so let's talk compatibility Mac OS sea works with the 2019 iMac or later also 2017 iMac Pro 2022 Mac Studio and later 2020 MacBook Air in later 2018 Mac Mini in later and 2018 MacBook Pro in later it also works with the 2019 Mac Pro in later and coming from Mac OS TOA Apple dropped support for the 2018 and 2019 MacBook Air now let's talk Apple intelligence compatibility and it's sad news news for Intel Mac users because Apple intelligence requires Apple silicon meaning an M1 shipper newer now iPhone mirroring which is a headline feature wasn't enabled in the initial Sequoia beta but will be enabled in beta 2 once that releases what this basically allows you to do is to mirror your iPhone screen directly on your Mac desktop and fully interact with it you even receive your notifications it even supports drag and drop from Mac to the iPhone and it's totally secure we'll be covering this as soon as it launches in beta 2 like iPhone mirroring image playground is not fully enabled in the initial beta but basically this feature is sort of a easy to ous interface that allows you to create images with generative AI so while you can concoct images based on complex text commands the playground interface makes it a lot more approachable now this is more on the techy side most regular users aren't going to care about this but nested virtualization is now available within Mac OS seoa and basically what this does is it allows you it at a high level to run a virtual machine within a virtual machine that has all sorts of use cases for areas like development so while the hardware has been available with the M3 chip and arguably the M2 Chip for nested virtualization the software hasn't allowed it up until now but Apple's only enabling nested virtualization support for M3 computers and higher so if you have a Mac with an M2 Chip that probably means you're not going to have support for nested virtualization on your Mac that said we're looking forward to our favorite VM Updates this fall okay so there's also a new Siri UI and this is what it looks like it isn't fully baked in beta 1 right now but 3:49 p.m. as you can see it is somewhat functional okay here's what I found and this UI makes it Siri appear here in the upper right hand corner you can type to Siri it's currently cloudy and 70° in gu toala now this is honestly one of my favorite updates you've seen it in all the little sections so far the new wallpaper so first of all we have the new Mac OS beta wallpaper as you can see there this is the official sequa wallpaper I should say uh and in basically it looks like a whole bunch of sequoia trees you're looking up sort of a vertical perspective it looks really cool I love this wallpaper it's one of my favorites in a while uh and of course it does have a dark mode as well and it is dynamic as you can see it's moving and it comes to a stop once you unlock your computer so I think this wallpaper looks really cool it's one of my favorites sometimes Apple makes some wallpaper that I'm just not feeling but I definitely am enjoying the Sequoia wallpaper it has that abstract look but it's not so abstract that it's unrecognizable and that's the dark mode version of course now let's talk about the super cool wallpaper the Macintosh wallpapers going back to the original version of Mac OS not the one based on Mac OS 10 but the one for the Macintosh as you can see here and there's all sorts of options you get different color options you have accent you have random and you can choose all the six colors and even a dark gray or light gray looks really good and it's dynamic as you can see so we're just going to show this off a little bit because this honestly is one of my favorite features of Mac OS sequia it is beautiful I love all the colors I love the dynamic aspect all the attention to detail even looks like Apple I don't know if they actually recorded a screen of the Macintosh to make this cuz you can kind of see that little CRT effect but honestly this is one of the coolest wallpapers SL screen savers I've ever seen so Microsoft's famous window tiling feature I think it was said that they patent is expiring or has expired which is allowing Apple to bake this into the system itself so this of course allows you to drag your various windows to the edge of the screen to tile them just like that this is something Microsoft Windows has had for a very long time and now you can do it right here on Mac OS just like that so you can tow your windows side by side you can towel windows in the four quadrants in each corner like this so we'll get all four of those arranged there there we go and if you hold the option key while dragging you'll get a little magnetic effect which will highlight the various areas and you can quickly snap your window directly into a particular tile which is super handy and that works for the various quadrants but tiling options go beyond that you can also hover over the green stoplight button in the upper left hand corner of your window to reveal the move and resize or filling arrange options and this allows you to tile your windows with just a click like this so just hover click and you can to just like that now I especially like the ability to fill in a Range though because that allows you to take all the windows on screen and adjust them just with one click like that which is super cool now under the window option in the menu bar you'll notice some new options so of course you can fill a window just by clicking fill and there are associated keyboard shortcuts for all these you can Center like that and then under move and resize you'll find lots of things halves quarters and then Arrangement views so you can arrange to the bottom right left and right just click like that you can see there and we'll go back in here and you can use keyboard shortcuts like I mentioned to adjust these windows and TI them in the way that you want them to appear and you can also customize