hey everyone for this video series I'm going to be doing a solo conquest playthrough of one of my favorite games mage night on this game is by a lot of Shevat Oh what's great about this game right here is that you can play it anywhere from 1 to 4 players with the base game 5 players if you add on the loss Legion expansion I played this game quite a bit it's my go-to game for solo playing this game especially is one of the games that plays really well solo a lot of times in co-op board games whenever you play a game solo it's it doesn't quite have the same feel it more or less as feels like you're playing multiple players and you're using all their turns but the great thing about mage night is you can actually go through with just a one player and it has a pretty well-designed system just for a solo play it also plays really good co-op and competitive although I haven't played the competitive mode as much I would like to since this game does take quite a bit of time on the box it says here so I can find the time play on the box here it says it takes about one to four hours and accurate that's actually I think it's pretty fair to say I don't know about the one hour unless you play one of the smaller versions a solo conquest usually takes me about anywhere between 2 to 2 to 4 hours and with more players depending on if you have people who take like to take your time on their turns it can be even longer but is this is a great game what I want to do for this video is an entire solo conquest game there's a lot of walkthroughs out there and a lot of intro how to play someone they were really done well there's one that everyone seems to recommend I guess this guy he's you know he's really good I'm gonna have to throw my Norseman there as well since I watched his videos to start off Ricky royal from bosses delights he does an excellent excellent introduction and does a really good job of getting new players to start the game what I'm going to be doing is I'm just going to be playing I'm going to try my best to explain what I'm doing and to try to throw out some rules it's not a how-to more or less than just a playthrough of the solo conquest all right what would that being said let's go ahead and set the game up all right so you're going to notice that my box looks a lot different if you own the game I have combined three different expansions in here I have the regular base game I have lost lesion in here and I have also added the crank expansion Krang won't really be coming into play here I've actually decided he's a really good character but for new players and for this place that I just want to use one of the base characters if some extra sleeves how I love this leave every part I have alright so you have that I've ditched the insert and there's a great of pattern for tuck boxes if you go to BoardGameGeek look them up I forgot which one exactly I use but these things have been a lifesaver they they use mat these cardboard stock and it's kind of print in play and they store all the different cards so there are a lot of cards to this game and another thing you're gonna be seeing here I'm the way I organize my game is I have these tiles over banded I'm not sure how good they are for longevity I've had this game for about two years now always use the rubber bands that hold them together there's a little bit of sleight Kili on some of these boards for the most part they're staying pretty intact now you can see right here there's one little corner but they've been holding pretty good together alright if there's something else you're going to need if you want to ditch the insert is plain old boxes now for my crystals I found them all stored up and one of the smaller versions and I have my die all put in here and for all my characters and my dungeon icons um for enemy tokens cities I have this pointer right here for right now if it's everything I need I have six characters and here's trying sitting right here - but I have the six base characters I'm able to store up all my dungeon minion monsters and also I have whole care over here alright and the last thing this box is where we keep track of our fame and reputation and where we keep the source which tracks that day and night and also if you see on here it shows you the costs of all the different terrains how much it costs to move through during days and nights for example this is Plains right here and it costs to to move through and that's the hills plus three woods three so on and so forth you notice right here it has four mountains and lakes it's impassable so as an ex and to move on to any city space it costs to and when you flip it over tonight main to that switches are the woods in a desert during the daytime desert is five and woods or three but during the night it costs more to move through the woods and it costs less than route to the deserts slow day and night board and our fame and reputation track we start off with a solo conquest we will start during the day now let's choose our character now a lot of these walkthroughs everyone's default person to go to is Toback I'm in tow backs a great player he he's pretty solid well balanced great for beginners his skills are really good this is a deep deck the cards he has a pretty decent - but sorryto back we're gonna go with somebody else there's plenty of play throughs out there with Toback in mind but we have these other characters that left now wolf hawk she comes with the Lost Legion expansion and I'm not really a big fan of hers she's her skills are a little to me in a single week there might be some players out there who find her good but not one of those players I'm gonna go ahead and check her out here and then I've already said that it really want to use crank rings on the opposite end in my opinion he's extremely powerful his skills are really good you and is a need that's the most cards you can use them for great effete so crane you might make this too easy school that will leave us between these other three characters we got riffey ago licks and or wasps I think it was play through we're gonna go through and play with arrhythmia I'm sure someone's done a video play through her but we will be