what's up guys today I got a pretty simple job to do I've got to make a spacer now this piece here customer needs a spacer he just called me with the dimensions and he says it needs to be a spacer with Ford 1/8 I D 6 and 1/8 OD inches 3/4 thick so I've got this piece of this is a piece of cast iron and I got it they told me that it didn't matter what material it was it didn't matter if it was steel aluminum anything so I got this piece of 6-inch cast iron here and the reason I'm using it is because the outside is roughly six and three-eighths they cast this they cast us a little oversized depending on where you buy it who supplied it to you but this one's about 6 and 3/8 so I can finish it to 6 and 1 8 on the OD it's a very simple job there's really not a whole lot to it my plan is to chuck it up drill it board base it flip it around face it the link and then what I'll probably do is just Chuck the inside and the 3 jaw turn the OD chamfer to be done quick and simple job so I'm gonna go ahead and get started on all right before I get started chucking this up and drilling it I was actually going to show you what I'm going to use to do the machining and instead of using some insert tools I'm going to go ahead and just use brazed on tools like this right here I'm going to have I'm gonna have a right hand and the left hand setup on two different tool holders here and then for the boring I'm going to use my lower sportin bar I got to flip it around it's on the the 45 side I'll flip around I'm going to use this side just use a simple braised own tool bit I believe this is the same brand as the other two that I picked out here I don't know what they are just is usa-made 370 grade and this one's new hat and they've never been used I got lots of these that uh that I haven't ever used so I'm just going to go ahead and pull that one apart and use it so what I have to do on these tool folks though I got to have at least a three quarter shank for the bolts to tighten down on so what I have to do is shim it and I'll just take another you can take a piece of square stock this is just a tool bit piece of Rex 95 and you slide that in there to just face the gap so like I said I'll have a right hand and a left in setup here and in the the boardwalk and that's what we're going to use the braze known for instead of insert another reason why I actually like these when I'm doing cast iron is to me you get a little bit better chip control with an insert it seems to want to just spray that cast iron all over the place which not only does it make a mess I mean when you're trying to cut it you know it's penile which direction you're cutting it's trying to spray in your face I don't want no chip Barb's or anything I don't really use those I just try to manage my chips to to keep them on the machine or around the machine alright so I just wanted to show that to you and I'm going to go ahead and and I'm going to get these two set up I'm going to get the tool centered and once I do that and I'll suck that up and we'll start we'll do a face cup and then we'll drill it out all right here we go I got to finish it inch and 3/4 it's about a 2 in a 30 second thickness I got plenty of no tomorrow with the right-handed tool I've already got it centered I don't I feel the hype it should be there I guess we'll check it a little quick see if I'm wrong just eyeball it with the the sooner Watson in the tailstock yes maybe a little bit fast swinging on my face now we're ready to start forwarding all right I got my bar set up getting ready to board and something I just noticed I may run into a problem with the bar set up like like this on the backside it may the bar or the tool may start trying to get into the jaws I think the bar itself may try to get into the jaw there so if that happens what I'll do is just I'll flip the bar around and use this other side and have a tool sticking out there for plenty of clearance I'm just going to start boarding out and see what I've got what I have to do it started getting it opened up anyway Wow here [Laughter] make that boring bar they got some butts on the end of it there it's not going to take long and start running into the top of that and jaws I think what I'll do I'm just going to go ahead and flip it around I'm gonna use a 90 degree tool and when I got worried about messing up my bar of my jaws I got my bar flipped around the tool that's a ninety-degree tool braised on this is a micro 100 brand this is actually a pretty fresh - all I've only used it a few times I put a just a small little radius on it on the carbide grinder stick it out where you know it's going to clear the end of the bar I'm taking 200,000 to cut I keep looking behind here because it's looking like that my horror is actually going to get into my jaw and what I'm probably getting I'm having to do is is move this out from the jaw some and bump that face through finish it so I'm not cutting my jaw I'm gonna take another cut yeah yeah three ants 800 I don't want a chance messing up my tool bit and cutting into my jaw so what I'm going to do I'm just going to go ahead and move this out bump the face true I'll probably just go ahead and reface it just cuz I know it's good and straight and the board straight with it and I can flip it around and face the other side all suckers gotten pretty hot so I got my glove that's close enough this within a thousand I said I'm just gonna take another face cut so that the ball in the face is absolutely true or here I'm gonna take another hundred thousand that'll leave me you about twenty-five or thirty or soda for out let's go down this is quite warm through I'll take a ten thousand good and we'll Mike it and take the finish pass five and a half thousand in Darwin and six let's finish about four inches 125 and a half now what I've decided to do is since I've got it stuck out from the jaw some thing it finished the the thickness finishes into 3/4 and I'm maybe a thirty second away from that thickness up to this jaw so what I'm going to do is just go ahead and turn it turn the odious eyes right here it's close to that jaws I can get it and I think that'll leave me with just enough there that I can be I'm gonna have a chamfer on the inside I think the chamfer likes that clean that little bit up that's what I'm going to try all right I got the turning tool set up and what I did was I came up and just touch the jaw and I didn't touch it with the machine rod I just touched it with the carriage and backed it off by ten thousand I've got my my indicator set on zero so that'll bring me up ten thousands away from that jaw there and all right I know about six and three-eighths I'm gonna take a hundred thousands cut and then I'll Mike it 2:58 so we know we got eighth of an inch plus an extra body pal tools leave a nice finish 1:58 14 all right I got 14 I'm just going to take a 14 cut I see it I'm about I don't know two three tents under for tonight I work fine that's it when you've got a flipping around face the length and camporee up shot all right over 200 to come off [Applause] about 27 I was right there on my finish cut my battery went dead in the camera so I went and charged it now I'm back at it I'm actually on the finished cut got to take about 27 thousands 26 right there so I'm just going to take 27 about half the one over got one over there that we're good with in with tolerance there it worked out good you got rid of that edge campers match on both sides that's it it's finished up that's it for that job simple easy machining process their thang piece of solid cast iron grill it bored face it darn EOD got nice smooth finish it looks good is what they need well hope you enjoyed that one we'll see you later
