the long wait is finally over bloom in 2033  has been released and now we have Ray tracing   available let's take a look at the best features  number one great racing this helps create more   accurate and realistic Shadows Reflections and  other lighting effects that make the image look   like actual photos and using Ray tracing it's  really easy all you have to do is go to the photo   mode the same as before and now here all you need  to do is go to add effect and then you will find   a new one called Ray tracing so just click it one  note it says here version 0.9 because it's still   in early stages and Lumin is going to improve  more frequently with new updates if I click   so you can see now immediately how it looks I just  have one effect I can add here let's see a sun   and I can rotate Sky the sun I mean can  rotate here and you see that it will start   to have all of these effects so if I add  the sky and clouds so I'm Gonna Leave This   by default more or less so you can see how this  applies quite fast okay this is just with 16   samples right now so now I have 16 samples you  see it's quite fast to make the preview and this   preview will be very accurate in comparison to  the final render and so if I go here and with the   sun I rotate the sun let's say I make it lower  in the sky so you can see that really quickly   I can start to have very different modes and so in  the retracing if you really don't understand what   samples and bounces are which are here samples and  bosses basically in Ray tracing samples are like   little rays of white that are sent out from each  pixel in an image it's kind of like if you were   drawing a picture and you wanted it to look really  really good you might spend a lot of time coloring   each little section with lots of different colors  to make it look just right so the more samples it   has the better the final image will look and the  more advances you set the more times the light   will bounce off of each surface in the scene  resulting in a more realistic and better lit   environment so for example if I leave this here  with eight bounces okay you can see how the scene   is quite well lit because of all the light bounces  of this indirect lighting but if I leave it at one   you will see that the light the Shadows become  a little bit darker because there's less light   bounces on the scene okay so you can see  by this area you can compare how this looks   and so to put this into practice here's  an image with 16 samples and eight bounces   and here's another one with 512 samples and eight  bounces and that is a big difference right so you   can use the 16 samples to make quick renders  to check how the light is and this being said   I would like to point out that not everything is  perfect lumion is still actively working on the   new version and they will release more frequent  updates currently the glass that you typically   find in the glass section won't work with weight  racing it's a limitation they are working on but   here's how you can fix it so select the glass  and then you go to new standard and you leave   everything at zero so here zero percent the color  white zero zero reflectivity lift all the way to   200 Metals all the way to 200 and opacity you  can leave it at 20 30 to 40 it's a good value   and just press ok and another thing you can add  on the normal map a paper crumble like this this   texture and you increase it like just a little  bit here and increase the map scale all the way up   and so you can see how now if you add just a  little bit you start to add a little bit of those   distortions to the glass it's very nice to add so  you can increase the release and this is the final   result you can see it looks quite nice another  material that's not working currently in Lumia   2023 it's the water you can also do this with a  standard Shader but since it's a little bit more   tricky I'll leave that for a future video another  note is that all animated vegetation has issues   with Ray tracing too so I guess we'll need a new  update on that as well and feature number two   area light and line Light Shadows with the power  of Ray tracing technology you can also use area   lights and line lights with shadows yes finally we  have area light with shadows take a look at this   scene when I add an air light by the window  you can see the realistic Shadows it creates   and when I add one to the kitchen counter you can  see how it creates shadows in all the right places   these features are really helpful when it comes  to creating realistic and high quality renders   and feature number three new interface as you  may have noticed Lumen 2023 comes with a brand   new interface that looks sleek and modern the  new interface is dark which can help reduce   high strain when you are working on your designs  for long periods of time when you launch lumion   you will be greeted with a welcome screen that  displays news and updates about the software and   plus Lumin has a cool new logo too and one  of the most important features of the new   interface is the updater with this you won't have  to download the entire Lumen software every time   there's an update instead a window will pop  up and notify you that an update is available   the updater will only update the necessary  files making the update process faster and   much more efficient also in photo mode when  adding effects you can easily search for   new effects to head to your design using  the newly organized window and search bar   this makes it easier and faster for you to find  the effects you need to create your 3D renders in   addition to the new interface features Lumi 2033  also has some helpful updates to the photo mode   you will notice two new properties next  to the focal length heading and pitch these properties make it easier to position your  camera exactly where you want it to be this can   be a big help when you're trying to capture the  perfect shot for your render and by the way this   also takes us to the next feature new material  editor interface Lumina has introduced a new   material editor interface with full PPR materials  workflow the new interface now has separate slots   for each texture map including new ones like  subsurface scattering clear coat and metalness   clear coat creates a transparent and shiny  coating on a surface that looks like