those keyboard shortcuts if you want to do that too I'll probably show you that in an upcoming video based solely on tiling if you'd like that let me know Down Below in the comments section we go into some more advanced concepts there there's also some options under desktop top and dock in settings and this allows you to enable or disable toing outright to enable option dragging and then to eliminate the margins that appear as you can see right here see those margins on the edges you can turn those on or turn them off now title bar Behavior also is adjusted in Mac OS Sequoia so you'll notice if you go to settings desktop and dock next to the double click of Windows title bar 2 option you'll see zoom in there minimiz and do nothing and these are options that have been there Zoom is the default so when you doubleclick the title bar at the top it will zoom in or zoom out of that window but if you choose to fill now it will fill the entire window to fill the entire screen without putting it into full screen mode just like that so even if your windows super small like this double click to make it fill the screen and like in iOS Mac OS also gains support for the airpods update this is an airpods beta feature that enables a couple of new options that I think you're going to like number one is adaptive audio so adaptive audio dynamically response to your environment and cancels or allows in external noise and you can adjust this to allow less noise keep it neutral or allow more noise there's also the new head gestures feature which you can enable and this will allow you to accept or decline phone calls by just nodding your head up or down or left to right and it also allows you to interact with announced notifications so the video viewer if you click the reader button while there's not a video on screen you get the normal reader options but if you're watching a video and you click the reader button notice what you get there video viewer you click that and it will actually show the video in its own little Center screen module front and center right with your control still available but when you place some content over that video it automatically puts it in picture and picture so you can still view that video and it works just like a picture and picture window normally but when you move the content away from the window it goes back to full screen it also works with YouTube of course if you haven't subscribed to 95 Mac on YouTube now's a good time to do that you can see that content just moves out of the way so you can continue viewing it without it being obscured now presenter preview is a new feature that makes it so that you can actually see what you're sharing before you share it which is super handy right so you don't accidentally overshare so you can see here you can share this window or share all Mail Windows share this window or share all Safari window windows so if you just click share this window it shares just that window and nothing else so you know exactly what you're sharing before you do so and background Replacements sort of is a companion to this new feature this allows you to replace the background just like this so if you don't want to overshare what's in the background maybe you got laundry that you still need to fold well you can replace it with one of these gradient colors here and there's nine of them including this black color here or you can rep replace it with an image I'm sure Apple will probably provide more of those or you can replace it with your own image if you want to do that and this is I think it's from the I don't remember what airport this is from but you can do that now Apple chess gains new graphics so this is how Apple chess used to look prior to Mac seoa here's how it looks on Mac seoa which look do you prefer let me know Down Below in the comments and privacy and security just like in iOS you get some changes there and one of the big changes is the fact that it will now kind of show you give you a glimpse as to what actually or how many items you're actually giving permission to so location services you can quickly see at a glance that you're giving access to six different services for your location that's handy right and that basic same premise is there for the other permissions as well one thing I haven't seen though is the ability to limit the contacts that a particular service has access to like you can on iOS maybe that will come in an update now the passwords app is rolling out to all of Apple's major platforms including Mac OS aoia this app is basically the keychain in app form something we have been wanting for a very long time an easy way to access your keychain stored passwords security codes Etc now you can do so from this Standalone passwords app and like I said it's on all the major platforms it is pretty good of course you can you can go and change your password generate passwords generate uh six-digit codes security codes you can even share your network QR code to share your network access there are security warnings so if you have compromised passwords or duplicate passwords it'll show those of course all your deleted items there's also shared groups so you can share passwords among your friends and family if you want to do that uh so here's a shared group you can of course go in and manage that and add access to additional people for that group um what else do we have here so it also tells you security whether it's a strong password or weak password that's pretty nice but here's the really cool thing that I love pasy support So pasis are of course the most secure way to sign into your account as it tells you there there are also some options for the passwords app so if you go to settings you can enable or disable website and app names show passwords in the menu bar which is super important I'm going to talk about that here in just a second and very security things suggest strong passwords detect leak