Machine stitched Quilt As You Go Hexagon

hello everybody I'm Nicola I'm from Daisy and grace and welcome to my youtube channel today I am going to show you how I do my quotes you go using a sewing machine I've prepared all the pieces already my templates come in two sections an outer and a middle and I've cut one outer which is the background fabric and two of the central panel which is in modding and in the main fabric my templates are made of acrylic so you can't see through them so if you want to fussy cut your pieces you can do so so first thing we're going to do is take the larger hexagon and turn it up so it's the wrong side facing me okay and then I am going to place my template on the top and because I have used a template to cut it it fits perfectly and then you have this empty space in the middle and this is the magic of my quilting templates because you can position centrally the internal shape so I've got lots of different shapes but they're all the same principle so you place your boarding in that section and that means that that wadding is in exactly the right place to proceed then I'm going to take my main fabric and place that on top like so and now I'm going to take my magic pins and I will explain why they're magic in a little while and because they are amazing and then I'm gonna pin one there just double check because it moved slightly I'm just gonna check that it's no it's all all okay then put another pin there now that's pinned and in the central position so you take the template off and we won't need that for a little while now the the this is how you you do your quilting as you go so I'm going to take my first edge and I'm going to fold it so that it meets the edge of this fabric and modding in the central section and I'm just going to finger press that like so and then I'm going to turn it over and I'm going to pin that down like so and then I'm concerning and I'm going to do the next stitch so I'm gonna finger press that edge down finger press this side and then fold it over again and you can see I've got a perfect miter if you don't get your center of your hexagon in the center of the large hexagon this does not happen and this is what really bugged me and this is what inspired me to make these templates and they're brilliant even if I do say so myself but they are really good and a lot of you do appreciate them so let's fold that over and as you can see I'm going all the way around penny if I was hand sewing I would just do a couple of edges do some sewing and then turn but because I am going to be machine machining this hexagon I'm going to do all of the edges so that why not get it under my sewing machine I can just sew all the way around and you're still wondering why these are magic pins but all will be revealed so I've got two more to go they're weird so finger press finger press turn now the last one is a little trickier because you've got two edges here so what I do finger press down both edges and then turn up together and finger press and the gang take my pen now in the next section I'm gonna show you why these are magic so I've got this all pinned and I'm just gonna turn this over this is very handy cuz it's got a pressing side I've got my iron warmed up now you're going oh my goodness she's earning over her pins yeah I am and normally if you've got normal pins or flour head pins they would burn they would melt and create create havoc on your fabric but this is why these are magic they're silicon so they don't actually melt and that means that I can they're brilliant for cool as you go because you can actually press them and press all your corners and get it ready for sewing it's amazing look at that you couldn't do that with normal let's take the middle ones out because I won't need those in there and you've got a few indents from where the pins are but that just presses out so there you go that's all ready for the sewing machine so bear with I'm gonna get my sewing machine ready see you in a bit well a little bit of TV magic I just changed over to my sewing machine and this is videos all real time as well so this is how long it's taken me to do this quote you know hexagon so as you can see I've got it ready at aghanim my sewing machine I'm going to take one of the pins out please don't sew on over your pins you'll break your needle and ruin your sewing machine so I've got a lovely facility on my machine where it will do a stab stitch so I don't have to do a back stitch and I am just running down the very edge of the first bit of binding and as you can see I've coming towards the the miter so I just slowed down and put it to a stop took the pin out and I'm just gonna get on to that next section put my needle down into my binding and carry on going let's just cut the fabric a little bit and I'm going to use a pin just to keep that edge down but I'm not going to sew over it into the fabric needle down oops and see my deliberate mistake I forgot to take my nip in hell I did that on purpose really just to keep you on your toes obviously not I did it but I don't and then I'm turning I like you can see how easy is I'm not going to make the same mistake twice look needle in pin out I've still got a pin to guide my fabric through and they're gonna put the needle into the next piece of binding now if you've if you prepare all of these straight off you can just set your sewing machine and make loads of them and look I've done it again I left my the magic pin in that's because I'm not concentrated cuz I'm talking to you guys look we're nearly there down the LA homestretch go to the end and I've got this a machine that does a split stitch on the spot and there you go that is a machine quilted hexagons this is the back and this is the front and you can join them together with zig
