hour battery pack on there a lot more range simple as that so that's that's the easiest upgrade we're going to do today took about two seconds but let's get going now we're gonna do the forks i'll do the forks last let's do the brakes next because that's gonna be a little bit more involved okay we're looking at the front brake as i said before i switched out the original calipers i put on these juntech calipers to hopefully increase the stopping power and frankly it's it's not worth it these were quite expensive and they made it smoother and quieter but they didn't really increase the stopping power like full hydraulic brakes do so lesson learned don't waste your money just go straight for full hydraulic brakes if you're going to upgrade your brakes on this magic cycle they offer them on their website this is what you get right here these are tectro i don't even know the name i'll put it on the screen and they're complete and ready to go so this is the front brake here you can see everything is already pre-filled and it's plug and play you're just going to bolt the caliper right on to the uh the mount there and run your line up the fork and attach the lever onto the handlebars and you're done so the front brake is going to be super easy to really just plug and play the back brake is going to have one extra step so so you got your caliper and your line here it's pre-filled however the lever is not attached and that's because you're going to want to run the brake line through the frame right so you can't have the lever on there it's just got a little screw there in the end capping it off so the fluid doesn't come out and what you're going to do basically is just disconnect we'll take this caliper off disconnect the cable here and then uh tape just tape this new line to the old cable and as you pull the old line out the new line will thread through and it'll be super easy i've done it before not as hard as you think it might be a little difficult here i've got the aftermarket magic cycle skid plate thing on here i might have to remove to get in here so it feeds nicely i'm going to need some room to work i think but it shouldn't be that bad let's pop these babies on there i'm really looking forward to this because that has been probably my number one complaint about this bike is just the braking system all right i just took the front brake off and there's two things i forgot to mention the first is this is your original brake lever and caliper and you can see you got your bell integrated into the lever the new brakes they do not have a bell so you're going to lose your bell that's important to you they do still have the electronic motor cutoffs so you're good to go there but no integrated bill and the other thing is the new set comes with uh new discs so i'm going to put the new disc on this old disc looks pretty cruddy and i just want everything to be fresh and new and clean and so you know you have to pop your wheel off real quick and put on the new disc as well okay things have started to snowball just a tiny bit i figured since i have to take the wheel off to change the disc right i might as well switch the tires while i'm here since i got to take both wheels off right uh and the cruiser comes with i think these are kenda tires i think they're the kenda juggernauts which aren't my favorite i like the kenda crusades better and i have a spare set laying around so while the tires are while the wheels are off i'm just going to pop on new tires put the crusade tread pattern on because i like that better and one other quick note when you're changing out the disc right keep in mind that there are little directional arrows on there so make sure you put it on the correct direction same with the tires if you decide to change your tires put those on there's little arrows on the tire to show you which way they're supposed to roll so a couple quick extra notes for you let's keep going all right we got the front wheel done new disc on switched out to the crusade tread pattern another pro tip for you here so i went to take the back wheel off and did all the they have like torque arm things that go in here and all the axle nuts and everything i took all that off and when you go to pull up on the wheel sometimes you get a lot of resistance and it doesn't want to just pull out of there nicely so here's what you need to do it just means that this axle is slightly turned inside the drop house if you put a wrench on it and just tweak it a little bit here there you go you see it slide into place now it's in alignment and it'll pull right out of there nice and easy all right we just took off the back brake we took the cable out of the caliper and then we just you know this is our new brake line right here and we taped it using some gorilla tape tape those two together now we're just going to pull this through the bike so our our old line our old cable will feed our new line it's got to go through the in right here and then up the the tube comes out right there so you're only working it through you know two feet of the frame shouldn't be that bad all right i'll show you this last step in the process where we plugged the line into the into the lever here and i acquired a helper to help me out it's fine apart but there's a couple things to remember so this is plugged off and this is plugged off you're going to release this plug here just an allen wrench same thing here just a teeny tiny allen wrench that fits on there and then you got some pieces in the bag here so you got this cover thing that goes on you got this locking nut thingy that goes on and then i'm going to call this like a i don't know a brass crush washer i'm not sure what else you call that that slides on so put all three of those on there and then we're gonna open this lever it's almost off and i'm gonna open this line take this little teeny tiny thing out of here i can already see fluid starting to come out take this off and then i'm gonna just plug it right in [Music] okay plugged in hopefully that was right um i didn't feel any click or anything but we'll we'll be able to tell if it starts leaking right and my hands are covered in fluid now so i can't even tighten this nut but you just tighten that up slide the cover over plug it in and you should be done okay it's day two i ran out of time yesterday but i'm back on the job now to finish this up we've got one last thing to do and that's to change out the front forks i've got the tires changed out i got the uh the brakes all switched out to the full hydraulic brakes and while i was at it i also put on new uh locking rubber grips because i like those better than the leather ones so we got new grips new brakes i put on new tires we got the new battery of course forks is the last piece that's going to make this into a cruiser pro edition and these original forks they've just got this like locking you know it's either locked or unlocked there's no adjustment in it at all it doesn't have any name brand on the fork anywhere i look for a name i don't know what this is if you read the website it just says alloy front fork so i don't know if i had a guess i'd say it's probably a mozo it looks like the other mozo forks i've got and here's the new forks that they sent me these are what are on the cruiser pro edition and it's a uh says on the tag here it's a zoom hydraulic fork so that's that's the difference i think is that this i believe just has like a spring inside it and this has like hydraulic fluid in it it's a much smoother movement out of the fork when you compress it so it should be a better ride i'm hoping but let's swap these on there it's a little a little tricky if you've never done forks before i've done it a couple times and it's i mean it's pretty simple to take the fork out you just release these right here and that