Log Cabin Loft Renovations | My Plans for 2020

[Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] morning welcome back to the cabin well I thought this would be a good time to just talk a little bit about what happened here in 2019 and what's coming up in 2020 now a lot of changes here well just a little bit of background if you're new to the channel I started building this cabin in the spring of 2017 and head it to the point where or I could spend most of my time in it by I think probably about January February 2018 maybe so just about two years ago the second year 2018 I realized that I needed it somewhere to cook outside somewhere more comfortable to cook outside because it got too hot in here when I cooked on the wood stove so I built that forest kitchen and that turned out great I've been using that all the time but even at this time of year been cooking stuff up there in the Groves handy the barbecue so that that was a great addition realized also that bathing sponge bathing in front of the wood stove or down at the creek or in the lake was not always that practical or comfortable so I decided I needed a bath house which doing my research realized saw that pretty well performs that function so it started the the sauna the bath it was in October 2018 I guess yeah and then I finished that just recently on that shower bath house is a multi-functional so good for taking so honest but also this is you know enough water in there that use it as a shower sink in there for brushing teeth and shaving and stuff and it's also warm enough that we're going to be doing our laundry in there and and setting hang it out to dry in the sauna portion so that's gonna be a really effective we'll start doing that in January 2020 um what else have they done over the long hosts with the guys we built a long house at the far end of the front we're partway down in the property for gatherings for when I have the guys up here especially with my wife joining me here in 2020 in the cabin itself you know I'm not gonna want guys sleeping in here with us so that long house will be basically that gathering area and us and a place to sleep 2020 will be the biggest changes coming with my wife joining me on January 3rd full time January 2nd I guess full time she sold another house the family house family home my daughters have moved on they've moved to their own places and yeah we're ready to make this move permanently the two of us so looking really really looking forward to that it's gonna bring major changes to the way I live here I think the main one not so much well the main difference that's the main it changes can happen on the channel is that I'll have more time to film and edit and do things get things done around here you know and the reason for that is a lot of time is spent off-camera doing the daily chores that I when I'm doing them alone that takes quite a while just cooking for example have to get a fire going keep it get hot enough cook and then clean afterwards so that takes a fair bit of my time surprisingly now I'm acquiring or accessing water bringing water out from the creek or not a grocery shopping going in the town to do that no other things what else firewood collection like kindling collection splitting firewood it's a lot of things happen off-camera that my wife will now be able to help me with which means that I can focus more on getting projects done and doing things that I've been not doing enough of like hunting and fishing stuff like that like actually acquiring more of our food from the land as well as starting to grow more of our food this year so be it invaluable having my wife self to do all that stuff so that's I think it's a huge improvement to the channel you'll see a lot more content or or even if it's the same volume of content what will happen in each of those videos will probably be much more comprehensive get more done enough that we can in the video so that that I'm really excited about specifically projects for 2020 I will be finishing this porch before spraying including screening it in completely so it can be used as a sleeping porch and a place to eat during the warmer months screened in and away from the bugs but also with a nice cool breeze in fact this room here I have to finish this the next couple of weeks completely insulated and waterproofed entirely so that we can use that as a pantry and storage room so that's going to be important to have that what else little things into the cabin there's just some little minor things here and there I need to finish the kitchen still get some proper drawers made and just rearrange its kitchen a little bit more so it's more functional need to make a better icebox two little things all over the cabin the shelves the stuff for getting things up off of the tables and off the counter so that's gonna keep me busy for probably the next you know a couple of weeks or something at least and then the two major projects for this year I need to get my workshop built all the furniture in here and all the furniture outside I always wanted to that nicer place I've been putting them off basically doing making more interesting furniture and things like snowshoes and skis and toboggans and all that kind of stuff I just wanted to hold off making those things until I had a workshop and then getting that workshop thought I needed to perform a function I need to be functional so I need to make sure I have projects to do in there now I see that as a sort of a something for me to work in for the rest of my life my hobby I can get back to doing some wood car - I'd love to just adorn this entire property with little wood carvings all over the place all over the cabin and stuff so that that's what I'll be doing in the workshop blacksmithing I'm not sure what else at this point sure there'd be lots of things that can walk way so that workshop I want to get done before next winter for sure so that I can work inside during the winter instead of working inside the cold Oh the outpost camp so part of this move is spending more time and I'd turn out harvests of food from the land or grow it so that's going to would tell a lot more hunting and fishing so with my wife here again that's I can have more time to do that so not only on this land but on our outpost property well you can head out there this fall probably I'll make it two before that but fall for sure I'm going to be building another small cabin like a sort of like a trapper's cabin so I'm really looking forward to that actually because it's going to be a little bit more interesting and rustic in well-suited for like two people probably you know then it's a place that I can catch fish and hunt and process game and stuff there probably get the guys back hopefully they're gonna come back this spring well when the SAP starts flowing again so we can get more bark - bark for the longhouse and finish that thing off and get some interior benches and stuff in there is that it that might be mostly it though that garden huh I'm not sure for a lot chickens this year definitely have raised chickens in the past both both for me and for eggs and really enjoyed them and you know they're multifunctional as well because they you know keep the pests under control bugs and you know harmful insects and the garden and stuff so that if not this year if we don't get around to it this year then for sure next year I would say 2021 we'll have a fully functioning portfolio productive garden including chickens or quail or something like that so big change is coming quarter the next couple years for sure and who knows where it's headed after that but like I said I hope everybody does continues to tune in and know you probably started watching this thing watching them you know single guy in the woods doing this thing but as I'll continue to do a lot of that in fact I'll probably have more of that on this channel for the reasons I mentioned earlier so I'm looking forward to it and of course nice to have my wife here you know we have a great relationship great marriage so it won't be a strain at all it's not gonna add conflict here though that might be interesting if we have a little bit of conflict just to make that's entrapment to the channel but that's not likely to happen and the girls are off doing their thing and you know we'll see them probably often enough we'll go down and visit them and and hopefully they'll come up and visit us here as well for occasions especially I'm sure they'll come and visit this this is the second Christmas in a row that we've that they can up here we've had Christmas here as well is back back in Civilization two or three go three hours south of here where my parents live we did go down there and celebrate Christmas with the rest of the family this year as well so we'll continue probably to do that celebrate some of the occasions here and then some down down the closer to the towns or cities so I have to admit to this upcoming year I think is gonna be probably the most exciting the year of my life I just I mean I'm living my dream already and just the changes and my wife joining me know just takes it to a whole another level so I'm excited about that now hope everybody wants that it's gonna continue that now tune in continue to watch no yeah I really appreciate it and I can't believe I get to do this and I can't believe I get to share it with you it's a it's an amazing time in my life anyway I think I and I need to shut the video down there's only a couple more days before my wife joins me and I need to get a couple things done here so I just don't think enough time to film and then edit that that footage as I'm working so what I'm gonna do is put some sides on that a platform to make it look like a bed put sort of a headboard put a hatch on that window and a few other things before she gets here and then I think the longer videos will start back up or more content will start back up probably two weeks from now on when I have more time to de filma after my wife settled in for example anyway that's it so thanks again for watching you really appreciate it and I look forward to seeing at the