passwords Etc but now it also obviously works with autofill so I'm going to just autofill directly from the passwords app you can see a little passwords app icon there and of course it works with ver Verification codes as well so I can just verify with a single click and it uses Touch ID here on my Mac now what you'll notice the passwords section in the settings for Safari that goes away now there's no longer longer a need for that because there's this Standalone passwords app but the really nice thing menar access so you can quickly log in to a particular app or website and it will have suggestions there for you recently created of course as well uh and that allows you to quickly log in to an app or website you'll also find a shortcut to open up the full passwords app from the mini bar now if you go into system settings you're going to find under General autofill and passwords so again you get this little PL holder you can close that out and then you can autofill passwords and pass Keys enable that and then choose where to autofill from with passwords as an option so the calculator gets some pretty significant updates here you can see the difference between the somoma version and the sequa version uh but you also get something really nice that's easy to access and that is history support so if we go up to view show history we can view all our history right here and that's super handy especially when you're doing a number of different calculations and then you can also click to repopulate those calculations you can also convert now this is not new but the interface is new and it's a lot easier to use this time around so I can convert US Dollars to Euros or I can convert I don't know acreage to square miles or square feet or whatever the case may be I can do that right here from the main calculator interface and of course there are math notes this is a feature that was you know really talked about on the iPad IP ad and the iPhone to a lesser degree but it's also available here in seoa and that allows you to perform calculations directly within text Fields like the notes app just like this and yes you can even assign variables which can be super handy now the changes to the photos app aren't as extensive as what you'll find on iOS but there are some nice changes here for instance you get the new collection section which includes things like people and pets and memories and trips and featured photos but again the changes to the photos app in seoa is not as extensive as what you'll find on iOS that being said there are some new utilities things like receipts and handwriting illustrations so it can automatically recognize those things and organize them into their own groups which is obviously pretty handy now the weather app gains a few subtle changes one such change is the fact that you can now have home and work labels so you can see here in preferences show home and work labels so for instance if I have home or work assigned in my contacts app and I have that location in weather it will label them as so just like that now here's another thing the feels like temperature will now be placed right below the actual temperature in areas where there's a big discrepancy between the two now free form gets some substantial upgrades in Mac OS seoa it's one of my favorite apps it's a slept on app from Apple uh but what this app be basically allows you to do is to create boards with an infinite canvas so you can basically just Place anything on these boards the problem is is that if you have a group of items say in one spot and you have another group of items way over in the other opposite corner it could take a while to get over to those particular items but now there's a new feature called scenes and you can basically set an area as a scene and then quickly jump between the scenes so here I'm going to add a scene and it's just going to take that area and Mark it as that particular scene so I'm going to do the same thing here this time with keyboard shortcut or you can just click here and select add scene as well and then you can also delete rename Etc so we're going to go in and rename some of these scenes to their relevant names Square Circle Stars so you can see all those various items on the board board arranged in their individual scenes so we're going to go in here and create a scene here for the triangle so add scene and we'll rename that to triangles there we go all right so now the cool thing you can jump between those scenes so quickly now whereas before it would take you a little while to get over to each one you either had to zoom all the way out or just scroll forever but now I can simply open the scene explore and just click like that to jump directly to those scenes that's super handy if you have a very dense board now another thing you can do if you hold space bar you can actually now have the hand tool to drag around the canvas so that's another handy little feature no pun intended there uh the other thing that you'll find another so-called quality of life Improvement is the ability to snap to the Grid in the background there on each board so if you just go up to the view menu you'll see snap to grid and now you can snap your items directly to the that grid that's going to make organizing things so much easier instead of just snapping to other objects I think a lot of people who use free form are going to love that new stamping feature but in the previous version of free form when you wanted to connect items it was very rudimentary I mean there just weren't that many options for connecting to items but now in Sequoia you can see there's multiple connection points that you can make and that just makes it so much easier to connect various objects to one another in free form for seoa awesome feature you can also quickly create a link and share with others this is a solit free form update now on iOS the Calendar app get some major upgrades and here