top one and the handlebars will come off and the fork will drop right out the trickiest part is you know there's bearings inside the headset here and the fork has a piece on the top of it a little ring called the crown race and you can see my new fork does not have a crown race on it so i'm going to have to remove that off of the old fork but let's get these old forks off and the new ones on you can see i got my little set up here i've got the back wheel in my motorcycle lift right there holding the back wheel in place and then i've just got the underside of the bike propped up on cardboard boxes and bricks and pieces of wood because once you take this front wheel off and the front fork off it's kinda you gotta have something to hold it up right the last two times i did it i didn't have anything i was just standing there trying to do it all while i was holding the bike not a great plan so i've got it all propped up now so it should hold itself up while we make this swap all right we got the old forks pulled off and i've started taking off the crown race this is the crazy way that i have found to do it is by just you wedge razor blades underneath that little ring and then you just keep stacking them on top of each other and it slowly works that ring up enough where you can get a screwdriver under it you get a screwdriver under each side and then just pop the ring the rest of the way off i mean it works obviously not i don't recommend anybody does it this way i'm just showing you how i do it it'd be better if the fork just came with the ring on it but it did not so this is what we're doing we're removing the old one all right there she is we got the crown race off of the old forks just this metal ring and it's going to go on to the new forks just drop it down on there like that and then you have to tap it down so it's nice and flush with the forks and that's what your uh seats into your bearings so everything steers if you don't have that crown race it will not steer it won't work at all so you got to have that another thing i want to mention too is the forks didn't come with a star nut you need a star nut to do this any bike shop will have these this is inch and an eighth star nut this goes down in the top of the fork right here like this and then there is a tool to do this but i usually just take a screwdriver drop it down in like that and give the screwdriver a couple good whacks and that'll drive this star nut down inside the forks that is what you know when you're at the end and you gotta put your cap on top of the headset that's what it screws into to this this piece right here i'm gonna screw into that star nut so don't forget to get a star nut you need that to complete this project as well there she is finished product that is how you take your magic cycle cruiser and make it into a cruiser pro edition thank you to magiccycle for giving me all the goodies to do this upgrade and here is what i will tell you about these three upgrades we did you know forks brakes battery if you're gonna do any of them do the brakes brakes brakes brakes that's the biggest noticeable difference bang for your buck do the hydraulic brake upgrade i would recommend that on pretty much any fat tire e-bike like this they're really heavy having hydraulic brakes helps that is a night and day difference on this bike the brakes do those first if you're going to do another one do the battery that is super easy you just click it in and out plus you'll still have your old battery as a backup so you'll end up with like 35 amp hours of battery pack that you can take with you most people are looking for extra range anyway so if you're going to do two upgrades to do brakes and battery if you get really ambitious you want to do the forks i would do those last that's probably the least noticeable difference it is a noticeable difference actually the compression and the rebound of the fork is definitely smoother with these upgraded forks so it is a better fork but i think most people are going to watch that video i just did and say wait a minute bearings and you're putting razor blades under the crown race and now i need a star nut and they're just going to get you know they're not going to know what any of that stuff is i didn't know it the first time i did it so people are probably going to freak out and not do that that's fine you don't really need to do the fork upgrade it is better i mean you could always take it to a bike shop and have them to do it if you really wanted that upgrade but brakes is number one i'd say battery two and then forks if you get really ambitious i think a lot of my viewers are just like me though they're old guys with a garage full of tools and uh some ambition to take on little projects like this so maybe people do that i don't know i didn't see the forks for sale on their website maybe you have to email them and ask them for those or any i mean really you could just buy any set of forks offline to do a fork upgrade but yeah the brakes are totally worth it it's so much better night and day difference so the magic cycle is looking pretty good right now let me give you some close-ups of it i definitely like the graphics on the new battery a lot better this is much better than the old style i think with just had a big sticker there that said magic cycle but i like these graphics a lot better we're starting to dress this thing up pretty nice here we got i also got this skid plate from them the magic cycle uh covers the controller and just the bottom under the pedals there and what else is done to this thing so there's our new forks again no more sticker on there that's gone the brakes protect drill hydraulics fantastic they work so much better so much better it's such a good upgrade it's worth every penny definitely do that that's and that's easy too the brakes were not hard to do at all i did change out the tires like i said i put it comes with like kind of juggernaut these are the crusade or the k crusade kind of crusade better tread pattern i think it's more aggressive looking but it's quieter on the street on the pavement surprisingly even though it's knobbier it's quieter i put on a shorty fender here from a 20-inch wheel bike because i like short fenders what else do we do to this bike we got our rear pack on there and other than that i haven't changed much i guess man we may have to accessorize a little bit more maybe a suspension seat post next i usually put on a stem riser but for this bike i didn't have to because you got these handlebars that have such a steep swoop and they come up so tall you don't even need a stem riser to get the seating position very upright you can see i slipped an extra shim in there when i was doing the forks it just needed a little bit one extra spacer i think was just a touch longer so i had to get that in there to get everything to fit correctly but again you know doing forks is i have these on hand i does everybody have that stuff on hand probably not you're gonna end up into where you're having to buy a bunch of extra little bits and pieces as you go well i think that's about all i got for you today but i did want to let you know magic cycle gave me the heads up they might be sending me their all new ocelot bike in the very near future so i'm really excited to get out on that bike and test it out and of course we'll be doing a video and some content on the all new ocelot so if you're interested in that bike hit the subscribe button the bell so you know when that comes out and for this video today i hope you found it helpful informative at least entertaining to watch if you did consider hitting subscribe and i'll talk to y'all later thanks all right let's test the magi power [Music] 20 24 5 6 7. 27 and a half let's test the magi breaks oh my gosh so much better so much better wow
