hey there dang gust you hear today's video is about shipping containers falling off ships and is proudly sponsored by marine engine calm a little while ago ship called the appian England was in a storm and lost about 50 shipping containers off the east coast of Australia and some of these have been floating up around the local area here before that last video took place pretty much the day or even two days after I came in a hospital Dave gave me a call and just said hey look I just sort of tugboat go past my house towing one of those shipping containers do you want to come have a look at the time I thought well can't feel much else we may as well go and take a look I'm not saying it's the most fascinating thing in the world but at least it'll give you some idea of what sort of passes for entertainment ease parts when shipping containers go in the water they don't all just sink you know the majority are actually quite well sealed and will either float high sometimes but much more dangerously float quite low in the water so the tops of them are just above the waterline and that makes them really hard to see and really easy to hit when I was doing the sonar video I gave Nick from Remo Nicole just to check a couple of things and we were having a chat and he said yeah they get questions about like forward-looking so known things to detect these shipping containers from cruises and he said but what actually works really well is forward-looking infra-red turns out that when you see a shipping container in the water using forward-looking infrared cameras they actually stand out really clearly so that's actually not a bad way to be cruising at night and have an eye on what's ahead of you because if it is a shipping container you should be able to save on the camera something I didn't know so I thought that was interesting too anyway let's jump back a week or so and just check out the ones they towed and pulled out of the water [Music] the first thing I noticed on the trip up the river was just how much Dave's a tinny could use a little bit of welding in a few places think that rough water broken Bay has taken its toll we think this tugboats towing one of the containers with a shipment of over the containers came up recently we think maybe is one of us getting probably to the bow ramp near the freeway on a truck water pedals be it Lois Kent Oh was it yeah I actually just saw her look at this outside I reckon he's gonna go to starboard and give it a Scandinavian flick and get the container towards the crane I guess you just wanted to run aground don't you so you can trigger seeing they've swapped the hook out for a couple of chains and small hooks for chains yeah four corners I presume this pad is built into a shipping container [Music] I wonder what's in the tugboat engine-wise that is the tide is on the way up so we're thinking maybe they are waiting for some higher tides no it's not a very high high either it doesn't look like he's working that hard to tell it must have so much growth he's not yeah he's just knocked it in gear the guys from the tug company on the maritime boat dock dropped it it's a shackle for us later I don't think so I think it's attached with a mind [Music] [Music] she looked right [Music] [Music] which hundred meters 800 meters either side of the submarine cable which yeah I don't think your canoe anchors gonna damage it but that might be right on top of it where's the matching sign over there maybe my co that way yeah yeah straight across there but it could actually drag it across it they're not that too nicely can do about it now maybe trying to get a couple out at once parent there's plenty floating around Channel Seven's here I should pinch their camera yeah gonna pitch their camera [Music] nice pass yeah yeah yeah one's got the doors open on it presume this is the tow truck we're going to use to try and skull drag that one close enough for the crane to pick it up just got a line ashore now he's gonna use that on the crane to drag it in closer and letting all the lines go from the tug looks like they've lost whatever was in that line closest to the bow but they're still floating I'm surprised pretty shallow there although it is getting up to a high tide 9:8 for toy truck jeez man pal dude get to do container surfing comes the crying down [Music] interesting the tugs holding off at the moment wonder if he's gonna get involved in getting this last one in somehow it wouldn't surprise me it's not in a great position to pull it with the tow truck yet looks like they're putting some shadows onto all the hooks must be some shackle points on the containers pretty chunky shackles be interested now at their rated for makes sense now that maybe that was just dumping that one too no or it somewhere in shallow water until the other ones picked up that one looks insulated doesn't fire insulation industry lucky might be out of step off very good Oh you're gonna have a tagline so they can move it around wow they're floating pretty shallow weren't they that's amazing there must be well sealed that one's totally cactus isn't it no it's ripped the bottom of it out thousand cubic foot container 997 interesting slight difference eight cubic feet difference in their ratings that side panel that came out was insulated and looks like this refrigeration gear in the back of that container anyway out of the river out of the ocean how the harm's way big gouge in the door that one so pedals big gouge in the door of that one too get it onto a truck I guess I must be going on to this guys trailer apparently that tow truck is actually the little one this is the big toe track that's pretty hardcore we're gonna hit the road being you're quite a while now I presume the plan is to position that one slightly better and then use the new big tow truck to pull it crane it out pretty much the same procedures the other one I guess time to go home just seven really gonna start this Evan really gonna start I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier but it turns out that between 2,500 and 10,000 are these containers for lost ships every year so they're definitely out there and definitely a hazard particularly when they're sitting at about the height this one is here at sea for a while I thank you most that actually happens falling off ship maybe the cargo inside ships as well yeah ought to load my damn yeah Allah by default yeah the bottom ones aren't gonna fall off well that's watching just a little you know midweek extra it was happening so thought you know why not grab it on film this weekend we'll get back into working on Renko I've been getting a day of Paul's time each week which is great what's also really cool is I wanted to pay because II do have said they work before now so he sort of said look down I'll work with you instead and something that's kind of cool is week eight a bit of an agreement where rather than giving him cash we would put the money towards buying some underwater metal detectors that we can use to do videos for the channel as well so I think it's kind of a you know a win-win I get some help we get the detectors for the channel and you know so as well as the people donating getting the work done they wanted it also gives the equipment to make even better videos so hopefully that's something that's you know gonna be great for everyone and update I've actually got to change this bandage so Mazal give you a stickybeak unless you're really squeamish it's not that bad it's actually healing up pretty well this hands pretty good now unfortunately I'm right-handed so it's annoying I still can't do a lot some really right-handed I don't know I'm not pretty and be dexterous at all three stitches in the back here where there was a puncture wound through as well as these fingers getting bent back so it's very sore still and I don't have full movement because of the tendons and stretch really but the swelling and the bruising is going stitches are healing this one I'm out of the cast as you can tell into a thermoplastic splint the reason they put me in that sprint is so I can take it off because the break is self supported by six screws and a metal plate I posted a picture but I'll put it now in his field and that plate and screws holds the brake together so that means I can start to do some sort of physio exercises I can't really bend this joint much he said don't force it you know I only use the muscles but the idea is to do the physio now so the Battlement heels it's not sort of locked in this really inflexible position anyway I'll show you the operation - OH [Music] before I forget this is the exhaust turn that Damien from brute pig welded up for me and posted down very kindly you drain plug in the bottom as well so at some stage we're gonna try and get this into the boat which will hopefully allow me to have a better Flex join here because you know we don't to come across and up this gets these two bits quite close you know I can cut this here I can even cut it sort of behind here so that's another job maybe even when we got the baller maker there helping I put my workbench in the autoclave this morning so it should be good to go this was a blister actually I didn't know this but apparently when you have breaks it's quite common to have a blister near a break just give it a bit of saline to clean it off you can see there they've pretty much opened it up the length of that bone though it's healing pretty well I think these are dissolvable stitches so I think they'll come out on their own then it doesn't seem infected at all so pretty happy with that so far but just got a redress it so anyway pretty good progress is still pretty sore it's gonna be at least a month I think before I can hold any sort of tool with that right hand so although it's coming along it feels like and in some ways it's making good progress I think it's still gonna be a bit of a long road unfortunately anyway here's what it is alright we'll take care and I'll catch you on the weekend when we get back into more of the biting stuff [Music] the steps are being guarded I can't pass haven't already fee rest in the leg good choice