doing one as well so she is our character will be playing with for this silicon quest and why not or wasps will be our dummy player now for solo play the dummy player what ends up happening is he keeps track of the track goes around normally in in a conquest or the competitive version the bliz conquest and the full conquest whenever you run out of your cards in your deck you can play or declare the end of round now in the solo play you're not really going to wanted to clear in the round because that will cut your turn short so what the dummy player does is he starts off with his deck of cards and he'll draw three cards he was a lot three and then on the third card if it's one of these colors down here you'll draw an additional mana for having it you'll draw additional card for the color of the cards and as we progress throughout the round of the I'll show you guys here in a second the advanced actions and the spells effect which card goes into his deck and what additional crystals will draw in here so if you put a red pistol on there and you know as you drawing the cards there's an example and potatoes one is a blue card right here and if there was blue crystal on here you draw an additional so it's always three plus additional draw for whatever closer card you have so we'll be using nor wasps for our dummy Claire so next we're going to go ahead and set up the rest of the board up here we play seeing the advanced action and the advanced actions will go up on this upper left corner and we start by drawing three cards and this right here is what's called our advanced actions offer so when you level up or any other card that lets you grab something from the advanced actions offer that's what it's referring to is these cards right over here next we'll go to the spells and for competitive I mean excuse me for cooperative and solo there are four cards that are taken out it's the ones over here that got some easy way to differentiate which ones they are it's anything that says other players on it on this one has another each other players but for easy reference its energy flow mind-read mana clean mana meltdown and it's one of each kind of color so you have a blue red white and green these cards are removed from the spell offer won't be using these and then we do the same thing that spells off or that we did for the advanced actions you draw three and that will be our spell offers so whenever we conquer a mage tower or get a reward for a spell we'll be able to draw from those three that are revealed next we'll be revealing our units so what we do is we take for the beginning we'll take the regular base units which is you can tell the difference between these and the elites by the back the regulars will have a gray and the elite units on the ground that's that here we will have a gold back now we won't reveal these until later on in the game when we reveal a quartile and those are the ones at the brown and I'll explain that here later on but for now we'll be revealing three units and the way it works is on the conquest you reveal the number of how many players you have plus two so since we are playing by ourselves we will reveal one plus two so there'll be three units in the offer so if you're playing a co-op conquest it would be 2 plus 2 so v4 we have 46 them that way we have more availability on our unit offer so with the die and the source we'll do the same going to do with the units we will have the number of players plus two die so we'll go ahead and roll those and they will be three on here now once when you're ready to start to play through your notice that the I die or be a little bit different I'm actually putting a set up after I play the game I completely forgot to show everyone you know how to set up a game so this might make it easier we're not trying to put things together so so max speed also end up setting up all of our tokens up here which I'm just going to show you what the tokens are and once we start the game you'll be set up but I'll be placing these little tokens over here is shuffling each according the stack and placing them above the reputation and fame board next we'll be setting up our map now for silicon quest this is always going to your starting tile today I'm how many players you have you'll have to start off with the wedge tile or on the opposite end over here this is a side B in a wider so for the solo one we'll be doing the more narrow passage and we'll be side a now for this will be and/or we'll be starting this portal and we're not able to move into any of these phases the side over here is what's called a coastline whenever we explore any tiles we'll be exploring towards the middle so it starts off one they'll be two and three and there's certain rules of placement for the map tiles that we can break for example once we get to the brown map switch these are green ones you're not allowed to reveal on the edge of the coastline and it kind of just follows that trying to do a pat so it gets wider as you progress throughout the game so start off will reveal two tiles but when placing the tiles you always try to align circles with stars and the number facing the same way so there's 14 and that number three will always be pointing in the same relative area and you'll always match the symbols so once you plant a variant you can't just set it up whichever way you want there is actually a specific way that you're supposed to set the map and that's you know the symbols matching symbols and the numbers in the same spot as your starting letter one can explain before is for soul conquest you'll start off with seven green tiles two two three four five so we'll just kind of have the five right here plus the two that we just placed so when I'm setting up I would have set that up have a stack and then flipped and revealed and then you'll take these brown towels will find four I'm going to take the mrs. Volquez camp we're not this is part expansion we're not using this one but we will take four cities these are the four city tiles we got white green blue and red and then we'll randomly shuffle them and we'll grab two at random all right so now that we have our city tiles that we have