on Sequoia there's some pretty big upgrades as well such as the ability to create reminders directly from the Calendar app itself and have those reminders appear on your calendar so I just did that but the cool thing is that you can do the opposite as well so I'm just going to create b a cake this is a reminder right here on my calendar now if I open up reminders you can see bake a cake is there as well so it appears they these two apps work together in other words now if I create a reminder within the reminder app and schedule it that reminder is going to appear on the calendar as well as you can see there and if I complete a reminder in reminders it completes in calendar and then vice versa so if I click walk the dog that disappears in reminders in the music app it's now possible to just search within the Recently Added section so if I click search and I type in a search term it actually tells you how many songs it finds under recently added matching those terms you can also filter to only show favorites and then you can search within those favorites if you want to pretty handy so let's go ahead and do that let's search for ocean and it finds one song within this album of old wonderers home tapes now the notes app you already know gets quite a few extens of new upgrades in Mac OS seoa one such feature is of course the math notes which allows you to perform equations right there within notes you can even assign variables and things like that so have several variables set up here and I can just add them together multiply them if I want to and it will do the the math for you just like that so that's a nice feature but it doesn't stop there you also get the ability to record audio directly within notes so I can do so just like this it will even transcribe that audio for you right there on the fly and then of course you can have that audio saved within that note as well so that's super nice but it doesn't stop there there's also the new ability to create nested headings so here going to set math example one as a heading and I'll do another one down here math example 2 as a heading and now you see the little disclosure triangle if I click that it collapses the the information below so if you have a text Heavy document this can be super super handy but it doesn't stop there you can also highlight now within notes and there are several colors you can choose from so you can see those five colors there so I can highlight pink and then here I can highlight green or mint I should say all right so let's talk about messages because it obviously does get several new noteworthy updates the biggest one arguably is the ability to tap back with emoji so that means you're not just limited to those six tapback effects but you can use any sort of emoji which is obviously going to make your tapbacks that much more expressive tapbacks are a wonderful way to quickly communicate or acknowledge receipt of a message without having to type out something long uh this makes it super easy but it's now even more expressive so you can accurately convey how you feel with just one little Emoji now here's another feature the ability to send later this is something something we've wanted for years in messages so you can schedule an iMessage to send at a different time up to 2 weeks in advance I believe you can see the little Dash outline indicates that that will be sent later you can see when it will be sent tomorrow at 3 p.m. and the cool thing about this though you can go in of course edit it or send now or delete and if you send another message that isn't a schedule message is going to place it in chronological order so it will display the unsent messages below to when their scheduled to send but that's not all just like the iOS version you also have text effects within sequoia's messages app so you can go in in format text you can bold you can italicize you can strike through underline but you also have several different effects to choose from like Jitter or explode or big or small you can do all those effects individually on individual words or even Emoji if you want to or you can select the entire message and apply an effect so explode that one's cool now here on this beta it doesn't appear that the effects are actually being displayed properly but if you go into edit you can see where that effect is actually the effect that I chose so that's probably just a beta bug no big deal there now if you're an outdoors man or Outdoors woman you're going to appreciate the new maps updates there's new hiking routes and custom routes you can choose from thousands of curated National Park hikes or choose your own or create your own I should say custom route so here in the Smoky Mountains which is a national park you'll find several different popular hikes there to choose from the nice thing it tells you the length of the height or the hike and it also tells you the elevation of that hike as well and you can add that to your library for later but say you want to create your own custom hike well you can do that as well so create a custom route and now I can go in and map out my own walking directions and apply the various in points or out points if I want to do that and it tells you the elevation as as well as the length of that custom route as well now for Safari we already talked about the new video viewer so we won't talk on that but you also get a new highlights feature which will give you a quick synopsis of what the page is about and then if you go into the reader you see a new redesign reader with a table of contents which is obviously very handy in a summary below that and you can expect this to to grow even more in subsequent betas it will also recognize movies and TV shows that are mentioned actors and actresses and Link accordingly so ladies and gentlemen that is a look at the initial Mac OS equa beta what are your thoughts let me know Down Below in the comment section and be sure to