resin   and pro tip use zero or one  hundred percent not in between   additionally there is a metal property that can be  adjusted to the right for metal materials and to   the left for non-metal materials you can also have  the metallic map these are usually black and white   textures which will help to Define which areas  of the material are metal and which are non-metal another interesting addition is the new texture  map which now takes automatically the opacity   of a map if it is in PNG file format for  example there's also a dedicated roughness   map slot instead of gloss which is the same as  roughness but only inverted if you only have   a gloss map now it's much easier to convert it  to a roughness map you can simply load the map   and then click on these three dots next to it  you'll see a button to invert the map now it's   a roughness map the glass has also been updated  there's a new destruction property that allows   for better control over the degree of refraction  all of these little imperfections will help with   the realism of your scene and it will Now cast  Shadows better taking into account the color   assigned to the glass material next feature a spec  ratio rendering capability and this is great news   Lumia now allows you to render images in different  spec ratios including vertical ones you can check   this new feature in the photo mode and then  on the bottom you will find this new property   when you click the drop down you can see  the different aspect ratios you can select and an icon next to it allows you  to render the image vertically which you can also change the spec ratio I would like to point out that for now  you can only render in photo mode full   HD with Ray tracing but here's a trick on  how you can render at least in 4K resolution   go to movie mode and now on the  bottom select any of the empty slots   and click record just press two times on  the add camera keyframe button and press ok   click on the render clip icon on the top of the  clip thumbnail then select the tab image sequence   on the output quality select 4 stars and select  the range property now just type in one to one   now click render Ultra HD 4K and  that's it Here's the final 4K image   next feature is emissive materials the  way light works on materials in Omen   has been improved now when you use emissive  materials they will correctly cast light and   create Shadows even if these materials are not  visible to the camera now not only does it do   that correctly but it also creates shadows and  emits light correctly from a texture map look   at this example you can see how the colors  of the texture are correctly casting light   and next feature is curved reflections with  the new returns in technology Reflections are   now more accurate and realistic this means we  don't need to use the reflection planes anymore   and curved surfaces will reflect light properly  let me show you an example you can see that the   sphere is correctly reflecting all the objects  around it and not only that if you look here you   can see that this table this is a wood color it's  kinda making a little bit of reflection here the   color is bleeding here because the sun is eating  this surface directly and we can see all of these   bounces here on this area and here it's darker  all of this area here is completely dark so it's a   huge Improvement and it can save us a lot of time  without having to apply reflection planes and the   sphere probe anymore feature number eight gizmos  3D gizmos are tools that allow for a quicker   movement and rotation of objects in a scene  lumion introduced this on the new 2023 version   and pressing M on the keyboard activates the move  Gizmo while pressing R activates the rotation   Gizmo if you hold ALT key it will duplicate that  object next feature number 9 post processing stack   the post-processing options are now under the  color correction effect which includes a histogram   to check image balance for example if I increase  the exposure all the way to the right I can see   how in my Instagram the image is now Overexposed  clipping indicators for shadows and highlights   are also available to help you out the explosive  property is located in the color correction now   and other properties like highlights mid-tones  and shadows are now included in this effect as   well and feature number 10 is new video camera  editor Lumia now has a camera editor for video   rendering which lets you import camera paths  from other software like 3ds Max for example and   accurately create paths for orbiting or following  objects this is ideal for simulating drone shots   the new camera parameter deserves a dedicated  video about it so I'll leave that for a future   video and next one significantly improved raster  quality this is also a big one you will be pleased   to know that lumion has retained the raster engine  and even made some improvements to it this is an   area where lumion has been working hard to get  it right having The Best of Both Worlds raster   and retracing you can continue to render raster  images as before if you don't have a ray tracing   capable graphics card simply by not applying the  ray tracing effect in the photo mode effect stack   moreover lumion has made some Investments to  the vegetation and glass for the raster to   give you an idea take a look at the before  and after images of the example scenes these improvements demonstrate that even if you  are unable to use the new retracing technology you   can still benefit from lumens advancements in the  raterization pipeline and next one feature number   12 new assets with every new release of lumion  we can expect updates across all asset categories   the latest version of women is no exception  among the updates are new static characters   find detail nature assets cars furniture and  other vehicles to check which assets are new   simply type on the search l23 this way it will  filter only the new assets from bloom in 2023.   there are more features available but these  were the best ones in my opinion there are   still some areas that Lumi needs to improve  and with this new release we can expect more   frequent updates so which of these features are  you most excited about share your thoughts in the   comments below and don't forget to give this  video a like and I'll see you in the next one