to grab the non-city tiles and for the so conquest we will be grabbing two of these as well and then we take small these we take and randomize them shut them a little bit and the hard to effectively shuffle just four tiles you grab these and you take your countryside tiles is what they call the green ones they call them the countryside and the brown ones of the cord you put the green ones on top of the Browns and that makes up here your map tile deck so as you're revealing over here throughout the sides you'll take one and you'll flip it up and now the object or the goal of the solo conquest scenario is to conquer two of those cities that we have on there which we only have to is to conquer all the cities before the end of round 6 so we have 6 rounds we'll have 3 days and 3 nights to accomplish this all right now I'll show you how to set up your player area since we decided to go with a riff you will do is you'll take our cards when we will place this one right here this is her 4 player card and this one right here shows us all of our different where all of our skills mean as we level up I'll move this stuff over here make some room and then we'll say this is our starting player deck every player has similar cards over here they are they're all going to look a little similar except for it as two unique cards that each player has for example this one right here is called mana pool that's one of our Thea's specific character specific cards and her other one is battle versatility and it replaces two of the other cards that you would normally have any other player deck so they have these two cards but in a different version of it and just to make sure you'll each of these cards or et's decks should have 16 cards or if you do with that is you shuffle them and we'll draw our starting hand here just a little bit there's a few more things we have to do before we are ready to start we will grab her player figure and her shield icons and this is what keeps track of how many command tokens we have so we'll take the one that has the blank on one side and put it here in the player area and the rest of these we organized in numerical order so 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 all right and this is where we always will end up starting so we'll have to armor and we start off with a starting hand of 5 and then here are her skills as you level up we can get more and more improved skills for with iam she can use throughout the game and when we flip over here what we're going to do for the soul conquest is look for the player interactive one you can always tell which one these are by this little dark looking and close up over here this little dark looking head if you have the expansion actually even if you don't have the expansion they say to remove this one so we won't be playing with this one but if you had a loss Legion it replaces it with be cooperative and that's one with a little white happy looking icon so you'll be able to play with this one and use that during the solo so we'll take her starting skills kind of shove them up a little bit and place them in the player area all right and then we'll take her little shield tokens will place one right here in a very center of the reputation marker and one on zero fame so to start off with we will have zero fame and we'll have zero reputation so at the end of the game once we conquered both of those cities we tally up a final score and if you're into keeping track of how well you do on the number over here we'll determine you know our ending score and you can kind of keep track record make high scores on the competitive game this becomes more important because that's how you determine the winner I believe in the competitive one if you don't defeat all the cities it's not that doesn't mean everybody loses I mean if you want to mean that it can but I think the rules are and the cities are just there for extra bonus points but the end the competitive one the person who has the most Fame is the winner so this is our victory point track and our Keating track of how many levels we gained throughout the game we will place our wounded over here and the way wounds work is whenever you take a wound into your hand let me get one of these little wound icons on the back you know if you're playing competitive people can't see look at caring wounds but you'll know and what these do is they clog up your hand I'm normally during the game you can discard any number of cards if you have a hand side or a hand that you don't like but once you get a wound in your hand you are stuck with that and it kind of takes up your maximum or your hand size so at the end of each turn you're going draw to your hand size what you have a bunch of wounds you won't be able to draw off you know as many cards so you can have three wounds only two regular cards your hands so the only way to get rid of wounds is declare rest action which only goes into your discard or you can play a healing card which will fill them away and put them back on the healing or the the wound pile and then we'll go ahead and block artifact get an artifact that is different that we don't set up a common artifact offer like we did for the advanced actions and the spells the only thing I have left to do is to pull out these cards over here we have a pull off a day-and-night tactic cards and this is how we choose you know what we're going to do during the day in the night you'll have different cards for the day and to choose from and during the night time at the before we starting returns we'll have different tactics and these kind of adjust and let you do different things and also a determines turn order nobody goes so if I pick number one somebody else pick number four I'll be going before that person and the further down you go on some of these abilities a stronger they get whereas you going last player or last place you have one of the stronger effects whereas if you pick you know first player you notice is just the number one and there's no effect at all so it's a trade off the higher up you want to go the better or the less abilities you get for going first all right I think we are ready to start the game
